Car cradle - Samsung Galaxy S9 Accessories

Hi everyone. Just moved from s7 to s9 and looking for a decent new car cradle as my current one keeps breaking and falling off in the hot weather(UK)., I searched on here but couldn't see a thread. What are you all using? Prefer a window mount rather than grills etc. Don't really work with my Mercedes ones.. Cheers

I have been using one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mpow-Rotat...ywords=cd+slot+phone&psc=1&smid=AM0BJWK37108P since I had my S7. Still happy with it, I don't like the window or grill mounted types. Hope this helps.

i had the S10's.. paired pretty good.. they are not very comfortable tho and you can find them cheaper online elsewhere, around $45.
I had the original S-9's, and they paired well - sounded good too. Watch the knock-offs tho, they are NOT the same, and they won't pair well,or sound good either!

For sure, tons of knock offs on eBay. I got the S-9's but don't use them as much as I used too. They pair well and can be a decent distance from the phone and still pick up signal. If you have a large melon, they may be a bit tight and uncomfy though.

The difference between the knockoffs and the legit ones is the buttons. My S9 has super sensitive buttons, you can just lightly press it and it will stop, skip tracks etc. The knockoffs you have to physically press the buttons firmly. It worked but felt very uncomfortable mashing a button while something is in your ear. My coworker swooped up the knock offs for like $25 on ebay. Also mine came with a Blue Tooth adapter for an ipod, works excellent.
Is there a specific reason you want in ear headphones?
Id say pick up a set of over the ear bluetooth headsets. I had a set of motorola s805's they were good. also had a set of jaybird sb2's which were sick.
Im now rocking a set of the new Beats by dre bluetooth headphones.
If you are stuck on in ear headsets check out jaybird they have an entire bluetooth product line with great support and service.
But i really think you should try over the ear (Your hearing will thank me later)

Then i would definetly recommend Jaybird headphones as they are specifically engineered towards athletes and runners. They have a brand new set of freedom headphones which although I have yet to try look very well built and thought out.
Edit: Besides they have a sweat warranty thats pretty brilliant. Good service from these guys...

I have a pair of the S9 and S10 Motorola headphones. I bought the S10s as an 'upgrade' but that turned out to not be the case, unfortunately. They weren't as loud and the sound just didn't seem as 'full'. Really the only positive thing about them is that they NEVER cut out on me, and had much better range. My S9s are more comfortable, louder, sound better, but they did cut out at certain angles(probably because I mainly used them with my phone in my pocket instead of on an arm band as recommended).
I just got a pair of the JayBird Freedom headphones for Christmas and they are definitely the best way to go and worth the extra money. The sound and fit is probably as good as you can possibly get with bluetooth in-ear headphones, and of course they have the sweat-proof warranty. I would recommend getting the JayBird's over EVERYTHING else, especially if you're using them for running and working out, as I do. You won't regret it!

They stay in your ear better than anything else on the market, hands down. The hype is very well-deserved. They won't even budge while running... Plus they come with a pretty nice carry case.
Look at the LG hbs-700 on Www.newegg com. Great price and I love them. If you watch, you can catch them on sale. Read the reviews.

Good to see others who support Jaybird. Everyone always asks about my SB2's and with my endorphins most people don't even realize i have um in.
Do the jaybirds come with a standard charger or just a USB chord? Also if they do come with just a USB chord are we able to use the same adapter on our htc evo 3d chargers bc i dont have a computer any more just 3 galaxy 10.1 tabs

It's not the same cord but it is a usb to some small connection. You can plug it into any 5 volt source like pc or HTC's plug.
I have those headphones use it for soccer practice, gym, and work. I have had no problem with them at all the only thing not a major issue for me I had to take off the red pads on the inside since my sweat was un-gluing them. I jump and run with them with no problem in fact its the opposite from slipping out I have to take them off for a second because it pushes in me ears at times.
I got a pair of S9HD a year ago and they shorted out, I called Motorola and RMA'd them, a week later I had brand new S10HD in my hands. Like the S9HD these things are not the most comfortable things in the world and do not mesh well with sunglasses unless you flip them over and wear them R in left ear L in right. I have no problems with pairing and the battery life seems really good, better than the S9HD for sure.
Would I recommend to buy? no, there are other products on the market that work and fit just as well or better for much cheaper.

Original Samsung Galaxy S II Headphones

Is there something i dont know about these headphones? they seem to always fall out and it seems like you need to shove it in your ear just to make it stay in?
Yep they're probably the worst fitting canalphones I've tried. Might wanna try others, or maybe use different sized silicon tips from other canalphones. Or maybe see if you can get some Comply foam tips to fit.
Actually, I've just tried Comply T-400 tips on the Samsung canals & the tips fit perfectly. These enable you to push them further into your ears than silicon tips (a more snug fit/better isolation), not sure if they'd stay in place if you were walking or whatever tho (and I won't be trying same because I have a couple of other canalphones which are better quality/have better sound than the Samsungs).

Custom Vehicle Dock - Need Design Feedback (PICS ADDED)

Designing a car mount to work with my Seidio case that will still allow docking features. The mount will be mated to a ProClip mount for ideal location. It will be molded out of Kydex and will have a micro-fleece like lining in it. The electronics will be torn from a Samsung OEM desktop dock from my Vibrant (close relitive of the captivate). This is a very rough idea based on a design in my head. Any input would be appriciated.
Update: I pulled the circuit board from the OEM dock. I'm torn between using it or not. The dock offer audio pass through but at the cost of fast charge capabilities. Not sure if i want to sacrifice this. Day to day the audio pass through will be very handy, but when I need GPS on long trips, I will have to rely on an occasional battery swap. Thoughts?

Yes I'm sure I could, but I imagine this would interfere with the audio pass through as you would be shorting the data pins to accomplish this, then how would the data pass.

I see. So the dock uses the USB connector to take the audio from the phone, to the 3.5mm jack attached to the dock. Then from the dock fo your head unit?

Precisely, I use slacker every morning for my morning commute plugged into the AUX via patch cable so this has major everyday advantage for me. This would allow me to simply drop my phone into the dock. Using Tasker I could have it auto launch slacker.
The only alternative to obtain the best of both worlds is to open up a patch cable, ID +/- then wire a switch shorting the data pins in the closed position. While this works in theory, I’m not sure what the effects it would have on the phone/stereo (noise or actual damage). I have little working knowledge of audio.
What if you used the current OE dock and modified that one? That one is already proven to charge.

If I run into one cheap I may try, but I don't want to throw money at this which was my original plan. I made my first car mount tonight. This is the first time working with the much thicker Kydex T 0.093" and boy was it a pain to work. The stuff is about 4 times thicker then the seidio cases plastic shell. I took pics and even a couple videos. I'm happy with it in that it was a shot in the dark and I didn't expect alot out of the first one and also I found out how damn touch this thickness of Kydex is. I will post up info on it tomorrow when I have time to actually type it all up.
interesting, I was hoping to build my own dock as well. Could you post pictures of the circuit board from the original dock? I'm close to buying one just to tear apart for the charge+audio

You can buy the dock for vibrant or captivate for about $8-$10. I tested they board and it does charge and pass audio.
There are about 6 tiny screws that are accessed by prying off the panel off the back. Be careful doing this, easy to gouge your hand.
The problem will come when you try to mount the board without leaving these delicate wires exposed. Hope this helped.

Should work just fine. I am putting the finishing touches on my guide right now for my first mount that I made last night. If you follow the instructions you should have no problem making a mount an incorporating whatever features you like. I'm still up in the air whether I will be using this dock board or just placing a 90 degree USB cable in. I am waiting to hear back on a quote from a Kydex dealer for a few more sheets and when I get those I will make a more refined end product. What I post here in a bit will be just a way of getting people on the track to making their own mounts. Many people don't realize how easy it really is.

I was looking at the wiring, if I could figure out which pins are used for audio, I could figure out if the other pins could (possibly already are?) fused. I know there are complains about OEM desk docks from captivate and other same gen galaxy s devices not fast charging.

Nice work so far! I've been entertaining the idea of a car dock for my precious Note as well, and I wasn't a big fan of the one that is available from Samsung.
If you plan to move into any sort of CAD/CAM development, I'd love to offer my modeling skills to the cause. I made this guy a while back for my Atrix as a desk dock, but ended up buying the HD dock towards the end of the Project lol.
I'm not trying to highjack this thread or anything, just want to offer my services to the cause. If there is an interest, i will start drawing up some plans.

Very cool work but mine will be mounted in my truck so that cool work would go to waste. My mount is aimed at the average joe who can invest <$20 and have themselves a full functional car dock. I'm working on tracking down sources for different parts. I just some rotating adjustable low profile swivels that will allow the case just to rotate from portrait to landscape rather then disassembly. I ordered two to try it out.
Nice cant wait to see the finished product will you be selling any?

[Q] Are there any bud/hook earphones good for working out and have working mic

Ok, here's the deal. I have some power beats phones that I used with my Galaxy S2, and the mic and center play/pause button worked great. I bought a Note and the mic doesn't work. (Damnit) So I bought the Phillips SHS8105A. Well these don't stay deep enough in the ear canal when running with any of the buds to here the bass good. So then I bought the Klipsch S4A earbuds. I ran like 10 steps and the left bud fell out, SMH. So these will not be my solution either. I would love to just use my problem free power beats, so I guess I'm wondering if the problem is software or hardware based. Works on the S2 but not the Note? Could it just be a file missing that enables it? If it didn't work on a phone from the same company it wouldn't be driving me crazy, Lol. Any opinions, help is welcome

Is the Xperia ZU comfortable to use?

Yes or No and why. I'm on the fence right now and really wanna know what it's like walking, sitting down and operating a huge phone.
If you can operate a Note 2 you can operate this phone. It is a bit hard to use with one hand but you can with some getting used to it
I would trade 1 handed use for screen any day. How often are you stuck with just 1 hand to do everything? 3% of the time maybe?
I am very comfortable using the phone. I thought size might be a factor but it's not. It is a pleasure to use.
I would imagine using it as a small tablet is comfortable, but are you guys using it as a phone by itself? As in holding it up to your head? Or do you pair a bluetooth device to make calls?

Yes, I use it as a phone holding it to my head. I bought a bluetooth device thinking I would use that as a handset but it remains unused.
Are there any issues with the other side hearing you? While on my note 2, if I'm not talking in normal/loud voice, the other person may complain they can't hear me very well (or maybe it's just this particular restaurant in specific). Since the XZU is so long, it'll go WAY past where your mouth is.

No complaints as of yet.
I don't have the largest hands and I can type in landscape with very little effort. It is hefty, but since it's so slim, you don't really notice. I've made a few phone calls and I'll admit, it looks strange, but doesn't feel unnatural.

No issue for me, if still comfortable for me.
I can make calls with it no problem. No need for a bluetooth device at all unless you want one.
My biggest concern actually is using the phone as a music player. The audio jack is on thw side so it might be too tight on the pants. And while driving, it might be impossible to switch between tracks with one hand lol
I wish android implemented swipe gestures on the screen to wakeup. Its almost effortless and is an elegant solution especially if your phone is idle on a table top

Coming from iPhone 5, I need some adjustment to typing on this device. However, browsing websites and reading articles from Current and Buzzfeed is great, it has that book-reading feel to it. In fact, the big ass screen makes it a pleasure.
It's easy to hold with one hand but making phone calls made me feel awkward, and a little bit embarassed.
I feel like I made the right choice to return to android with this device. I wish it has tablet capacity battery though.

The audio jack on the side is ridiculous - sony did this on XSP too (sony seems to be good at spoiling decent devices ), especially on a "smartphone" this big :silly:
I'm also getting an XZU in couple of weeks, and if using audio cable while the phone is in my pocket proved impossible, I think the workaround is using the wireless bluetooth.. Sounds like it defeat the purpose of a fully-waterproofed audio jack, but some compromise must be made, huh
First look I worry about the size, now I love the size. Inside my pocket no problem for walk, sit and run. I put my note 2 and zu together with my jean pocket or short paint is ok. No doubt.
One hand operate no problem for me. Because I m the big hand.
When incoming call also no problem, answer without bluetooth. Now I won't worry the size only how to root my device.
One more think is this device suitable for male better than female. When my wife hold it look like holding a M16.

I found the Note 2 too awkward to use so I sent it back. If I had issues with that would this device be even worse?

It was partly the size but more just its general handling, reaching across the screen even though I tried clustering stuff on one side of it. I had a Galaxy Note sometime prior & I got on with that reasonable well & though the Note 2 was bigger of screen I still thought I would be OK with it.
I taking out my phone from the jeans every time I get in the car.
