Hello guys. I have a bit under a year old Nexus 5X which broke down(bootloop). So I have to chances , I take a new Nexus 5X from Amazon or I pay about 15€ extra and get Moto Z. Specs wise it is way better, only thing holding me back are updates. I had Moto G2 and it wasn't the best back then, are they now better, worse? What would you do.
Don't know exactly what you mean, but you can follow the Kernel and ROM development here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z/development
If you're talking about Stock ROM Updates, well, you'll get Security Updates every month.
I was talking about big OTA updates, didi they take long to update it to Android 7.0 ?
The Verizon version got the 7.0 update very quickly. It was around black friday/Thanksgiving time last year. The 7.1.1 update hasn't been released for it yet but it has for the moto z play though. And I think there is a soak test happening for it right now. I don't think the unlocked version got its update till this year. January/February time frame I believe.
Hello, Android 8.0 will be released very probably next week on Pixel phones and later in the month for Nexus phones.
This is a bit earlier than Android previous versions, so can we expect a fast deployment from LG ? For example before 2018 ?
Thank you.
Around March 2018. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the lady major update we get though.
Unless they announce it, don't get your hopes up. Even if they do announce it, it may only be certain devices in certain regions.
I was hoping for faster Android 11 update, or at least a beta shortly after the 8/8 Pro, and more devs interested (not knocking the ones doing great work now). It almost feels like the Nord was pushed out, then almost forgotten. The fact the other 2 "nords" are getting just one update also doesn't give me faith for future support. I used to love 1+ but now I'm heavily loosing faith in them.
We get 2 mayor android updates and 3 years security updates. Nord is not affected by those other 2 variants of the low-end Nord`s
Android 11 is now closely tested by users in Slack. We might get A11 end of November or half-way December 2020. As I'm informed.
(ps one buddy of mine got kicked out of the test team, for no reason. So he gave me the latest news couple days ago)
Yes
Yes i am now there is a port of stock dialer for 8t .and not for nord
You also need to understand that all phone manufacturers (don't know about Xiaomi though) behave like that. You can't expect getting 3 or 4 major updates on a mid range phone model. Also getting fast updates (having compiled my own ROMs with my previous phone) is also questionable as you either push them out too soon and people complain about broken peripherals or they come (hopefully well tested but) too late, then people complain why they come so late. Anyways also here the high end phones are getting upgrades earlier as there are people spending more money on the manufacturer's phones
Take it easy, have some patience and enjoy these well performing phones until we will get a notification about Android 11, pretty sure we have more important things to worry about other than getting upgrades (too?) soon
It's nice to have "some" support but it isn't a big deal breaker how long OnePlus keeps maintaining a certain device. If you buy a device with enough XDA community support and the manufacturer stops updating, just start flashing custom roms and go ham I kept my Bacon (OnePlus One) alive for 5 years (!) ( it's running LOS17.1 atm) when I got my Avicii. Or just buy an iPhone

lol. Let me list the people torn between buying a OnePlus Nord or an iPhone...:
.
FWIW, I upgraded from OnePlus 3T, to OnePlus 5T and recently to the OnePlus Nord and loving it. Really happy with the Nord's value and price point. 5G, VoLTE, VoWiFi, Battery Life, etc.

Patience is virtue mate, Just because updates are not on time doesn't mean support team is bad,
Mind you, There is a reason the updates are delayed, If updates were given this early without the alpha testers (Which are still ongoing in secret) So called "Community Members" will be screaming out saying "This isn't working" "That isn't working" , So It's better for to stay calm and wait other than being sad over updates are delayed
oh I almost forgot, even though they released the "2 nords" they won't be getting the major updates It was thoroughly mentioned in the news articles.
Oos 11 might come begin Januari 2021. We may not expect another 10.5.10 update, but straight OOS 11.

After selling us an expensive tablet Samsung quoting bi-annual security updates only for the device. Is anyone bothered by this fact like me? My 7+ 5G is still on August update, the cheaper S7/FE at least gets quarterly ones. Using the tablet as a device for business. Enjoying possibly 3-4 years of updates, but if they come only every six months... Unlikely I still use this device in the mid-term future. Is this a good strategy for Samsung?
Not bothered. Samsung has always managed its tablets that way. If there is a critical update it'll push it out before the 6 month update.
I don't like to spend a lot of money on phones so I got the A3 in 2020 at a very good discount. I just recently noticed that I don't get updates anymore and that security patch in August was the last one. I didn't know that Android One only had 3 years in mind.
For example Iphone 7 has updates since 2016. It's a shame Android supporti ends so fast. Read that Pixels have 5 years
Thinking about getting a Pixel6a or maybe root this one and try custom roms but I don't have the time anymore for bugtesting.
What I want is a small phone and a good support.
