Galaxy Tab S3, over half of memory RAM unavailable? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 Questions & Answers

Hello everyone. I've noticed that of my 4gb RAM only 1,7gb seems available. I'm no expert to how Android system works, so is this normal? Thanks for any answers!

It may sound excessive but it's on a par with what my tablet usually displays.
I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. Memory is there to be used. And by the nature of memory it gets reallocated as needed. This is what makes it less of a worry than high storage use, or low battery.
I would be looking for actual defects eg. if the tasks I wanted, were not running properly, before worrying about memory

[Q] Limiting factor for 20pics/3 secs ?

What prevents the phone from continuing to take more pics after those 3 seconds?
Would it be possible to say... take 40 pics in 6 seconds with a mod, etc?
It is the camera itself?
Limited by the write speeds?
Pretty sure I read somewhere that the Exynos chip is capable of sustaining burst mode for a much much longer time than 20 shots, but Samsung limited it to that to prevent people from filling up their internal memory/SD card with thousands of similar shots.
As for where in the software this limit is coded, I have no idea. Any devs fancy answering the question? I foresee possibilities of cool stop-animation movies being made with this thing if that limit was removed.
That'swhat i was thinking. Hopefully some dev will work on it.
You also have to consider the memory usage.
The SSD is (in most cases) not capable of writing that fast so each shot takes up memory. I'm (more or less) sure that's it's in the camera-reserved memory range so there might be an actual limitation. If that can be changed by soft-mods can only be answered by a real dev.

[Q] Nook tablet 16Gb low performance

Hello,
I have a rooted Nook Tablet 16 Gb with CM 10.2.1 and I have serious performance issues.
The speed is very low and apps frequently crash, the SD card (Sandisk) can be mounted but after a while is corrupted (I can reformat it and it looks healthy on PC scan, remounted but again after a while is corrupted), the battery life is very low and when reaching ~30% it shuts down.
I am surprised to see that many users are very happy with the Nook performance, this means that my sample has a problem.
What can I do to improve it? I flashed it and formatted everything several times without success, the same low speed right after a fresh install.
Is it possible that a bad battery affects also the overall performance? Can I check somehow if I have any other hardware error?
I don't know if I should buy a replacement battery or buy a new tablet.
Thank you.
LE: I checked again and in fact the current ROM is CM11 M12, which seems more stable than 10.2.1, but still slow.

T mobile LGV10 battery life been horrible - planning to return it and get Note 5

Hello all,
I got the T-mobile LGV10, I have been using it for the past 15 days, I have noticed that the battery life is pretty bad, doesn't even last a day, every time I turn the screen on I would see it dropping 1 or 2 percent. I have installed cleanMaster app and been noticing the RAM usage being at 80-87% all the time. I think it is unusual to be utilizing that much RAM. Apart from these two, the camera is awesome and I'm in love with the second screen.
However, I have decided to turn the phone in and get the Note 5. I have already claimed the LG V10 promo and my status says "approved". Do you think it is bad on part of me to return the phone to T-mobile since I have already claimed the promo? I'm feeling bit guilty to do so. Anyway T-mobile would charge me restocking fee of $50, however I'm getting the card and battery for free right. Is it immoral to do that. What do you guys think?
Whats your usage?
I no longer trust CM. Have you disabled the bloatware?
No need to feel guilty because you can't use the battery or the sd card in your note 5 LOL.

. Sounds like there is something wrong. I get over 5 hours SOT. Either way, enjoy the N5, looks like an amazing phone.

Just switched from the V10 to the Note 5, the V10 was a great phone, but I was used to Samsung after having the Note 3 and 4, word of advice, get a case with your note 5. Both phones are great, but I like the AMOLED and the S-Pen.

SOT. a little over 4hrs for me and good enough and liking the phone
Lol. Wait til you get the note5 and ram useage is always 100%. No joke. Samsung is having a hell of a time with memory management on their exynos 7420 devices. I had the S6 and Note5 and you'll regret making the switch.
Funny, I'm trading my Note 5 in for either the V10 or the G4 tomorrow. Haven't we all agreed by now that Clean Master and any of that Cheetah Mobile cesspool of **** is basically malware? Plus who cares if ram is at 85% or 15%? Unused ram is wasted ram. If it's not affecting your multitasking, then who cares?
Factory reset it and do not install any apps, see if it makes a difference before you eat the restocking fee
I had the same issue. I ended up doing a Factory reset, and let Google restore my apps. This fixed my horrible battery life.
I came from the note 5. I didn't think it was what it was all cracked up to be. It was nice, snappy at first but lag after a few days. Battery was so so. It constantly had issues of not pushing notifications, such as emails, until I unlocked the screen. I had multiple replacements and they all had the same issues.
They all would freeze when I would open an excel attachment, sometimes for a minute, sometime it would never recover unless I rebooted. I replicated this over and over.
The note is slippery as snot. I will slide of flat surfaces lol
Don't get me wrong though, I liked the note 5. It's is a good phone, but its buggy still and has its flaws.
As far as the promo, if you gave the v10 back, you should probably give those back as well. It's the right thing to do. ?

I came from a Note Edge to my V10 and I LOVE the V10. Battery is WAY better on this phone for sure. I get about 4-5 hours SOT and blast all day before plugging it in. And with the promo battery replacement, who cares if it dies. Flip the battery and roll on. Debloat and greenify and that'll make a difference. I'm running stock ROM with Greenify and I've got no complaints. Can't wait to see how a more slimmed down ROM will treat my battery.

Don't be so quick to do so. I was having a rough first week or two with the V10. I rooted it, installed Xposed with a few modules, and now the phone is just about perfect.
First week or two I was getting insane wakelocks. Bluetooth would drain battery when left on (for no damn reason - no phone should do that when not connected to a device, but my Note5 did it too). I would have to plug it in at least once during the day for the most part (not a big issue since I only have quickchargers). Once I got root and Xposed, I was able to use Greenify and take control of a lot of apps making the phone use practically nothing when not in use. Over 9 hours last night I only lost about 8% which isn't bad at all in my eyes (second screen on too). The V10 handles multitasking a lot better than the Note5 because apps will stay in memory longer. Using 85% of 4GB sounds like you have something wrong with your apps, but unless you hit 100% you don't have anything to worry about. I never, ever look at RAM usage on my Android devices - there is no point, it's supposed to be a high % utilized! Was also able to set the phone to a more usable DPI of 540 for most apps (excluding system).
The V10 just has a lot more useful features in my eyes. The Note5 is a great phone for someone who just wants something easy to use. The only thing I wish the V10 had was an AMOLED screen, especially with the secondary display. Apart from that, I don't miss the S-pen, and I certainly don't miss Samsung's UI. I might actually start downloading some games on my V10 since I have so much storage I don't know what to do with it all, and that might leave me desiring the SD 810 instead of the 808, but maybe the G5 will be everything we want and more... haha.

Not going to happen. His RAM usage will be fairly low actually because Samsung kills apps way too frequently. That's the RAM management issue - multitasking sucks because apps always have to reload. It has nothing to do with a lack of available RAM.
I wouldn't feel bad about keeping the promo stuff. The stuff in now technically used, so they can't resell it. Plus, the logistics of them processing the return would probably be more effort than it's worth to them. I bet if you tried, they'd refuse anyway.
When I returned my Note Edge, they told me to keep the charger and cable.
FWIW, my AT&T V10, stock out of the box, is giving me better battery life than any other phone I've owned. I haven't bothered checking the stats, but I was able to just barely get 2 days use out of it, which is a first for me without resorting to a zerolemon battery.
One thing to consider, T-Mobile bloatware drains battery. I found out when I had the g4, that there is an app that is always checking if you rooted your phone. You can see it pop up if you are rooted as it is constantly requesting root access (com.tmobile.PR.adapt or something like that). I removed it with Titanium Backup (along with all the other TMo apps) and battery life greatly improved.
There are two rules in life for being successful:
1. Never reveal everything you know;
2.
Disable bloatware, turn off VoLTE and you will see a huge difference in battery life.
I was concerned about my battery life, but after a few days I'm getting 4-5 hours of SOT. I would keep the device and the promos.
First day playing with the phone outside in Florida Sun, auto brightness, stock, no bloat diabled. The last 21% kept on going 'til I went to sleep. Comparing to my G4, the v10 has been slightly better. YMMV
EDIT:
V10 v Note5 (exynos cpu)

I never had that problem with my Note 4, S6 Edge, or Note5. Plenty of RAM was always available. It just killed user apps for no reason.
Having come from a Note 5 I can promise you you'll be getting comparable battery life and similar performance without the ability to battery swap.

Samsung Galaxy S5 Sluggish, High CPU Usage, Overheating, Rapid Battery Drain and Prob

Good morning from Singapore!
I bought my used/second hand Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 phone for SGD$150 after the mobile phone shop in Singapore allegedly performed Factory Data Reset. I tested the used/second hand Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 phone extensively before purchase, from dialing to having a short telephone conversation to sending and receiving SMS messages to taking 16 MP photos and 4K Ultra HD videos. Everything is OKAY. I was satisfied with the outcome of my testing, paid SGD$150 and took the Android phone home. But of course I did not test the performance of the Android phone with an external microSD card inserted.
I went home and performed Factory Data Reset again for another three (3) times. The following day I proceeded to install close to one hundred (100) apps on my Samsung Galaxy S5 Android 5.0 phone.
Then I started noticing that my Samsung Galaxy S5 is sluggish (extremely slow), overheats and suffers from rapid battery drain problems. The phone battery would be flat after merely a few hours. After reading an online article, I suspected that Facebook might be consuming a lot of CPU resources, memory and battery power. So off I went to uninstall Facebook regular flavour and installed Facebook Lite. But that did not solve the problem. My Samsung Galaxy S5 is still sluggish (extremely slow) and suffering from overheating and rapid battery drain problems. Besides the 100 apps that I installed, I also observed that TouchWiz Home Launcher crashes from time to time. Fearing that Touchwiz Home Launcher was also causing problems for my Android phone, I went to install Nova Launcher and switched over to Nova Launcher. But that did not solve the problem as well. My Samsung Galaxy S5 still remains sluggish (extremely slow) and suffers from overheating and rapid battery drain problems. But somehow I liked the Nova Launcher interface over TouchWiz Home and it stayed on.
I was at my wits end. Subsequently I thought of checking the CPU usage on my Samsung Galaxy S5. After a quick search on the Google Play Store, I installed Simple System Monitor. To my horror, the overall CPU usage on my Samsung Galaxy S5 is almost 100% CONSISTENTLY!. Android.process.media (aka Media Storage) and DCMProvider came out at the top of the list, consuming 20% and 10% CPU usage respectively. I launched a Google search on android.process.media (Media Storage) and DCMProvider. After reading several online articles, I realized that inserting an external microSD card into my Android phone and having thousands of files on it was a MAJOR issue. The reason why I needed an external 64GB Samung Class 10 U3 microSD card and having thousands of files on it is because Samsung Galaxy S5 has only 16 GB of internal storage and my WhatsApp data storage requirements is 21 GB. I really have no choice but to root my Samsung Galaxy S5 using Chainfire Auto Root (CF-Auto-Root) and install FolderMount(Root) app to store my WhatsApp data (21 GB as of now) on the external 64 GB microSD card instead of the 16 GB internal storage. Without FolderMount(Root), I could never store my 21 GB WhatsApp data on the external 64 GB microSD card instead of the 16 GB internal storage. Android.process.media (Media Storage or Media Scanner) probably stuck/hanged/took forever at scanning thousands and thousands of files on my external 64 GB microSD card, consuming 20% (overall close to 100%) CPU usage, slowing down basically everything on my Android phone and causing rapid battery drain. I know I should not have used FolderMount(Root) to solve my massive 21 GB WhatsApp data requirements but it is a requirement.
As it turned out, I have no choice but to turn off android.process.media (Media Storage). Further research on the internet also shows that Samsung Link app (flagged by DCMProvider) consumes a lot of CPU resources and causes rapid battery drain as well. I had Samsung Link app turned off as well because I could not turn off DCMProvider.
After turning off android.process.media (Media Storage) and Samsung Link app (as flagged by DCMProvider), the situation started to improve. The overall CPU usage on my Samsung Galaxy S5 is no longer close to 100%. In fact, the overall CPU usage now hovers around 20% or lower. Sometimes it might spike above 20% but it is still bearable. Rapid battery drain issue has also improved. Previously my phone battery will be flat in a few hours. Now my phone battery could last longer provided that there is no heavy usage on my Android phone. In order to better monitor CPU usage on my Samsung Galaxy S5, I have also installed OS Monitor app as well.
Although turning off android.process.media (media storage) and Samsung Link app has resolved the sluggish, high cpu usage, overheating and rapid battery drain problems, it has also caused some other problems as well. (1) For example, I could no longer take screenshots on my Android phone. (2) And I could no longer review photos on the Default Camera app immediately after taking a photo.
How do I resolve problems (1) and (2)?
As of now, I am still having problems with the Default Camera and Timestamp Camera Pro apps. Despite alleviating high cpu usage on my Samsung Galaxy S5, Full HD (1080p) and 4K (2160p) videos taken with the camera on Samsung Galaxy S5 are jerky or pauses from time to time. This has nothing to do with the Smart Pause feature on my Samsung Galaxy S5. I have it turned off. Is the CPU (microprocessor) on my Samsung Galaxy S5 not powerful enough to take Full HD and 4K videos, resulting in jerky footages or footages which pause from time to time? Please help me to resolve the camera issue on my Samsung Galaxy S5, especially with regards to taking Full HD and 4K videos. My 64 GB external Samsung microSD card is already fast enough to take 4K videos, being a Class 10 U3 card itself. Maybe it has something to do with the filesystem on the external SD card? It was formatted with the exFat filesystem. But the thing is, recording videos on the INTERNAL STORAGE is also jerky and pauses from time to time.
Thank you very much.
PS. I could not afford to buy the all new Samsung Galaxy S9 for SGD$1500. So I had bought an used Samsung Galaxy S5 for SGD$150 instead.

The note 10’s battery life is less impressive than the rest of the phone

The Note 10’s 8GB of RAM is plenty for multitasking and streaming music in the background without the worry of it being shut down by the phone’s memory management. (I’m looking at you, Pixel 3.) The 256GB of built-in storage — the only configuration available — is generous enough to cover all but the most voracious data hoarders’ needs, and I didn’t miss the fact that I can’t expand it with a memory card.
While the Note 10’s performance has no issues, its battery life is less impressive. Galaxy Note phones are famous for being able to last for a full day with heavy usage, but the Note 10 requires a bit more management and attentiveness to its battery life than I was expecting. Even though the battery capacity is higher and the screen resolution is lower than the S10, I’ve been getting about the same battery life on the Note 10 as I did on the S10, with just under four hours of screen time between charges. That’s still solid, and it will suffice for most people, but it’s not the impressive stamina you can get from the Note 10 Plus or even the S10 Plus.

Yes, can't beat the 12gb of RAM and 512gb storage + 5G specs on the 10+ with an enhaced S-Pen w/Bluetooth and accelerometer! Coming from a Note 8 w/6gb of RAM and only 64gb of storage, it's a world of difference - I love mine!
