I just updated to Oreo last Friday and I noticed one change in the tethering - When I enable Mobile Hotspot, the default IP address of the G5 is 192.168.43.1.
On my client (not the phone), I have a script to ping the 192.168.43.1 IP to detect if it is using hotspot or not. But after Oreo upgrade, that ping always fails.
Can someone tell me if this behavior change is related to Oreo? Is there a Firewall enabled by Oreo? Can I have it turned off?
Also, when turning on Hotspot, Wi-Fi is turned off as expected. But when Hotspot is turned off, Wi-Fi is not turned back on. I think this behavior is changed. I remember my Wi-Fi is turned back on when I disable HotSpot. This can be quite annoying.

Running stock, clean install of .12. My Hotspot (which I do pay for, so that isn't the issue) isn't behaving at all. The phone is broadcasting the network and devices can authenticate, but they're not being routed to the Internet once they're in. "Limited connectivity" or "No Internet" statuses on my PC, lack of IP config details on my iPod/Pad.
I called VZW support last night and the guy had me shut the phone off, then he reset something on his end and had me turn it back on again. For an evening it ran like a top. Today I'm right back where I sarted. It *can* work, it just isn't.
Interestingly, when I run Mobile Hotpot, it gives no indication of trouble, but in the Tethering & mobile Hotspot menu in Settings, when i run the Hotspot, I get "Error" showing up in there. Doesn't say what kind of error, no detail/debugging, just "Error."
To recap:
ICS .12, stock
WiFi network ok, Routing not (apparently)
"Error" in settings when Hotspot is on.
Only thing I've seen that sounds anything like this was an APN issue on a different carrier's ICS phones post-update. I'm stumped at this point and like my odds better here than I do calling Verizon again...
I am having the same problem after OTA ICS, I can turn my hotspot on and it says connected to 1 device (my laptop) and when I try to connect to the wifi it takes a while and says "limited connection" and will not work. If I go to my mobile settings it says hotspot...error. usb tethering (internet connection mode) still works but the wifi hotspot doesnt at all, I thought they were supposed to fix this!
I'm developing an app to android and was wondering how can get wifi configured networks with wifi turned off in android? In case this is not possible, Can I turn on wifi but disable the automatic connection to known networks?
Hi all,
I have a problem while connecting to WiFi hotspot feature. I have Feravolt v3 JB rom, Ferakernel.
I am able to activate the Wifi hotspot feature in the phone and its broadcasting fine until I try to connect from my laptop's wireless adapter. The SSID is detected in the wireless networks and when i try to connect, it acquires the ip address and as soon as I get the message 'wireless connected', the phone LED color changes and the phone reboots. I tried both pdanet+ and also the hotspot feature in the rom. both times the phone restarts. I did factory reset and tested hotspot feature before installing any other apps. still the same result. I also tried keeping the phone charged while connecting to hotspot. No luck. I am able to do usb tethering, reverse tethering without any problem. I did not overclock. Just using default settings that came with the rom. disabled sleep policy, kept the screen always on......
My only guess is that might be battery problem and if so any idea how to overcome this problem without buying a new battery.
Anyone had similar problem before or its a first?
Appreciate if someone can guide me if I need to enable or disable any feature.

I had root, loved the ability to have the hotspot with xposed, but hated the lag and battery life.
Tried to flash a ROM and got stuck in a bootloop.
Without access to a computer I had to visit a Bestbuy Samsung Experience kiosk to restore my S7.
Unable to root my device again I was immediately upset to find out I couldn't get hotspot again.
I relied on my hotspot because I have the newer unlimited plan with AT&T and DirecTv bundle.
I use my phone as my apartments entire wifi access relying it for my Chromecast, tablets and my game systems.
I felt stuck without it and almost called an internet provider but then I remembered the phone has wifi sharing.
So the Chromecast has an open Wifi signal if it's not connected to wifi itself.
I connect to it with my phone then immediately go to Mobile Hotspot turn it on and then go to the more options and select wifi sharing off.
Which then disconnects from wifi and the only uses the hotspot there for still having the ability to have hotspot I am able to connect the Chromecast to my hotspot and the other devices as well.
The only reason I really wanted/needed root was for this feature so it might help the next or it may have been brought up already.
I am also on the Sept PI2 update.
So as long as you have an open Wifi
(with or without internet access)
you can turn on Mobile Hotspot with wifi sharing on first
then after the Hotspot is activated
you can turn wifi sharing off to keep the Hotspot on.
Again sorry if this has been posted somewhere.
This no longer work with nougat update...
Flash the G930U firmware and hotspot works "right out of the box" with no fixes or tweaks. I can confirm it works as I flashed my G930A to the "U".

No root Secure tether from the playstore
Recently purchased the LG V30 (ATT) and I'm missing a feature I've had for years on my old phones w/ CM roms. I like my phone to automatically turn on/off WiFI tether when the phone connects to the car's bluetooth. CM roms came native with Profiles and it was a simple setup. I have installed apps like Llama and MyProfiles which technically does the same thing, but in order for the HotSpot to turn on I have to open the phone and unlock the screen. It will message "Authenticating" and the WiFI tether will kick on.
Obviously the phone is non-root. Is there a setting or an app that can bypass the screenlock to authenticate
Thanks,
