Know the kernel name of any android mobile - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi dear bets Team
I want to know ...how to find or know the kernel name of my xiaomi redmi note 3 or any other xiaomi mobile,
Please reply for this.
Thanks in advance

What do you mean by kernel name?
You can get your currently installed kernel by going to setting about phone.
It will tell you kernel is in use by your device and rom, or if you have flashed a custom version.
For device name RN3 goes by Kenzo and RN3 SE goes by Kate.
Other devices codenames can be got by looking at the specs here:- https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/index#wiki_specs

When i go to check in settings>about phone here i get only kernel version. Not kernel name,
I need the kernel name because when i try to install twrp then the devices comes with keenel wise aslo ...so if i don't know the kernel name then i cant download the proper twrp for my website...
So how to get the name of kernel,
In xiaomi redmi note 3 it has kernel name as kenzo and kate and Hennessy, so how to know which kernel is used in my mobile.
Pls reply

That is not there Kernel name, it is the device codename.
You need to know what processor you have, not what kernel.
Kenzo and Kate Snapdragon share the same TWRP.
Hennessy which is cheaper and has a crap Mediatek processor
Compare the two here: - https://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7863&idPhone2=7769
Install AIDA64 app and it will tell you the cpu.

MT6575 CM9 or 10 ROMS

Hi Everyone!
I want to know if there are CM roms for Chinese smatrphones with the MT6575 processor.
Thanks
Unfortunately there are no kernel sources from Mediatek so there are no Custom ROM like CM, the only way to make a ROM is to add some code to the kernel with reverse engineering and this isn't so good, because there are no ways to port MIUI or similar ROMs :'(
I'm working for some mods on Zopo models like ZP100, ZP200, ZP300, ZP400, ZP900, ZP400+ and ZP300+ but nothing over ROOT, CWM and BusyBox
Thanks AresSieran
You can find many firmware for MT6575 on russian forum *ttp://forum.china-iphone.ru/viewforum.php?f=46

Hello,
Would you know by any chance how to remove Phone storage (internal SD card) of the ZP300+ and liberate that memory for Internal storage ?

There are a few custom roms available in that same thread where the cwm recovery was, you could try some of those.
I'm using the 4.1.9 rom found in that thread.
Also there are a couple of Lewa bases roms for MKTK6575 phones you can try.
I dont have the link right here, but google Lewa mtk6575 and I think you will find something.
But first, is your phone working now or not?
If your phone is working, do make a full backup of the firmware before trying to flash any custom rom.
If the phone isnt working, then it cant be much worse, so then you can try any custom rom without risking anything.
Hi I have a 7" tablet with mtk 6575 dual sim cards, do you know where can I find a custom rom for it, it is similar to freelanders pd something with 3g moudles, bluetooth and gps built in any help will be appreciated...thanks.
Also before flashing the tablet, how can I make a full backup of my actual rom.

There is a tuto here in xda (use search engine) of using MtkDroidTools for backup and SP Flash Tool for flashing (sorry, I lost links)
Kernel source
If anyone is looking for a source for mediatek boards, Alcatel has released its sources. Alcatel phones are made by mediatek. I'm currently attempting to port CM to my S'pop which runs in MT6575 board but I'm not yet done syncing repos from CM. If you anyone is intersted, their sources can be found here.

Did you post this by mistake?
You did post the exact same message almost one year ago on page one of this thread. And I did give you a reply as well then.
If you still have the problem, and havent found any working firmware after looking for one year, then I fear you will not find it at all.
But you could always try. Since you already have the cwm on the phone, you could try any rom available for flashing with the cwm, and hope that one will work.
I did learn that these clones can be different even if they are labeled tha same. So one rom for eg. MTK6575 GT-I9300 may fail on a similar looking phone labeled MTK6575 GT-I9300. This happened to me when I tried to flash my wife's phone with my rom. The phones looked the same and was baught from the same dealer at the same time at a marked. So I asumed the hardware was the same. I had a lot of work getting the phone to work again.

My phone is qualcomm or SE?

Which rom i need to install with twrp?
Download aida64 from the play store and it'll give you better information
It's 100% not the SE! (Kate)
The Box of SE has "CE" Certificate on the back.
If u wanna Install MIUI Roms u need the "Kenzo" Roms.
AOSP, LineageOS u can flash an both phones. Just be careful and flash the correct updated firmware zip.
But to be sure just do what @doncoop said and install aida64.
It is a kenzo device
take a ruler, measure the length of the device. kenzo should be like 149-150 mm. kate is 152 mm.
that's the easiest for me. people can convert the software from kate to kenzo and vice versa, the thing you can't do with hardware.

Questions flashing Custom ROM with Redmi Note 5

Hello I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 and I am trying to put a custom ROM on it. Can I get some help with the following questions.....
--I cant find the TWRP file for the Redmi Note 5. I can only find listed the Redmi Note 5A and the Redmi Note 5 Pro. I have checked my phone and it is listed as a Redmi Note 5, even after unlocking the bootloader. Which can I use?
--Also, I will want to use Lineage 15.1 on this phone but I am not sure what firmware files I need to also include when flashing. Any help with this?
Thank you!!!!

To avoid any confusion go to Play Store and download an app called "Device info HW" or other similar of your preference, open it and go to section system, then search for Product.
Oficial twrp for vince is available in this forum as a lot of custom roms.
Hi all, just a clarification, i have Redmi Note 5, why this thread is unified? Does it means roms for "vince" and "whyred" are the same?
No, this forum is for Redmi Note 5 and Redmi 5 Plus both with codename vince.
Redmi Note 5 Pro is known in China like Redmi Note 5 (whyred)
Redmi 5 Plus is known in India as Redmi Note 5 too (vince); This causes the confusion both receives same name depending from where they comes (or where they were released)
Whyred (snapdragon 636) has other specs than vince (625)

Thank you for the info on that. However, I am living in China and my Redmi Note 5 was bought here, so it is a lot of trouble to get the google play store and set up my VPN before flashing the phone with a new ROM. Is there another way to see what the phone name really is?
Also, any thoughts on my firmware question?
Thank you so much for the help!

Then most probably should be Redmi Note 5 pro, if you are rooted go with a root file explorer to system in root directory and find the build.prop file and open it in your device with any text viewer and find the line ro.build.product or something with word product, you will see vince or whyred

I was able to find another app in the Xiaomi app store that showed this info. My phone is whyred. The app name was Quick System info PRO, if others need to do the same. Thank you for the help!
Just wondering now about if I need to bother about including firmware when installing gapps and a custom ROM. Any thoughts on this?
Thanks,!

I'm not sure if I understood correctly, some roms need to be installed also the firmware in some cases and for aosp based roms most of times you need to flash the gapps too but don't worry about. Here is the forum for you specific model https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro and when you find a rom that matches with your preferences in the thread these steps might to be explained

What is my device's codename?

So hello, this is my first Xiaomi device before that I have always used Sony Xperia devices. So I am really confused about some things. I got the Redmi Note 9S 64 GB model. Acording to many web sites and some threads on XDA this model should be "curtana". But what I want to ask is about my "codename". So I am currently on MIUI global 11.0.4 (QJWTRXM) and I have looked up on XDA and many roms require you to have 11.0.7. So if I look up on https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/firmware/curtana/ I only get the QJWMIXM global version. Can I flash QJWMIXM without any problems? My wait time will end tommorow and I will be able to unlock it. If anyone can help me out on this I would be very pleased...
Oh now after I post it I think have found something about it... QJWTRXM seems to be the Turkish version of the global rom. Which is outdated compared to it. So I think I can switch to the global rom since my device is 9S (curtana).

I was wondering if we can change the codename by OrangeFox Recovery
I think the same device is called Curtana for India Note 9 pro and Curtana_global for Note 9s . Any thoughts?
I would love to change my phone to curtana_global to get rid of device codename inconsistencies when switching between global and indian roms.

Edit- I just figured out the models listed in this thread are not the one I have.
I may be a little slow, but does this mean we can root and run Android on our Idol 4s? Also, I'm not sure what my model number is. It's an unlocked idol 4s in the United States.
Thanks!

Come to our group and we'll get you fixed up. You are correct, No roms are flashed unless you flash them. The toolkit only gets you setup for GSI roms, which you have to get. Native Android 9 works very well, so you have a couple differents choices.
