I, like you, received my keyboard cover recently (yesterday). I just tested it-
Works fine for phone calls

solved
hi just an update found that the problem was "edgelighting" app - downloaded from the Samsung edge panels store "unique apps for your edge panels" - it basically flashed the edges in colours etc for an incoming call but DOESN'T show the accept / reject buttons on the shrunken display(still on full size under the cover so you have to pull cover off) - so deleted app and now working fine. samsung tech help not too clever - faulty hard keyboard cover or wanted me to reset phone .. hope this can help someone in the future

Subdisplay is fickle !!!

Hello all: I really like the subdisplay feature of the HTC 7501, but it seems to be pretty fickle !!! I mean, it activates when I put the keyboard cover over (but only sometimes), and even when it activates, it will go away with the slightest motion of the keyboard.
Is this happening to all of you? I have searched in this forum, and there appear to be a few registry tweaks that modify the settings of the subdisplay, but do not solve the problem.
All I am trying to get the subdisplay to appear (and stay) as long as the keyboard cover is on. That way, I can see an incoming call's phone number and be able to answer it without removing the cover.
This shouldn't be too hard, should it?
Thanks in advance for your help.
ditto
happens to me too. bloody irritating (until i ditched the hardware keyboard)
Someone posted a Youtube video about this stuff. It was mentioned in a previous post in xda-developers but here is the link to the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3KH6LS4j7Y
I have the same problem, I have asked in other threads for a way to toggle this manually, can a developer help us out PLEASE?
Also I found the commands in the registry that turn it on or off, but it relies on the magnetic switch, and there isn't a registry setting to toggle the setting to another feature such as a button....
The sub display turns on depending on the location of the keyboard. It's kind of a trial and error thing to find the exact location for the keyboard. For my unit, I have to nudge the keyboard a tiny bit to the right hand side (with the sub on the bottom & facing me) for the sub display to activate. I wish they would have designed it so that the presence of a keyboard is enough to activate the sub display...
I tried to find how activate the subdisplay via software, without success.
Then I decided to remove the bottom bar (I used vijay utility) and I installed resco today plugin in the bottom part of the screen. Turning on the display I see the status with keyboard closed.
Sometime I see the subdisplay menu so I move the kyboard to see the resco status
is there any way to jsut turn off the sub display?
Just turn off the unit, or place the keyboard like you usually would and you will see contacts/calendar
Mine rarely works, cant belive they missed this in QA.
It is really anoying, wonder if the X7501 suffers from this as well.

...Moreover I found the subdisplay really usefull. It shows even the picture of the contact, using ATHENA with BT headset is great!
Many features, bur also no way to have it working with PIEFRAMA case (the one with transparent window to see the subdisplay). Infacts, because of the cover, the magnets are weaker and the alignment is even more critcal!
I think we will pay to have a button activated subdisplay
Just to have an idea of the functions it has (call status, battery, network, data connection, sound):
1) close the keyboard, activate it, and slide the volume slider
2) receive a call from a contact with picture
3) receive an sms or mms or e-mail (3 different way of displaying)
4) Is working in any VGA resolution
The best solution could be to use a button to activate/disactivate it when the keyboard is closed

Indeed, mine is a 7501, so this appears to be an ATHENA device issue, and not limited to the 7500.
Too bad, such a great idea and so poorly implemented!
its a magnetic switch in the top of the unit the magnet on the keyboard must latch the swith for it to activate..
I have NO issues with mines always works...
if you run the right side of the KB along the right side on the unit you will see the subdisplay activates
See Photos
x7501 here, and same problem. This is one of the top 5 problems with the Athena. At this point I just pretend this 'feature' doesnt exist; I rely on my Jabra to tell me who is calling.

SK17 - screen issue during calls

I have got the problem that sensors turn out my screen after calls start (incoming/outgoing) and it does not activate again when I want to end the call.
I have realized that after a call is started and the phone is moved (e.g. after typing a number, dialling and then move the phone to your ear) that this (or actually any movement) locks the screen.
I have realized that the movement actually activates the 'dial pad' (just as you would press the icon on the screen during a call) but somehow also fully de-activates the screen. You can get the screen activated again only by sliding the hardware keypad out. Then you can press 'x' on the screen to get back to the normal call screen (and then end the call normally).
I have got the 2nd SK17 now and it has got the same issue regardless which firmware I use (branded 4.0.A.2.335 from vodafone, 4.0.A.2.335 Generic or 4.0.2.A.0.58 Generic).
Anyone else got this issue and has got a solution.
Same here. its because of the light sensors.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18404603&postcount=6
heres a guide to turn it off
Thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated.
However, I am afraid this does not resolve the issue. When applying as described in the guide the screen is de-activated straight after answering a call (without moving the device) and even when sliding the hardware keyboard out and pressing 'x' on the screen (to return to normal call screen) and then close the hardware keyboard again the screen is de-activated straight.
Ending calls now is only possible when the hardware keyboard is slided out.
Before applying as described in the guide at least the screen returned to be active after sliding keypad out, pressing 'x' and sliding keypad back in (and then not moving the device).
Therefore I have reverted back to what is was before for the time being.
Any other thoughts, hints, help.

UPDATE 2011/11/27:
I have got my SK17 exchanged again (got the 3rd one now) and on this one it does not occur respectively call screen and sensors work perfect. Finally SE or vodafone seem to fix it on newly produced devices.

odd issue with the keyboard on S2

I have a galaxy s2 running ICS (but the issue occurred) and I have a very odd issue with the keyboard that I am hoping someone could help me with. I have searched around but did not find anything already posted.
A short while ago, my screen broke and I had it replaced, good as new. Well almost. When ever I use the messaging app, or another type of app like that (Whats App for example), when you are composing a new message, and the textbox is shrunk down to one line at the bottom of the screen, there appears to be no input detected on that part of the screen, the send button (on the right hand side) works, and the other controls all work fine, just not the textbox.
So I figured that when the screen broke, it messed up that part of the screen, but other apps that have controls in that region (such as the camera app that has the photo button, or the lock screen with the emergency call button) all work 100%.
Its just textboxes at the bottom of the screen that do not seem to accept touch events. VERY odd.
Has anyone seen this before or know of a few tests/checks I can do. I am a new-ish user to Android.

This really sounds anoying but i know several issues quiet close to yours.
For instance sometimes on my sgs+ one side of the screen....in many cases the top side does not recognize any touching by me...
after loocking and afterwards aunlocking the phone everythings allright again...
i would suggest you to try to install a thirdparty keyboard from the play store.
if this doenstn work.....well maybee try another rom but i would send it to samsung to get a new phone...cus errors caused by wrong placed hardware are always comming back
fare well my friend

WhatsApp audio note bug

Hi all, i have a LG L7 II P714, and my WhatsApp is experiencing a weird problem... when someone sends me a audio note, when i click it to play, the screen goes black (in the chat part, but the green line in upper side stays with less brightness), i first thought it was a problem with my battery, or screen, but i found that other smartphone users are experiencing the same problem, here's a video i found showing the problem:
youtube.com/watch?v=bliQdxj-ezQ
My WhatsApp version is 2.11.152, is there a way i can solve this problem? Thanks for the attention!
I also have this issue. The screen is still barely visible after clicking a voice note when it goes dark. However I can just about make out movement if I scroll up and down the conversation almost like the brightness has been extremely turned down.
If I click back the screen returns to normal. Very strange!
On a Samsung Note 3 running Kitkat 4.4.2 and Whatsapp 2.11.186

I had this issue before until i found out it's not really a problem, it's only one thing i used to do wrong without noticing. When you play audio note on whatsapp don't put your hand or fingers on the sensor next to the front camera, because if you do the sensor will make the screen go off, it's just like when you make a phone call and you put your ears at the speakers the screen goes off by it self and actually the sensor is doing this so you don't press anything with your face while you on the phone. I don't know if this make any sense but i hope it helps lol
Its Because of the proximity sensor it routes the audio to the earpeice instead of the speaker

Thanks for clarifying,
however, I am holding my phone in my hand and, as I click the whatsapp play button, the screen immediatly goes dark.
Is there a way to disable this behaviour for whatsapp?
Thanks

The case on the phone may be tricking the sensor, i took my phone out the case and the voice notes started to play out the loudspeaker

I have no case in my case :silly:
I have a "naked" galaxy note 2
I also faced this problem on my Samsung Galaxy Core Prime SM g360h. There isn't a problem with your device. It's a whatsapp bug. While listening to an audio note, keep your hand or face or anything else away from your phone's proximity sensor, usually located aside of the front camera. This helps almost all the time... The proximity sensor is used to turn off your device's screen while making a call. Whatsapp believes that you're making a call while you're actually listening to an audio note, thus triggers the sensor to turn off your device's screen... just keep your hand away from the sensor while listening to an audio note.... it'll help

Thanks, but it does not help with my Galaxy Note 2
mmmhh i have the same problem. It has nothing to do with holding my hand somewhere. Could this be a bug? I had this problem afther flashing a custom rom. Everything worked fine, accept Whatsapp voice message. And i do use this a lot
Someone with an idea?
I have the same problem, even when my phone as nothing near the sensor, when i play the voice mensage he goes black
there are no xposed modules to this?
using Galaxy s5
I too have the same problem. I am not blocking the proximity sensor. I can't even take back the control of the device till the entire audio file plays completely.
A lot frustrating.
When I press the back button the voice comes back for a second and again nothing.
Please help.
Same problem here, Samsung Note 3, Note 5 and S7 Edge! The screen goes black, but that's not really the bad thing here.
Besides that, the audio usually stops too!
Had the same problem
Something that worked for me ,on my Sony Xperia z3 compact - there is an xposed module called Sensor Disabler. Change the setting of the proximity to remove sensor, reboot and it should work.
The solution for this kind of problem is. Go to 'Setting > Sounds & notification > Interruption' then untick 'events & reminder'. That's it....

Cover mode activate itself

Hi everyone !
I face a strange problem,
Last day, my nose started bleeding and a drop of blood has fallen on the lowest speaker. I washed it under clear water to get it off. (Since it's waterproof it shall not create any problems...)
Since this event, the sony style cover mode keep thinking that i'm opening and closing the smart cover.
Firstly, the screen was going on and off by itself, I wans't understanding what's happening since in recovery mode all is working fine.
Later, a pop up showed on my screen asking me to give permissions to smart cover app. I denied since I don't use it.
Luckily I have a smart cover that I don't use (it's not handy when fully opened so I stopped using it, it cannot be because of this since I flashed a lot of differents firmware since this day)
I paired the cover with the phone when the screen was on for enough time. It does had worked and instead of shutting down the screen, displayed the smart cover screen lock (A small square in the center of the screen, fitting with the window)
To avoid this, I deleted the smart cover app folder and datas using recovery, rebooted, miracle ! No more little square screen !
But... Even if the screen is as it should be, touchsceen is not working on the non window areas (it does work only in the square of the window. So I can't use touchscreen outside of this area.
I tried to delete all things I found related to "touchblock" in system and data but it does not worked...
I can do every actions on my phone using Adb with wifi or not, control on the screen using a mouse with otg or using wifi with teamviewer, or using recovery to do everything system side !
If someone is able to help me finding a solution let me know i'll be very grateful !
Thanks for reading (And sorry if i made mistakes in my explainations, English is not my first language )
