Looking to go from Oreo back to Nougat on my US997 G6 - LG G6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Any good directions for dummies out there on how to get my G6 back on Nougat. I'm a total rookie but would love to give it a try. Really wish I wouldn't have taken the Oreo update.

Unlock bootloader and flash stock KDZ with LGUP and UPPERCUT. By the way, what exactly you don't like about 8.0 update? It's superior in every aspect, at least on stock.

Downgrade Nougat 7.0 to Marshmallow

I was finally able to get LG to repair my V10 under warranty to fix that overheated processor issue! Which is great, I hear people were having trouble getting LG to respond. I just asked via Facebook messenger and things got rolling.
But now I received the phone back and it's got Nougat! Nooo!! The whole point of keeping the V10 was for the wide compatibility of rooting, Xposed, customization etc and now I'm afraid I'm stuck in Nougat hell. Is there a way to downgrade back to Marshmallow safely? I'm trying to search the answers but the results are somewhat chaotic. I read that a Samsung user was able to downgrade his S7 no problem. Please point me in the right direction, anyone.

Not possible currently, unless some of the Devs can come up with a way.

Crap. So if I try to flash a backup I made back in Marshmallow, I'll brick?
Sent from my LG-H918 using Tapatalk
Possibly, although i don't know for certain. Nor do I know how to flash a backup without TWRP or some other recovery.

Sorry to bring this back up, but any news on this front?

hello I'm in the same boat I got a V10 back from LG quote and quote repair shop and they f***** it up they f***** it up by first upgrading it to nougat and then be second they messed up the Google factory protection where I cannot log into my own phone. did you find a solution for downgrading from 7.0 to 6.0? in fact I had to V10 both of them useless pieces of crap 1 overheated hard brick and then the other is this LG shop defect thinking about switching to Samsung

I have seen that h901 30b and 30c both are on ARBv2. And luckily 20j and 20l are also on ARBv2 while 20e is on ARBv1. So it would be safe to downgrade an h901 from 30b or 30c to 20j or 20l using LGUP without any problems actually.

If I was to use this method, do I do "refurbish" in LGP Or "upgrade" In LGUP. I assume cause I would be going from 7.0 to 6.0 It would be refurbish. or does it not matter? I'm running the T mobile LGV10 H901 30c

Use refurbish for downgrade. I guess it should matter.
@NestorRamUre
Did you use refurbish option or upgrade option (while downgrading from 30B to 20J or L)? May be you were using upgrade option, due to which you were getting the error. If so, try it with refurbish option.

Yeah I tried it, and it just gets stuck on 7% and fails. So I flashed back to 7.0 and all is well.
why downgrade is possible on 961, but not possible on 901?! the same phone!

I finally have an answer as to WHY you can't downgrade to MM even though ARB wasn't incremented.
When Nougat was released, the updated laf (download mode) to only flash KDZs that have a signature. MM KDZs don't have that signature.
If someone wants to get me the partition listing (instructions in the root thread), then you guys will have root again -- even on Nougat.
-- Brian
So we're you able to figure it out?

No, it is not possible unless you are rooted, but I finally have a working root method for Nougat. Just waiting on @famewolf to provide me some information to see if it needs to be modified for the V10 (working on G4 and V20).

Which rom is stock yet debloated?

Newbie (well to the V30) here, coming over from the HTC 10, Nexus 5x previous to that... Would like to run a rather stock experience, rooted, twrp and debloated. I've got the AT&T version of this phone.
Which rom is the closest to that?
Thanks!

BoomBox rom falls under your criteria.
Just check if it's compatible with your model, I'm not sure.

I find it easier to just debloat manually...some people consider decent apps as boat and delete stuff you may like...so root delete the junk and enjoy

Boombox is partially debloated with some unnecessary apps being removed, but there's another full-sized stock rom named "Theory of Everything" which is more noticeably debloated and has the features for the AI software. I'd definitely recommend that to anybody new to the LG V30.
Thanks for the reply guys, i think i may jsut go stock and debloat on my own w/Titanium Backup...

Once you convert to Oreo US998 or H930 there's not much to debloat. Wallpapers, Facebook. What else? And I like Facebook. LG Health? I sort of like that, actually.

Right. Jump you post #193 in that thread. Post #1 in that thread has copy and paste of post #193, but the original is easier to read than quoted version.
Print it out if you can. Don't skip steps. It clearly tells when the go to the next section. It's not hard, you just have to follow the steps.
CONCEPT: @TxanMoe discovered LG Oreo on the V30/V30+/V30S has nice flaw where you can flash your own bootloader unlock code to successfully unlock the bootloader, install TWRP and root.
But you need fastboot flash commands. In North America, only the carrier unlocked US998 has that. But you can use dev patched LGUP to convert any other North America phone (except T-mobile H932) to become a US998 Oreo phone. FLASH bootloader unlock code. BOOM. Sprint and Verizon users then add back LTE bands or VoLTE/Wi-fi calling.
Similar situation for the the rest of the world with the European H930 Oreo. Some differences but for this overall view, it's the same concept.
Now, we have learned the June Android security patch will have fix for "LG bootloaders". Unlock the bootloader while you can!
Thank you to all for the input. The phone arrived, but OLED has an issue, some green dot thats always on. More than just one stuck pixel.. back it goes...

There no point in relocking your bootloader. Starkiller uploaded the full ota. You need to reflash firmware and dont root it. My guide has the instructions for reflashing stock. After you do that put the ota file in the root of your sd card then go to settings, apps, and find Moto update services and allow it to have access to your sd card. Then go the update Moto software from settings
---------- Post added at 04:23 PM ---------- 3Previous post was at 04:18 PM ----------
But the ota starkiller uploaded is for the boost Mobile variant xt1922-7 not for xt1922-9 sorry I forgot about that. Do not use the ota I mentioned. Best you can do untill your pie update is uploaded on mirrors is either wait for the ota to hit your device then reflash stock firmware then take the pie ota or just wait. Either way you still need to be on unrooted stock firmware. relocking your bootloader does absolutely nothing anymore basically.
Wait, so if I get the XT1922-9 model (Best Buy/Target) I'll be stuck on Oreo? I guess that's the downside of not getting a carrier-locked phone.

Can anyone confirm this as a fact? I bought an unlocked model XT1922-9 from Lenovo direct.
I actually want to remain on 8/Oreo because 9/Pie blocks call recording apps. :fingers-crossed:
If I got stuck on Pie, I'd have to root in order to get call recording back. I'd rather not bother!
if anyone is bummed Motorola is taking so long to update our unlocked g6 play/wanting updated vendor and stuff to run pie gsi's and looking to flash pie for unlocked retus jeter (xt1922-9,) just flash the USC version on lolinet. Everything I have tested so far works just fine, only thing I have not tested yet is sim(calling, text, data.) My IMEI is still being shown in settings so I'm guessing when I pop in my verizon sim everything will be fine but YMMV. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked first before flashing because the boot.img will give a bad key message but it works fine.

in about phone, software channel still says US retail even with the USC firmware.

Maybe I should have phrased it better. Is Pie coming to this model at all? It seems like Pie is being reserved for carrier-branded phones, perhaps as incentive to get a carrier-branded phone instead of an unlocked non-carrier-branded phone. If that is not the case, is Motorola/Lenovo waiting till the last minute? Cause Android Q will be here in a few months (August).

No, I didn't receive the OTA. I flashed the leaked V30b OTA I got here on XDA. Because the experience on Pie was awful (choppy, very bad battery life) even after a factory reset, I reflashed 22j KDZ with LG UP and decided to wait for a official Pie roll out. Few days later, I found out that the official Pie upgrade is available through LG bridge. That did it. My phone is at least as smooth as on Oreo and the battery life is quite amazing but it obviously depends from personal usage. The only thing that seems different is the RAM management. Now uses more RAM with the same settings and installed apps. Regards.
PS: Completely stock, no root, no unlocked bootloader, no anything rather than complete stock.
Thank you for your answer.
Yes I also noticed that Pie uses more RAM than Oreo and the RAM management was bad and random. Maybe 4Go don't cut it anymore? I don't know.
Glad to hear that it's working perfectly for you. Unfortunately I can't update through LG Bridge, I get the "Cannot check the software version" error
It is the same for me, my battery life since I've updated my phone by OTA is awful, is it possible to downgrade without rooting my phone which I've never did?

While it talks about how to downgrade for bootloader unlock, it's still just downgrading from Pie to Oreo. Same method, no matter the reason.
Downgrading to Oreo KDZ has nothing to do with root. It's just most people who downgrade are doing that so they can then unlock bootloader and root (on early Oreo).
But you can downgrade to most recent Oreo, whatever you wish.
Use the method in post #2, ignore the reason most people use it.

Cheers I'm gona use this :good:
No issues on my device during the first week. Only stock Gallery app is slower and more laggy than before. It's like cache is not working there so every time I open some folder in Gallery it starts loading pictures from beginning which is causing lags.
Some other issues are there with Nova launcher and multitasksing, but this is due to this launcher. On stock everything is fine.

You need Dev Patched LGUP compatible with Pie.
You need to update to newest Dev Patched LGUP found in any of the (6) Pie KDZ threads I maintain.
Also found in Frankenstein thread (in the instructions post).
Uninstall any prior version. Read Installation instructions carefully!

back to stock PIE UK

Hi guys,
I'm want to go to stock LG PIE Firmware.
I have the LG H930 and am from the UK.
Can anyone help me with how to get back to stock and which PIE firmware I should use for my phone?
There seems to be a wide range of stock pie firmware and want to ensure I get the correct one.
Also wanting to unroot and lock the bootloader
Thanks,
Ross

What are you on right now?
If you have H930 and you live in UK, the answer is simply the EU H930 Pie KDZ.
[H930][STOCK][PIE]LG V30 European open market H93030b_00_OPEN_EU_OP_0704.kdz

I don't understand the dilemma. What other options were you considering?

I run rooted stock firmware with mods to customize and control my phone. I would never un-root and lock bootloader unless I was selling the phone.
Having TWRP custom recovery alone plus Titanium Backup app two tool I am loathe to give up.

Thanks for your help.
As much as I love a good boot loop, I just wanted to avoid one before going back to stock.
I'll check it out now

Glad to be of help. I was merely curious about the "wide range of stock pie firmware" comment.
I only post full image KDZ or TWRP-flashable zips based on full image KDZ, and I post those in the ROMs section. Full image KDZ is stock, official LG firmware. (I maintain Nougat, Oreo, Pie KDZ threads for several V30 variants, but they are all clearly labelled for which variant and which OS.)
Yes, someone has posted beta Pie partial image "update" files -- which by definition are not yet official release and possibly buggy.
Stick with KDZ and you'll be OK.
