Unlike other droids there does not seem to be a secure erase option under reset. Returning the phone so just want to be sure.

I was in the bootloader and clicked factory reset and I quickly took the battery out to stop it. Would that screw anything up on the phone?

You're probably ok, but pulling the battery during an operation like that isn't the brightest idea. It's like you're trying to get your phone bricked. Resetting your phone isn't as bad as the alternative. Doesn't it ask you if you're sure before it resets?

I also agree. Also i do think that it verified by reset
It didn't ask I was in the bootloader not the recovery.

Jw should I just do the reset and then install my stuff back?

Just try and boot up if all is good take it as a lesson learned. If not then just do a full data wipe and then a nand restore.

I cut a ribbon cable trying to replace the screen in my girlfriends Dinc. Now the repairs cost more than I want to spend so i'm going to sell it as broken on Ebay.
Question is, is there a way to wipe everything/hard reset it without the display working? When I power it on it does that short vibrate so I know it's still working. Just can't see anything.

If you have rooted and adb configured, you can try: adb shell wipe data.
Never had it rooted

You could try flashing the stock rom (using RUU).

It doesn't have to be.
Has anyone encrypted their device?
If so, have you noticed a significant loss in performance and/or battery?

Bump. Anyone?

I'm going to try it today on the nexus 7. It seems it'll decrypt on unlock, so I'd imagine unlocking could be slower but once you are using phone nothing else should be effected. It causes no ill effects on my 7 then I'll do it to the gs3 as well.
I would try it on my Xoom, but the performance between these two devices is signifcantly different.

I would like to encrypt mine GS3 also. I wonder if I encrypt both phone and SD card will it affect it, if I want to install Custom ROMS or Restore ROMS since you do that from clockworkmod recovery? and it's way before your phone decrypts on unlocks.

Yeah I was thinking about that too. Not sure how it would work.

I tried to enter recovery on my one, I have entered "safe mode" by accident a few times. What is it and will this be useful to somebody else?

It's a way to start your phone without allowing any third party apps to load up on boot. A way to disable or remove one that might be causing issues when you start up.

You can manually get into Safe Mode by holding the Power Off option when it comes up. Hold power switch until the menu comes up, then long hold the "Power Off" option.
Sorry. It was a little self serving posting this. I was hoping it would lead to something big. I don't remember my ruby, Xoom, g2x or any of my other past devices doing this.

I remember it from my HD2, but I don't recall how to invoke it.
It is useful if your phone gets messed up and you need to uninstall something.
Does anyone know if Knox can protect against law enforcement collecting data out of your device short of physically tearing the thing apart and physically extracting the data directly from storage?
You planning something really bad?
Sent from my VZW Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk 4
Planning? No. Just like to be prepared for certain scenarios. The one currently in my head is my phone gets illegally confiscated. Is my data safe long enough for me to get home, go into my remote management console and wipe the device?
Remote wiping isn't a new technology. If police confiscate cell phones they typically turn them off (pull the battery most likely) until a qualified tech investigator can inspect it. I think you can pretty much guarantee that they would pull the sim out of it before firing it up just as protocol. No sim, no communication with the device....no wipe.
Well that blows. Sounds like I would need an app that always listens and can wipe the device from a spoken trigger.

It would be bad for business if his phone here confiscated if you know what I mean

Even if wiped, the data is still recoverable by law enforcement.

Correct.

If you downloaded the data over Verizon's network, then law enforcement already has your data.
Well, I wholly intend to make use of built-in encryption, s/mime and a VPN to home. I'm not so much worried about my data getting intercepted en route. I don't think I'm "safe" (who is), though. I'm just trying to see what Knox can do for me with my Don't Tread On Me stance when it comes to The Man.
