Greetings,
I recently acquired a Samsung S9 plus device ( G965F/DS) used 1.5month.
At first everything looked great , but in due course , i could not open Samsung Health app.
I downloaded root checker and there was no root on my phone .
Then i tried to download netflix but i realised that it was not available at play store (in their official site they say its because of rooted or something relevant) .
My question is what's going on . I've never encountered such a problem before with any device I had .
Can someone enlighten me about what to do or how to face such problems ?
I am pretty sure that the phone is not rooted ( well 85%) but i cannot understand what the previous owner did to the phone. He claims its not rooted.
Thanks for your time !
It looks like, Knox is tripped. Boot the phone to Recovery and see if "Warranty Void" is at 0x1. If yes, knox is tripped and the phone was rooted.

Gave it a try, there was no option to view the warrranty void.
but i discovered that the OEM bootloader unlock is activated. i can disable it , but disabling it will it fix the problem?
Sorry, my fault. Boot the Phone to the Download Mode, not the Recovery. OEM-Unlock only won't trip Knox, but it will factory reset your Phone, when you check/uncheck the option.

warranty void : 1 (0x030c) it says mate!
Yes, Knox is tripped. The phone was rooted, or it had a custom rom.

So , now what can i do ? nothing? you suggest staying like this or installing a rom of xda?
Of course, you can root the stock rom, then the most apps should work. Also, you can install a custom rom, it's your decision.

According to your opinion , any advantages of instaling othe rom?
I won't install a custom rom, because you would lose some Samsung-Exclusive features. But with some custom Roms the Perfomance, or the Battery can be better.

Really grateful for all your replies pal , i do appreciate them a lot ! If i would choose a custom rom, which one should i try ? lineageos?
If you want the Vanilla Android Style, you can use lineageos. But thanks to the Developers at XDA, there are many roms.
I can't say any special custom rom, because I've never used one at my newer phones.
Maybe you can open a new thead where you can write anythying you want in your rom, and maybe anyone knews a rom.

Hello,
I've never had a samsung, this should (I have yet to decide) be my first one and I've basically understood that samsung hates you and would put a camera facing the screen just to know you're not rooting it.
So I want my warranty and I wouldn't really like to spend money on app like the one for the flash counter because I think I will have this phone just for a short time
I've understood that someone called mrrobinson has managed to find a way to root without letting the flash counter know. But in his thread I've found files for all the possible existing usa carriers, but I have a normal i9300 for europe.
And so is there ANY way to root flash cwm without flash counter appearing?
And if I flash a rom with cwm no problem as usual, right?

No
But Triangle Away will remove custom rom count .
Flashing a stock rom and a factory reset will revert modified status to original .

In that case run on stock if you don't want to buy cheap apps .
jje
That's not really the point. The fact is that it seems more legit to me to not meet flash counter instead of just canceling it.
But so there's nothing like that mrrobinson method for normal s3?
Thank you btw
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1728441 This for example, would it work? Would I be able to flash cwm then without that counter?
Hey guys. Sorry if this has been answered before. I've looked and didn't see it in here so I figured I'd ask. I really don't want to set my phone into "custom" status in case I drop it or break it somehow Anyway, my question is will installing TWRP recovery from GooManager get me a "custom" status? Also, if I install a custom ROM, is there anyway to "trick" it into saying "Official" when I have ROMs and TWRP installed? I really wanted to install ROMs, but I'm too afraid of dropping it or something while the ROM is installed. Thanks!
I believe the "Custom" shows up periodically if you have a custom ROM installed. But really, it shouldn't bother people so much. It's pretty easy to tell if a custom ROM is installed without rebooting the phone. If Verizon cared that much, they could find out. FWIW, I didn't see "Custom" with the open padlock at boot when running stock rooted (aside from during the root process using the pre-release kernel.) It was only after installing a custom ROM that I see it periodically now.

Thanks for your reply But the reason I'm asking is because I wanted to know if there's any way to install a recovery or custom ROM while keeping the "official" status for warranty reasons. Is there?

If you were to physically damage it, you would likely still be able to boot to download mode and Odin back to 100% stock. In that case you'd have what you are asking for. I don't believe there is a way to spoof the phone into thinking it's fully official. Like I said, if Verizon/Asurion/etc care enough, they should be able to find out unless you flash back to pre-root stock. Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry to ask a million questions, but I used to have my GS4 on the stock ROM but rooted but with TWRP recovery. The statuses everywhere read as Samsung Official. I mean even in ODIN mode too. Is that what they check for in the warranty process? Or can they detect if it was just rooted or have a custom recovery and deny a warranty claim? Thanks for your patience with me.

Happy to help...but I really don't know what Verizon or the insurance provider would check. Some individuals within those places will probably check more thoroughly than others. But I've heard several stories of people taking their phone to Verizon, the tech seeing that it's rooted/fully custom, and replacing it anyway.
If you ever need to take it in for a warranty claim (hardware issue) I'd go back to stock first, but that's my personal opinion.
Edit: Even if it's just stock w/ root, a decently savvy tech could tell just by looking into your app list and seeing "SuperSU" or "SuperUser" or any other root-required apps.

No ,there is no method published till now. Possibility to do that is less then 20% since we cant access the hidden scripts for analysing binary counts..

Im thinking this:
If one wants to get root and custom firmwares onto the Mega (I9205 in my case), then the only way that i can imagine right now is to flash one of the prerooted firmwares and then flash CWM with Mobile Odin from within the system afterwards (I know Mobile Odin does not officialy support the Mega yet).
Is there any other way to get root and CWM without touching the binary counter and having to risk using "Triangle away" ?
According to some more experienced users, mega does not have a binary counter. It shows "customised" rather than a counter.
To flash a stock rom with stock recovery is sufficient to restore to its stock state.

Thank you very much for your reply. If this is true, then that is really good news and a fair decision on Samsungs behalf, to make it that way.
Yes just the stock rom flashing from Odin will make it back in warranty and Real factory Default
IN case of Mega we don't need any triangle away/Binary counter reset kernel.

I naively think, to make it easier to restore to stock state will decrease the chance to go service for those who will flash anyway. Triangle away can sometimes soft brick a samsung device.
Hi Guys
I have read on the internet that Samsung Galaxy S3 can be rooted without wiping the data i.e. without tripping the knox. This thread gave me a heads up on the basics
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2367406
I still have few other questions, I am sorry if these are some silly questions but I don't have much knowledge about the rooting process. I have finally decided to root as I am fed up of Google's crap updates like Play magazine, hangouts etc etc and the fact that Samsung has forgotten its old customers is an icing on the cake. Anyways the questions are-
1. The main question can you please tell me the step by step procedure to root without loosing the data, i.e. without tripping Knox? And what does it mean actually?
2. In the thread mentioned above, it is written that there will be no more over the air(OTA) official updates. So, lets say Samsung releases a Kitkat update for S3(which isn't happening) then the one which I will get will be from the developers and not from Samsung right?
3. What exactly are toolkits?
4. How much time will rooting take?
Thanks

Hey there firstly knox is security software built by samsung for some random reason http://www.sammobile.com/2013/02/28/samsung-introduces-samsung-knox/ , knox has a counter which shows if you have flashed your device and therefore void your warranty .... rooting your device will set this counter to custom (but trust me its worth it) here is the link to chainfire autoroot http://download.chainfire.eu/229/CF-Root/CF-Auto-Root/CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gti9300.zip plug your phone into pc (download mode .... first power off then simultameously press volume dowm and home button and power button) open odin then click pda and choose the zip file CF- auto root that you downloaded. Ensure auto root and f reset time boxes are checked unselect anything else... rooting will probably take about a minute and half and boom you are there. Enjoy your amazing S3!! As for OTA you wont recieve samsung OTA as your devce will now say custom under status but some developers have OTA function but you have to flash their Rom in order to get it, I recommend SPR Rom, has great feautues and no bugs at all. Remember to flash philz recovery after rooting incase anything goes wrong. Good luck!!

Thank you for replying. There is no sign of Knox in my phone. How to check/open it in the phone itself? Is ODIN better than Kies? Will chainfire autoroot wipe off the phone's data? Is there any tutorial video for the same? How should I take backup of the whole data before following the rooting procedure?

There is no Knox in Galaxy S III roms...
You can't flash CF-Root and root your phone with Kies...
CF-ROOT doesn't wipe your data and everything still on their places
You cant backup whole rom without root and Clockwork Recovery mode....
Hi All!
I have been looking around these forums for a few days now and can't find anything concrete on rooting my S6 EDGE 6.01 BUILD: G925IDVU3EPGG.
I have found plenty for the previous builds, and am unsure whether they still apply to my build.
Can someone out there provide the info relevant to gaining root on this build please?
Thanks in advance, David.

Okay, I am at your mercy, I read in a forum elsewhere that a user lost the fingerprint function.
However, you say that yours still works... that's good to hear.
If I decide to go ahead with root, would it be advisable to uninstall the banking app?
Or will the other functions of the Banking app still work?
Do you know of any developer working on root without tripping knox?

Yeah mine works perfect, ive rooted an unrooted many times and never had a problem with it.
It doesnt really matter if you uninstall the app chances are it just wont work after root.
And im not really sure now... there are developers for s6 edge still but ita mainly about custom ROMS. Im not sure if theres any devs still working on root. Have a good luck on here.
One thing to ask.. on settings > about device > software info.. what does it say for android security patch level?
Btw i would have a look at custom ROMS too. CarHD is an excellent rom. Comes with root and loads of extras

CF Auto Root looks a lot easier to install than the TWRP method. There are so many threads here about howto install, yet am confused which way to go.
Looks like no matter which I choose, Knox will be tripped even with a custom ROM installed.
All I really want to do is edit the hosts file to circumvent ads.
I have downloaded CarHDRom_V.24.7_4DPGW.zip and will eventually install it. I have read the procedure, but I don't understand why I would flash a stock firmware over my current stock firmware before flashing CarHDRom on to the phone, and the author's grammar is a little hard to comprehend... ergo if you have a link that spells it out in plain english for an old man, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks.

Cf autoroot is the easiest just flash through odin.
Do you need step by step instructions?
For CarHD rom all you do is flash through twrp it is very easy.
You must root first before flashing.

I find the CF Auto Root option easy as I have used Odin before with an S2 & S4. I am just paranoid with this phone, as to remove the battery from the Edge isn't easy.
I figure I will go the CF Auto Root method first, then CarHD.
My problem with TWRP is I have read some people have had issues when it came to swipe to load, (or words to that affect).
So a clear cut procedure of TWRP and CarHD install, will be greatly appreciated if you have the time.
Thanks again. :good:

Right so first thing, download the autoroot for your g925i
https://autoroot.chainfire.eu
Download TWRP
https://dl.twrp.me/zerolte/
Make sure CarHD 24.7 is saved to your device.
1st thing to do back up your stuff.
Open odin. V3.10.6 works best.
Boot to download mode.
Flash TWRP through odin in AP. Make sure auto reboot and f reset time are checked. Repartition unchecked. Same options for cf autoroot.
Once complete boot into twrp recovery and swipe to make modifications.
Once done you can click back up and backup your stuff, or you can make a full nandroid backup, this will backup absolutely everything including the current rom your using, data, settings. I reccomend this.
Boot back into download mode.
Now flash cf autoroot through AP in odin. Unzip the zip before placing in odin.
Once complete and you have the pass screen phone will reboot. 1st boot can take a few minutes and can bootloop a few times this is normal. Once phone back on, download root checker from playstore just to verify root is done.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.joeykrim.rootcheck
If root is succesful i would 100% reccomend backing up your efs partition. This will backup your IMEI. Loss of imei is the worst thing and can rarely be revived.
Use partitions backup app to back it up.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ma.wanam.partitions
Once efs is backed up transfer it to a safe place not on the phone, on a memory stick or pc or somewhere safe. If its on the phone you may not be able to get it should you need it. Chances are you wont ever need it but its just to be safe. I see people always on here trying to fix there phone because efs has corrupted.
If all this is fine so far power off phone. Boot back into recovery.
In TWRP click install, navigate to the saved CarHD rom and swipe ro flash.
Once the installer comes on make sure to choose full wipe. 1st time you have to start from fresh. Once prompted choose arter97 kernel for your phone model. Then the installer will do the rest.
Again once its done select reboot device. The 1st boot can take a while, like up to 20-30 minutes as it has a lot to install to the phone. If it sticks on the samsung logo just leave it a while.
After all this you will have CarHD and rooted phone.
Once again make sure you are 100% before trying anything! Everything you do is at your own risk.
Any problems or anything you want to know let me know
Awsome Thankyou very much!
