Screen protector
I just unboxed my Jade from Expansys USA and it did not come with a screen protector. Is this normal?
I am ExStatic because I located my screen protector
I rechecked my box this morning and I found my screen protector. It was stuck to the side of the box by a static charge. In my own defense this was one heck of a static charge. No amount of shaking could dislodge the protector. I thought the protector had seperated from the backing and was glued but I was finally able to use my fingernail to slide it out.
Once again, Expansys/HTC I apologize for any slight; "My bad."
I've got the Anti-Glare version from Brando (blue package) and it's just great! The smooth surface goes well with the smoothness of the phone cover itself. But the best is you don't see your fingerprints on the display. It also feels better, when you type text.
Had the Brando Crystal Clear version before (red package), but got scratches on it very soon and it's annoying to see every finger wipe on the display.
have you tried ultra-clear version of brando. i also want a protector but i couldn't decide whether to buy anti-glare or ultra-clear. actually i don't even know the differences of this two. in anti-glare version does sun reflects from the screen, does it prevent to see the screen from non-vertical angles(i don't want others to read my text while i am messaging.)

ultra clear = crystal clear, there are only two sorts of Brando protectors, afaik.
You have much less sun reflection, but it doesn't prevent reading the text from non-vertical angles.
Finally I got my Brando Screen Protector Anti-Glare version.
I works great. The best part is Finger Print Free Feature.
I just got the Ultra Clear in the mail today. Should I use this or the stock screen protector?
I guess the stock on can keep as a spare.
One in Box better ? or worse?
I have been using the original supplied screen protector from the box, but also bought some 'ultraclear' one (not Brando).
Anyone has any experience on which one is better. I found lot of finger smearing with this original one. (I have had other ones in my previous phone without much finger mark on it)

I have used another brand adhesive based screen protector on my expensive Samsung, curved screen phones (Note 8, S10+, now S20+) a few times, each time with limited success. This one seems to have the best qualities without much of the headaches. The difference seems to be two fold - 1) the glass does not curve to fit the screen. On my S20+, it is a flat glass, which covers the screen perfectly, given the small bezel of the S20+ and 2) the weight provided, to be placed on the fingerprint reader during installation.
The Samsung curved Gorilla Glass, while attractive and smooth, does not like screen protectors when used with a case. The fact that this is a flat screen works well with my case (a generic silicon case).
The fingerprint recognition worked immediately, without having to re-register my fingerprint.
The screen is slick - almost slippery - but is just as sensitive to the touch as the naked glass. An added benefit seems to be it's oleophobic (no fingerprints) ability. It doesn't pick up any fingerprints.
Installation is easy, if you take your time and follow directions. Use the level. Clean the screen. Open the adhesive from the proper end. wait for the adhesive to cover the entire screen, and then, wait some more. Use the UV light for the proscribed time. I read some negative reviews here and it is apparent that directions are not being followed. FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! This isn't rocket science, people.
Botoom line - this is better in many ways to the alternative adhesive screen protector that is on Amazon, and I paid about $10 less. I would do it again, and will for my wife's phone.

Yes it does
You need to re scan your fingerprints post install though
I've had it on my S20 ultra for a few months now and no issues, no lifting at the edges either
I recently bought a tempered glass on amazon for my Samsung S20 Plus and got it delivered a month ago. Was eager to try it on and upon trying I realized that it won't stick well around the curved edges. Sadly I wasted 800rs on that. I was using foil based screen protector for long time but it wear out so I'm out for something new. I thought about getting glass or hydrogel one but I've noticed they don't cover whole screen but only flat part. So the edges aren't protected and as a "bonus" this does create sharp edge that is especially noticeable when swiping from edge (like some gestures or something).
So is there good glass or hydrogel protector that covers whole screen, also with rounded part? Can you recommend any? Or should I get back to foil one if it bothers me so much?
My recommendation would be to get a case for the phone, as well. I'm still using the one that came in the box, and it works great with the screen protectors I've used. Though, I haven't tried a tempered glass one. I've been using film ones.
Haha...nevermind. I suppose you probably already got one in the intervening 6 months.

Downloaded the December update, installed smoothly and I see ZERO improvement in the fingerprint reader success rate. Same symptoms as pre update - the left finger work reasonably well, but the right finger fails massively. Most of the time I just run out of tries and have to enter the PIN to unlock. I have tried defining multiple times, focussing on different areas of the finger, trying to trigger with a full overlap or edge touch, etc. Nothing works consistently. For example, I can get the fingerprint reader to trigger and unlock with the finger placed down a certain way, then I lock the phone and try to place the finger as much as possible in the same location and reader will fail repeatedly.
What gives? This is with the Tocol screen protectors that supposedly do not interfere with fingerprint operation. I am coming to the Pixel 6 from the OP7T where the optical reader works very very well, so there is nothing wrong with my right fingerprint per se. Any suggestions? Have tried this with both low and high touch sensitivity, which should have nothing to do with the optical sensor.
Very disappointed with this phone so far. There are so many people here who report no issues, so I am wondering if there is a hardware sample variation?

That's weird. Mine works great after the mid November update. Did you remove and added the fingerprints again?
Yes, multiple times. I finally decided to pull off the Tocol screen protector and things started working . So much for hundreds of reviews on Amazon stating that it is one of the few that does not interfere with the fingerprint reader.
Anyone has suggestions about screen protectors that do not interfere with the Pixel 6 fingerprint reader? I am very rough on my phones and without a screen protector the screen will be all dinged up by keys or other things in my pockets within weeks.

I have a Mr. Shield tempered glass glass protector and the fingerprint sensor works reasonbly well. Making sure your skin is not dry is very helpful.
im using a Spigen screen protector. I did turn on the extra sensitivity setting but ended up turning it off as it was too sensitive.
My FPR works BUT its no better than before being honest...

After having figured out that initial learning is the solution for me, it works without any issues.
I use Tocol as well.

Do screen protectors actually work as advertised? I used to always have one on and more often than not they cracked at the slightest drop or event. Then I finally said I'm not spending another dime on them since my phone was about ready for an upgrade anyway within 6 months. Sure enough I dropped it a couple of times without a scratch. I never got another one and it's been at least 3 years. Now with FPR an issue perhaps it's not worth it? Just my opinion no need to flame. Are there any studies about the usefulness of them?

Back in the day I used foils to protect against scratches.
Nowerdays we use glass protectors on all our phones.
And as my daughter and wife had several impact cracks, I came to the conclusion or illusion, protectors seem to have saved a couple of displays. Sometimes the cracks in the protectors looked like spiderwebs. I am pretty shure thes incidents would have definitely killed display glass.
Totally comes down to personal choice. Some people drop there phones a lot. Some don't.
For me, I'm historically a non dropper but i occasionally put my phone in my pocket and forget there is a key or something else already in there. Thats been the time where I've scratched my screen.

@phupton Yeah I get it and I was in that camp for a long time. But I wonder if the screen would have cracked or that the protector is so fragile it breaks way sooner than the screen would. That's why I'd love to see some studies. As for scratches that's another story of which I'm not sure. I never place my phone in a pocket with anything in it, be it my jeans, sweats, jacket or laptop bag. It's even rare I have a tissue in one of those pockets. So scratches are a non issue for me. (fingers crossed so I don't jinx it) lol

I'd consider me as a non dropper as well.
And then there was this one day when I forgot about my phone in a suit jacket pocket, put my jacket over a stair railing and my brand new Pixel made its way 2 floors down with a couple of smashing concrete and metal hits in between.
It not only survived, it was flawless. I don't know if the protective glass played a role. Still gave me peace of mind.
It's a similar argument to if you should use a 'clear' filter on a DSLR lens to help protect the lens from scratches
+ When you clean it, you are only risking scratches on the filter, which is relatively cheap to replace
+ It 'feels' you are protecting the lens
+ It also keeps fingermarks and liquids away from the lens
+ It's actually probably easier to clean, being flat
- The filter can make optical reflections and other artifacts worse
- The coatings on the front lens element (the one that's exposed) tend to be very tough anyway
- If the filter gets hit hard enough to break it, shards of glass from it may hit and damage the lens anyway
So just like with screen protectors - pros and cons and personal preferences. No absolute good or bad....
I'm a Nikon and non filter kind of guy.

Had not tried this specifically but had tried putting a bit of saliva on my fingertips and then wiping them off. Will keep that in mind when the new screen protector arrives. Without a protector the FPR is working great, but knowing myself I am going to scratch the screen with keys or something else within a week of running "naked".
With respect to the protector discussion - I agree that protectors have close to zero benefit when it comes to drops. But I am using them because I am not very careful with my stuff and tend to scratch screens and lenses with keys, letting them slosh around in a pocket on the dashboard of the Jeep, etc. I am running a Spigen Liquid Air case which I have used for many years with many different phones and the design seems to be good enough to protect against drops.
I think you need new fingers.

Whats funny is I bought a similar one from rhinoshield that was more expensive and this one works way better. Fingerprint performance was bad with the rhinoshield one. This one works perfect every time.
I'm using whatever tempered glass protector came with my case, my single fingerprint has worked just fine since the November update.

I have a huge problems with ****y S23 ultra. I had tempered glass screen protector... I had huge problems to add fingerprints.... after a day noone worked... I have to set new recordings after every day....
I gave up and bought plastic screen protector.. everything working great.... after a day again no fingerprint can be read..... I hate this phone.... is there any other solution? On S20 there was an option to remove battery optimization on com.biometrics app....

I had same problems with a glass protector - i had to press very hard to recognize my finger.
Now with matte folio i dont have a problem. Have you resetted your fingerprints after instaling the new protector?

Not all tempered glass is capable of FPS. Option is to use a Hydrogel screen protector or just buy the tempered glass with hole on the FPS portion which looks like sh*t.
There is also what they call a Dome Glass that can make FPS work, but the attachment uses some sort of a liquid glue. Just make sure to avail the one that doesn't stick like a super glue

Man, i have tried 4 different brands tempered glass, 2 of them was with thinner glass on the fingerpring area - all didnt work good or didnt worked at all. I had many phones before that, never had this problem.
I have used a cheap matte plastic screen protector on the S21U, S22U and now on the S23U with no problems whatsoever with enhanced touch sensitivity turned on.
I have the same problem. Fingerprint reader is s* on S23U. I've tried many different screen protectors and it still sucks. My previous phone was Huawei P30 Pro and the fingerprint scanner was amazing even with a $1 protector on it.
The moment they tried to install that ass looking protector with the hole in the shop I was thinking what's going on here and what's wrong with a fingerprint reader.
This sux. So I have to try different sceen protector.... that could be expensive

i use samsung screen protector and i do not have any issue with biometrics... I don't even use enhanced sensitivity. Om my local forum everyone that use Whitestone Dome Glass have no issue with biometrics too, they put it exactly like in instruction using this metal weight during mounting. Some ppl that experiment with other brands have issue here and there.
I have use the Spigen Neo_flex and works great only issue is that like to smudge with fingerprints easy, and the I have the offical one on the S22 ultra and work great too, I have official one coming for my S23 ultra, for me the FPS works no better or worse than my S22 ultra.
Have you tried recording multiple copies of your fingerprints, in my experience, this vastly improves recognition?

- Then tried those UV glass Ni-shen. Depite the fact those glass dont stick and do bubble, I have around 70-75% success rate with again same finger registered many time.

Maybe you have defect one, I never had issue with the FPS on my 22ultra or the 23 Ultra, I know people complain of it, but if your thumb is really dry that effects it, and its ultrasonic, not optical like lot of the other phones that have the in-display finger print reader, I like the samsung better since when I`m on the lake with my seadoo and in the water and my hands are pretty wet it still works, the optical ones won`t work unless you dry your thumb.

Doubt, I had 2x S23, was the same.
My hand are all over the place. Calm and no coffee = dry.
Sport or coffee or both = sweaty.
Most reviewers state the same. And this is partially because 4-5 years ago, we were use to ceramic one.
Those are way faster, and 99% success rate.
100% sure this is because people comparing 2 different technologies, and expect the same result. Under screen reading, is somewhat recent, and has a hader challenge to read between pixels a small print that never get positioned the same way each time

I use a Whitestone Dome Glass screen protector myself (been using them ever since they came out).
It works fine with fingerprints.
With all screen protectors one needs to increase touch sensitivity in Settings-->Display-->Touch sensitivity.
Yes, Dome Glass uses a UV-activated liquid glue. It comes with a jig to assist in placing the protector on the screen and a UV lamp to cure the glue. For me, the installation jig makes the procedure smooth and flawless every time - no bubbles and perfect placement of the protector. I would not use any other protector than the Dome Glass one.
I used to use the AmFilm but there glue is crap this year. The best for me now is the IMBZBK tempered glass UV glue installation. My fingerprint sensor with glass on works as good as with screen protector off. 95 percent success rate with glass on. Follow the instructions and you should have a perfect installation with this glass.

I have the exact same bad experience with FPS with tempered glass screen protector on, sometimes it works perfectly but other times it doesn't work at all, it's so frustrating...
I had Huawei P30 Pro and the FPS worked flawless everytime with any screen protector I've used.
Or y'all could save yourself some trouble and stop using sh***y screen protectors in the first place and you wouldn't have these problems.

I tried that one and finished in the garbage, bad quality product, is a screen protector that covers the front cam degrading the picture quality. Screen protectors should not cover the cam. Even from that brand I tried the camera lens protectors and after a while I saw slight scratches on it, now I have another brand that works fine.
The only way to not having issues with the FP is having a TPU screen protector and that's it, I have one and I have a rate of 80%-90% aprox and I will live with it.
Another very important point is this FP reader doesnt work at best with very dry skin, put your finger in your mouth, blow your humid breath and it will work better. I do this sometimes with other FP readers like when I enter in my house.
That is not true. If you install the glass correctly you won't have any issues with camera or fingerprint sensor. My accuracy is in the high 90s with the glass on. In all honesty don't feel any difference between glass and no glass.
