Here is an app everyone should have on you phone in the unfortunate
event that you are unable to express yourself at a hospital or clinic.
Since nowadays we most always have our cell phones with us at
all times, its a good thing to have all your vital non secure information
in a single location.
Doctors nurses and medical staff have heard of ICE and do look for
it on our phones.
Take the time to put as much or as little as you want on the app.

Yep, this thing is on the market for $2.99
Thread closed due to warez.
@OP,
Consider this your first and final warning. No warez is allowed on XDA.
I recently posted a thread on how I can start programming geared towards the mobile platforms.
I would like to develop apps for more than one mobile platform. However I just have access to an Android device (SE Xperia X10), iPhone 4, and an iPad 2.
Smartphones are not like candies, that you can go pickup at a cheap store.
I mean how and where can I and other people who want to develop apps for specific platforms get free phones for testing and using the apps we develop?
The emulator that is included with the SDKs are not always the best way to test.
Any suggestions? All help is appreciated
EDIT: Forgot to mention that recently Windows Phone called over WebOS developers to develop applications on the WP platform, and Windows gave the developers free devices. But there are not many WebOS devs out there..
You can always nag at google for a nexus. Other than that, make your app, use revenue for phones.

Thanks a lot, bumping for more suggestions.
Another way is to show your work off to other devices communities here on xda and maybe ask them them to "donate a device" in return for you developing for their specific device. If 10-20 ppl within a community pitch in atleast $10, that's $100-$200 that can be used towards purchasing a reburbished phone on amazon, or ebay. I've seen some phones go for $50-$80 (given they have had ESN's, etc.) But usually I dnt think you need a phone in service to develop for it, unless the app (or whatever your developing) strictly requires you to have service on it to fully test

Thanks a lot man. Not sure if someone would want a specific app by donating a device. Donating few amount of money by a few people would work. But I'll prefer to get a whole device free from, say a company.
I dont think its worth that much, for community members to put their money in.
Thanks a lot, ZA

Well, I guess it would depend on if your app is in high demand or not, would be the deciding factor in whether people are willing to donate to you.

Why don't you try writing X company and ask them. Its not uncommon for them to do this, but im sure they aren't giving out phones to anybody. Why don't you get some credentials under your belt before asking though. Its like asking a company to buy and sponsor an f1 car for you but you don't even know how to put air in the tires on a go cart.
I voided my warranty.
Why don't you just build an App first for your available phones? Then if someone gets interested they might donate to you.

The good news is that the emulators are actually pretty good. They are not a perfect substitute for on device testing, but I have found very few bugs/behaviors that were different on the emulator than on a device.
If you just are sure to test your layouts on all of your supported screen sizes, you should be ok. There is good, up-to-date information on what devices are out in the wild, provided by google: Platform Versions/Screen Sizes.
Do the best that you can, release your app, and watch for feedback from owner's of devices other than yours.

I wish we could get a link. Who wouldn't want a free development device?
i think most of the posters in this thread just want a free device. and keep adding the adjective "development" in front of it like it's cool or something.
Try some developer contests. Microsoft still has some offering Windows Phone as prizes.
This is a 3-year-old thread
Pushing this up since I'm a student and the prices for high-end devices now are quite high. I would like to develop for the community, but the bottleneck is that I can only stick to my poor abused Nexus 4
There's lots of devices out there, tablets, wearables, but I don't have the budget to buy them and use for testing, especially that new techs come out so often and upgrading to to-date devices is quite costly.
What do you guys think? Any success story here?

Devs: Anyone have the same feeling that Samsung devices are most troublesome (kindof)? Always getting complaints from Samsung users...
I just went the tried and true (yet probably the hardest) way and attempted to contact manufacturers directly. Still trying to work with several. Hopefully things work out.
Hello all!

I'm a fellow Nexus 10 owner. I love my device, but I'm a bit tired of facing applications that are low-resolution and unoptimized for the incredible display we have on the Nexus 10. Even tablet-optimized apps are lacking. Aren't you frustrated? Hence, I thought we could do something about it as a community.
Which is the purpose of this thread!
Here's how it will work. This first post will serve as a compilation of all the petitions made to any and all developers to optimize their applications for tablets, and also the Nexus 10's display. Any subsequent posts in this thread shall be for petition requests and discussion, which I will personally put together and post up to the petition site being used for this purpose (Care2 as of this thread's posting). I will then add a direct link to that petition to this thread, sorted by category. Feel free to make any suggestions or to criticize! I will also start us off with a petition I have already created myself: to the developers of the Bloons TD series of games, Ninja Kiwi.
I'll try to keep things simple! Keep on topic, please, and try your best to sign each and every petition. Its the only way we'll be able to actually push developers to optimize their applications for tablets like ours! So, without further ado, let us begin!

This is likely Google's job, not ours. In any event, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter are three that immediately spring to mind. Not because they are low resolution -- not sure what you mean there -- but because the layouts are so clearly designed for smaller screens. I shouldn't have to opt for Friendcaster, Tabstagram, and Plume.

No, it's the app devs job. The point of this is to show them that there is a need for this to be done by enough of their user base to merit the work hours it will take them to implement it. What they don't know ends up hurting us. It is actually an excellent idea.
A dedicated Facebook app should be a priority. My mate has an iPad and I found myself looking longingly at the sickness of the dedicated app. Something needs to be done to put a stop to this sick perversion!

Its the job of the application developers to get out proper apps. Google has done TONS of work already. Now we need to show these guys that we, the users, actually care about proper tablet applications, and that it is worth the investment.
Thats why I created this thread - if we don't do something about it, no-one will! I'm going to try to get as many signatures as possible, and I'm going to spread this thread across multiple forums if necessary. AndroidTablets.net springs to mind.

You'll excuse me if I seem overly cynical about this. I used to be a BlackBerry user. Well over two years ago, some folks on Crackberry launched a campaign to bombard Reid Hastings, the president of Netflix, with email to get Netflix on the BlackBerry platform (the OS 6 devices like the Torch had then fairly recently come out). If you are familiar with Crackberry, you know that they are a rabid, fanatical horde. Nothing happened. Then came the petitions -- change.org and the like. They are still going on more than two years plus later, and despite the fact that BlackBerry now has quite decent phones and a decent OS in BB10, there is still no Netflix on the platform.
EDIT: Holy! I already have 4 signatures for Facebook on Android Tablets and I haven't even posted it anywhere yet! That shows something.
C'mon guys, I'll post it up in the main thread. Vote for it now!

I think your points make sense, but they aren't a valid reason really to cause Netflix to develop for BB10. The marketshare simply isn't there.
With Android, however, the market has shown that it is a valid platform (and I hate to say that as if it was an option - c'mon. ANDROID IS AWESOME! ); it makes sense for them to update, and it only helps us out. We need to show them that we actually CARE. If they understand that, then they will update for us without question. If they have any business sense, that is.
Same with BB10 (which is, quite frankly, a very nice OS - it even has NFC Beaming support between BB and Android devices). If they had the market AND Crackberry screaming like it was/is, they would get a proper app quite quickly.
This deserved a quick update post: the petitions for Facebook and Instagram are now online. Facebook already has a few votes!

BB's problem is definitely rooted in market share, something that Android in general obviously has no problem with. But the numbers dwindle considerably when you're talking about Android tablet market share, and then on top of that, you've got to consider how many Android tablet users really care that there are some apps that are just scaled up phone versions. Apple cared enough to do something about it -- remember that was one of the criticisms of the first iPad, i.e., that it seemed just like a oversized iPod. Google has not been responsive on this front (nor on others for that matter).
Anyway, I don't want to discourage anyone, so have at it.

Don't worry, you're not discouraging (me, at least).
Android Tablet market share has been steadily on the rise - in fact, it rivals the iPad. According to many statistics, they are slated to pass (if they have not already) Apple devices in tablet market share by the 3rd quarter. I listed 3 (or 4?) links in all of the petitions.
As for Google, they have been doing a great job lately. They added dedicated tablet sections to Google Play, and have been pushing developers to adhere to the guidelines constantly. I say keep up that pressure!

One of these days I plan to actually try to learn some Android development; I'll be sure to make whatever apps I make optimized for the N10 though :good:
Hi everyone,
This is a post to existing ROM developers. A childhood dream of mine has always been to create a technology that makes any type of connected device intelligent in a general way. This is a goal that is now real in version 1.0 and is currently being integrated into an automation app.
You can see a CONCEPT video here (though, because Engadget never talked to me, the entire article is based on assumptions from the author. There is an awesome data privacy/control model in place and the tech doesn't "think" for you lol):
Doesn't look like I'm senior enough to post a link. So Google "Kimera Systems Engagdet" and the video will be the first result
And a recent tech meetup presentation with quick demo here (what tech can do today and how it is expected to evolve in 2014):
In the ideal world this type of AI is integrated deeper into the ROM to enable a real device experience rather than an app experience. And that's the point of this post. At some point we'll open up the framework (a API to a user's "personal cloud" - Because each user owns their own data and can host their cloud anywhere they want, each users API will have its own endpoint url) for anyone who wishes to integrate AI into their ROM, launcher, or app. But today we're too early for a general release and instead looking to partner with an existing developer who can see the long term potential.
If you're a ROM developer and interested in at least learning more, PM me and we can have an initial chat.
PS. Has to be for a Sprint Samsung Note 3 ROM. Why? I have that device and obviously for me to support you on development .... well, it would be ideal for me being able to run your ROM And also, since Note 3 is by far the absolute best device out there, I'm curious how you can innovate the user experience with this technology to something even better few people can imagine.
This sounds really interesting. I would like some more info if possible, unfortunately just that since I don't have an N3 (Sprint S3 instead).
And here's the link for others: http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/13/kimera-systems-wants-your-smartphone-to-think-for-you/
I thought google was working on this and it was named project "Majel", which is a reference to Majel Barrett of Star Trek fame for anybody in the know
Interesting!

In short (okay, maybe not short) we built the technology to focus on
Allowing any connected device to understand the world the same way you do. That means "human-like intelligence' (and I believe we're the first one to have cracked that nut) and the ability for your devices to mimic your personality.
Complete data privacy. I hate the idea that 3rd party companies own and control your data and literally turning you into a product they can sell to advertisers. So we've implemented a "personal cloud" solution. The idea is that instead of all your Android devices connected to Google server farm, or Facebook server farm when starting your FB app, or Apple server farm for iOS etc....I want us to get to a point where all your devices connect to your personal cloud and that you can host your cloud anywhere you want so that you have full control over it. This means no one, including my startup, will ever get into a position to controlling the intelligence or data on the global network. Or in other words, no NSA and no Skynet.
This is the most important part: Devices need to understand "WHY?". Why are you doing this or that? etc. Anyone who can answer the question why exhibits real human intelligence. That is the main point of this AI.
From a practical standpoint, the AI really interconnects these personal clouds in specific ways so that they can "produce" intelligence. The result is an "intelligence briefing" that is sent to the device allowing the device to understand what is going on and why and provide information where the device can find apps, services, content so that device can automatically connect to the app. (no app stores or social networks or commerce platforms, just direct from user to service/product/app provider).
Kind went into the technical details here, but hopefully it answered your question
And thank you for posting the link

The Palm OS was my favorite back in the days but times change and we have to adapt and keep with the times. Palm OS was good for it's time. The funny thing is Android approached Palm first to throw their OS in their phone but Palm told android to F-off. That decision F-ed Palm and now they are no longer making smartphones.

May be I do not know something.
I have tried to look for some warez there - I could not find anything.

Same. Some stupid policies and some stupid myths. Perhaps there used to be some sort of warez there accidentally and everyone is still being anal about it. As you can see mods don't really care about this phone. You can see by posts like "I would never get their devices". So childish

It's not a matter of childish. I have many reason why I would never own one of their devices and that being the fact that the oem is on my jobs banned list.
Also all you have to do is look at any of the so called. Free apps that are paid apps on the Android market.
Make no mistake it was not accidental at all. China is known for things like this.
As for the mods. We have been around long enough to know the story with them so, no none of use would ever touch one of their devices. But that is pointless as it's up to the users to do something with it.

You can look yourself. Just do a compare between the 2 stores. That was part of the reasons why miui roms were banned for the longest time.
You have to remember that MIUI started here on xda before Xiaomi bought them out.
Warez or not, MI Store sucks ass, but banning ROMs is pointless, MIUI forum is trash, I still don't know how it works, and some ROM's has backdoors and for example, they send paid SMS to vietnam, That sh!t costed me 50 bucks!!!

hey, I'm curious about these stories that made you stay away from xiaomi devices. May I ask for more information or maybe links about that? Thank you.

If you look around the internet you will find all the stories you need. They are alos on the military banned list in the US due to ties with the Chinese military.

Thank you, but I suppose if we use non MIUI rom such as cm, then these risk of using xiaomi devices is gone right? also, what do you think of Mokee Rom? As it's also made by chinese people, and you said that china is known for "something", is it might also poses similar risks?

First let me make one thing very clear. I have nothing against Chinese people that make software. You have to understand the Government that runs the country there, to have a small understanding. You see In china they have the right to monitor everything their citizens are doing on the internet. This is part of the reason for the great firewall of china. So spyware, malware and other software that helps in this are normally sponsered by the Military to help in doing just this.
I have never used it myself but as it is an open source based OS it should be good. You can see just what it is doing. The hard part will be the coding translations, as things dont always translate right.
Any non MIUI based rom should be ok. The problem with that is CM is normally buggy and all the roms use the patch rom setup which is never really stable nor is it something I would trust as that is injecting stuff into a rom that I cant VET.
In this day and age one has to be careful with all these new toys that are coming to many markets across the world.
Remember, You get what you pay for. So if something is too good to be true then you have to find the catch.

You are right about the store, i was quite surprised when i found paid apps there. This is correct.
But i'm not sure if this is still the case, i saw them a year ago, now i couldn't find the apps,
maybe they've cleaned the store in meantime.
And a script removing apps isn't hard, just search for "updater-script remove apps".
BUT i've tried such script on Sony Xperia P, not in MIUI, i don't know if deleting Mi Store (com.xiaomi.mipicks) would cause bootloop or not.
I know that Mi Store enabled/disabled is region dependent, you can disable it when switching to another region in Beta rom.
But deleting? I know that when i've deleted Updater apk, or changed its permissions, it caused bootloop. Needs to be confirmed.
But with government spying - if you want to be honest - maybe we should ban all ROMs tied with Google, which means all Androids?
Remember about PRISM and Edward Snowden?
American's NSA (National Security Agency) ?
I have nothing to American people, just sayin.
But according to former CIA employee, Edward Snowden, Google joined to the NSA spying program in 14 Jan 2009.
I think that you simply have a choice - either give your personal data to American or to Chinese people. (or both).
You can minimize the risk by disabling for ex. Analytics app... etc.
But saying that chinese are spying... USA govt does the same
And better not looking for Echelon project...
But - the main topic here - yes, it's a good idea to remove Mi Store from roms.
One can always add it himself/herself, there are also other stores, F-droid, Aptoid, there is a choice
American companies aren't communist nor are they guilty of some of the most sever human rights violations in the world.
