Advice for reviving a Z2 with the best current + stable ROM - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear XDA friends  I know this question has been asked before, but my current smartphone just died today and I'm in a hurry to revive my good old Xperia Z2.
Before I start I want to install a more current ROM than the last stock ROM (Android 6.0). What would you advice?
It should be stable, as few "not working" items als possible and current - in this order. (I unplugged the NFC chip anyway, camera and camera quality are higher priorities.)
Oero would be nice, but Nougat should do the job as well if there are more stable ROMs for it.
I want to install the ROM and then work with it as it is (no other mods and so on).
I would prefer one of the more known ROMs like Lineage or Resurrection Remix.
Forgive my "Let me google it for you" question, but you would really help me. Thanks in advance!

Ok, I'm pulling back my question after spending 6 hours to boot into recovery without success I've unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp but I can't boot into recovery neither from adb nor from key combinations. I can't root either. From what I've understand so far I have to go back to an older android version, then root, then do some other nasty stuff. I guess I'm out

[Q] Casio G'zone Commando Custom ROM

Hello. Maybe some of you have heard of a certain phone known as the Casio G'zone Commando. It is rugged phone from Verizon, and I think it is time that someone develops a custom rom. Even with all of the bloat uninstalled, it still freezes up every once and awhile. This phone isn't very popular, so not many people have tried a get a custom rom on it. Through my research, this is what I found out: The Commando doesn't have a way to get into a recovery menu (there is no key combanation) However, I know that Getitnowmarketing has posted a working recovery on androidforums.com, but you still need to hook it up to a computer to use it. So what does this have to do with custom roms? Also, what is a bootloader, and how would I unlock it on the Commando?? I really need some help. If no one will volunteer, I may just try to pull this off, but first, I am gonna need some education on custom roms and technical android stuff. Thank you!
I have been fooling around with the commando as well, and have found that if you have it connected to your laptop and while booting up you press the power+camera+vol down buttons it will pull up a hard reset screen. During this time I also had Odin3 v1.70 and it shows under the ID:COM - 0:[COM51] highlighted in yellow. Could we at this point download custom firmware, or possibly root?
Any help would be appreciated!

That's very interesting! I think this means that there is a way to recover your phone if something goes wrong!
Unfortunately, I still don't know if this is enough. Somehow we need to get an expert to help answer our questions...
Hopefully one of our devs will be a real sweetheart and get ICS rolling on this device.
There are there no known ICS ROMs for this device???
No, there is not an ICS or JB rom for this device. I don't know if it would be able to run stock JB and ICS well considering it is 800 mhz (I've heard somewhere the recommended ICS speed is 1 ghz), but overclocking is always an option (I think overclocking is easier on custom roms). Also, JB or ICS may run better on it with some customization.
But either way, a custom rom, whether it be based on Android 4.x or 2.x would be great! I would learn how to do things like unlocking the bootloader and making custom roms, but time is an issue for me. I just wish there was a dev out there willing to do this. I would even consider donating!

Is the commando a 4g one or the first commando? I'm asking because I have the c771 but it only has 2.3.3 gingerbread
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium
Yeah I actually realized his is the 4g one neither version seems to have very much support of any kind I wonder if it would be possible to take the ics rom off the new one and make it work on the old one but that is far beyond my scope most I can get is a file dump from the 4g the rest would have to be left to much more capable hands lol all I can even find on the 4g version is rooting it

I've found a few methods to root it. You just need adb and google lol
My dad has the original commando, and his upgrade is in April. It's a ways off, but I may be able to make a port of CM for it from my OG droid CM7 rom since they are similar. I'm not sure yet, since I've never tried making a CM port before, but I'll give it a shot after I get my new phone and customize it around the same time. Who knows, maybe I'll be able to release a stable port for it.

Stuck in "Super Loop"

I just changed roms from Ice Cream Zenwich rc1.8.5 to MIUI 2.3.30. I was trying to get a custom version of MIUI (without the Chinese language) just for my personal well being. I ****ed up bad by not wiping data and clearing the other stuff. I attempted to flash right away and in the process of installing my batter fell out. (I have no back)
My phone turned off and it is stuck in some sort of install booting loop. I cant get into download mode or recovery mode. Odin will not read my device because of this and i cant really do anything.
I am lost at this point. Usually I can get the help i need on XDA but i just haven't found anything. If there is any way to get my phone out of this state please help me.

Hey! I believe I know of the "instal booting loop" which you are referring to. (I know this might seem like a rather silly question, however it's worth asking I believe) Have you by any chance tried removing your battery, and then holding the volume down + the power button, and then when the screen comes on, letting go of the power button while still holding the volume down button? The loop that you're referring to grants a SHORT window to enter recovery...I know because I've had this happen and it's not long before the phone auto reboots without entering recovery. The trick is to have the volume down button held down even before touching the power button so that the second you press down the power, your hitting the correct combo.
Aside from this, however....you really shouldn't flash down from ICS to GB without first returning to stock via Odin. That's bad juju my friend.
But hey, if this doesn't work, come back and let us know and we can troubleshoot. I know that my answer sounds obvious, but if what you're referring to is what I believe you are referring to...it's easy to think that you can't get into recovery, when in actuality, you can as long as you're approaching it a specific way.
I love you!

[Q] unable to enter download mode

My phone is an S3 i9300. Some weeks ago I installed an XXUGMK6 Android 4.3 version. At that time I was directed to an East European site (Russian?) which had one of the first releases. Everything have worked ok until I decided to try another ROM (Slimrom). I enabled USB debugging and tried to restart the phone in download mode (Power+Home+volume down buttons) to start the rooting process. I arrive at a screen saying:
Warning!!
A custom OS can cause critical problems in phone and installed applications.
If you want to download a custom OS, press the volume up key.
Otherwise, press the volume down key to cancel.
If I press the volume up key it apparantly starts downloading (text on screen: Downloading. Don't switch off your Phone). Nothing more happens even after almost 3 hours, and I have to force restart the phone.
I have tried to factory reset the phone, but it is still impossible to past the Warning!! screen.
Any suggestions on how to solve the problem are much appreciated.

Sorry litttle confused by your post
First thing first you do not need to root your phone to install a custom rom they come already rooted...Second thing you do not install custom roms in download mode you flash them via a custom recovery such as PhilZ recovery,Twrp or Cwm recovery.
Are you saying you are stuck in download mode? If so did you pull the battery?
Op is missing most of the basic knowledge from sticky thread in general forum, suggest he go read all the posts before doing anything else.

Thank you for such a prompt replay. Sorry for the double posting. You probably already guessed that I am a little confused, too.
Well, my chain of thoughts was that since I didn't have a custom recovery installed, I had to boot in download mode to install it with Odin. Then I planned to boot to recovery to flash the SlimKat ROM.
I am now embarrassed to realize that when I arrived at the "Downloading... Don't switch off your Phone" screen, and didn't know how to proceed, the phone was, in fact, in download mode. I didn't notice the very small, red letters in the upper left corner saying "Odin mode". Things are a lot clearer to me now, and I have successfully flashed the ROM. I hope you are a little bit less confused, too.
Could I spend just a little more of your time? The reason for using the SlimKat ROM was to speed up the rather laggy Galaxy i9300. Do you have an idea which ROM would serve that purpose best?

Glad you sorted it .Like @boomboomer said try to do a little bit more research before attempting any sort of software change on your phone one little mistake can turn into a big problem.
Unfortunately I can't give any advice on which rom is fastest/best because that kind of post is not allowed on Xda and they will close the thread..Only thing I can suggest is read the user reports in the different rom threads and basically try them out because each user as a different opinion on each rom..Good luck.

[Q] Few questions from a new Android user

Hi everyone I recently bought a Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet
Model number: SGP512
Build number: 17.1.A.2.36 (at this time I think I will upgrade to 23.0.1.A.4.30)
But as it is my first Android device I don't know how to root, so I have a few questions, hope you guys can help me
1. Can I perform root on my Tablet?, if the answer is Yes, how can i do it?
2. Is there a way to enter like a thethered mode on Android like in iOS, I mean when you press 10 sec. home + sleep button, then 15 sec only home button you enter that mode so you can restore from factory settings the device (that was an example on ios devices), but here on this tablet I heard something about the power button and up on the volume something like that
3. If I do incorrectly the root can i restore my Tablet without losing anything or leaving it usless?
4. Should I update to the newest version available?
Thank you, I would very glad if you could help me

Flash SuperSU to gain Root. Required is an unlocked bootloader and a recovery, though.
You can also flash custom ROMs via the recovery if your bootloader is unlocked

If you unlock your bootloader, you lose Sony's DRM keys. Basically, if you unlock your bootloader and install a recocvery, you have to know what you do. As a beginner, follow all instructions to the point. There are people who have difficulties following instructions, these tend to brick their devices. If you are one of them, stay on the stock ROM!

Read the forums here
I'm using the Android 4.4.4 PAC ROM from the original Android Development forum, so I don't follow the changes Sony does.
Note: If you start messing around with your device, nothing is idiot-proof anymore. You can completely mess up your device if you act stupid.
As a general rule of thumb, before attempting to play around with your device, you should know what a bootolader is, the difference between a Kernel and an OS etc. If you don't know this, learn this before messing around with your device. Otherwise catastrophies can be expected (AKA "learning the hard way").
Everything is explained here in these forums in detail. Use the search button. Read the treads. Have fun.

Moto E 2nd Generation LTE bootloop issue

Hi gang!
I have a Moto E 2nd Generation here that was having some issues, browser crashing, slow downs, overheating issues due to multiple apps running, etc. So I decided to log into TWRP and attempt to do a factory reset. After this factory reset was done now I attempt to log into fastboot, which gives me the options of start, restart, factory, etc. I am just receiving a boot loop and nothing more. The steps to get this corrected is a bit jumbled and confusing, I must admit. I have installed ADB on my computer in hopes that this will be straightforward. I have downloaded some system images which I thought would help the process, negative. So if someone could help me this would be greatly appreciated.

Heyo John!
I can try to help since I have managed to overcome my bootloop issue and flash a custom ROM into my phone. Could I ask, are you trying to also install a custom ROM? And what version of TWRP do you have?
I had the bootloop issue because of an outdated TWRP and had to flash the latest one, which thankfully worked!
Let me know! ^_^

Hello testerexp345,
Thank you for the reply and the assistance, I am not sure if TWRP is installed anymore as I can't get passed the bootscreen on the phone. I hold down the volume down and power button to get the options of factory reset, shut down, restart, etc. However all these options lead back to the boot screen looping over. The ROM that I had installed on the phone was from an online seller that paired the phone with a SIM card that allowed unlimited data service, which was great for my business since I am out much of the week traveling. Any insight would help, as when it comes to flashing devices and cell phones... let's just say I am a newbie still

To boot in bootloader while you stuck on bootlogo
Press and hold power button and volume button , and when screen goes off, quickly release power button only . don't release volume down button . now you will boot in bootloader

Hello hamxa266, okay I was able to get into the bootloader. All the options I choose restart the phone and put it back it back into a bootloop. I am not very familiar when it comes to using ADB.
