IS it possible to swithc to another firmware (from Cxxx to Cyyy) - Huawei P20 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi All, I have this version of firmware: ANE-LX18.0.0.145(C461)
I would like to understood if possible to swithc on ANE-LX18.0.0.166(C432) ?
In general is it possible to swith from Cxxx to Cyyy?
Regards

Yes, if you have the bootloader unlocked.
You also need to find and flash the oeminfo for the customization that you want to switch to, if you want to receive OTAs.

OK, thanks I would like avoid to unlock the bootloader.
But if it's only way can you provide me a guide a guide?
Regards

i switched c432 to c10 without any problem with orijinal zip file dload extract to type c flash drive.
no bootloader unlock.
but zip file should be orijinal to use dload method.
otherwise phone will say nothing to update.
you have to turn of and press volume up down and power on and first release power when phone logo appears then release other buttons.
there are a Russian site that you can find orijinal zips.

Rooting without unlocking bootloader?

Hey,
I was wondering if it's possible to root the mate 10 pro without unlocking the bootloader.
Since huawei is not giving the bootloader codes anymore, and i have the latest updates so dc unlocker isn't an option either.

FOR OTHERS SEEING THIS, IT WILL NOT WORK ON B146 OR GREATER (02 XLOADER). (B148-SP1 being the exception as it has 01 XLOADER)
FOR OTHER CUST THAN C432 CHECK THIS THREAD ON HOW TO CHECK YOUR XLOADER: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/beware-bla-l29c432b147-t3817241
Great. You can downgrade to B142 and get unlock code through DC/HCU.
You will need a USB-C to USB-A female OTG cable, or USB-C to Hub and a memory stick (8GB minimum)/sdcard adapter + sdcard (8GB minimum).
Backup your phone with Backup app and internal SD (If you want to of course) as it says the dload will format /data (I'm not sure if it actually does it as I had to format manually from stock recovery, but when I tested I went from B148-SP1 to B142 so the big gap might have caused /data to not want to load correctly).
Download this dload package (BLA-L29C432B142): https://mega.nz/#!vXZRnAbI!pYBwcPATQKyxB-Et74StI-3H7tsytbo2xheIQdTCGKU
Extract zip and go in to the 'Software' folder, copy 'dload' folder to the root of your memory stick/sdcard. (do not extract the update_sd.zip in the dload folder, it's supposed to be zipped)
Plug in memory stick/sdcard in your OTG-cable/Hub and USB-C in your phone and go to dialer app and enter: *#*#2846579#*#*, tap on "4. Software Upgrade", then on "1. SDCard upgrade". Tap on "OK" then install anyway when/if it says "PT Failed".
You can also force dload update by holding power + volume up + volume down with USB OTG/Hub plugged in.
Phone will reboot and start verifying package, this takes a while. Then it will start installing.
If it starts bootlooping after the white Huawei logo, go to stock recovery (Power + volume up) and Factory reset. Booting the first time after downgrade will take a little bit so only factory reset if it takes 5+ mins.
When you are booted use DC/HCU to get unlock code. I had to install drivers from their support section to get it working, else it wouldn't recognize phone.
Alternatively you could probably use Funky Huawei to downgrade to B142, but it's expensive.

Yes, but you will need to find dload firmware for C185.
You should be able to use "BLA-L29C 8.0.0.135(C185)" (Search with that exact text on androidhost.ru), it's from April.
I don't trust the B133, too many versions use B133, but I did download B135 just now and have checked that it is April patch.
For BLA the USB-C to USB A female OTG cable/USB-C hub is required as we don't have any external sd. Placing it on /sdcard/ does nothing

Small question: if you succeed to downgrade from b145 to b142, what do you do after ? Is OTA still working for example ?

OTA will be offered directly, it wanted me to update to B145 again (Which is the latest approved fw for me).
But get unlock code off of DC/HCU before updating, otherwise you'd have to downgrade again

You can't get bootloader unlock code from DC/HCU on B145+, downgrade to B142 and you can.
I did write it in my original post and in the reply to you.

Thank you. Now it's more clear. So if you already have your code before having update to b145, it's not usefull.

Exactly. Well, it would be useful if you never saved your code or rebranded using FH Rebrand tool as well, as that changes your unlock code.
However. If you are on, for example, C432B146 you won't be able to downgrade at all.
Im on .142 now and got my unlock code from dcu. Can i install ota updates without problems with unlocked bootloader? And is there anyway to flashing stock rom without relocking bootloader? One last question if i can update to 145+ after unlocking can i root it too?

You will get updates yes, but to install them normally you need to flash back stock recovery if you have TWRP.
Normally bootloader is not locked after flashing stock firmware, if that's what you mean? Yes, you can root fine on B146ä5+

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!
I have just got my bootloader code for my Mate 10 Pro that came with 145 after downgrading to 142 using your instructions and software

how do i successfully unlock the bootloader without it unlocking again

i am getting a brand new huawei mate 10 pro returning my current brand new one as it got updated to the latest emui which prevents bootloader unlocking, how do i succesfully unlock the bootloader on the next mate 10 pro?
1.how do i prevent it from updating and ruining my chances of unlocking the bootloader Before i have a chance to unlock it, will it force update?
2.how do i keep the bootloader locked will i have to flash some other rom on it to prevent it from updating ota or can i update it ota and keep the bootloader unlocked with twrp or will it be permanently locked if i attempt to ota update after twrp is installed and after the bootloader is unlocked
3.i read that it can restore the default recovery on first boot can anyone explain this to me
since the latest emui prevents the bootloader from being unlocked i only have one chance, and if it somehow updates to the latest emui then it's locked forever, so how do i unlock the bootloader permanently without worrying about it unlocking ever again, i thought that once the bootloader is unlocked and twrp is installed then it will stay like that, but then i read that it can get overitten just with an ota update and once it updates then i can never unlock it again.

1. Set up device, but don't plug in SIM or enable WiFi. Go to settings and check patch level.
Depending on Cust of course, but generally July or later can't be downgraded (If downgrade is needed). This is due to updated bootloader.
If May/June or earlier you should be able to use HCU-client directly to get unlock code.
For example, BLA-L29C432B145 (June) can be downgraded to B142 (May) where HCU works. This is using dload firmware from androidhost.ru (requires an OTG-cable and USB-stick 8gb min or a OTG usb hub and USB-stick 8gb min).
B146+ can't be downgraded to old bootloader due to updated bootloader.
2. When you have the unlock code you can use it, always, no matter what firmware (At least as it is now, this might change in the future)
Firmware don't normally lock bootloader.
3. To restore stock recovery you would either:
Extract it from your firmwares update.app, acquired from firmware finder. This is extracted using Huawei Update Extractor.
Stock recovery is named recovery_ramdisk and can be flashed through fastboot.
OR
You can 'dd' erecovery_ramdisk to recovery_ramdisk (both partitions are the same, different 'entry' points). This is using terminal in TWRP
dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/erecovery_ramdisk of=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/recovery_ramdisk
I would suggest using the update.app approach if you're not comfortable using terminal. 'dd' is a potentially dangerous command.
But your device should ship with an already HCU compatible firmware, so you should be able to get code right away, as long as you don't connect to the internet first.

can i set it up without a Connection? from what i remember setting it up the first time it forced me to connect to the internet, as for unlocking that seems really complicated, from what i saw i can use dc unlocker with the click of a few buttons so i don't quite understand these methods, so you mean this is better than dc unlocker, does that mean once i get the code i can update emui and relock the bootloader and then unlock it? no need for any software or anything once i have the code then it's like an official code so i never have to worry about not being able to unlock the bootloader again can i then unlock the bootloader no matter how new emui if i want, and what firmware will it have if it comes brand new should it have the firmware it shipped with on release?
let's say the phone comes with Before may security patch can i then easily just get the code without much complication and then it's the same code as if i were to get it directly from huawei meaning i don't have to worry about updating emui and having the bootloader locked permanently? this is all news to me as i thought you needed to use dc unlocker as a workaround and that this only works on older emui meaning if i unlock the bootloader update emui then it's locked forever.

Hcu-Client is made by DC-Unlocker, but it works for newer phones. Its the same procedure as using DC-Unlocker, and uses the same credits. Just follow the instructions found in the program.
The downgrade would only be needed it your firmware is higher than the supported ones, and still on old bootloader.
I can't say for sure the unlock code will work for all eternity, but at least for now it will work after you update (and if phone for some reason locks after update).
If it works or not on future firmware is up to Huawei. My phone stayed unlocked when flashing Pie beta anyway....
When you have the code you it will be like the official one, so keep it somewhere safe.
I'm pretty sure you can skip through the whole set up without connecting to the Internet.
I can't remember what firmware my phone came with, it might have been on C432B127 or C432B129...
DC unlocker/HCU is only to get the unlock code as Huawei closed their site to get it. You can safely update after getting it.

oh so no need for a Cable or anything after i received the code, once i received it on the appropriate firmware then i can update emui, this means anything i do doesn't do anything to the phone itself, i don't need to do any modification on my phone i just use it to get the code then i update emui like normal and then when i feel like it i unlock the bootloader with the code, so i can get the code and just forget about it afterwards unless huweai invalidates it in the future?
simply put
1.i unbox the phone and set it up with no sim card or internet skip all logins
2.i connect it to a pc and get the code through hcu however that is done
3. i reset the phone and set it up like i normally would with internet and a simcard and then update it ota
then when i feel like it i can unlock the bootloader on the newest firmware and then install a custom rom

It means it's not supported since May/June. I guess they just write that so they don't have to investigate into which firmware exactly.
It works on May patch firmware and earlier. Some cust even works on June.
Since your signature is Italian I guess you have C432?
If so, last build it worked on was B142. If you're on B145 you can downgrade to B142. If you're on B146 or later you can't get unlock code. (at least for now)

If DC-Unlocker doesn't work, use HCU-client. I can't remember if Mate 10 Pro is too new for DC-unlocker.
It's the same credits anyway, and it won't use credits if phone is not supported in DC-unlocker (You won't get the Bootloader code option anyway).
It may ask you to factory reset in HCU to get code, if it does just comply.
You will need 4 credits, which equals $4
i spoke to the developers of dc unlocker i was told they have no idea if the code will work after emui is updated, they suggest i unlock the bootloader as soon as i receive the code.

It should work in updated EMUI, atleast in Oreo.
What Huawei did, what I found out anyway, that made unlock code generation not working anymore is changing the key needed to generate it.
It's the same with the backdoor they use, it needs a new key to work. So technically all old unlock codes should work as the end result when generating an unlock code would be the same regardless of what key is needed to generate it. I guess anyway.

B145?
If so you have to downgrade to B142, firmware is available on androidhost.ru.
You will also need an otg cable and a memory stick/usb adapter and minimum 8gb memory. (Samsungs USB-C to USB-A works fine for this if you happen to have one)
Or a USB hub.
Then extract your downloaded firmware zip, just cut and paste "sd_update" folder to external memory stick and start phone in dload mode.
There are instructions that come with the firmware on how you flash it (dload mode, folder structure etc.)
External memory is needed as Mate 10 Pro can't read internal while in recovery.

Yes, just downgrade, get the unlock code and then unlock. It doesn't matter that you tried to get the code while on B145.
would you mind giving the most stupid easy to understand guide just to make it simpler for me so you mean it is certain i can do this.

Huawei Mate 10 Pro Downgrade from 8.0.0.156 to 8.0.0.149 or lower

Can Anybody help me ?
I have a rooted and unlocked Mate 10 Pro.
But with the new Update , i can't downgrade Play Service.... I need this for a Game.
Now i need to downgrade to a lower version.
Thanks for help.
P.s.: I search in the Forum , but the most is search for downgrade from EMUI 8 to 7 or 9 to 8.
The lowest version you can downgrade to is B146 (Assuming you are on BLA-L29C432B156), using firmware from androidhost.ru.
OR flash images manually through TWRP, this way you could downgrade to first build if you wanted to xD
Just don't flash XLOADER.img as you are on new xloader. Flashing one from B145 or earlier will brick your phone.

For flash with TWRP you must need "BOOTLOADER UNLOCKED" and you know very wel that's service is Down from time.
So you guide NOT help for nothing.

If i flash the B143 C432 w/o Xloader partition, phone will not boot or boot having same B156 version?
My customer mistaked this device flashing Ram Disk, (Loader) + OEMINFO by TESTPOINT and have lost IMEI. So, i was searching a way for Downgrade and do Imei Repair, but there writed in all side that's impossible Downgrade from B156 or earlier...you have solution?

Easiest way, in my opinion, would be to just flash board firmware. Since he already has testpoint available?
Then you can repair imeis and that while on board using HCU. You can not get back original oeminfo though unless he has a backup of it.
But imeis that phone uses will be repaired, and you can still unlock using HCU's get unlock code button. Original code, if he got it through Huawei, will not be usable though.
Here's a guide for using HCU and steps to take, any deviation from these steps will result in no imei or no network.
1)Flash oeminfo (own backup) from fastboot
2)Backup modemnvm_system, modemnvm_factory and modemnvm_backup using adb pull from a command prompt (/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modemnvm_system and so on)
3)Flash backed up modemnvm_system, modemnvm_factory and modemnvm_backup from fastboot
3)Modify and brand with HCU (check everything but those that erase/flash empty board) (remember to fill vendor and cust)
4)Unlock sim with HCU
5)Read Bootloader code if you ever used HCU to get code before
6)Download and flash service firmware from androidhost.ru using a OTG cable and a memory stick
For step 1 you should be able to just backup and flash the existing oeminfo in phone as it's already using someone elses (DC's oeminfo flash will just download an oeminfo from their server and flash it, so you get someone elses oeminfo).

Huawei Relock Bootloader

I have ALP-L29 (c185) Running emui 9.1.0.32 and unlocked bootloder. Is there any way to relock bootloader. I have tried DC unlocker (says chipset is not competible), Multi-tool, and fastboot command but none of them worked. Also tried to restore an factory reset with Erecovery but still unlocked. I am planning to sell my phone but probably buyer won't want root or unlocked bootloder

Update using a dload firmware. It will lock it.
However, there seem to be no free one for ALP C185 9.1 :/

Service firmware. And yes, it's special. Firmware from Huaweis own server (hicloud) is Online only, and can't be used to lock bl.
Service firmware is Offline, so you can flash it using an OTG cable and a memory stick.
Or, since you're rooted, you can place it directly in /data/update/dload/ and skip the OTG cable part.
You'd then reboot and hold VOL UP + VOL DOWN (OTG plugged in to phone if not /data/update/dload is used) and phone will start in force update mode and start update.

Yes, as long as you don't modify oeminfo too much. But update will not change unlock code.
Oh yeah, I noticed the dload came without instructions. If you use otg and memory card you just copy the 'dload' folder (after extracting from zip) and paste on a memory stick. Then plug in otg cable in phone and reboot while holding vol up + down. If you use /data/update/ you'd have to transfer files using adb push to /sdcard/ and from a command prompt:
adb push update_sd.zip /sdcard/
adb push update_sd_ALP-L29_hw_meafnaf.zip /sdcard/
adb shell
su
mkdir -p /data/update/dload/ALP-L29_hw_meafnaf/
mv /sdcard/update_sd.zip /data/update/dload/
mv /sdcard/update_sd_ALP-L29_hw_meafnaf.zip /data/update/dload/ALP-L29_hw_meafnaf/
meafnaf zip might be named differently, I turned off computer so can't check.
After this, still in adb shell:
echo --factory_sd_update > /cache/recovery/command
reboot
Phone will reboot to update mode and flash firmware.
After this you should be locked
Thanks again

Erecovery will not lock bootloader.
Generally you'd want a service firmware for the current build you're on, but that's now always possible. Any 9.1 C636 should work though.

Is it possible to switch ANE-LX2 from C636 to C432?

I have an ANE-LX2 build number C636E4R1P5 (I live in Europe), latest security patch installed is from July 2020 and the OTA updater can't find any new update. It seems like on European firmware C432 the updates are released regularly. Is it possible to switch to this region and keep receiving updates?
I've read may threads but don't know where to start. Thanks in advance

You have to unlock the bootloader first , for free or using paid service ,
info .
If you choose paid service , you have to download to EMUI 8 via HiSuite. If the rollback option is not available with your HiSuite ("switch to the older version" or "Earlier version"), you must downgrade to the lower EMUI 9.1 build number doing the dload method flashing Service ROM.
I can't give you a link because of forum rules, but you can google it, search for 'ANE-LX2 9.1.0.209(C636E4R1P5T8) FULL STOCK' (password: ministryofsolutions.com ).
Note: This process will erase your phone!
Then try again downgrade with HiSuite.
After successfully downgrading to Oreo you need downgrade to 8.0.140 , download here .
Running 8.0.140 you should be able to use HCU-Clent etc., get code and unlock your bootloader.
Only then will the difficult part of debranding come .
The question is whether it is worth doing...

Thank you, HiSuite allows me to downgrade to 8.0.0.192.
After downgrading to 8.0.0.140 as well and unlocking the bootloader, is the debranding part particularly difficult?

Sorry about the confusion, I thought there was a specific C432 for ANE-LX2... I'm still new to this.

Ok here's what I've done so far:
downgraded to 8.0.0.192 from HiSuite
downgraded to 8.0.0.140 following this
unlocked bootloader using HCU client (attached photo of phone in fastboot mode).
So now all I need to do is follow these steps?
Just double-checking before I do any damage to the phone

Yes, or these steps: Chapter 2.
"Chapter 2." is maybe simpler...
(I recommend reading the whole post!).
First flash oeminfo in TWRP, then continue with Chapter 2. !
These steps seem quite clear:
- In fastboot install TWRP, run
fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk TWRP-oreo-smart.img
fastboot reboot .
- Boot into TWRP and flash it over eRecovery :
-- select storage - SD Card, select "Install image", find TWRP file and mark eRecovery, swipe. Go back, find RECOVERY_RAMDISK-ANE-OREO file , mark Recovery, swipe. Reboot system, when yellow warning appears press and hold Volume Up.
- In TWRP select Install image and flash oeminfo.img file (mark oeminfo, swipe). Go back to main TWRP's menu, select Reboot > Power Off.
- Flash Service ROM using three buttons combo.
THE PROCESS WILL LOCK THE BOOTLOADER AGAIN!
Only thing is, what do you mean by "Flash Service ROM using three buttons combo."?
----
Edit: I guess it's standard dload method?
Also, should I add the ".img" at the end of the oeminfo file?
