Can anyone talk me through the easiest way to root my Mediapad M5 AL-09? Thanks in advance...
My ultimate goal is to remove some bloatware...especially an extremely popular video apk so I can use an ad free version.
"Search" is your friend.
Yeah, tried that before I posted. Perhaps a truer friend might point me in the right direction...

I actually did. It seemed a little involved for my skill level. I was hoping someone came up with something easier like a one click app. Guess I better roll up my sleeves and start trying to learn this stuff. Anyway, thank you for replying.

It really isn't all that difficult. Read, go slowly and if you have questions post them on that thread and people will help. I have the SHT-W09 8 inch USA wifi and have posted the required patched image for 173 and 190. Perhaps someone will have the correct patched image for the firmware version you are running. If you have not unlocked the bootloader and cannot easily do that with your current firmware that will make it more difficult, but again there is a thread for that and people are willing to help.
Good luck.

I have a question to you! Why did you root if you didn't know what you wanted to do afterwards? Rooting is not just so you can feel the "cool factor", and the vast majority of us know before we root why we want to do it, otherwise...................WHY do it???
Why did you bother? Your own answer should close this thread, and everything else you mentioned can be found by reading the forums!
No offense, but you shouldn't be rooting/flashing "roms" if you don't know what your doing.
It's very easy to end up with an unusable device.

Thx. I know that. I managed to get everything working i wanted ;-) and everyone has to start at one ponit, right. That's why I would not do it if I don't want to. I want to learn more about it so can you tell me a good thread or webside to start with?
Can anyone tell means about that rom pls.
I find your responses a bit harsh guys.. Are there laws / regulations on who can / should root, profile boxes that have to be ticked before one can decide to have a go at unleashing the full power of their phone?
Nobody was born with the knowledge, we all started from scratch at some stage. There are enough warnings that explain how to apply the root methods that are offered in the threads.

Ouch.......poor guy is new and gets slammed instantly for wondering what all he can do with his phone. I think we were all in the same boat not too long ago.
Yea, he may be a noob and not know the politics of posting before reading, but I bet each one of us did at one time too. What we should be doing is just politely pointing him in the right direction on how to learn more about all things root.
Such as http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=972423 being a good place to start.
Understand though, if you screw up your phone, there is no one to blame but yourself. Read how to recover from a soft brick and hard brick before jumping in. Read all posts VERY carefully and all the way through. That's how I learned, and many others before me. And first and foremost, before asking questions about anything, do a quick search of the treads to see if it has already been asked and answered before. If you don't find your question, feel free to ask and ignore those that troll the treads.
Good luck my man.

I am running Gingerblur which is very similar. I think it is a great ROM and one of the few so far for the Atrix. If you like some of the Blur stuff such as the gallery and social networking items, you have to understand that you will be losing them with the new ROM and going with the stock Android gallery. However, if you do a backup of your current ROM before flashing, you can always revert back if you don't like it.
Big thing, screen shots help for me. And the ROM developers do a great job at giving the details of their ROMs in their posts or websites.

I agree, we all have to learn, but the vast majority of us started by reading through threads which have all the info about how to flash sbf's, root, sideload, flash themes, what is and is not possible, etc. We then tried things by following the instructions.
I'm not, and was not, trying to be a ****. I am however very blunt! Everything the OP needs is already there if he/she looks. The forums are full of "repeat" threads because people are basically too lazy to read and research for themselves before asking what has already been asked numerous times.

( question for a question ) What do you wish to do with the Nook that it is not doing yet ? There is the ( wise ) old adage, if its not broke, don't fix it !
.
Here's something you can do. Go to the front door of the Nook forum,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1394
When search is back up. I went there right now and it says :
"Search is temporarily unavailable. We apologize for the inconvenience."
.
Search on the term "1.43" and see what people are saying about it. Search has a cool trick where it'll show you the link to the forum post. Very nice...

Kind of what I was going for. Alway's heard old_fart was a tough nut to crack. So thought I would give it a go. All in fun. Some people say stay with it and some people say upgrade. Just get's a bit confusing as to what you gain or lose.
But I will definitely try that Google search engine thingy I've been reading so much about.

Hi folks.
I came on this forum a while back to get my Bell Galaxy Note 717 returned to its former operating condition after Samsung buggered it up by putting ICS on it. I received a load of help and encouragement from some GREAT folks (who are a heck of a lot cleverer than me) and got my lovely phone back to where it was. Now, in those immortal words, "I'm back!"
At the end of the previous discussion, a couple suggested that — now I'd lost my phone-flashing virginity — I might want to try some custom ROMs and stuff like that. Whilst I very much appreciate their enthusiasm, I'm afraid that I really am just one small degree ahead of absolute noob and therefore I don't want to delve too deep into this stuff. However! I am quite interested in rooting the phone so that I can install and use Titanium Backup. So this is what I'm hunting for, please and thank you:
A copy of the ClockworkMod thing so that I can do the root.
The actual root file itself so I can install it with Odin (I believe it's called 'superuser' or something).
Any help you good folks would be willing to offer.
Just a small point, if I may; I DEFINITELY DO NOT WANT ICS or another newer Android version. I'm very happy with Gingerbread and I'm staying with it. Stat. I respectfully request that you don't try to convince me otherwise, unless you want me to believe that you're a twit. You will doubtless, in return, call me a Luddite and I will not disagree. Card-carrying, fee-paying, life-membership Luddite!!
Anyway, there we go, that's it for now. I'm looking forward to all the flashing and rooting and stuff! Yeah! Thanks in anticipation of your kind replies.
Cheers,
Sandy B.

Hey everyone, I am stuck. Finally got around to playing, and ran the Brightstar RUU to change phone into Dev edition. Everything went perfect thanks to all these great threads here, but now I don't have ANY recovery installed. I didn't notice if it was gone after S-Off'ing, or after the RUU, but now nothing. Has anyone heard of this, and can I put a recovery back on? I DL'd a stock, but I really would like CWM. If anyone can point me in the right direction, much thanks.

Sorry I didn't see your question in time, just so you know (or i guess you figured out), no-one really monitors the at&t forums. In it's best times their were only about 25 of us in here. In the future take your questions and concerns to the international One forums and you'll have much better luck. At one time their was talk of combining the two forums because all the GSM phones are basically identical.

Oh no, it really is ALL good, I learned so much from it, and it came from both the forums. That's what this site is all about, at least for me it is. I am dang proud of being able to take all the knowledge and posts and ACTUALLY make it work for myself without giving up. The people on this site are just awesome! Just one problem, and thanks to the posts, I learned 5 new tricks!
Sooo, Ill start off by saying that I've unlocked, hacked, rooted, jailbroke pretty much every phone since it became available over the years. Im a careless tinkerer and have always stumbled across well written how to's to do everything I've need in forums like this and have great luck.
Well awhile ago, shortly after I got my AT&T M8, I decided to try and turn it into Google Play Edition. Somewhere along the way while in the process of doing S-OFF, something went wrong. I kept getting errors and couldn't get anything to flash. So I gave up and got the LG G3 and put the M8 aside for a bit. Well now I want to use it again, and along the way of "tinkering", I've managed to wipe TWRP, relocked the bootloader, have no OS and still S-OFF. I can boot into recovery or boot to the HTC screen so its not completely gone yet from what Ive researched.
Would anyone be willing to help me out in getting this thing back to stock Sense or point me in the right direction? I want it completely stock, without root or custom recovery. I'd rather a good step by step, if someone would be willing. I can't seem to piece together all of the information i need to do this myself. Thanks!
Have you tried this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=55094112

Just RUU as suggested in the previous response.
I suggest leaving your phones stock, unless you are willing to put in the time to read, research, and obtain some real knowledge.
Step-by-step guides and toolkits are dangerous things. As you see, they just get you into trouble without giving you the knowledge or tools to get out of that jam.
I'm surprised you've modded as many phones as you say, and haven't gotten any real knowledge to this point. Either you are very humble; or your story is a testament to the fact that such step-by-step guides shouldn't be posted in the first place.

Thank you for your response but unfortunately I find it extremely arrogant and asinine. The fact is that I have put in a lot of time and knowledge to understand what I am doing. I may not have a conventional degree in coding as you might but I am able to successfully mod my phones by browsing forums like this where you can find an abundance of knowledge, especially step-by-step guides, as you are so against. If you are so against step by step guides then maybe you can be the voice about banning them from this forum. Do you see how I am a new member? I am one of the few that actually search the forums instead of posting another thread asking the same questions. Ive used tools and information from this site for a very long time without having to post one single thing until a few days ago. And this is the response I get? I was even humble enough in my screen name to call myself stupid because, with this specific issue, I knew it had to be something stupid that i was missing. You shouldn't tell people that step by step guides are dangerous things. All it takes is some balls and some command lines and you can accomplish many things. Have I messed up my phones and others before? Yes, but i had never run into a situation I haven't been able to get myself out of. To me, tinkering around, as a hobby, is fun. Like now, as I watch Sunday NFL Countdown, I am about to dust off my Nexus 5 and flash Lollipop on it. Guess what I am going to use? A STEP BY STEP GUIDE!!!! If I mess it up, then Im sure I wouldn't be the first to do so and Im sure Ill find a solution on great forums like this. Besides, my rooted/unlocked OnePlus One is my main phone. I wanted to play around with the M8 again to see if I would miss the smaller screen but I don't. So, thank you for just repeating the first response then proceeding to insult me because you think i don't have the skills needed to mod my devices. I will continue to do so however I please, just as many others will. Either contribute to threads or ignore them. No need for the insults. You've also insulted many other members who have posted tools and step by step guides on this specific site.

Its just a suggestion, and note that its conditional. Therefore, if you meet the latter part of the statement, the first part doesn't apply to you.

I stand by this statement. I've seen dozens dozens of instances where such tools just arm people with enough "knowledge" to get them into trouble, and don't equip them with any tools to get them out. Its then left to folks like me to even start to get these folks on the right track.
I'll step back a bit from my statement that these tools "shouldn't be posted in the first place". I'll agree that step-by-step guides and toolkits might be useful if combined with the proper research, learning and understanding. But in and of themselves, they can easily lead newcomers astray.

I already gave you the benefit of the doubt here, but you chose to react defensively and in my opinion, unreasonably.
In any case, as far as your knowledge and background, we can only go by what you've stated; and you clearly stated yourself as a "careless tinkerer" and "stumbled" upon solutions. Now in your later post you say "I have put in a lot of time and knowledge to understand what I am doing". So if you provide conflicting information as to your background, nobody can be blamed for making an incorrect assumption regarding your knowledge.
