I just updated Poco F1 with MIUI 10.1 using standard OTA update. After the update, it asked for my encryption password. When I enter it, it said password was correct, but data was corrupted, so I needed to reset the device (It only had reset button). I tapped the reset button.
After the reset, I was asked Mi Account password because the device was associated with a Mi Account. Fine. I connected with WiFi and logged in with Mi Account successfully.
Now, the setup began. During the setup process, it is asking for a numeric pin. The title of the screen says "Re-enter your password". What should I enter here? The keyboard that opens is a number pad, so I can't enter other characters. My previous device password was not fully numeric. My Mi account password is also not numeric. My Google account password is also not numeric. What should I enter here?
Have the same problem on mi mix 2s. Have you found the solution?
Just updated to phone over standard OTA, not rooted or unlocked or anything, but now it asks for a pattern password, instead of the PIN password it used to be... wasn't this **** tested before they push it to all the phones?
I wish I read this thread before doing update... >(
Evening I am facing the same
Did u guys find a solution?. Even I am struck at the same.
This also happens to me but not with this update version (I think it's 10.0.6) and it resets my phone including internal storage. Luckily I have a back up of everything in my PC. I'm new to MIUI so I still don't know the right way to flash/install updates without having to reset my phone
I think, at the moment, there's no quick fix for this. You'll need to wipe the data to make it work, or call Xiaomi customer care and check if they could help.
Also, if the data is ultra important, you can try all the passwords starting from 0000. Tedious job!. But again, you should talk to Xiaomi ppl if there are any limited chances for password trial.
There's an official channel for poco user and devs, you can also look for the solutions there. But as far I remember, ppl having this issue couldn't unlock the phone with the password. At last, put this issue on twitter and tag Jai Mani, so that their team can do the needful timely.

Found this bug in their bug tracker, exactly what happened.
en.miui.com/ thread-4914042-1-1.html (sorry, can not post links yet)
I agreed to the factory reset, since to have the phone is more important now. Could even encrypt it again (well, I have basically) nothing to lose - seems working. The most of data could be restored from other sources. The fact that I have to set(delete) all the great Xiaomi stuff once again is quite annoying. I learned something today, will be more wise next time - avoid updates without backup, and avoiding Xiaomi altogether. Was not expecting such crappy business from multi billion company.

How did you do the factory reset? I tried wiping the data multiple times it's still asking for a password

I just put any password (totally random), the system accepted it but said that the data is corrupted. There was only one button, that said "factory reset"
Check the link to Xiaomi bug tracker I have posted above it has a photo.
There are any solution?

Your data may have been saved but what about people having zeros in their pin?

Its not about people already have encrypted their phone using pin number.. This is for pattern encrypted poco.
Got it!
I got the solution...
Grace and glory! Inspired by other peculiar ways to bypass FRP, found my way through!!!
Follow the instructions:
1. On the screen of selecting WiFi network, select your network. Get connected.
2. Then hit "modify", and hit "change password" field.
3. Tap "show password" button, then type your phone number (or any other one).
4. Long tap and hit "call". A caller app is loaded.
5. Hit Save contact.
6. Tap the contact, then hit "share".
7. Choose Gmail app (note: adding Gmail account won't work from there, tried that).
8. Choose "Exchange". Type your email address (or any other one).
9. On the next screen (password selection), hit "select" to choose a certificate.
10. At this moment a device locking screen will be brought up. Change the lock to a PIN number.
!!!Voila!!!
11. Then go back to the beginning of the phone setup process and add Google account with no extra questions.
try with 1111,0000 or 1234
I worked with the last one

Just got hit with this bug. The phone was originally encrypted with pin. The latest update is now requiring a pattern. Cannot try the pin-to-pattern conversion since the pin has a 0.
Any solutions?

Hey guys,
I know this has been posted somewhere in the forums, but it has no answer.
I was messing round with my unlock pattern and it locked me out, so I tried hitting the login with email button and it won't register; it tells me that my credentials are invalid. Is there another way in, or a way to go back to the unlock pattern screen? I know what the unlock pattern is but it doesn't seem like there's a way back to the screen.
Thanks guys, if anyone could reply ASAP that would be great. I can't get into my phone at all!
after five unsuccessfull tries you can log on with your googlemail credentials. if you have not entered them, lost them or don't want to enter them only solution is a wipe.

Actually this is a known bug in Cupcake. Even if you enter your Google credentials correctly it fails to authenticate. There is s workaround. See below:

Sure, but only after 5 unsuccessful tries. Do it until you hit the timed retries. Or don't if you don't want to wipe or mess with workaround. Been there done that. 1yr old got the hero in its paws.
Hello all,
I am sorry if I didn't do a throughout search but I needed help urgently..
and so...
I was playing with a friend's Hero's pattern lock, until it got locked till the extent whereby only inputting the gmail's account details were the only way to unlock it...
He tried to input the particulars, but they didn't work..
he was rather sure that the details were correct..
Anyone can provide any help to this?
Is there any way to "rollback" to the lock screen? I am sure my friend remembers the pattern... just that we couldn't go back ):
Or do we need some kind of internet connection to connect to verify for the account?
Anyone who have experience, I appreciate your help! (and everyone else)
Thanks!
is the phone rooted ? do you have access to the recovery menu ?
No I don't think so... my friend just recently got the phone and has done pretty much nothing other than installing apps from the app store...
He's a first time user of Android too... (so am I...)
Btw, recovery menu wise, do you mean the one whereby he holds a few of the buttons and on the device?
Yea, we managed to get there,
but didn't make any selections because there were some important messages inside the phone... and he doesn't want to hard reset his phone...
Any help? :/
Well if you are on the original stock rom that got shipped with the phone (I assume its 1.5), then I do remember a bug which didnt allow us to get through that menu. So we needed to do a hard reset.
If it has the 1. 5 Rom you can call the phone and disable the unlock pattern. You can do this by going into settings while the call is still being made.
Don't know if you're understanding this. This is the best way to explain.

I've done this a few times accidentally and the Google sign-in has always unlocked it.
Get him to log into his Gmail account on a PC to check his username and password, and then try the same details on the phone. If he's signed in with the correct user account then it should work if everything has been input correctly.
Also, when the phone tries to auto-complete his email address make sure it's correct... my phone always wanted to give me @Googlemail.com, however my email is @Gmail.com so I had to manually change it.
As for apps he has downloaded from the Market... if you do need to do a hard reset then he will be able to download everything again via the downloads tab in the Market app,
Also, any photos, mp3s etc stored on the SD will all still be there as the SD remains unaffected by a reset. The only thing he might loose is any contacts stored on the phone which are not sync'd with Google or saved on the SIM.
Hi all I feel like such a doofus posting this.
I've forgotten the screen lock password for my Galaxy SII...I use the numeric PIN...not the swipe pattern.
On my last attempt a message box appeared saying that if I re-enter the password incorrectly again that "all data will be wiped" !
I cannot lose the data on this phone and all the google searches give say to a hard reset. There was a weird "tap the home key method" that I couldnt get to work as well.
Now I think I can remember the combination (it's either one or two numbers I'm positive of), but I'm too scared to enter them in just in case they are wrong.
I'm wondering if there is some sort of timer to the password attempts so they reset back to the 5 attempts I get to enter it.
Or will rebooting the phone for example reset the attempts?
It's pretty urgent because I really need to use the phone at the moment.
Hope someone can help.
Thanks.

at one stage it should have asked for your google account password, did it? if so provide your google account password and it will unlock your phone.

If u restart the phone, would u still see that u only have 1 try left ?
i had the same a little while ago, and i thought my fix was to restart the phone.
other fix that might help, i don't know if u have a backup done with CWM?
if so u could use the backup to restore and check if u still have 1 try left.
Ok, so heres my problem. Ill try and be as specific as possible without acting like a crazy person, because i am at my wits end with this.
I bought this tablet cheap at a pawn shop. They said it was locked and they 100% could not contact the original owner of it. Me, being somewhat learned with android stuffs, said ok, i will reset it from the recovery menu, NO PROBLEM. yea right. Get home, reset it and now I am introduced to this new Google factory reset protection business.
Now I have researched all possible ways to bypass this. The #1 solution is to get into the settings menu and enable developer options and go from there. I have enabled developer options on every android i have ever owned. Somehow, with this p.o.s. tablet....it will not work. I have tried every which way to tap build number 1, 000 times and nothing. For some reason, I cant get it to work.
Another solution that i found was to download and sideload this app to bypass it for you. Technically, its for Samsung devices, but i tried it anywho. All good until i plug the tablet into my pc. The PC wont recongnize the stupid tablet.
I am asking EVERYONE and ANYONE. Is there some other way for me to get past this crap? It is a RCA Viking Pro 10" tablet Android version 6.0 Model Number-RCT6303W87M7
PLEASE HALP!
Thanks in advance peoples,
-Jess
Same exact tablet and problem too.
My neighbor got it at an auction and I've done the Wipe Data/Factory Reset and then the trick to get into settings but tapping on Build doesn't work. Someone mentioned that 4 long taps worked for them so I tried that too with no luck. Not sure what else to do but send the neighbor to a cellphone repair store but it's for his grandson so I wanted to help out. Any advice/instructions would be great.
Thanks,
Roger

I think I may have solved this problem. I also may have been the first to do this since I haven't found the answer anywhere else and I successfully accomplished it very easily actually after weeks of trying every available method out there. I hope this helps everyone. Let me know how it goes. Here goes: after getting to the page asking for the previous owners info, I hit the back button. I hit add network and typed in several random letters. I then long pressed those letters and clicked assist. I then clicked on gmail and was taken to the permissions and such page. I clicked on the 3 dots in the upper right and clicked manage apps. From there it took me to the settings page. Once in settings, I simply just added another user account and entered my current google information and went through all the steps. After I made it to the home screen I powered off the tablet and then restarted it. It asked for my info again and I entered my google information and it took me to the home screen after answering a few more questions. I then went to settings and deleted the user account I set up and that made me owner. I even did a complete reset and it no longer had the previous owners info. It only needed mine. FINALLY, I can use this tablet after weeks and frustration of trying to bypass this. Please let me know if this works for anyone. I may have left out something on accident if it doesn't. I'll redo it if I have to and possibly make a video if so. Thanks. I hope this does the trick. It would be nice to be the first at something for once if this is the case. Lol

Well, turns out this tablet is a RCT6603 with the last patch date being June 2016. It wouldn't let me enter a Google account - it would go straight to the screen where it said this tablet was reset and to enter the previous owner's account information. Google must have really patched that version tight as a drum...
Glad it's at least working for you though.

Mine was RTC6303 with an earlier date than yours , I used the 4 long presses to get into developers mode and it worked.... Russ
an old thread but figured id add a note in case anyone comes looking later :
go through setup, enter wifi and when it comes up asking for previous owners info, hit back till you get to wifi screen, click on 'add wifi' then hit a few random characters, click and hold on the characters and then select 'ASSIST'.
When new window opens up, type chrome and select the chrome app when it shows in the dropdown menu, download and install google account manager 6.0.1 apk, then download and install quick shortcut maker, open quick shortcut maker and then type 'google account manager' in search bar. click on this and then from the options that open, select the 1 that ends with 'loginactivity' and then select 'Try IT', from the new screen that opens up, click the 3 dots at top right of screen and select 'Browser Sign-in'. Log in with your Google credentials, once it goes back to the quick shortcut maker screen, use power button to restart tablet, proceed through setup as per normal and instead of going to the google login screen, itll come up stating that your new accounts are ready for use.
once you have went through setup fully, goto settings and factory reset the tablet, this will get the tablet to a 'brand new out of the box' state and remove those previous credentials from your legally purchased 2nd hand tablet
It worked!
Thank you your instructions worked perfectly.
Hi there! So happy to see that this post was updated!!
I found a bit of a quicker way to get through the FRP issue thanks to everyones comments.
1. Connect to wifi
2. Back out and click add new network. Type some letters and highlight, click on Assist.
3. In the search box start typing Settings and wait for the settings app to appear. Click that.
4. Go to Back up and Reset. Click Factory Reset which will delete the connected google account.
Thanks guys! Also plugging in a mouse made it way easier to zip through all the steps.
So I do everything that all of you have tried and it wont work. I got the tablet from my grandmother who passed away. I am getting more irritated with the device as I do not have the money to buy a new one. I do as everyone says to do however there is no assist button at all when I highlight everything.... help please.... Im pulling my hair out over this
I found the easiest way to get into settings, theres a button on the keyboard with the settings icon, press it and it takes you straight to the settings menu.
I need your help. For days I've been trying to access my Google Account that created my dad on the z5c. Since I did not remember the pin of the screen unlock I did a hard reset flashing the latest version downloaded by xperiafirm. But when I turned on, I was asked for my Google Account again. For days now I am trying to retrieve my password, but I can not do it. I read the same discussion on a z5, but there was no solution because it was assumed to be a stolen cell phone, the same thing that Google believes for mine I suppose...
Unfortunately, I passed the account I used on my xzp and done it, after which my father created another account on the z5c, leaving it unused for a couple of months. And now that I wanted to use it as a second phone I can not access it anymore. Is there any solution that you will not continue to try to unnecessarily restore your account from the Google page? Unfortunately they do not even have a telephone help, they only have a forum support center in which I keep saying that I must insist on trying to recover password ... I hope in a solution.
I don't get it... a full flash process is supposed to erase everything, so the prompt should ask you to sign-in or create a new account. Am I missing something ?

okay, but according to what you wrote, it seems that you're stuck at the prompt. If you can't create a new account, you are likely trying to access to a locked phone, meaning it might be stolen actually (and of course you probably did not flash it). If it is really yours, you can recover your password. Otherwise, nothing can help.

I apologize for my clarity. I'm trying to retrieve the password through the Google passes for several days, but with no results. The phone is mine, then given to my dad when i bought xz premium, he created this new account forgot the passwords and left for 3 or 4 months unused. Now I can not retrieve that password, although I'm always connected to the same WiFi network and I do not understand why Google does not recognize me as a proprietor, I tried to contact them in the forum where they do "help" but they tell me that l The only way is to endlessly try their questions
don't apologize, you're welcome. The fact is that, if you're not able to recover the password, nothing on the world would do a miracle. I'm sorry if you have some datas that you would get back, but the only solution for you is to create a new account. Don't waste your time trying to sign in.

Ahaha thank you bro :highfive:
No, the point is that I do not care about the data because there was nothing apart from music saved by my father. Also because before I gave it I reset the phone and then he created this new account. The point is, Google does not make me create a new account, but wants that created by my father.
If someone needs them, I've resolved doing the downgrade to Android 5 lollipop ?.
