Brand new unlocked mate 20 Pro. Took SIM out of my unlocked Google Pixel 2 XL. At first the Mate didn't recognize it. Restarted and it connected (4G LTE) and all was good.
Until a few hours later when the phone now has the "SOS calls only" indicator.
Sometimes it will just magically reconnect, other times a restart will get it done. Sometimes a restart won't get it done.
Went into an AT&T store today and after waiting 30 minutes for an associate I was treated to 5 minutes of generic excuses of why there was nothing they could do to help ("It's not an AT&T device" "You may get sporadic service" blah blah blah...
Hoping someone else has this phone and figured out how to resolve this. It's hands down the best phone I've ever owned.

Best bet is to get another SIM, APN settings may be off
I have spotty coverage for making/receiving calls where I live, but no problem with data

Actually found the APN settings on AT&T site and matched them up to mine perfectly. No joy.

Go to an AT&T store, not the one went to previously, and ask for a new SIM or order online. If that doesn't work I don't know bruh??*

We'll order a new SIM, that's all I have
There's another post somewhere about a similar issue with AT&T. I have T-Mobile so the SIM always works fine as soon as you pop it in any phone with compatible bands but the AT&T customer said he had to call customer service and they did something with the IMEI number since this model isn't in their system. You should look for the earlier post--it will probably help.

Hi Folks,
I was having the issue with my Vario II (on my 3rd Handset) where the phone enters standby and never wakes up until a soft reset.
When the 3rd handset arrived I decided to bite the bullet and go for WM Black and see if it made the handset any better. Unfortunately, as good as the new ROM (now on V2) is, it didnt solve my hanging issue.
The next thing I decided to do was change the radio ROM. I first went to the 1.38.10 and then to 1.38.11 and then to 1.27.00, as the later was decribed as being the most stable.
As you have probably guessed by now, the issue still plagues me....Even more so since the radio upgrades. The symptoms are as follows;
- Some calls I answer go silent after around 30 secs and I need to soft reset
- The phone can show full bars of signal but the phone diverts to answering machine
- When connecting to the internet, the icons shows as connecting but then drops to no signal (showing a !) then after a while will start to reconnect. Sometimes I need to soft reset to get the connection again
I am wondering if there is something else I am missing that could be causing the issue. I am using it today with no apps and still have the same issues as above plus the freezing issue.
Is there anything else I can change???? or am I just cursed?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers and thanks in advance
Aidan
I would say, try your SIM card in a TOTALLY different phone (not just a different Hermes) As you would have to be fairly unlucky for it to happen with THREE seperate devices, especially with different ROMs also.
If there is a handset available to you that is either a tmobile or SIM unlocked.....give it a go.

I belive it's your SIM card also..ask your provider to replae the SIM card for you. Just tell them your issues and it happened to three handset with the same SIM. I bet they will able to replace the SIM card without charge.

Yep SIM cards cost JACK ALL to the providers. If they do charge you then thats gotta ring alarm bells!!!
Hanging on wake-up was my big disappointment when going from Vario I to Vario II.
It decreased after upgrading to WM6 (first black 1.2, now black 2.0). In my case the SPB mobile shell also did not seem to do the problem any good, probably because it starts the 'now' screen on wake-up.
I have not much software on my device and have very few hanging issues.
I work for a Cingular retailer, and I just signed my fathers business up. Someone had told me that the IMEI on the account had to match the phone on a 3g phone or the exact same symptoms you are seeing would occur. I confirmed it with my pop's business. the three people using 3g phones had serious problems with calls going to VM, not getting txts, and poor service in general. Once i fixed the serial numbers Cingular-side, everything was peachy. This happens to be my first post (longtimelurker) so if I'm full of ****, feel free to tell me. Check with your service provider and make sure they have the right IMEI on file. If not, you'll prolly have to go to a store to have a clerk fix it, but it'll be worth your trip if im right .
Hope I helped.

I don't think IMEI is the issue here. I just signed up with Cingular and got a Motorola K1..but the SIM is a 3G sim. I simply pop that into my Hermes and it's been working for 2 month now without any issues. Another thing with Cingular...the IMEI on their database is automatically updated..it's not like you have a Motorola phone and switched the SIM to a SonyEricsson phone and still using the Motorola IMEI #....it will not work that way. In fact, all GSM providers will automatically update the IMEI in their system once the SIM is registered in their network. I can confirm that with my HTC tytn with the Cingular's online account. You can check the online account pretty much on what type of phone you current have. If I use the Motorola K1, the online account will be updated as unknow phone due to it's new I guess...but when I use the HTC tytn..it's automaticlly updated as HTC 8525...even I manually change the phone type to other phone...after couple minutes..I log back on and it will show the HTC 8525 again. Base on this, I am sure IMEI is not the issue here. One thing to note is that I did get that hanging on wake up when I have the SPB software installed.
i can concur about the IMEI... i havent changed my IMEI on my account since i had a sony ericsson a few years back... and i have no data problems.. i take that back, i had some when i first got the 8525, but then found out i needed the white 3G sim, since then it has been flawless.
Awaiting Sim
Thanks for all the advice. I tried the phone with someone elses sim card the other day and it seemed to behave itself. I am going to phone t-mobile and ask them for a replacement SIM.
Will let you know how I get on.
Cheers

AGGGHHHH!
It doesnt get any better....
I just phoned T-Mobile and asked them for a replacement SIM to be sent out. The girl I spoke to said that she could order me a new SIM which would be out in between 1-3 days but she would have to disconnect my current SIM when the new one was despatched! This means no phone for this time, which I need for business
I asked whether I could phone for activation when the new SIM arrived but this she tells me is not possible.......AGGGGHHH!
She did suggest that I could pay 15quid for an 'interactive' swap over at a T-Mobile store but I have issues getting to a store during the week and they are then going to see that VM6 Black edition is on the phone!
Any suggestions?

What the hell?!?! Thats bullcrap if ive ever heard it, when i got a replacment USIM from O2 my existing one worked until i called O2 to activate the new one? Maybe T-Mobile has a backwards way of provisioning them?! That sucks dude. Suggest you call them again (if you havent already got an order through) and do another request...you may hit the jackpot with a different operator?!

As far as I understand how GSM works...The T-Mobile lady is correct. You can't have the two SIMs having the same #, one has to be deactivated before the new one is active. But if you are sure the new SIM will get to you in a day or two, you can have them to schedule deactivation of the old SIM two days later, schedule the new SIM to be active in two days..the only donw time you have is probably a an hour or two if the timing is correct. If you are able to go to a T-mobile store for direct swap, you can get the new SIM working within an hour but they shouldn't be charging you $15 at the store even you have WM6 black on the phone becasue the phone is not faulty, the faulty part is the SIM and they should honor their warranty.

Agreed on the warranty there dude.
O2 simply sent out a replacment USIM, obviously not activated yet. It arrived and i called them, they took the sim card number and said I should lose reception on my existing sim (it wasnt 3G ready) and thats when i should put the new one in, as soon as i lost reception i swapped and it was working (got the U symbol straight away).
I figure T-mobile would do the same?!?!
Bit the bullet yesterday and paid 15 quid for a new SIM card. It has made he haw difference. Still got major issues. The phone has no signal most of the time and even on the rare occasions when it does, the calls go to answerphone.
The signal shows an exclamation mark (!) and the only way I can get rid of it is to do a hard reset and it works for a couple of hour (or less). It is as though it is constantly in flight mode.
I have never got LTE on my phone and my dad has the same phone as me and we got them on the same day and he gets LTE all the time but I am yet to see it on my phone. All I have seen is 4g. I called Tmobile customer service and they told me to check the network settings and it was set on LTE auto connect. So the person told me to take it to a tmobile store for an exchange. I went in there and the guy tried using 6 different brand new sim cards and I was still getting 4g but when he plugged the sim card in from his phone it was getting LTE. So they exchanged the phone and it still wasnt getting 4 lte. I ended up going to another store and waiting for 2 hours and the guy was on the phone will tmobile trying to figure the problem out and they couldnt figure it out. Does anybody know this is happening?

If you exchanged the entire phone and it still happens, I'm guessing it's something to do with the LTE provisioning on tmobiles side for your phone number. Call them again and tell them even with a new phone and sim card, it still happens.
Anyone get their call forwarding to work? If so what did you do.
I keep getting this same error: Failed to forward incoming call from your mobile device to your Gear. Tap OK to try again.
I got that too from time to time. But that is because my phone has a poor reception at home. Gear S need to ask your phone to setup the forwarding via special dialer code. If your phone can't get signal for dialing code, it will fail even though it may be connected to Internet via wifi.

Yea I think I'm screwed. At least I know it is possible on AT&T tho.
FIXED IT!
I was able to get this issue fixed. This was bugging me for a month. Here are the steps I took to resolve this issue.
Uninstalled Gear Manager from the Note 4.
When I reinstalled Gear Manager it forced me to do a factory reset on the Gear S. This did not fix the issue however.
Did a factory reset on both the phone and the Gear S. This also did not fix the issue.
Got a new sim card for the Gear S. This did not fix the issue.
Got a new nano sim card for the Note 4. The Note 4 takes a micro sim but I had an adapter I bought off Amazon that takes a nano sim and makes it fit into micro slots. This also did not fix the issue.
Upgraded to Lollipop. This did not fix the issue.
Finally I found this thread.
https://forums.att.com/t5/Samsung-D...y-Phone-Settings/td-p/4170378/highlight/false
Someone said it was the settings on my account. I called AT&T on my Gear S number and pressed some buttons till I got their Technical Support team. I somehow got transferred to their Advanced Technical Support team right away. I talked to a guy named Robert. He was super helpful and listened as I told him what my issue was. I didn't even mention the Gear S call forwarding problem as that confuses a lot of reps. I just told him that I couldn't access the call forwarding setting in my Android Note 4 because I was getting a sim card or network error. Which I was. I told him to check deep in my account setting as I researched this online and it appears to be an account settings issue. He worked on his end and told me to turn my phone off. Then he told me to turn it back on. I did and went into the settings and did not get the error message. I was soooo happy. I thanked Robert and told him I was just going to mess with the settings a bit more and I didn't want to keep him. He said thank you for being a valued customer and we hung up.
My real reason for going thru this was to get the call forwarding set up between my Gear S and my Note 4. I made a sign of the cross and kissed the feet of my Roman statue before trying to initiate the call forwarding through a remote connection between my Gear S and Note 4. This time it worked.
So in my opinion it appears to be an account settings issue because it works for me now.
The Problem Came Back Again
Ok so the problem came back again. AT&T said that it is a known issue where you can't set up your device for call forwarding. To fix it, all you have to do is call AT&T and they reregister your device to the network. Then, you turn your phone off and on again and everything works.

All i did was downgrade back to kitkat then tried call forwarding and it worked perfect then let the note 4 re update to lollipop and call forwarding still works and has ever since no more sim or network error this was the only way i found to fix it cause AT&T couldn't tell me why it wouldn't work.
You know I think you're right. Because in my case I took my Note 4 to the Samsung Experience in Best Buy and they flashed lollipop thinking that would fix it but it didn't. I had to call AT&T support each time it didn't work. Then the OTA update of lollipop came thru to my phone and I let it install. So basically I reinstalled lollipop even tho I already had. There must have been some AT&T updates in there because ever since the OTA it has been working flawlessly.
I still get the network or sim card error from time to time. Call forwarding works after a reboot of both the phone and the watch. It's dumb that I have to do that tho.

This is for at&t/takes a few minutes to get to the point but maybe it will help. This guy also does a pretty comical review of a durability test too. I heard at&t auto call forwarding is finicky.
How To Setup Call Forwarding for the Samsung Gear…: http://youtu.be/-pAeLZxOuqk
Yea that guy is awesome. I've seen his videos before.
Samsung locked the forwarding option off the note 4 at least for Att. Once you call them and have them set it up server side everything works perfect

Yea mine has been working recently so I'm good. My problem appeared to be AT&T. I went to the AT&T store and they told me to contact Samsung. I went to Samsung and they told me to contact AT&T. Made me wish I had an iPhone at that point.
Forwarding is an account feature. Samsung can't lock it. It is AT&T that locked it. It depends where your original AT&T account came from and how it was setup. They used to charge customers for this feature. That's why not everyone has it turned on.
Hope my experience will help someone. I followed all the tutorials I could find and could not get it to work. I finally gave in and called AT&T support. I didn't get the brightest person but this woman would not give up. On a last ditch effort it ended up being 2 things. I am behind a Microcell and forgot to enter the Gears S number. Second was she noticed that the profile for my line still had a Blackberry Passport on it from when I was messing around with one. She entered the IMEI for the Samsung device I am using and had me reboot. Wham, the Gear went into Call Forwarding mode. Tested all day today and just left my device at home. It worked like a charm.
I Still Love AT&T Tho
You got lucky. Whenever I call AT&T and mention the Gear S, they're like "uh" and don't even know what the device is. Same with the store. I went in there and they were like "man the Samsung guy was just here." I went to Samsung and they told me it was AT&T's fault and to contact them. I felt like Samsung was blowing me off but it really was AT&T's fault. If you ever have a problem with your call forwarding, don't even mention the Gear S when talking to AT&T. Just tell them you can't get your Samsung phone to set up call forwarding. Tell them every time you go into the call settings, then more settings you get a network and sim card error. When they fix this, they also fix your Gear S forwarding error without even knowing it.
So my phone will stay connected to AT&T for the most part but right now and every now and then it kicks to emergency calls only. It will automatically register to AT&t and it recognizes the SIM all the time. In LTE discovery it shows that it connects to LTE when the phone trys to connect but after it connects it drops lte and kicks back to emergency calls only. Lte discovery shows the sim but network type and voice type says UNKNOWN. I've tried every network option (LTE, Wdcdma, UTMS, GSM) all of em when it does work its set to LTE, UMTS so i just leave it on there. Ive tried resetting network settings ive factory reset several times, ive changed the APN settings ive even put it on us998 firmware nothing is working. The sim reader and sim work every now and then so i dont think its hardware related. Ive edited the build prop so default carrier and target operator are set to ATT ive even tried registering to At&t manually nothing is working, im out of ideas any help is appreciated!
Well case closed IMEI came up as clean but it says financial responsibility blah blah blah. I am going to return the phone to the eBay seller, or hopefully that will pay the balance cause i really like this v30.

Hi,
My wife and I have been waiting long enough for a new flagship Sony xperia phone that can run Verizon network, and there it is the Xperia 1 that claims to be Verzion certified. We are not exactly on the verzion network but a verizon mnvo. We are on the Total wireless network so in the past any phone that was unlocked Verizon device we have been able to use it on our phone plan.
Until the Xperia 1 arrived today, We put the our total wireless sim card in, and it only works half way. We are able to get Mobile data, but no luck on Call and text. When a phone call is made, a message " Server Error, Try again later" . Text msg seems like it able to go out but not receiving.
Called Total Wireless just now, they ran few test in the past 30 mins , no luck, transfer to a next level tech, we were told we need a new sim card.
Need couple days to get a sim card. but mean while trying to see if anyone had run in to the same situation before and had a better solution.
*try the *#*#4636#*#* , and played with the VoLTE on/off, nothing did happen
Thanks !
Is your APN correct?
