I'm getting a strange error trying to access email using the default mail app on the G5. The mail server is at fasthosts.co.uk, and I'm using exactly same settings on Outlook on a PC with no problems:
Incoming: IMAP/mail.livemail.co.uk/port 993/SSL,
Outgoing: smtp.livemail.co.uk/port 465/SSL
I've triple-checked the username and password, and even tried accessing the same email account from a different LG phone (V20), again using the default mail app, and have no problems. It's just the G5 which refuses to connect to the mail server.
Any ideas???

I setup my email account using IMAP. After getting my initial mail, the amount of messages I have in the Inbox stays the same, even after I delete them. Just for clarification, It says "4" (in the green circle) next to Inbox even though it's empty. It also says "4 new emails" on the screen-lock page. I tried deleting and recreating the account, but it stays the same.
I originally ran this account as POP3 (with "never delete from server" selected), but when my phone received a message, it would stop it from showing up on my computer's email client. It didn't just happen when I deleted the message on the phone.. the phone seemed to be taking it from the server.
I'd rather run the account as POP3, but I'd be happy with either if they worked properly. The only reason I have it setup in IMAP is because it allows me to receive the same message on my phone and computer.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

For the last few days i haven't been able to send or receive my email on my e3d. It just says login fail when it goes to sync..I can get into my mail through the browser so I know my pw is good..I've tried adjusting IMAP and ssl but It's still doing it..I've had this problem on my og EVO as well..I've also deleted the account and set up again to no avail.
So I go to "Accounts and sync", enter my email adress and password to my google account. Then on the next screen it asks for Domain/username, password, and server.
I enter X/my.account.name, the password and gmail.com com as server (I tried X= google.com, gmail.com, www.google.com, www.gmail.com), but I always get an "Unable to open connection to server" message.
What should I do ?
You're setting up a Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync account. I don't recall Google having Microsoft Exchange support. Large workplaces, corporations, and Hotmail does however.

I'd like to use my gmail account connected via exchange activesync. I set that up with various email apps and it works nicely.
The only problem is that I don't use my gmail address as my known email address. I have an alias that points to gmail. When I email people, I want that alias to show as the email and reply to addresses.
When I have everything set up via IMAP/SMTP, I'm able to do that with K9.
Unfortunately, when connected via the Activesync way and I send mail, it always shows my gmail address to the recipient.
Is there any way/app that would allow me to do what I want?
I do have my alias set up as a send mail as option in the gmail web interface.

Bump. I've tried a bunch of different apps. Looks to me that when you use activesync, Google hardcodes your Gmail address as the From address.
If anyone finds anything different, please share.
Back to Gmail's broken implementation of imap. Maybe one day they'll start to push read flags.
Hi,. I'm on the mate 10 pro US variant and this keeps happening several times a day, I receive a pop-up message telling me that mail is not being retrieved untill I go in and verify by entering email ID and password, any chance this can be fixed? Thanks

I have the European version and this has been happening to me. I think it's because of two step verification and needing Gmail to use an app password instead of just your normal gmail login. It used to allow you to login manually and add the app password instead of doing it via an automated process to verify your Gmail account. I can still manually login for yahoo but not Gmail. I've stopped using it for the time being because of this.
It happened to me as well, you need to go to Google settings in browser and allow less secure apps like the email app to function.
