Hi guys,
I have just found this mobile and I must say that I love it. The only problem is that I don't know where to buy it!
Do have any idea?
T.
Ebay. That's where I got mine.
But they don't ship to the Czech Rep.
If you are from Czech Republic, you can buy HTC Star Trek (Qtek 8500) on aukro.cz but you must have full registration (on aukro.cz).
Not Easy
I am in the UK, it was sold as the SPV F600 here but I can't find it anywhere not even on ebay, I have bought one from the US but its in such a bad state I cant use it so I would love to get my grubby hands on a good one.
Star Trek on Ebay this week
Hi,
I have a Star Trek on Ebay this week, it's a great phone but not really for me! I have an Excalibur as my main phone and have decided to stick with that instead.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=300305116657
It's all in very good condition - and it's the version with the larger battery and 128MB ROM, too.
It currently runs Pampooh's 6.1 Standard ROM.
Take a look and see what you think. I know these things are rare, and I can see the appeal as it's great to have a clamshell phone with so much power.
You may want to consider one thing and that is with the data speed. It is not 3G. My only other complaint is with the keypad. I would prefer a pad that you can feel. This one is more or less a flat surface so you have trouble feeling for keys. Otherwise it is a great phone. It's got a good solid feel to it and the flip design is desirable for many reasons. Personally I like to talk into a phone where the microphone is actually in front of your mouth. The biggest advantage is that the screen is protected when the phone is closed. I often wonder why nobody thought to move forward with the concept of a flip-smartphone.
at expansys.com they have it in B-stock (second hand devices) for less then 60GBP
it was so cool... i love the startrek and miss my old pinkish one
Newegg.com (US) has it for $99 brand new. I don't know if they ship overseas.

I have mine for sale, it is used and comes with all accessories. I can part with it for $70 +$28 for worldwide shipping through EMS.
I think the tone for the Thunderbolt launch was set with HTC's ridiculously pretentious slogan "this isn't your dream phone, it's the one after that." The expectations were set high. And them came the official announcement, with no release date and lackluster specs. But then again, the dual-core phones that were announced probably wouldn't be out for awhile, so excitement for the TB remained high.
Next, the Verizon iPhone is announced and then released shortly after. Pricing information puts the Thunderbolt at $250, making it one of the most expensive phones out there. This was surprising considering the specs, despite the 32GB SD card included. Release date rumors run rampant, with rumored dates coming and going. Best Buy starts taking money for pre-orders without a date or data plan pricing announced.
Some videos of the TB get posted on YouTube, including benchmarks. Disappointingly, the Thunderbolt can't even match up to the 9 month old Galaxy S in the gaming benchmarks.
Then, the final nail in the coffin for me: the release of the Atrix. Now, I personally have no interest in buying a Motorola phone, but it beats the pants off of the Thunderbolt in all of the benchmarks, is dual-core, has more RAM (1GB vs 768MB in the TB), has a significantly higher resolution screen (despite being smaller), and is about 20% thinner/10% lighter while having a 40% higher battery capacity. It also has Gorilla Glass, which the TB may well have but we wouldn't know. And, to add insult to injury it is $50 cheaper than the unreleased Thunderbolt.
After typing all of that out, HTC's slogan seems even more ridiculous to me (which I didn't think was possible). Now, this all may seem overly harsh, but this is a phone that you're going to be stuck with for 2 years with no options for early upgrade (thanks Verizon!). As time goes on without a release date, new phones are being announced and released and the Thunderbolt is losing its luster. I can't imagine them screwing this launch up any more than they have.
Anyways, I just wanted to vent my (and my wife's) frustrations and see what everyone thought...

I agree. No matter what you buy , there will be a better phone out the next week. Just get a good one and you will be happy with it. I have had my Inc almost a year and I have been very happy with it. It will be the same with the Tbolt.

The OP is also forgetting that the Atrix is on another network.
So while it may be cheaper up front, you would end up paying far more per month for less data. Also, the Atrix is not LTE but HSPA+ so as ATT starts moving over to LTE, the ATRIX wont take advantage of it.
I agree but thunderbolt is still a good phone. Oh by the way Atrix is lte capable just reaserch it. I might be going with the atrix even though I hate Motorola. I might return.my inspire 4g since the bumped up the attic release date.

This Best Buy commercial explains it all... I love it. The BB program kinda sucks, but the commercial hits technology to the tee.

I thought that was debunked since the FCC papers do not show a LTE radio in there. The rumor is of a possibly refreshed Atrix down the line with an LTE chip, but I thought the current one is categorically not LTE able.

No I swear I read from a very credible website and even could have been one of the videos where they said. Atrix 4G will be only phone that will be able to do LTE down the line when ATT upgrades their network. It was a few months back, I am sure if you google it a little, you might be able to dig it up.

Unfortunately the price point on the TB is not appropriate for a "decent phone".

No I'm not forgetting that at all. If I could live with 2GB/mo AT&T would be substantially cheaper than Verizon for me, but I won't go to AT&T as a matter of principal. But I don't think the argument holds up either way, because $200 has always been the ceiling for new phones on both networks (aside from the ridiculous Droid R2-D2).
My post is really about the phones anyway--my main gripe is that HTC/Verizon are pitching (and charging for) the TB as if it's some cutting-edge device, when it's nothing more than an incremental improvement over what was already out there and has significantly inferior hardware to a phone that will be shipping before it.
And as for LTE, lots of places will be waiting 2+ years for it to come to their area.
To the OP, what was u expecting some quad core phone that can run crysis on max. Sang so what if its not the fastest dam phone stay with ur Samsung. You act like this is some type of game system lol. I don't see the price as an issue. Really is a duel core going to improve my Twitter , Facebook, angry birds experience no lol. If the bionic,GS2

While the Atrix 4G's speed was also reflected on our benchmark tests, it didn't blow other smartphones out of the water. The handset achieved an An3DBench score of 6,305, more than 1,000 points above the current average, but just 25 points faster that the Inspire 4G. Also, both the Nexus S (6,853) and Droid Pro (7,352) handily beat the Atrix 4G on this test.
Though the Atrix 4G notched a fast Linpack score of 32.7, beating the Evo Shift 4G (29.7) and T-Mobile G2 (28.7), the Inspire 4G logged a higher 37.58. The Atrix 4G's most impressive score was on the Benchmark CPU test, where it notched a record 2,369, almost 1,500 points above average, and almost 200 points higher than the myTouch 4G (2,190)./

the tegra 2 chip is yet to be optimize fully in 2.2 so until the update to 2.3 and beyond to utilize the two cores, it will have comparable data to the sencond generation snapdragon in the thunderbolt/inspire/mytouch 4g/desirez.

I probably won't buy it; but as you said it's certainly within my right to post my thoughts and I was just curious how other people felt about the whole thing. I prefer HTC's skin (if I couldn't have vanilla) and build quality over the other manufacturers, however my MyTouch 3G is an absolute piece of junk and has been since the day I got it.
And no, I'm not expecting a quad core phone in 2011, that's a false dichotomy. There are shades of gray, and I don't think expecting the TB to beat a 9 month-old phone in gaming is too much to ask. Considering I'd be stuck with the phone for 2 years, I don't want to worry about whether I'm going to be able to use new apps/play new games a year and a half from now.
There will be a phone like the Atrix on Verizon released in Nov. From a very reliable source.

Being me, money is an issue. $250 is obscene, but by pre-ordering with bestbuy, I received a $50 giftcard too. So it is actually $200. But I will be paying the tax of $250 and not $200. So $200 is the cost of current upper tier, so eh.
Actually guys the skype thing isnt a big suprise since the icon installed on the phone says "SKYPE DEMO" !!!
Even when youve seen videos online it was always a DEMO VIDEO of skype in action.
i am on att with the iphone 4 and was thinking about the atrix but when i seen the bionic and decided to wait i wish there was a release date for the bionic
I still dont see how its not cutting edge. Its one of the top phones that will be on the market. It has already been benched against 2 other "future release" phones (bionic & the samsung) and it beat them both in testing and the bionic is a dual core.
Yes its true there will be bigger and badder bad boys out there eventually but that is true for all electronics pretty much. Even when these newer phones come out this phone will still run neck and neck with them in terms of features and such. I can understand speed and memory for PC and laptops but this is a phone, how powerful do you need it. Yes I like the specs and all but I still dont think all the power it has will be fully tapped into by me.
Well said , my feelings exactly ! It is a phone , not a laptop or ipod.
It had a quadrant score of 1950, how fast does it need to be.

Seriously, the price is way too high.. 600 dollars is the most I'd pay for a tablet. How many here actually bought it?
If they release it internationally, I would. Sans the contract, of course. The pricing is not too far off the 32GB iPad 2 3G, but the Jetstream has the pen AND SD slot. If this ever comes out WiFi only, I'm sure to get it.
The only real problem I see is the contract pricing from AT&T. Thats way too high for a 2-year contract.

I'm seriously contemplating it...
$699 for a 32 gig tab is more than any other Android tab out there but considering it is expandable up to as large an SD card as you want to put in it... 32g more at this point and it comes with the pen right now which is an $80 accessory.... not that bad. Also when you compare it to the same size iPad2 it is actually less money by $30 and $130 less than the 64g iPad2. I already pay $50 a month for an unlimited aircard so downgrading and then pimping off my Android phone for additional airtime when not on wifi will take care of that.

I agree with you.... I had a Dell Streak 7 and an iPad WiFi + 3G 64GB. I sold both of them and got this tablet and I haven't looked back. I love it, just needs to be rooted. I was paying $25 for the 2GB iPad plan, changed it to the $35 3GB plan - service discount = $28 and change. so for a few bucks more a month it was worth it.
- Dan
It's only $50 more than the 32GB GT 10.1 LTE on VZW and AT&T's data plan is cheaper. The GT 3G I'm importing from the UK is actually more expensive. They all get pricy once you include a data connection.
Yep,despite all the hype that it was outrageously pricey, I didn't see a glaringly high difference than the iPad 2 in price, and I like the way it feels.
I would like to see it rooted and get a decent case for it, though....
Its a sweet tab. I bought it, love it. Price wasn't an issue as the jetstream has all the features I want. This is much better than the iPad
I wont pay that much for it, specially because I don't use the internal connection..
I like it but I'll wait for a wifi only version, or for att finally realize is to expensive and decrease the price..
It's funny to me so many sites, people, articles, etc...getting stuck on the price. Yes, it's expensive! It's almost the same price as the Xoom was, and the ipad 2 (depending on type and version of course).
I'm very impressed thus far with the quality of this tablet and what it offers for me. This is an extremely better buy (for the $ spent) then ipad, Xoom, Acer, etc in my opinion.

i wanted one but just picked up a Transformer a few minutes ago for $390 @ Best Buy. I couldn't justify the extra 300 when i could get another Transformer for almost the difference.
Jetstream
Bought, love it....not worried about the price.
Have been an IPAD user since it came out....love it but really cant do anything with it except surf the web and look at some photos.
The Jetstream is expensive but when I looked at the 64gb Ipad @ we were in the same ballpark and it lack many of the features I wanted.
PLUS, it's just like my phone. Not sure if anyone has really mentioned this advantage but it's very familiar to my rooted inspire running RC mix Kingdom 3d...
I love knowing how to use the thing out of the box...
Now, I just need to figure out how to get on my VPN at work!
You can get the Jetstream for $549 with a 2 year contract!
I ordered mine last week from AT&T. When you order the 3Gig LTE Data plan with a 2 year commitment you get the Jetstream for $549.00 before tax.

That is nice hut how you did it because I was seeing to order it online without contract and it says the prices mentioned before and it even obligate you to get a data plan?
Does the means that I could get it no contract for $699? If so, i am in.
I already bought an HTC Flyer earlier this year, which is $499 for a 16 GB, 7" tablet, plus $80 for the pen. I'm quite happy with it. If not for already owning the Flyer, I would seriously consider the Jetstream. But I'm not sure if I would get the data plan, or buy it at full retail price (and use it as a WiFi-only device).
Obviously, what you feel about the price depends a whole lot on your financial situation and personal budget. For me, spending a couple extra hundred bucks for something I really want is reasonable. I have a personal soft spot for HTC devices. For me, devices made by other manufacturers really tend to not compare to HTC's build quality. For that, I would happily pay extra. That's the philosophy I had when buying the Flyer. There are plenty of cheaper 7" tablets around. But its not necessarily a good "value" if you save some money on a tablet, but don't really like the device you bought. But of course, a lot of this depends on personal preferences, as well.
And yes, I don't even own this device, but I'm still poking around this subforum out of envy!
Hey guys I'm seriously considering purchasing it but I live in India but that can be taken care of as the US mail forwarding service I use also has a BuyForMe sub-service where they buy the product for me... but in this case since at&t requires a SSN for the compulsory cancel-anytime data plan with the no-contract offering of this tablet, I'm having a tough time getting my hands on this awesome-elegant HTC
tab. So my questions are-
1) Will the developer community at any point in time work on getting it SIM unlocked? Or is it better to wait for a version that will not be bound to AT&T?
2) If any of my dear fellow members will be so kind so as help me somehow (read: above) with getting my hands on this beauty? Can you use a friends' SSN to buy a thing for yourself?

Nice to be an american with AT&T LTE dataplan! In russia this thing will cost at least 2000$ (after a couple of weeks of sales) and will be available in 4-6 months...
If anyone can help me with a little explanation, on how to actually buy it without dataplan (since no commitment also includes some kind of plan) and registration, i would really appreciate.
Several things this device lacks at the moment - SIM unlock, voice calls capability and S-OFF...
Give it a.little time Grayhardt.
Hi everyone !
I am planning to buy a 7" tablet on this beginning on 2012 (HNY).
My usage for a 7" will be essentially Internet, GPS, and some Games.
Now that it has Honeycomb, i am preferring the HTC Flyer over the Acer Iconia Tab A100,
Cause the Flyer got a better design, better screen, and moar storage (despite the fact that the Acer is more powerful with the Tegra 2).
The prices for the HTC Flyer here in France are 299€ for the 16GB WIFI Only and 380-400€ for the 32GB WIFI+3G.
So my questions are :
_ Does the Flyer worth that money ?
_ Will the Flyer become obsolete soon cause of it's Single Core CPU or it stills have good time to live ?
_ Does it worth to wait for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which is more expansive than the Flyer ?
Thank you for your answers
I am in India and a bought 3g+WiFi model for $400 ( euro 300 ) with scribe pen. In us also it was sold dirt cheap recently at bestbuy. The price in your country seems to a bit high.
Though its a very good tablet, I would say look for it for about at euro 300 for a 3g version. Then you can't go wrong.

1. around the same price as in australia...i had a wifi only tablet and it turned out to be pretty useless to me, so i 'upgraded' my 10" transformer to the 7" flyer...if you can afford the 3G version, get it
2. best purchase ever...i love it
3. all devices are obsolete within 6 months of being released
4. lol @ samsung...noooo comparison between HTC and samsung devices, i don't care what the specs say! and do you mean expAnsive, as in better, or expEnsive, as in it costs more? (doesn't matter really, my answer is still the same)

That's pricing for you in Europe, we always pay more than the rest of the world (except Australia...)
And €300 for a 3G version, I think you'd have to look second-hand, and even then I think it'll be difficult.
For the OP: I have a 16GB Wifi-only. And I was also first thinking about the Acer, but they took too long to come to market here. In the end, I just couldn't wait and shelved out a bit more (I paid a total of around €350, and that included two silicon protectors, a folder case, a screenprotector and a car charger) and I've been very happy ever since. Even with GB (which, I must admit, now that I have HC, I still like better... But for the pen-support in HC, I'd go back).
Edit:
oh and about 3G vs wifi-only: 3G is no use to me, as I don't want to pay premium for a 3G subscription or data-plan... I like my very cheap call/text subscription...

I thought this article was interesting, but there's no mention of the possibility that people don't buy Motorola phones because of the software. Could you imagine if Dell released a beautiful sleek and light PC, with impressive specs and solid hardware, but it was locked down to running only Windows 98? Because that is effectively what Motorola is doing, and I think, in large part is why they are struggling.
comScore’s August market share report showed Android gaining ground among US mobile subscribers at a healthy clip. In the three months ending in August, Android share among US smartphones ticked up to 52.9% from 50.9% in the period ending in May. But yet again, Motorola’s share slipped — down to 11.2% from 12% in the spring period.
This is not a new trend — but it is particularly puzzling considering that the iPhone 4S faded during the summer and Motorola had launched some well-reviewed, technologically impressive models that ramped up to full volume production over the summer. The DROID RAZR MAXX may be a crime against English language, but it was also a commanding summer blockbuster for Verizon. As a matter of fact, it may still be outselling Samsung (005930) Galaxy S III at Verizon (VZ) during October. The new RAZR MAXX M also looks like a solid success. Motorola has been extremely effective at eclipsing HTC in the Verizon mid-range and high-end portfolio.
But that’s the thing. While Motorola’s Verizon traction is impressive, the brand is astoundingly weak at Sprint (S) and AT&T (T), where it used to be a staple. Motorola’s decision to hand Verizon its most impressive flagship phones cemented its position with the Big Red. At the same time, the second-string models for other carriers are fizzling badly. The Atrix series never really recovered from its 2011 stumbles and is doing merely OK at AT&T. The QWERTY models Photon Q and Admiral are disasters at Sprint.
This is really odd, because Motorola has a deep history with QWERTY devices and had a couple of substantial hits in this category a few years back. Now the QWERTY leader RIM is collapsing in America and another niche rival, LG, is also stumbling badly. But the Motorola Admiral is getting beaten by weak-as-kitten rivals like Pantech and Blackberry Torch. This is remarkable – particularly since Motorola has decent QWERTY traction in some emerging markets like Brazil.
It is rare to see a brand doing so well with its flagship phone while foundering this badly with the rest of its slate. Motorola has essentially been in this jam for two years. But the danger it poses to the vendor is becoming acute as Samsung sucks up more and more of the oxygen in the mid-range Android market. 2012 was the year when Motorola really should have been able to capitalize on RIM’s implosion in North America. Instead, Motorola’s QWERTY model slate actually looks weaker than it was in 2009.
Motorola needs to rethink its AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile strategies right now — or the threat of Samsung, LG, Huawei, ZTE and Pantech simply shoving it aside will become acute in 2013. And T-Mobile’s acquisition of MetroPCS will not make things easier for Moto; the pre-paid specialist has particularly strong relationships with the Chinese challenger brands.

I agree that software plays a role. But, I think that the more important reason is that the hardware just is not sexy enough. Motorola's hardware is not up to the spec monsters that consumers come to expect.
However, the same may be said of Samsung. Historically, Samsung has had a strong showing with its flagship phone, whether it be the SII or the newer SIII, and the Note.
Were Motorola were to invest in developing sexier hardware--I am not a fan of the cut-off corner look of the droid line--I think it would be a real contender. Consumers expect large, bright screens in an obnoxiously flat form factor. Samsung has surpassed Motorola on this front.
