LG G5 Always On Display

Hi all,
The LG G5 stock rom has a feature called always on display. I wanted to know how it worked because Sammy uses AMOLED displays which only lights the pixels it needs and uses very little battery. LG claims that the always on display only uses 0.8% per hour. Is the entire display backlit or does it only light a certain portion of the screen for the always on display? Also for people who have the stock rom, how much battery does the always on display drain(especially since it has a 2800 mah battery).
When I was still on stock the AOD used roughly 1% per hour. No idea how exactly it works though
The entire screen is backlit. This is an IPS screen not AMOLED.

True. But how does it drain 1% per hour. If you get an always on app from the play store and try it out an a phone with a LCD display with minimum brightness it drains 4% per hour.

Xperia 1 Battery life

Hi,
Been using the Xperia 1 for 2 weeks,
the battery time is quite short for me.
I do most whatsapp, youtube
start working at 9am and around 2pm the phone is around 30ish %
I don't like using Stamina mode (the balance saving version), because i like the always on display (ambient display)
the power saving mode will save more battery however it will make the scrolling chopping which i hate the most
anyways, any bro out there been playing with the "background process limit"
the default is set as standard limit, if i reduce it to 2, will it really save battery or will make the phone not running properly.
or any other hint to save battery throughout a day like 9am to 9pm?
Display is always set to adaptive.
Wifi always on, in the working 9 hours will have over 6 hours with WIFI connection.
Battery life is awesome! Never had this before with a sony phone...
5 hours sot and still 30%
Be sure to use the "adaptive battery" thingy, seems usefull.

Thanks and it is already turned on.
My previous phones were Huawei P20 and Mate 20 pro, can't compare to those.
So i compare with my more previous phones which i still own, the Samsung S8+
battery life is even less.
Is there a way to reduce the screen resolution? I know it is a bad move buying a 4k phone and reduce the resolution but i just want to see if it will help.
My other phones would allow me to select 1080 or 1440, but i don't see this option in Xperia 1

Phones mostly in 1080 so reducing it further won't make much difference to battery
Smartcleaner should be turned off. This causes the drain of battery.
I experienced a noticeable increase in battery life with Creator Mode disabled...
It fits me just right because you can't use Creator Mode an Night Light at the same time, and I use Night Light all the time...
Also, Always On Display uses a lot of battery...

So you mean choosing standard mode and "auto creator mode" turned off?
I also notice always on display will drain the battery a lot so I disabled it too. When it is plugged in to the power the always on display will be displayed anyways
This phone is a battery champ, Sony has always impressed me.

Yes This phone has very good autonomy with 4000 mah would have shattered competition.
With only 3300 mah and the best market display, the autonomy it has is incredible

I turned off Smart camera launch and get much better battery life. Who uses Smart camera launch when you have Camera button that is quicker for launching camera.

TIP. how to get 12h SOT

After 1 week of use and compare of some settings -->
1. Don't use dark mode in OS or app settings.
Reason: it will not save any power on LCD display but you will have to increase the Backpanel light to be able to read everything.
2. Disable 120Hz setting for now.
Reason: I am not sure if it is a bug but my display stays at 120Hz...all the time (except running YouTube with 60Hz). Even if I don't touch the screen at all.
You can check the actual fps in Developer options - power monitor.
Results: 2h game playing, whatsapp, spotify and browser usage...I have 6h SOT and still more then 50% battery left.
I wasn't able to get 6h SOT on my OnePlus 6 at all
Info: I didn't use plane mode over night. Wifi was active all the time.
Bloatware is removed and using AD blocker.
I have that sot with 120hz, I don't think it makes much of a difference . I use 60 only when traveling
Same settings ofc. Wifi all the time. But I use videoconference software
One more: use samsung browser which is known to use less battery
Also use nightmode slider to set brightness correctly (maximum here) otherwise you might end using more brightness on low light because nightmode brightness is too low
+1 on the other things
You can get rid of most of miui bloatware apps.
It will probably help with battery
whats the point of buying a 120hz display if you have to disable it?

Prisoner without USB cable?
Kidding. Everything is fine meanwhile. All kind of features are enabled. Also 120hz. The battery is banana. Positively surprised from this midrange mobile after using flagships for years.

Question What's good, what's bad???

So I'm thinking of buying the P6, there's a good deal on amazon for 529€.
So ppl who have used it what do u like about it and what not???
The only real annoyances I've encountered are the fingerprint reader occasionally not reading my fingerprint and the connectivity toggle in Android 12. The latter I fixed by rooting and installing Better Internet Tiles from the Play Store. The former? I deal with it for now, but I do think after taking the July update I'll set my fingerprints up again.
I have some issue with multitasking. Sometimes I can't do a gesture to active multitasking. It's happening twice per day. June update din't solved it. It's really anoying.

Most noticable annoyances for me are the slow fingerprint reader, the camera app taking like 5 seconds to switch between photo and video (idk if this happens to other p6s but it made me miss a lot of great shots) and no face unlock.
What's good
- pure Android without bloatware
- very good photos
- Material Me (it is a gimmick but I like it)
- flat screen with deep blacks
What's bad
- charging slow compared to my previous phone (Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra)? Not on par with competition on this criteria
What's neither good neither bad
- fingerprint reader : I don't have any problem, it works as my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra but not as fast as my Galaxy tab S8
- screen brighrness, I have no problem reading it even in sunlight, but I have seen brighter (my Galaxy tab S8)
- battery life. I have 10h SOT, 34h overall. More than enough for one day, but not enough for 2 days
Overall, I like this phone a lot, more than my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra even if it is far cheaper.

Slow charging is probably due to optimized charging being checked. It will slowly charge overnight and will be at 100% just before your alarm is set to go off. At least that's how it's supposed to work. Didn't work on my wife's pixel 6 so we disabled it.

With my previous Xiaomi mi 11 Ultra, I could charge from 0 to 80% in less than 30mn and to 100% in less than 45mn. I am sure there are no Pixel 6 settings that could allow that.
Slow charging? It does 30W USB PD/21W Wireless.. that's roughly 66% in 1h. Sure the Mi Ultra 11 charges at 65W+ but its also a Li-Po battery, while P6 uses the more common Li-Ion. Li-Po batteries have a shorter life-cycle and charging at 65W+ will degrade its life-span even faster.
I plug my phone in for 30mins and I get 30-40% battery which is a more than enough charge to get me through whatever for the day. Though only time I actually ever have needed to plug my phone in to get me through the day is when I play games on it for a while.
The fingerprint reader is slow but it has dramatically improved since release. It was annoyingly slow at launch, now I don't even notice the lag.
Iv'e had some wierd restarts at the start an update fixed the issue and now everything is good

Question Battery life - I'm lovin it!

So, day one, regular use for me, at 50% after nearly 9 hours! Thats a record for a Samsung device, for me.
Not sure mate how your, but my is completely disappointed, pixel 7 pro has 8h+ on display S23U hardly has 7.5h+
Not sure if just my usage is more hardly use but battery or maybe setup is different for me.
All turn on (mobile data, Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, location, Nfc, adaptive motion, wqhd+)
3 hours on Spotify with Bluetooth speaker.
Yes I use phone for my work so most day on it.

I not have issue on pixel great battery etc just few thing piss me off on pixels and for work spen is priceless for me.

That's probably "good" (?) for the S23U, especially if not optimized. All Samsung's should be optimized for best battery life and performance. Either by Package Disabler or adb edits.
Even with a degraded battery that due to be replaced I'm getting 8 hours or so on an optimized* N10+; easily over 12 hours SOT on a new battery. Samsung's stock solution has been to use a bigger battery since the N20U, with progressively worse SOT per mAh in spite of what should be more efficient SOCs and ram... and now no expandable storage.
*unoptimized the N10+ was a hot running hog that got 6.5 hrs SOT. Optimizing nearly doubled the SOT as significantly increased the screen off time as well. Backup Transport was a major perpetrator.
I got 19 hours on day one. Today I'm at 43% after just under 10 hours with just under 4 hours screen on time

N10+, screen off, cell/internet service on with AOD set to tap on, I use less than .5%@hr.
With good battery I use a total of 6-7% browsing with Brave, again with a good battery. Display manual brightness of 30-40%
With a degraded battery which is at replacement time this is what I'm getting, most of which is watching utube vids.
No 5G or variable refresh rate display, power set to optimized. This is with a less efficient ram and presumably SOC. More significantly much less mAh capacity.

You must have had a golden sample SoC in the 7 Pro to get that kind of battery. 99% of us didn't and don't see that.

For P7P, I find it varies wildly by ROM. Stock is a good middle ground, I think the best so far for me have been the AOSP-based ones with Gapps.

I was about to comment the same. I never got that kind of SOT on the pixel 7 pro after three months of having the device max would be 5 1/2 probably six squeezing everybit of juice. Good device but for battery the s23 ultra is giving me way more for the same usage no optimization.
I think by enabling the light performance profile, the device becomes a battery champion

Yeah I will say the February beta has had me going 39h off the charger with 5h SoT but that's largely been on wifi. I know from messing with my OnePlus 9 that it doesn't *have* to be super draining on LTE but I've taken the Pixel out on a day's outing and had it lose 50% in 3 hours on LTE/5G.
I've "upgraded" from the Fold4 in the hope that battery life would be much better. I'm blown away by how long this thing lasts!

SoC upgraded with a better power-efficiency, far smaller screen surface to power and also 600mha more on the battery. An other outcome would have been surprising.

Whole heartedly agree. My usage on the Fold4 - I hardly used the internal screen (I know, I know!). Comparing external screen use alone, this thing wins night and day. Surprising in some ways because of the resolution and pixels being driven vs the fold4 external display, but as you say, more efficient SoC coupled with a slightly larger battery must be working its magic.
Standby drain overnight is something else I've noticed as being much better too.
Early days, but I would charge my fold4 sometimes as much as 3 times throughout the day. This thing comfortably lasts a full day with many hours of screen on time and has battery left to spare. Amazing efficiency gains considering the short time frame between the two SoC's.
Mine is still optimization but so far looks good. Day 2 of use. Far better than my S22U exynos.

Second full day of usage, include setup cameras and work
Again 3 hours on Spotify +Bluetooth speaker, all turn on GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi, 5G + WiFi etc it's little better then yesterday around 8h+ on display still has 6% left.
Hope will possible on my use 9h+ on display.

Nop, I got problem on pixel 6 pro Thst was big issue and charge phone 3 times a day but pixel 7pro its really similar battery like S23U right now.
It was 8h+ on display and all turn on and max resolution.
Big issue is on Bluetooth wasn't work with my huawei watch 3 pro they block it.
Not sure maybe is my phone some premium to have that but I seen better then my also.
Latest. Everything max. Bluetooth and location on all time. Poor cell reception at work. Streaming radio on commute. So impressed with this. It blows the 22 exynos away.

I mean I guess if I use my 7 Pro straight through I can get 8 hours pretty easily as my average screen on usage is 8%/hr but the standby time is awful, like 2% drain per hour. This is all on wifi too. If I am on mobile network, I'm looking at 12-15%/hr screen on and 3-4.5% standby drain. I can't wait to have the more efficient modem in the S23U.
