Today I (very briefly) spotted a new icon in my status bar.
It looked like a little person icon (head and shoulder, silhouette kind of thing) with sound waves on the right (like WiFi signal but horizontal).
It was only there for a second so I wasn't able to get a screenshot but will definitely try if i see it again.
I haven't come across this icon in the 8 or so years that I've been using android and I can't think of any obvious app that it would be for.
I haven't installed any apps in the last week or so either.
If it helps, I was on my Galaxy Note 9 on Oreo (8.1.0 / Samsung Experience 9.5), it is rooted (Magisk) and has Xposed installed.
Any help identifying this icon is greatly appreciated and I'll update if I manage to get a screenshot.

New Xposed Mod: Smart Alarm Icon
This mod will change the alarm icon in status bar to be only displayed for a configurable time before alarm will go off. This for example will remove the icon on Friday and Saturday if the alarm is scheduled for working days only. The threshold for when the icon gets shown is configurable via UI.
=> This makes the alarm icon more valuable again, since if shown permanently one gets used to it quite fast.
Limitations
Works on HTC and Samsung stock-based ROMs version 4.0.3 and higher (permanently hides the icon on other devices)
You MUST accept that you use any modification at your own risk
If you want to try it, follow these steps:
If not done yet or included in your custom ROM, install the Xposed framework as described in this thread (requires root)
Install the attached APK and activate the module in the Xposed installer (this is also described in the framework thread)
Reboot
To change settings, tap on the module in Xposed installer
ChangeLog
Code:
[B]1.2[/B]
- Samsung ROMs now fully supported
[B]1.1[/B] (392 dloads)
- Preferences now include "show never" (slider left) and "show always" (slider right)
- Removed "active" checkbox (now configured with slider)
[B]1.0[/B] (86 dloads)
- Initial release
Hope you enjoy and let me know. Great thanks go to rovo89 for this fabulous framework.
My Other Xposed Mods
All HTC and Samsung ROMs Android 4.0.3 and above
Smart Alarm Icon

All HTC Sense 5 ROMs
BlinkFeed Back To Top
Enables the back button in BlinkFeed to fast scroll to top
All HTC ROMs Android 4.0.3 and above
Custom Status Bar Opacity
Easily configure the opacity of the status bar when it is transparent in lock screen and launcher

Nice idea, good to see more Xposed framework stuff for the m7.

Glad to hear. May I ask which phone and ROM you're running exactly?

Probably yes. I don't have my hands on any AT&T/Rogers ROM, on which NFC icon it is reported to show up. Furthermore, I'm not using NFC at all, so I'm afraid it makes no sense for me modding this. I suggest keeping an eye on trixx's TrickDroid thread, his ROM at least supports AT&T models - maybe he's willing to include this at some point

Dev edition, stock but rooted. With the Xposed framework now, I find I can get the tweaks/mods I want without even needing a different ROM.
1.29 rogers stock Rom here and everything is perfect. Xposed is so good it's almost sexual...

Cool thanks man being waiting for someone to get rid of that works great
Thanks, working fine on TrickDroid 5.3.0
Thanks!
Dude. I didn't bother looking around to see if anybody had tried this on a GS3 (yeah I know wrong thread) but this is awesome. I absolutely HATE the stupid icon up there all frackin day when my alarm isn't until the morning. So far works great on my sprint GS3. Thanks!
Beautiful.

Has work great on my note 2, but really it should work on any device as long as you have xposed installed. Would be great to hide other icons as well.

Works fine here too. Thanks!
it works partially for me on my note 2.
hiding permanently works.
but if I set the icon to be visible again it stays hidden.
is there a delay in this, or is it a bug?
it's not a disaster if it's a bug though, I wanted the icon gone permanently anyway.

Thanks for your feedback. I updated to v1.2, which fully support Samsung ROMs now. v1.1 had the limitation that threshold was only working on HTC ROMs. On none-HTC/Samsung ROMs it will keep on hiding the icon permanently.
it's working perfectly now.
I have been searching high and low to get rid of that icon on JB. Thank you for freeing up some space on my status bar!
Tested on Nexus 4 and it works perfectly, Running vanilla Android 4.2.2, so it's not just limited to Samsung/HTC roms it seems.:good:

Thank you for this information. Wondering which clock app is installed / comes shipped on your device? Since only HTC and Samsung alarm settings and changes are handled, it should only hide (not auto-show) the icon on vanilla ROMs.
hey guys,
just moved over to the htc one from the nexus 4 and loving it so far - so much better. BUT few gripes I was hoping to get some help on. is there any way to change the status bar icons? What I liked about nexus 4's status bar:
- changes color based on connection. e.g. if bluetooth is on it's grey, if bluetooth is connected its blue
- same with wifi / 3g - grey if connecting, blue if connected
- only one icon for signal and connection (hspa / 3g). htc one shows two icons - one for signal strength one for up/down/connectoin type. I don't need so much info.
any help much appreciated?

Sounds like you want to get back on AOSP. Look in the Original Development section - there are a few AOSP builds. I'm not sure where they are on working out the kinks though.
I would check out Xposed framework for the One. There Ida nice application made for the One that can assist with some of these requests.
Also inside the At&t HTC One dev section there are mods to remove the Att network icons and give you the international look and accuracy.

Hello guys just want to share a little apk with you.
You know the gap on the sides of notification panel/drop down menu do you want to remove it so yes just install the attached apk and its done you can uninstall it any time without problems add ''settings application'' i tested on my own GALAXY S5 (SM-G900F).
Its not a modded notification panel or something like that its just an add to the original notification panel you will keep every thing stock with a apk.
I dont know if its working on other variant of the GALAXY S5 so be warned!!
Its working from 5.1.1 and up
Have fun
Source code?
Nice mod, I know what you're talking about but on Android 6.0.1 is fixed or what ? I don't have this notification panel gap on Marshmallow...but I've seen it at some other versions lol
Works on Android 5.0. You should put it as works on Android 5.0 and up.
Strangely it doesn't work on the Note 4 running Android 5.1.1.
Hello xda-people!
I have just one simple question.
I bought this phone like 2 months ago and sold it like a week later, because I couldnt handle not showing notifications because of the notch.
It was like "show for 3 secs and then show the clock again"
I kinda hated that, although I think the phone is just good for 260€.
My question now:
Is that fixed? If so, how's it now?
P.S.
I want to stay on MIUI, since I really like it.
Thanks!
EDIT:
Touch issues and stuff like that still persistent?
Any other issues?
Still not fixed, another feature brought to you by the flagship of compromises.
Never settle bro
Not as of now, but seems they do plan to make it better. Just note that I'm using a notification mod and it works so well. You can check xda for the link and steps if you still plan to purchase the phone again

Suggest u to buy Lenovo z5 pro gt.
2. Notification dismissed from status bar, expect to keep notification showing in status bar
As the space in status bar is limited for POCO and POCOPHONE, after testing with a group of beta users we picked below 2 solutions:
Keep AM/PM status and a notification indicator when there are unread notifications;
Remove AM/PM status so we could put more notification icons in status bar
Feel free to share us your preference.

As you'd all know, we value the little space we have for other important notification icons in the status bar! Mainly due to the lack of psychical screen space from the notch design...
I have been searching high and low to find a solution to hide/relocate/modify these 2 icons which seem to be permanent? Has anyone had success with with this?
Methods I have tried, but have not succeeded ;
- SystemUI tuner app to hide status bar icons
- Made sure I have VoLTE turned off in mobile networks
- Unchecked the "Display in status bar" in *Settings>Notifications>Call Management>VoLTE calls*
Worth noting I've tried restarting the phone after each attempted method and the icons still remain. Also I'm currently on the .208 firmware, with Optus Australia.
I went through the same steps as you did, with the same disappointing results.
No can do.
I saw someone mentioned in another thread that there is a thread on XDA on removing notification icons by ADB.
I'm still trying to find it.

No bueno
I don't know if Huawei software engineers are somewhat disconnected from the hardware design team, but the notifications in general are absurdly broken on this phone. Combine absolute hijacking of 'notch space' with an AOD implementation that preschool children could improve using Roblox... I love this phone but I surrrrrrrrrrrrrrre wish we had full root and some spankin' hot romzez to throw at it.
Settings/Wireless & networks/ Mobile network/ VoLTE calls turn it to disable

I agree. Have your tried using system ui tuner to hide status bar icons? I hide all of them via immersive mode. But I believe you can also disable individual ones.

did anyone ever manage to get rid of the Volte icon in the status bar? Its only appeared on my P20 Pro since the EMUI update. I don't have Volte settings on my phone to disable. I have tried SystemUI Tuner and tried the ADB commands above and nothing works
Volte icon
Same here, just had the upgrade to my p20 pro and I can't disable or turn it off since the option doesn't exist for me.
It's the most annoying thing for me at the moment. I managed to remove some icons with System UI Tuner app but not the volte icon, the worst thing about it is it's not permanently there, it appears regularly depending on my signal level so it gives the impression a notification has arrived.
There must be a way of removing it with ADB or System UI Tuner app, it's just a matter of finding its given name on the system.
