Well, this is my story.
All the sensors on my Mate 10 ALP-L29 EMUI 9.0.0 Android 9.0.0.195(C636E2R1P12) stopped working.
I was watching a video on Youtube, device flat on my desk on landscape mode (with auto-rotate on). Suddenly, without prior warning or message, the screen reset itself to portrait mode. Weird, my first thought. I picked it up and wiggle it a little to put it back to landscape. Nothing. Ok, let's restart this baby. Normal restart, nothing. Started to worry. I proceeded to turn it off completely, wait a few minutes, and turn it back on. NOTHING. There was no way to make auto-rotate work again. I watched a couple of videos on landscape, using the full screen feature on Youtube and VLC player. and theeeen.. the screen went dark. Well, not dark, but very very low in brightness. I fumbled a little until I found the brightness slider and brought it back up. To my surprise, the toggle for auto-brightness was gone, like.. physically gone!! Just the slider remains. It's not even on settings any more, gone along with the motion controls toggles like Lift to Answer and Face Down to Silence. And then a call came in. I lift it to my ear.. and the screen never turned off.. the proximity sensor was gone too!! I download a sensor app from the Play Store.. and the results were obvious. Orientation, gravity, linear acceleration, rotation vector, step counter, proximity and light sensor all return zero at value. Zilch. Nada.
That same night I backed up everything and performed a Factory Reset. Nothing extraordinary during it, so I set up everything again (Google account and such) and NOTHING. Still unresponsive.
I received the Pie Update via HISuite mid-january.. and everything was working fine up until a couple of days ago. There was no other update during this time nor I installed any app apart from a game from Rovio, but not on the brink of the event, much earlier, like 24 hrs at least. The phone has not been dropped, gotten wet or received any physical stress. All the functions that I have not mentioned (Calls, WiFi, Bluetooth, Compass, Speakers) are working properly.
Any thoughts???

It should be that your mobile phone motherboard is out of order. You can go to Huawei Service Center for maintenance.

I wish it could be that easy. I live in Mexico. No Huawei Service Centers for miles... and the warranty is only valid in China, but I have to pay international shipping.. and wait about 2 months for repairs.. It's a complete disaster.

Yes, I already checked.. The nearest me is a 14 hour bus ride to a mailing center, from where they will send the device elsewhere and I'll get it back in 6 to 8 weeks.. if.. and only if.. they find the problem. Thanks for the sugestion tho.
In other news:
EVERYTHING IS WORKING AGAIN. Just out of nowhere, as when they went away, they came back. Even the auto-brightness toggle reappeared. What I didn't knew is that the software adapted itself on-the-go to the hardware. You have a sensor, you have the configuration option, the sensor is gone, the configuration too.
This is baffling to say the least. And I'm not getting my hopes up.. maybe it's temporary too...

Hi everyone,
funny thing happened to my Mozart. Whenever I make a call the screen shuts off like it should, but it doesn't turn on again when i remove it from my ear until the call has ended.
Which works fine if the other person hangs up, but it means I can't hang up. Whenever I reach a voicemail i have to take out the battery to hang up!
First i thought it was a rom issue, i had just gotten my hands on the mango beta when i first noticed it. I thought it might be buggy.
But the problem remains after hard reset and flashing with a different rom (pre-nodo & nodo).
I found out that the sensor still works. The screen is reactivated when i shine a bright light (halogen spot or so) onto it - but only for as long as the source shines onto the sensor, else the screen shuts off again. wierdly enough, direct sunlight doesnt seem to be enough to trigger it anymore.
since i upgraded my phone with a 32GB microSD I guess I'm not eligible for warranty, huh? but im pretty sure it happen long after and i didn't accidently break something while opening the phone.
very weird... any ideas?
I had this problem on the weekend.
I removed the matt screenGUARD, and the problem disapeared.
Also you can reactivate the screen by pressing the on/off button...
thanks for your comments.
unfortunately, I don't use a screen protector and the standby-button doesn't work during a call
I have this problem also, with stock 7392 rom. The sensor seems to work when dialing, but stops a short time after a call is connected.
The power button works for me to turn the screen back on however...
Where is the proximity sensor ?
where on the device is the proximity sensor located?
I have been having difficulty with the screen not switching on during phonecalls and I have to remove battery to end outgoing calls. Pressing the power button doesn't help either. I don't have a screenguard to remove.
The problem started not long after, but not immediately after my daughter dropped the phone down the toilet. It took a few days for the phone to gently dry out and it worked again except for some residual water between the screen and the glass.

The sensor is about 1 cm to the top and right of the htc logo. It's barely visible and it is dark violet. (Or something like that, I am not very good at naming colours.)
Anyway, I sometimes also experience problems with sensitivity with HTC Mozart, mostly during calls, especially when the proximity sensor has been activated. Sometimes the home button freezes after a call... It's a bit annoying.
I have had my Verizon Note 2 for about a month now, and about 2 days ago i read that the processor has Vulnerabilities and mailware problems samusing is trying to fix but about a week ago i went to use my quick glance and my direct call and it wasnt working and when someone calls me i put it up to my ear the screen goes black as it should but then its stuck at the black screen i hit all the buttons cant get to the phone call if i wanted to put it on speaker or even just check a txt message i cant do anything until that person hangs up. The only way i am able to check my txt messages and stuff while on the phone is if i dont put it up to my ear.. so i restarted phone as we all would assume this would fix it well it didnt, so then i did a Factory reset thinking that would just put it back to complete stock and fix it well turns out that didnt work. My phone has never been rooted or anything and never will be. Im running Android 4.1.1 If anyone has any idea how i can fix this it would be gladly appreciated i love the motion features. Also i did the Gyroscope calibration and it didn't make any difference, my proximity sensor is on and glowing red just doesnt work like i said.
Thanks, Stephen

That exploit that you are referring to has nothing to do with your issue... And the proximity sensor does not light up as that is the LED notification light. I have this issue from time to time too and it's just that the sensor is not doing it's job properly but if you just simply hit the home button or power button real quick the screen will turn on. Other than that you may want to check some of your settings... Turn off your "motion" settings and see if that takes care of your issue then find out which one is causing the problem...
The quick glance used to work without any problems at all and i liked that, then all of a sudden one day it just decides not to work and it hasn't worked in a week now, i turned my motion off and when im in a phone call it still locked up at the phone screen i cant do anything until they hang up ive gone through the settings multiple times and nothing, i think imma go to verizon today and ***** about it

Ya something does not sound right... Do you have a screen protector on your Note 2 that is covering the sensors?

No screen protector or anything no case either, my girlfriend yanked the battery while it was on one day idk if that has anything to do with it or not cause after that happened seemed like it didn't work

actually the proximity sensor DOES light up, it's a very faint red light and it's the left one of the two little holes to the _right_ of the phone speaker, the notification LED is on the left of the phone speaker. This light turns on when in a phone call to indicate that the sensor has been activated.
My heart sensor and the pedometer and the light sensor stop working all together after sometime. Even the auto screen brightness stops working. But all apps and phone calls work. I am using Sprint and my gear is paired with my Note II. Can anyone help on this I hate having to reboot the watch ever time I want to take my heart rate. And auto screen brightness stops working.
From the dial screen, type *#0*#, you will get to the hardware diagnostic screen for the gear S, select sensors, run the test for those sensors you have an issue with. You may also try *#7353# to execute some self test.
All the sensors are unresponsive with the test codes you give me. If I reboot the watch and do the codes again it works fine. Seems to freeze after I receive a notification. Seems to be a software problem. I just wanted to know if anyone else is having this problem.
At least yours works with a reboot. I have been using mine since I bought it from best buy in early March. Yesterday I noticed during a trail run that my screen would not wake and my steps were not being counted. I rebooted several times and did a full reset of the device. Luckily Best Buy honored the 1 year warranty and let me exchange. I'm really concerned about this happening because I just got it a couple months ago and had hardware problems without ever mishandling my watch. I sure hope I don't have to constantly exchange it every few months.
I have the same problem since the last software update. I have bought my Gs directly from a Samsung store. You resolved your issue?
I haven't run across this issue since exchanging it. However I had two additional exchanges since then due to screen flickering and another time my screen started going black.
Hey xda-community,
i've registered, because i have a strange problem with my LG G5 (H850) European Edition. If this is of any use, it's the Vodafone-Edition. Sorry for my language, i'm not a native speaker .
I got my G5 yesterday and was really pleased with the build quality (i was afraid, i was about the get some of those flawed devices as seen on the internet) and the raw power of the whole package. At first i didn't notice but then i realized, that the automatic brightness didn't work. Then i noticed, while having a conversation, that the display was'nt turned down. Up to this point it sounds like the known bug.
What i think (and please, push me into the right direction if i'm wrong - i'd love to take the shame not beeing able to look properly) makes the difference is, that after installing several sensor test apps from playstore, i always got the information, that both sensors are missing.
I took a trip into service menu and tried to calibrate (or better so say, to see if there was any sign of them) those sensors, but nothing happened. No reaction while covering the area where they are supposed to be, nothing.
Firmware is v10c-262-02. Tried to reset the phone and check while having nothing installed - same problem. I tried safe mode - same problem. I can check autobrightness but it doesn't have any effect whatsoever.
What really makes me shake my head is, that when i'm called and i turn the the display downwards to stop the sound, it works after 2 up to 3 times trying to cover the display.
I'd hate to send it in - maybe i'm just too stupid to look for answers, i'd really appreciate any efforts to help.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Hey there,
short follow up to the problem. Yesterday evening i got a notification about an firmware update and wanted to install it. After hitting the proceed button nothing happened. Nothing. No installation, nada. I shook my head, deceided to return the damn brick and forgot about it. After an hour i noticed that my soft keys had changed their appearance. They got smaller. I asumed a kind of silent update (? nothing is shocking me anymore concerning this phone), checked the brightness control - no change. An hour ago i wanted to unlock my phone and got no reaction. I was about to hard reset it when it unlocked. I scrolled down the notification bar to check something when i noticed that the brightness was different from my setting. I hit the auto brightness button and bazinga. It changed by itself and since then everything works like a charme. The firmware version hasn't changed. I don't have the knowledge to explain anything or to know if something like this is even possibe (something was definitly new because all those vodafone apps where there again - which i deinstalled yesterday). Okay, long story short - either i'm officially going insane or they fixed it. Don't know, don't care.
Have a nice weekend!
Update: And it's gone again. I have no idea what to do anymore. I don't know if anyone is interessted in this, but i share the info anyway...

It certainly sounds like it *might* be defective, as you say that you have tried a factory reset.
It is a strange problem you have as it only appears to happen occasionally. It also sounds quite annoying. I know it is a pain to have t return it, but it might be better to do that and have a fully functional device, than to keep on facing this problem.
Sorry not to be able to give you a more satisfactory solution.
Good luck.

Hello,
thank your very much for your reply. I agree, i think it'll be the only option i have. I'll try to do return it, it's quite easy in Germany but, nevertheless, connected to some time without a phone.
Have a nice sunday,
Nero
I have this same issue with the proximity sensor and in my case it is because of the Lifeproof case is causing this, many others with this case report the same thing. Try taking out of the case and test again - mine works fine with no case; If this still happens, with no case on, then maybe the phone

Thank you for trying to help Sensor was damaged, send it in for repair and got it back. One can be sure that it's not a matter of blocked access to the sensors when a sensor test shows, that there are no sensors.
Told about this in so many forums that i forgot to tighten the loose ends. Sorry.
Kind regards
HI All,
Had my bip for 2 weeks, all working fine until now. Major issue in that the brightness doesn’t adjust when I amend the settings and the backlight (i.e. lift wrist) function doesn’t work, the screen doesn’t light up at all, ever, even when I press the button or flick through the screen menus. Over the 2 weeks I’ve worn it constantly, washed dishes a few times otherwise just your usual day-to-day activities. Everything works apart from this which is a major issue as means the watch is only useful during the day, in dark can’t make anything out.
Can anyone help please?

Is there anything I can try to test the backlight? Whether it is the light itself or some function I may have disabled?
Can I somehow reinstall an OS on the watch itself?
I don't have any warranty or options to return as bought from someone who no longer wanted it (open box but otherwise new).
Hi,
I've got the same issue. After contacting Amazfit support, they say that my product may have a default. So I have to contact Gearbest to have another unit
Do you have any new information ?
Unfortunately not, I did contact amazfit support who told me to video the issue and send it in. I haven't had a chance and as I have no option to return, the watch is just basically gathering dust. When it worked, it worked really well but for the £ I might just purchase a mi band instead.
this seems to be caused by non official faces. put an official face back on and it works.
That didnt work for me either, tried rebooting/restoring to default, different apps on the mobile, as someone not too techy feel like exhausted all options and left disappointed the screen does not increase/decrease brightness never mind illuminate the backlight. Thanks though!
Looks like a recent issue
I got my watch already for a while. Never had any issues until now. Backlight is done after swimming. All the rest still works. Factory reset didn’t work. Adjusting brightness to its maximum neither. So anyone experience with the after sale service?
I’ve bought my watch with gearbest and am trying to send them a technical ticket
my amazfit bip backlight is not working now as well help please!
