The screen is too bright for me at night. I sleep watching streams movies or youtube on the tablet but its always been too bright even on the lowest settings. Does anyone have any ideas of what I could do to lower the brightness further?
Do you have Eye Comfort turned on? Eye Comfort works well for me (although it doesn't really dim the screen). If Eye Comfort doesn't work, there are all kinds of apps in the Play Store for that purpose (none that I think work as well as Eye Comfort).
Ive never turned eye comfort off. I honestly dont even notice a difference between it on or off.
Screen filter is a good app, easy accessible with use of a widget. I've been using it for many years to get a darker screen at bed time.

I`m very happy with my prime, and apart from the gps it seems to be without faults. But the auto contrast is really annoying. I get why it`s on in powersaving mode, but it is still there, even in performance mode. Is there any way to turn it off? I hope this can be brought to Asus`s attention.

This might be what you seeing at work. Its a new innovative technology from nvidia implented in tegra3 for further battery savings. They have another feature they added also but can't find the description on it.
" NVIDIA PRISM Display Technology - PRISM (or Pixel Rendering Intensity and Saturation Management) reduces a mobile device’s backlight power while simultaneously enhancing the pixel color to deliver the same visual quality with substantially extended battery life."
I have never had an issue like you describe... anyone else? Is it happening more in bright situations or what?
I don't have anything like this. Do you have auto brightness turned on? Could it be tied to that?

Get out of powersave mode.
I have noticed this too. On several occasions I have noticed the screen getting brighter or dimmer for no reason. I have checked and the Auto Brightness IS off. It doesn't happen all the time but I have noticed it.
I have auto brightness turned off, and I sometimes get this problem while watching certain YouTube videos. I can't think of any specific ones off hand. It's pretty annoying. I always run in balanced mode.
Same problem here.
A really simple way to see that, is set the contrast to the minimal (like when in bed ) and watch any video the luminosity will flicker a lot.
It seems that starting from 25% luminosity this effect is way less visible (even if still here).
Hmm... I've always had auto-brightness off and the display has never changed on its own.
But I usually have the brightness very low, and this may be my inability to notice these kinds of things.
Just did some testing, it's less visible when the brightness is turned up a bit, but still there. But I tried a regular movie, and I didn't notice it, but it was very obvious when watching anime. It happens in every power mode. I guess I can live with it if it's only visible when watching anime though...

I think you are talking about Tegra 3 DIDIM tecnology
and it can't be disabled on TFP
yeh, I guess that's it. I wish they would implement a way to have it disabled in performance mode at least.

I wonder if it's hardware related or software/driver related. Hopefully in future rom developers find a way how to disable it because it's really really annoying.
The best way to see it is to turn your brightness all the way down, go into a dark room, and play a YouTube video. You'll definitely see the contrast/brightness changing.

The above describes this issue perfectly. All the resets in the world will not fix it, I'm afraid. This is a "feature" of the Tegra 3 chip to increase battery life. I have been experimenting with this extensively. You will notice this much more when brightness is set low (in my case, below 20% or so). It is especially evident in large white or light grey areas of the screen. You will notice what looks like automatic readjustments of the brightness of these areas. It will appear as though the screen is the automatically increasing and decreasing brightness - and the effect is by no means subtle. Try watching a video where there is a lot of white sky. Have a look at this video:
Search for Youtube Video "St Patrick Swipe" if you wish. Set your brightness at about 10%, with auto brightness off. Ensure you are in Balanced power mode or Performance power mode (the effect is very evident in Powersave mode if you want to try that, but I guess that is to be expected). Switch the video to full screen and go to point 1:53 and watch as the two guys go through the gate and up the hill (until about 2:12). You should see the video darken and lighten noticeable (thanks to the good old grey Irish sky!).
For me, this is a show stopper. It means I cannot watch videos at lower brightness levels, when the effect is more noticeable. It also means that when browsing web pages (which have white backgrounds), I am constantly seeing this contrast readjustment and it is very annoying and distracting. I really wish I was the kind of person who notice this kind of thing, as I'm sure quite a few may not. I am returning this otherwise fantastic tablet because of it.
Yes, I know this is my first post and will probably be deleted (you guys are strict!), but I've been reading about this problem here (there are plenty of threads) and in other forums and just wanted to add my voice.
I noticed this the other day whilst watching this YouTube vid in bed with the brightnes low.

It'd be a little better if it was a subtle change, bithgening ad dimmming slowly rather than the abrupt increase/decrease in brightness. It'd be even better if it could be disabled altogether but at least I know it's not a fault with the TP and is in fact a feature.
Thanks for putting my mind at rest everyone, I'll live with the annoyance.
I also really wish this could be disabled. It is very very noticeable when watching anime. Keeps changing from bright and vibrant to dark and dull

Just a quick heads-up: In the Acer Iconia A510, also a Tegra3 tablet, this issue does NOT occur.
So it's not a hardware thing and Asus needs to fix this
Could the problem be the proximity of the light sensor near the screen? Maybe it's bleeding light into the sensor.
i myself is having this issue, and i see it constantly cause it affects my eyes alot, my eyes feel like its re adjusting to the dark and brighter setting when it happens so i notice it instantly, i really do wish that it would stop, cause its hurt my eyes at night when the screen gets brighter, i think its affected by whats being displayed on the screen, if something is really too bright, it dims it and if something is too dark it brightens it but for gaming and viewing movies that can get very annoying since movies and gaming changes scene very often.

how do I activate the eye sensor? or is it on automaticly? are there any settings about I can change?
Settings>Display>Smart stay.
Seems not to work so well for some. Almost flawless for me. YMMV.
The eye icon will only appear just before the time the screen would normally go off, this is when it looks for eyes and decides if the screen should be kept on.
I think a lot of people expect to see the icon all the time.
I have the "smart stay" enabled but it does not work for me. I have only had it for a day in in door light, so I don't know if that is the problem. I have verified that the front facing camera works by placing a Skype video call. Also, I have brown eyes.
Why do you say that it doesn't work? What the smart stay does is, after an amount of time it sees if you are look to the screen, if you are it keeps the screen on, if you are not it closes the screen.
Mine works and i also have brown eyes.
I have small eyes and it works for me
It works for me 50% of the time. It depends on the angle you hold the phone and the amount of lighting.
I don't know how it worked in the Samsung commercial that was advertising this feature given how dark the room was.
I'm always using the lowest brightness (0% or whatever it is), at stock browser there is an option to change brightness too so you can get even lowest brightness then you got...
While I'm doing that I've notice that there are some pretty invisible lines - about 2 vertical lines on the right side of the screen - while viewing white or gray page.
The more the brightness is lowest you can notice it, and the more the brightness is higher you could not see it.
Its not like the burning screen thing as I never keep the screen on too much time on the same point (and always using Live Wallpaper), I know how its look like because I had it on my Nexues One... its showing only when using lowest brightness and could see it on white or gray wallpaper (I've notice it on google search at browser)
Anyone have any idea why is it happens (again, when you make the screen brighter its gone) and is it safe to use the lowest brightness or should I avoid it and put the brightness to little bit more ?

AFAIK it is not dangerous for the display.
There are many screen filter apps available to lower the brightness even lower, and never heard someone reporting a damaged screen because of this.
Usually, your lower the brightness of the display to reduce the battery consumption for a better battery life.
If that is your aim, then try to use as black background as possible.
With dark/black screen the battery consumption of an OLED (like our AMOLED) display is lower than on light (white) background.
And you won't see the "pretty invisible lines".
maybe a burn in ...

Well, actually when I thought about it I was playing a game "Jetpack Joyride" for almost two hours continuously and played it a lot at the last days, even though the screen at the game is changed every time, the 'roof' has some constant lines, so maybe it cause the 'burn in' vertical line/s that I see.
The weird thing is that burn in looks better and 'tougher' when using higher brithness and not lower as in this case...
When I put high brightness the 'burn in' seems to dissapears.
Is it possible or its something else? [I know AMOLED screens are pretty sucks about that situations of burn in things]
Check out this picture. My HTC M8 is on the left. New S6 on right. Both turned up to full brightness. My M8 screen looks so much more vivid and colorful. Anybody else seen this issue?
Have you checked your gs6's display settings? I'm curious if this is a hardware issue on your device or if it's just one of the other profiles - make sure it's set to "adaptive".

check to make sure auto brightness did not turn off. For some reason many people, including myself, have seen the auto brightness become automatically unchecked and brightness lowered.
I too came from the M8. I have yet to decide which screen I like more. I love AMOLED blacks and colors, but the screen seems so dim (especially if you've been looking at any other screen) and the whites seem yellow.
Full brightness on recent Samsung flagships is achieved on auto brightness in full sunlight, not in the dark. If you did this outdoors at noon you'd have a different result.
Make sure auto brightness is off and adaptive display is on
I took this picture inside. Auto brightness was off. Adaptive on. No power saving mode on. I can't stand auto brightness on phones. I usually keep my screens around 85-90%. Both S6s are going back and I'm going with the M9 or Nexus 6. Way too many issues with these phones.

You must have a bad unit or power saving mode going crazy or something. I have the M8 and M9 and the edge screen is night and day brighter. Like not even in the same league brighter and more vibrant. It makes the M9 look dull and lifeless.
Yeah mine is a bad unit too. It's going back tomorrow. I've played with the power saving and all display modes. No go.

I have the M9 in my hand right now. Camera is awful and it does have heating issues. Always warm. I do like sense 7 over touchwiz but I can't handle the crappy camera. Look at the photo comparison here http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/photos-comparisons-s6-vs-t3076641

Let me know if it's any different with the new unit. If so, I may have to send mine back too.
So I grabbed a flashlight and turned on auto bright. I put the flashlight over the sensor and the screen got extremely bright. Way more than having the manual setting at it's highest level. Maybe they'll update the software so we can turn the screen up to where we want it.

I can't use Samsung's "auto" mode for brightness. Always too dim for me. I have been using Lux Auto Brightness (paid version although there is a free version you can try) for a long time and I find it does a much better job than any "auto" mode from manufacturers. I think they make it as dim as possible to help with battery stats. But it is pointless if my battery lasts twice as long and I can't see the screen LOL
Thanks. I'll try that.

Yep, just look at this image:
I really hope there's a hack that gets max brightness without auto brightness. I stay in a dark environment so it always keeps it on the lowest brightness, waaaaay too low, especially compared to my computer. I want the max brightness (I know, I know, bad for eyes, whatever), I mean, that's what the slider should do...

try lux auto brightness. You can set your values to what you want in each environment and time of day. Love it for fine tuning how my auto brightness works. The only issue with the edge is the screen does not blur when you swipe out your contacts from the edge. Hopefully they will fix that soon.
I have to keep mine at 90% or above to read the display. At 10% the screen is nearly pitch black. Is everyone else experiencing the same, or do I have a bad display?
I can use mine outside in the sun. I usually stop in shade if I can, but that's because of glare and it's hot down here.
I actually turn on "Extra Dim" at night.
Any chance Extra Dim is on?

It wasn't, but I actually like the color contrast better with it on. I'll leave this on and see if it helps with battery life.
