All Roms playing no video and having no audio - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hello,
Whenever I clean flash a rom.. All apps such as YouTube and Facebook Do not play video. It will show the video but will not play it. Also if I go to YouTube.com it will play the video but it will have no audio. I'm currently on us998 on firmware 20g. When I flash ROMs I am using the H930 one which should be compatible with us998. Any help would be appreciated. Clearing cache or reinstalling the app does not fix the issue. Thanks

You have to flash us998 e f then g before moving to aosp roms. Idk why this is. I believe it has something to do with dts and the audio changes lg made

Some also had to revert from G back to F, I think for audio to work right as the AOSP ROMs couldn't handle the most recent changes (yet).

I'm on d.Can I dirty flash e, f, and g?

Yes. Do it one at a time, reboot, let it settle, flash next one.

When you say "settle" I assume that means booting between each flash on the way to G to allow LG update process to execute. We flash and then LG flashes, ?.

I mean reboot between each one. Let it breathe, like when you turn on a computer and things settle down.
Don't stack all three in TWRP at the same time. Or don't flash consecutively in TWRP, without rebooting in between.
At least that's my personal recommendation.

Sound problem

Hello
From nothing ( no drop or whatsoever) has stopped working sound. To the headphones I´m getting no sound at all, but to the main speaker I´m getting alarms or ringtones (if you try them in settings), but no music from spotify, youtube or sound of the keyboard, or unlock phone.
I´ve tried factory reset (2x with and without backup), delete catch and nothing work to this weird it seems software problem.
Any idea?

Go back to US998 20E. Reboot, see if it's fixed. Then go to 20F, reboot. Then 20G.
Specifically, there's a lot of audio framework changes between 20E - 20G.
Going straight from 20B to 20G is difficult unless you use something like LGUP refurbish mode. So, better to do it in steps.

Since you have US998 20G, flash @TotallyAnxious Magisk mod and you'll have DTS, equalizer, and dual speaker mode with HIM:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/themes/anxiousv30-magisk-mod-t3865146
OR you can install them separately yourself:
DTS (needs DTS framework, which US998 20F and newer like 20G have)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/enable-dts-3d-stereo-lg-v30-variants-t3887139
EQUALIZER (needs DTS framework, which US998 20F and newer like 20G have)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/how-to-add-lgs-equalizer-to-hifi-quad-t3905870
For @Whiskeyomega dual speaker mode with HIM, you'll have to already have the mods saved somewhere, as currently dev has removed them from XDA. They are still in great demand, so hopefully he'll bring them back.

For Viper you'll have to ask someone else. It bypasses our Quad DAC, to my knowledge, and down samples bit rate, so I don't use it.
But you can use it if you want. Others do.

H933 / US998 conversion question.

I have a question for anyone who has converted but not converted back.
Do you think if I converted my H933 to US998 and left it then my phone would have the new DTS features?
I theorize about this because as of right now the H933 is behind the rest of the worlds kdz's and every single custom ROM I flash has random reboot issues.
I'd basically just like to be able to use custom ROMs again so do you think leaving it on US998 and then using a custom ROM will still leave the DTS features etc? ( That I believe have been causing my reboots )
Thanks for anyone who reads and responds.

Yes, converting H933 to US998 on any KDZ past 20 E (20F, 20G, 20H) will have the DTS features.

Thanks! Ultimately my carrier only allows 3G data so for people with ChatR or Freedom I don't think changing back to canadian firm has many advantages. (Yet)
While it's neat we have figured it out to a settle point. (20i kdz) I'd love to try multiple things again.
Appreciate your response and looking forward to when you guys post when H933 does actually get DTS.

To clarify, (I know you know this, but for others....) for DTS you will need US998 AFTER 20E -- like 20F, 20G, 20H. To flash in TWRP, @JohnFawkes suggests dirty flashing 20E, 20F, 20G, 20H all back-to-back in TWRP queue, then followed by Magisk. I would use Magisk 18.1. I've seen reports of 19.1 not working well with some of these TWRP-flashable zips. At least that's where the evidence points...
Once on US998 20H, then you can try updating the Magisk to 19.1...
Or you can do what others have done, flash US998 20H KDZ, reinstall TWRP, flash the no encryption, no root check files and Magisk. Your bootloader is already unlocked, so you can do that. Clean install.
However, at that point you should flash the Anxious module or do the build prop changes to get the DTS, etc. See this post:

You can flash stock rom by using lg up and kdz. Make sure you use the correct kdz file for it.
Keep in mind, KDZ flash will erase your data, so be aware of that.

Yep. If you can get some kind soul on here to extract the stock recovery and turn it into a flashable zip, then you can download it, boot to TWRP, flash it, and viola -- stock recovery.
It doesn't matter what model recovery is from -- they are all the same with the EXCEPTION of the H932. If you have an H932, you must use the H932 recovery. You won't brick your phone, but you will be flashing a KDZ if you ever want to take OTAs again. Also, if you don't have an H932, do not use the H932 recovery -- same outcome.
EDIT: if your phone is rooted, you will not be able to take OTAs (the hash check will fail). So, if it is rooted, you need to unroot it (install Magisk manager) before flashing the stock recovery and taking OTAs.

Ironic you wish to remove TWRP from your phone when for several months that's what we would have given large sums of money to have. Finally in May 2018, the WTF exploit allowed us to do that. You can root your phone, since you have TWRP and install recent TWRP-flashable zip based on stock firmware.
But if you wish to return for full stock without TWRP custom recovery, you will need to use LGUP to flash stock KDZ. And yes that requires a PC.

I'll have to let one of the Korean users answer that. I'm not an expert on the Korean models. They have to do extra step to get TWRP, root and get radio back. So if your phone works and has TWRP then at over point in was rooted with Magisk.

If you are going to keep TWRP then I won't bother, but if you want to go back to stock let me know and it just so happens I have that KDZ sitting in my archives so I don't even need to wait 40 years for lg-firmwares.com to download
Just ping me and I can make you a flashable zip that will take your phone back to stock without having to flash a KDZ.
Again, I am not going to bother right now since it sounds like you may actually want to keep your phone as is.

Sorry -- I just haven't had the time -- and it doesn't even take that long. I have a few minutes right now, let me see if I can throw something together for you.
Keep in mind, that I have no way of testing it. It won't brick your phone, but I might have a typo and it will just fail (I have a tendency to have typos ;P ).
If that happens, you will just have to tell me where it is failing, and I will fix it. *crosses fingers that I have no typos*
EDIT: I am not going to do something half assed. I am grabbing the latest firmware available on lg-firmwares (V300K21r) and going to make a FULL zip.
As long as you don't wipe data, even if you are on a lower version, you should be able to flash it and keep your data. I will flash all the partitions that usually get flashed when using a KDZ.
I should have it up in about an hour.....
EDIT2: It is up -- https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=286970
Download and flash that in TWRP. Wipe cache / dalvik. Reboot and you will be fully stock. Again, you should only lose your data if you factory reset or wipe / format data.
Enjoy,

When you say "any", please give a couple of examples.
What stock Oreo US998 firmware are you on, and did you update to it correctly?
LOS 16 and 17 , RR and US99830b Stock all of them only stuck at boot logo / animation
I refurbish us99820h then partition dl h933 10g then partition dl us99820h flash twrp then flash lineage and us99830b flashable zip and now i stay at us99820h

I don't know why you can't run LOS-16 ROMs, but did you try those AFTER you tried to flash stock Pie or before? If you had stayed on latest Oreo there should be no problems flashing LOS-16 ROMs, but once you try to flash Pie that permanently changes your phone whether you are successful or not.
Try this tip for LOS-16 ROMs:

The LOS-17 ROMs require updating to stock Pie first or it won't boot. The LOS-17 ROMs have a few problems right now... They are a work in progress, and issues will be solved, but right now not many are using as daily driver:

Bugs on Android 10 and their solution:
1. Hotspot only works on open i.e. no security
2. Wifi may or May not work for you
If it doesn't work then try:-
1. Flash oreo modem
2. If oreo modem doesn't work then use this fix: https://t.me/LGV30U/150
even both these steps may not fix the wifi for some.
3. Recent Google Maps doesn't work, use Google maps go or older google maps version like 10 or .84
4. Google chrome works only on Gapps with Webview patched like Nikgapps
5. Doesn't work on H932 yet, no workaround for that.
6. Videos don't play on some messenger apps like whatsapp on recent builds.

If you DO update to stock Pie then that degrades your ability to run LOS-16 ROMs even when you downgrade back to stock Oreo. You have to run permissive kernel for camera/flashlight and other stuff may not work. This warning is all in the Root Sticky thread, which you read -- because it's clearly linked near start of WTF Instructions.

For US998 30b stock Pie, there are 4 methods listed to get there, the main one in post #2 of the US998 30b KDZ thread and then 3 workarounds down in post #6 of that thread (two of those need TWRP). If you can't get to US998 stock Pie 30b, then you have to wait for another US998 Pie KDZ to be released. This one seems wonky.
But all this is clearly stated in the US998 Pie KDZ thread. I'm confused why you opened ANOTHER THREAD when your question is already answered in Pie KDZ thread. At least the part about being stuck on LG/ThinQ logo...
I easily upgraded my spare V30+ to stock Pie (not even signed in with my Gmail account), but on my main V30+ I am still on latest Oreo -- on purpose. I don't see any improvements in stock Pie I need at this point in time. It's the same camera, the same look to the GUI. Besides that, I'm already running rooted stock firmware, Nova launcher + wallpaper + icon pack + I have Magisk and Xposed mods set up for what I want.
Pie isn't any faster nor have better battery life than last Oreo. Once US998 Pie improves I may switch to Pie, but right now I see no need for my daily phone.

Uninstall/remove any prior version. This means also going to Programs//LG Electronics/LGUP and deleting that folder.

Well, finally I did it! Thanks a lot.
But, I hoped that choosing option "Reinstall full image KDZ as "Upgrade" will "keep your data" and it didn't.
All my data disappeared.

Strange. "Upgrade" option (not Refurbish or Partition DL) should have kept your data if flashing the same region firmware.
As per my previous post.. Upon further investigation I added Home to baterry optimization exclusions and sort of removed the issue.. I'll keep digging into it as it bothers me a lot ?
does this solution work for the V30 ThinQ?

Three different solutions.
1) Reinstall full image KDZ as "Upgrade". This will keep your data. If that doesn't work...
2) Factory Reset. This will wipe your data, but will clear everything. If that doesn't work...
3) Reinstall full image KDZ in Refurbish mode.

Hi ,
Having the same issue with my v30 thinQ. It was only a slight delay before but has gotten worse and delay is much longer. The home page does come back but takes a long time, degrading my ability to use the phone. Would I apply the same KDZ upgrade from the same post you mention. I am not a developer but have had my v30 for several years and have my home page just the way I want it and don't want to lose it. I don't have the battery saver feature on.
Thanks

Yes, why wouldn't it? This is the XDA V30 forum.
If you think "ThinQ" is some kind of special V30, it's not. That's just the silly name LG stuck on ALL V30 variants updated past Nougat.
For V30, "ThinQ" just means you are not on original Nougat, but have updated at some point to Oreo or Pie. It was supposed to denote the A.I. camera software that came with Oreo and above. The V30S variants were the first "JOAN" device to get updated to Oreo from the factory, but all V30 eventually got Oreo updates. So ALL V30 are "ThinkQ".
The post-Nougat A.I.ThinQ camera is great, another reason to NOT stay on Nougat, but still a very stupid name. Not even pronounced "ThinK" -- which would sort of make sense for Artificial intelligence, but instead LG actually pronounces it "Thin... Q".
My answer quoted above is for all V30, no matter what stock firmware they are on. You don't say what variant you have (H930DS, VS996, US998, etc), but I would suggest last Oreo (very stable) for your variant or perhaps last Pie -- but not Pie for US998. For US998 I would say stick with US998 20H (last Oreo).

If everything else works except the Home screen, you could also try to just wipe data for the EasyHome app in the Settings/General/Apps & notifications/App Info menu. Worth trying.
If I were you, I would make a backup first using the Settings/General/Backup/Backup & restore menu. Most people overlook this great LG Backup tool, which can backup all app data and most systems and settings data. You can select what to backup and restore.
In case you have to factory reset or flash it clean, you can restore most of your phone data and settings from that backup. Of course save your Internal Storage to a PC or SD card or USB stick before wiping, including that LG Backup file.
