Can I use an unlocked V30 as DAP (Digital Audio Player) only - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Newbie here. Searched under DAP, audio, etc., but didn't see anything useful for me. I'm thinking about trying out a used/unlocked V30 off Ebay without sim card / cellular plan. Used only for audio streaming via Wifi, microSD card, and FM radio. Then transmitting via AptX HD to my stereo setup. Is this is possible / reasonable and what is the easiest / best version to buy? I'm thinking US998... just in case I ever want to go for a cellular plan, it's compatible with the most carriers? Thx.

In term of audio quality and price range, V30/30+ is the best you can get at the moment! I'm using soundmagic e80 which have 64 Ohm impedance, the audio quality is mind blowing. ?

Yes, US998.
Also with root you can fully enable the awesome LG DTS 3D stereo with equalizer, now available with newer firmware. Works on both wired and wireless (Bluetooth) connections.

That's very encouraging. Anything I should be looking for on Ebay? I know about a clean ESN. Is it OK to buy with "burn image" or "shadow screen" since I'm only streaming? How about this example:

Good Car Bluetooth FM Transmitter

I own the one shown in this link
http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/201006982/Car_Bluetooth_FM_Transmitter.html
But the one I have is made by Merlin. I bought it from Dubai Airport Duty Free Shop for around US$ 100. It works fine with Touch HD for calls and playing any audio files.
using the venturi mini, it's about £60-£70 but very good quality

Cool, but no remotes at all?

You mean, literally very good quality? As in, like wired/CD, no static, interference from other radio stations, hiss? Or good as in "okay for an FM transmitter"? It would be exciting if a good FM transmitter existed, it would save me from upgrading my car!

I'd love to know this as well. We drove down to Italy last year and we used a Tom Tom FM transmitter and it was rubbish. We constantly needed to retune it in the UK and France. When we got to Italy it was impossible to use due to all the radio stations they have.
I found two reviews on this Venturi thingie. The cnet reviewer complains a little about music playback quality, while the trustedreviews.com's statement is that the sound is crap. The user comment in the end confirms. So it looks like miracles don't happen, and a good FM transmitter is still an oxymoron. Alas...
Let me clarify. I have used many FM Transmitters before and this one has been the best so far.
However, I know the quality depends on your location. In Riyadh, when I live now, the spectrum of FM is not very congested, so it is easy to find a good frequency to use. For other locations, you have to try it yourself.
No FM Transmitter can match a wired solution. But, the one I tested was good enough.

Thanks for clarifying - I almost bought the thing!
Just a quick follow-up question - how do you select the frequency? Is there a set of predefined frequencies or can you manually tune it? What's the increment and the overall range (from xxMHz to yyMHz)?

There are two buttons for moving up or down for the frequency. I did not find yet a way to save some settings as profiles. Increments are in 0.1 and the whole FM spectrum is covered.
FM Transmitters
Well, I have Car FM transmitter got for my new car last month. I got it for my dad last month as he travels all time. He finds its great. You can check with Chinabuye, its online gadget store in China, they sell all car accessories including the FM Transmitters for all devices. You will get wide collections of at best rate. I was looking for better rates, i find its quite costlier at other shops like Alibaba.
+1 for the Venturi Mini here.

Sony apt-X support.

The lack of information on apt-X is ridiculous but I finally found something. According to the apt-X website, no current Sony devices support this protocol. This means that for any of you audiophiles like me, achieving the best sound quality on Sony devices is presently limited to wired headphones. This doesn't apply to headsets such as the Sony wireless headset pro, as pointed out by mrsatan. Just thought I'd share.

My sony bluetooth headphones use wolfson audio decoder which is arguably the best decoder around. I really dont understand what the big deal is with apt-X. Obviously there is some with hardware chips but it looks like their main draw is with software, which can be good or bad, Sony sound optimization is really good on Xperia S. They basically look like another vendor like Wolfson but I have never heard of them. Wolfson is awesome as **** when it comes to audio quality and my headphones are really good.

From what I understand the Wolfson DAC is hardware based in the phone, not in the Bluetooth transmitters/receivers. Bluetooth uses an entirely different protocol/codec to stream audio.. Once you stream via Bluetooth there is distortion. Not everyone notices it, but I do, and that could pertain to the type of music I listen to. That's why apt-X support is a better choice for some since distortion is eliminated. To each their own.

The wireless headset pro use Wolfson DAC since it is a standalone mp3 player as well. It definitely uses it even when streaming from the phone because their is a quality difference. There is no distortion on it because it doesnt decode before it streams it to bluetooth. I am a member of Head-fi.com and I remember before I bought the device we figured out what dac it was using and that influenced many to buy it. We were pleasantly suprised to see it using such a high quality dac.

USB DAC's - I've tried the FiiO K1 - other DAC's which are working?

Sooo, i bought the small but powerful K1 yesterday but I couldn't figure out how the K1 will work with my Nexus 6. I've connected it via OTG and it got recognised but yeah no sound came out of it :crying:. So I connected a passive USB Hub to the OTG cable. I can't say why but connected to the hub the K1 worked fine.
This isn't a great solution for me, has someone got the K1 working without a USB hub? Which USB DAC's are working for you?
the FiiO Q1 works with N6 like charm. I got the K1 and it's not working as well (not enough power to drive the amp I guess)

on that price point? yeah, absolutely!
but here's the thing. Audio is not just about the DAC-AMP and then you got that sound you always wanted. Q1 is bit warm and smooth (K1 as well) and it's a perfect match for vocals and instruments (and maybe some other genre).
and there's the IEM/Headphone/Earphone factor again..

Yea, also looking to pick up a pair of Sennheiser CX300 II soon. I take it Skullcandy is not a very "audiophile" brand Also, I'm running the stock ViPERAtmos package which, in my noob opinion, is pushing some pretty good sound when I have ViPER Clarity and the Dolby Atmos active equalizer going.

My recommendation would be..
I am not sure about how much this will cost you but i got this for $30 : http://sea.audio-technica.com/products/headphones/lifestyle/all-earphones/ath-ck330is . It is a fun, all arounder IEM and great for the budget.
for the DAC.. I think the K1 would be enough if you're listening from a laptop. But if you don't really mind carrying extra DAC-AMP for portable uses, the Q1 will serve you well.
==
but hey, if you do have access to local headphone store, go on and try what they have in offer(audition, as i love to call it). Who knows that you will find better deal there right?

The dac on the nexus is aight but it pushes little power for a portable device.

Don't buy Asus ROG Strix Go 2.4hz for your ROG II

I was about to buy the ASUS ROG Strix Go 2.4hz because I was tired of testing and looking for low latency available BT Audio Devices. Good thing that I checked Zen Talk first.
I found out that the equalizer app for the said device is not available on phones and that they are not yet planning to have one yet. See the attached link of the thread at Zen Talk. https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/comment/43508#Comment_43508
I could have looked the otherway with having a 3.5mm line for hi-res audio but I am not ok without the app.. talk about versatility of the device..

I was referring to the strix go 2.4z.. Asus should have developed an integrated system for both of them.. It will be great to have compatible devices.. The current audiowizard on rog II does not have an equalizer.. As to the strix, they are marketing it as a versatile device. If they'd upgrade the audiowizard to have equalizer settings when it is connected to Rog II, that would be definitely great..

When was the last update bro? I am waiting for the xiaomi line free bluetooth headphones that I ordered, it has aptx adaptive codec.. will try to make review about it... The latency is upto 80ms..
Now back to the ROG Strix Go, is the audiowizard compatible? Setting it's soundstage to wide is great advantage in shooting games... I had 90% accuracy in pinpointing the location of the enemies... I am currently using the fiil t1x TWS, the latency is the reason of that 10%, however the sounds are great.. It was immersive in playing online games, watching movies, and listening to songs..
Try testing the ROG Strix Go with the barber shop test, it's available at youtube.. There's a portion of that audio soundstage test that would make you freak out due to realistic sound effects... Please do reply hear after you have done that.. It will be a great help to all of us..
Will share hear also my experience with the xiaomi device

I am using it for a month now. The only hiccup is tweaking eq via pc Armoury crate. I have mailed Asus to add it on Mobile Armoury Crate as well. It sounds great. Not regretting my decision at all.

lack of apt-x hd got you down?

so far i'm really liking this phone. however, there are a couple things i wish were a little different:
1) i wish it had a dedicated, not-behind-the-screen fingerprint sensor (one thing my old LG did right).
2) i wish it supported apt-x hd for use with my (non-sony) wireless headphones.
so, i went looking for a solution to #2. for now, it appears that samsung just doesn't support apt-x hd-- and future official support is looking somewhere between doubtful and hopeless. additionally, i have a us version; my bootloader is locked and there does not appear to be a feasible software solution to the problem without root.
however, i stumbled onto this: creative bt-w3. i ordered it today and most likely won't have my hands on it for another week, buti wanted to make this post to:
--let people know about this possible solution to a vexing problem
--solicit any feedback or reviews, in case someone has already received one.
thanks for reading.
Vexing? This is vexing?
I just use LDAC, it's better than APT-X HD...
The Note9 when came out with Oreo, it had AptXHD then it was removed with Android Pie.
Now, after complaining, they out back AptX yet no HD support or HiRes audio support.
Seems Samsung is all about gimmicks but not audio.
The Dolby Atmos is crap if someone wants to defend them, try the Dolby Atmos on a Xbox One, then try the Samsung version and it's just an equalizer setting.
I'm currently saving for the Xperia phone, I'm done with Samsung.
Hey zagtastic, did you get this creative device working on your phone? I'm curious if it did in fact work for you. I'm looking into getting an S20 5G and was surprised by the lack of aptx-hd support on the specs.

If memory serves me correctly it's not; AptX-HD has better overall audio qualities. LDAC is the next best.
Even rooting won't give you AptX-HD; all these latter generation Samsung's lack the hardware support for this codec.

Bump, so does this thing work on a Samsung?
My Soundpeats TrueAir 2 buds sound bloody awesome with Dolby on but also running Poweramp. If anything they sound better than they were on my Mi10T Pro that has Apt-x built in.

No. whats vexing is buying the Note 20 Ultra 5G "unlocked" from Best Buy at $1300 only to realize it is still impossible to unlock the bootloader despite "right to repair". I will never buy another Galaxy or any other overpriced, overgoverned Samdung product. I should have bought another OnePlus. The lack of Apt-X is irritating but not a problem Id call "vexing" when there are so many other complaints that dwarf it.
Any Bluetooth codec will never be as good as a wired set of headphones anyway, UAPP or Poweramp output to 1 More or Similar in ears will sound a lot better, (inexpensively)

LDAC streams at a max of 990kbps, translating to a sample rate of 96kHz and a bit depth of 24 bits while APTXhd stops at 48 kHz.
So LDAC is the top one followed by APTXhd

If you bt device doesn't support LDAC but its a Samsung bt that supports SCC that's probably the next best choice.
APTX HD is off the table useless it's hardware supported to begin with. Samsung does not support it.
