Verizon Galaxy S4 - I545VRUAMDK - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S 4

Hello,
I have a verizon galaxy S4 and I am currently running Jelly Beans Android 4.2.2.
The baseband is VRUAMDK
The build number is VRUAME7
I have not used this phone since 2015 so I forgot what I did back then and I also forgot if I unlocked the bootloader or not lol
I am confused because I have CWM recovery installed.
What I would like to know is the following:
1. How can I check to see if the bootloader is indeed unlocked?
2. Since it is a Verizon phone, when I put in an AT&T SIM card I get network access and I get H+ data. Is there a way to get 4G LTE since the phone is 4G LTE capable?
3. I used to have an HTC One M9 and I remember I flashed a Dev ROM on it and I was able to flash any variant rom like AT&T, T-mobile, Global or International...etc Is this also possible on the S4 assuming the bootloader is unlocked?
4. Given the above info, is it safe to flash any other custom roms without loosing the unlocked bootloader? ( from my research, I understand that the bootloader of MDK baseband can be unloacked).
Thanks in advance...

1. Your bootloader is NOT unlocked, however since you have CWM recovery installed, it seems your phone has taken advantage of the loki doki exploit which the MDK firmware allows. No other firmware will allow a custom recovery so NEVER update your phone off the MDK bootloader.
2. To use the phone on AT&T, all you need is the APN settings to get 4G LTE.
3. Again the bootloader is NOT unlocked, it's just by passing the lock with the loki doki exploit. And no you can only use ROMs made for your phone whether it be TW based ROMs of AOSP like Cyanogen Mod.
4. Yes, you can flash any ROM made for your phone and loki doki will not be lost. No the MDK bootloader cannot be unlocked, but it can be by passed with loki doki.
I have the same set up on my phone here (Android 4.2.2 but running a lollipop ROM with CWM recovery) only mine is the AT&T variant on the MDL bootloader which is the AT&T version of the MDK bootloader on your phone. It can be exploited with loki doki too.

Thank you Stoney for the detailed response. This was very helpful and refreshing.
Can you please give me a name or two of the ROMS that can be flashed on MDK without issues. I am using Lineage OS on my OnePlus without google play or google services and this is what I am trying to do on the S4 as well. I want to keep the MDK version and install a rom without any google services or Verizon bloatware.
Thanks again in advance

No problem glad to help. I'm pretty sure you can flash any AOSP or TW based ROM that you want as long as it's for your phone. There's a lineage OS ROM for my phone, so there might be one for yours just look in the original android development section found here on the forum.
I do have a Verizon s4 as well, but it's been updated passed MDK thanks to the guy that owned it before me so my bootloader is locked. However, I can boot custom TW ROMs, just no AOSP based ones. I'm running stang5litre Note 5 ROM on it. As for my at&t phone here that can use loki doki, I also run a custom TW ROM on it.

Got it. I will probably flash any KitKat AOSP or CM rom because I want to stay on Jelly bean or KitKat and maybe Lollipop but not higher. Thanks again. I appreciate your help.

Do you know if there is a trick to plugging in Verizon APN setting when I have my at&t sim card inserted ?
My network settings are as follows:
Mobile data is enabled
Global data roaming is disabled
Network Mode is set to GSM/UMTS
The default Verizon APN setting is greyed out and I can not select it or edit it. If I manually add another APN setting that has verizon settings and I save it it does not show up in the list of APN settings. It just disappears the moment I save it.
any thoughts?
Thanks

If you're using the Verizon phone with an AT&T SIM card, then for 4G LTE data to work you need AT&T APN settings which are:
Name: ATT HSPA+
APN: phone
Proxy: <Leave in Blank>
Port: <Leave in Blank>
Username: <Leave in Blank>
Password: <Leave in Blank>
Server: <Leave in Blank>
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
MMS port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type: <Leave in Blank>
APN type: default,supl,mms,hipri
APN Protocol: Leave it to the Default one
Bearer: Leave it to the Default one
And sticking to kit kat is probably a good idea. There's a google play edition ROM that's suppose to be good. I'm running lollipop on my AT&T loki doki S4 here and it's alright, though it has some bugs since it's a custom touch wiz ROM. I haven't tried running any AOSP Android 7, 8, or 9 ROMs.

LG Home (T-Mobile VS. LG Unbranded) Need some help.

After having my T-Mobile Optimus-T running the latest 10s OS hang and not reboot after updating a few apps I decided to install the unbranded 20G firmware to make the jump to Gingerbread. I like a lot of others found the fastdormancy bug and battery life went out the door. After trying to update the flex.db to get this to work I compared the flex.db from the 10S firmware (set up a kitchen, extracted and used a sqlite viewer) and found that it is substantially smaller as it only contains the T-Mobile info. So I backed up the originals and replaced both the flex.db and flex.xml files with the froyo T-Mobile versions. The good news is that this fixed the fastdormancy (I think) but made the LG Home launcher only show 2 shortcuts rather than the 4 that were there after the update to 20G. It seems that this is something that is defined based on provider as I could not find anything in the flex.db that would relate to the number of shortcuts. I would like to find where this can be changed and would appreciate any information related to the the actual shortcuts and the number of them for LG Home.
And please do not make this a thread about alternate launchers, I've tried a few an while this may be an option, it is not just yet.
The P500 and P509 have different data bands. GSM is identical but 2/3g is different. I wouldn't recommended that you use an Official 2.3.3 GB rom on your P509.
Wait for TMO to officially provide a new baseband (don't hold your breathe) or use miks or andys GB roms which work on the old baseband.

Download the V10S kdz and extract using DZDecrypt.exe. There you'll find the baseband files. Follow doktornotors guide to flash it but replace the files from his guide with the ones you extracted.

I am curious what the pitfalls might be, it seems that I'm having no issues with 3G currently and my speeds are comparable to what I was getting with 10S. And I flashed out of knowing that there is not likely going to be a gingerbread release for the 509. I must say that it seems smoother, and there was next to no bloatware on the unbranded firmware.

The way I understand it is that there are two data frequencies. One we share with the P500 and one is unique. It's likely that you're connected to the one that is shared.
As for consequences with regards to harming the hardware, I don't know.
**EDIT**
IMO using a P500 2.2.2 unbranded rom would be the safe bet.

Keep an eye out for issues where when you answer the phone it drops the call, I went back to 10s rooted and cleaned of bloat, and to say my battery life improved after a full charge and deletion of the battery stats is an understatement.
RE
so is v10s the baseband or the system firmware? because on the p509 ive always used the v10L_00 2.2 firmware with no updates availible.
also with tmobile 2.2 the phone shipped with, i already had problems with calls being dropped as soon as i answered them, as well as when i dialed out it would get stuck sometimes dialing.

That is the firmware version, 10l and 10s used the same baseband. you can use kdz updater to install the rom, however this is a wipe not an upgrade so you will have to backup any important data first.
Here is the link to a link for the file, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19292603&postcount=45

yeah okay cool, kdz updater is how i got to v20E, an official update hasnt been pushed to the p509 yet
thanks anyways, do u know if i could use a custom kernel on a factory rom??

I there need to update the APN to work with verizon.
I am now rooting the phone to 4.2.1 and will look to edit the APN's once rooted.
My question is do i just need the API Editor app and just enter the corrent APN's for vzw?

None of this is necessary once you root it and put it back on Verizon. The APN's built into the roms are for Verizon.

[Q] Moving i545 to Tmobile

I'm trying to flash a TMobile ROM on the i545 to use on TMobile. I have Insane 4.4.4 Hybrid v6 working, but the cell radio is not. I've tried flashing modules (which made the wifi work - I assume that is the module's only function). I have flashed 2 different i545 KK kernels to no effect either. I have it flashed in rom slot 1, should I be overwriting the stock rom slot? I'm running the latest NG6 (came with it updated), but can downgrade to NC5 from my understanding, if needed. I'm not sure what I'm missing to get it working, as I know others have. Thanks.
You don't need to flash a T-mobile ROM, just insert the T-mobile SIM and set the APN.
Edit: just to be clear - the i545 will work on T-mobile, but only on bands that VZ and T-mo have in common.
Flashing some other carrier's ROM won't change what frequencies are supported by the radio hardware.

[Q] [Help Request] HTC One M7 CDMA Assistance: Using a regional carrier

I have a HTC One M7 with Carolina West Wireless. I unlocked the bootloader, installed twrp, rooted and flashed liquid smooth rom. I'm loving the rom and almost everything is working great except for mms. I've tried to add some APN settings I found but my mms still won't send or receive. I called CWW tech support, but they refused to give me the APN settings and suggested I bring it in to get looked at.
I still have the previous rom backed up, but I haven't been able to find the APN settings in the menus. Anyone have ideas how to find the APN?

Convert Verizon S5 to full T-mobile S5

I have a Galaxy S5 that was on the Verizon network. I now have it on the T-Mobile network with a T-Mobile sim but I still have all the Verizon crud.
I have it rooted and the bootloader unlocked. Can I just flash any T-Mobile stock/rooted rom and have it be a full T-Mobile phone?

No. It wasn't my phone but a friends. His main compliant was that it did not do location searches correct and I fixed that by adding the T-Mobile info. He said he would just leave the rest alone.

jrkruse, guide is really helpful along with the link above.
However, i have problems with the lock screen not loading and when i turn the brightness all the way down my screen flickers with a yellow hue until i turn up the brightness. I am lead to believe that the screen flickering yellow is a hardware problem with the screen. Nevertheless, i am trying to move to a stock T-mobile Rom now even though i don't have a t-mobile kernel.
I have verizon s5 I'm attempting to do the same too... If only we could change the baseband from verizon to tmobile? I have cid 15 chip and have done the unlock. Could there be a way?
