MOST Stable rom for RN3 2GB Version - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys hope you r donig well ♥
and suggestions about a stable rom & kernel for my 2gb version
i don't play pubg or games , only use my phone for camera and social media
i do prefer N roms cuz most of the people say that pie still have some issues
thanks for your time guys ♥

Citrus-caf obviously. Though it's a little bit old, i.e. Dec, 18. Nevertheless, it's the most stable among all. It's the only Pie rom for kenzo having SE Linux enforcing. Flash it with orangefox recovery and opengapps 64 bit nano package. Good luck.

Stabe and Up-to-date Custom ROM for Redmi Note 3, meet /e/!

Hi Mo'men Hesham,
I strongly suggest /e/OS, from eFoundation (for Redmi Note 3 - kenzo)
Characteristics:
1. Stable (android 7/nougat);
2. Secure (latest security patch, SELinux enforcing, Phone Encryption)
3. Frequent updates (built-in updater);
4. Official nightly builds (on gitlab);
5. Privacy oriented (Privacy Guard, MicroG, ...);
6. Elegent & consistent experience;
7. Optional online services & a welcoming community.

/e/ has this nasty bug that powers down the device at certain battery percentage, highly unstable. Also kernel (stock LineageOS 14.1) hasn't been updated in years which makes this security oriented ROM unsecure.

I never experienced that bug on /e/ so far, my battery goes as down as 1% very often without any issue (which is terrible for its longevity actually)

in my experience at least, it is very stable. I was on Havoc OS before, which wasn't that stable.

Could you elaborate on that kernel issue please?
note that at the the present time, the "Phone Status" screen displays the following:

I was referring to the battery bug as being unstable. It's a bug within stock kenzo LineageOS 14.1 kernel which /e/ is powered by. Which takes me to the security part; there are system level patches, which are up to date, no problem with that and kernel level patches. Kernel was last updated (not built, different thing) on November 2017, which makes your device vulnerable to some serious exploits.

Oh, now I see what you mean. I used to have that issue for a while back when I was on Lineage OS, but after I replaced my two years old battery, that behavior stopped completely! so I just put the blame on the battery age.

Thank you for the explanation, I just looked it up. So the Linux kernel 3.10.y reached its End Of Life almost two years ago! and the date displayed on "Settings > About phone" is just the actual building date. Well that's a serious security flaw related to the vendor/device itself, whatever the Custom ROM one chooses to install.
That being said, and if the OP still wants to keep his device, /e/OS is a right choice compared to the other Custom ROMs, for the remaining reasons stated in my first reply.
Cordially,

[ROM/Kernel] LineageOS "Pro" 15.1 for the LeEco Le Max2 [05/05]

This thread may be under construction, watch out!
An introduction to my new Oreo sauce...
This is a modified LineageOS 15.1 ROM meant to fill my personal needs, including my minimalistic Lambda Kernel out-of-the-box and a few customizations to provide a different, privacy-focused, Android experience, just for you.
What are the very best features included?
~> Always latest vanilla LineageOS 15.1 codebase;
~> Root virginity preserved, unrooted;
~> SafetyNet bypass out-of-the-box;
~> Google PlayStore device certification;
~> Privacy oriented Bromite web browser;
~> Compiled with SDClang LLVM 4.0 toolchain;
~> Dex-preoptimization of boot image and system server;
~> Minimalistic Lambda Kernel, more information right down below.
What does this magical Kernel support?
~> Cleanly built on top of the latest QCOM reference Kernel for MSM8996;
~> Up-to-date camera_v2 driver stack according to Nougat (LA.UM.5.5) code base;
~> Proper OEM Kernel code adjusted per target (ZL1/X2) and adapted to the new base;
~> Adjusted headset detection framework to account for Type-C adapter;
~> Optimized and adjusted for the -O2 GCC compilation flag;
~> Minimal configuration with the bare minimum drivers needed;
~> Safe fast charging input, regulated per stock Kernel definitions;
~> A little bit faster panel wake up and touchscreen initialization;
~> Unlocked bootloader state bypass, reports green.
What are the known issues so far?
?> Ambient display feature makes the panel wake up a bit funky, you'll see it when compared to the disabled state, which doesn't have that funkiness.
?> Time registering is broken, the daemon doesn't write properly to the Kernel for some reason and ends up not having the correct time after a reboot with the internet turned off.
?> CDLA sometimes has some pops in the background when not listening to anything, pretty minor though.
Nice, where are the downloads?
The downloads are available in the dev release tag in my Github's lineage_releases repository, there you'll find the zip file for installation and the md5sum for checking the file's integrity.

Did anyone mention FAQ?
A series of questions, answers, and wonders about all the things she I said in case you didn't get it already.
&> Q. Why isn't this a new project instead of just a simple variant of LineageOS? There are already a ton of them...
&> A. I think there's already a ton of Android "projects" and I don't feel like nor have time to create yet another one that I probably wouldn't be able to maintain for long.
&> Q. How much time will this "variant" be supported?
&> A. Only future wilt tell us but most likely our brave "variant" will resist at least one Android cycle starting from now, all the way through P, even after LineageOS officially drops it we can still have some OEL support if other developers keep the game going.
&> Q. How does it diverge from official LineageOS builds?
&> A. This one aims at providing a snapshot-like experience - if you remember CyanogenMod gold era - which uses the non-debugging user flavor instead of userdebug as Google keeps pushing their draconian restrictions to have access to their apps and services, we need to fake it to avoid forfeiting.
&> Q. My device is "certified" on Google PlayStore, how?
&> A. The bootloader green check in Kernel and user flavor made it possible. I'm not sure how much longer will it take to Google before they go with something deeper to restrict the access of their services by custom ROMs unconditionally. This is a trick though, your device will never be certified with an unlocked bootloader and non-OEM ROM.
&> Q. Will you ever include root support out-of-the-box?
&> A. No, never. You can flash Magisk if you want it, the latest the better in this case. Not sure about the addonsu from LineageOS itself as I never used it.
&> Q. Will you include Dolby Atmos, ViperFX, $(insert_nice_name_here) out-of-the-box?
&> A. No, not at all.
Heeyo! Are you using official LineageOS trees for building your variant?

Synced today, no fools included
Well cause i liked your kernel i will try out this rom also!
Nice timing tbh. Just bricked my current rom rn.
True. I've been using his kernel since 24 hours and damn it is the best kernel for x2. My phone's battery temperature doesn't cross 42°C even though my country's normal temperature outdoors is around 38-40°C these days. I get around 20%/hour drain on medium usage which is awesome for my 15 month old battery. Will definitely flash your rom and give feedback.
Hey. Congratz for your work. Can you give more detail about this please: "Safe fast charging input, regulated per stock Kernel definitions;" So we still would able to charge fastly as up to 4000 mH? The quick charge on/off option is available for your kernel? That feature doesn't work properly on the Oreo ROMs..
This is Awesome! The legend is back!
I am so pumped right now! :d:d
@GalaticStryder
Hello, gapps are included inside the rom?
Works everything?
Thanks in advance

First: Big THX @GalaticStryder for this awesome build.
Tested it for an hour now and everything seems perfect. Sound quality is excellent (through Headphones). Rom itself very smooth.
Will report battery Backup later.
Gapps are NOT included, Root is NOT included.
Heyyo, congrats on the release GalaticStryder! She sounds super promising!
A request
I am going to make a very dumb request, can you create an overclocked kernel for this build? Would it be possible?
Thanks so much
Has same bugs as official (eg slow motion video recording not working)?
Thank you for your work dude. I'm wondering if you would make a kernel with focus fix.

He would end up better adding leeco prefs in settings with quick charge switch, maybe akt and focus switch.
Rom works really well. I didnt saw any bugs in it rn.
Tell me, how about Vulcan drivers? Are they present in yours build? If not, do you plan add them?
Thx 4 ur work

Stable custom rom for redmi note 4 sd

Hello,
I have redmi note 4 3GB variant, rooted with miui 9.5.11.0
I wanted to try out a stable custom rom, I'm leaning towards resurrection rom and lineage os, can you guys tell me which versions of those are stable enough for me to try?
And, what is the most hassle free and simplest way to back up and restore data.
In other words, how to easily switch from stock rom to custom rom (or vice versa) without loosing user data?
Los is good but if u are fan of customisation Then RR is good also Aosp Extended is good option, u can restore your old backup and its very easy just make backup of your current rom and flash the custom rom.

It doesn't get more stable than LineageOS.
But the price you pay is that there aren't any customizations or features. Currently it's basically pure Android
I'm using Miracle droid for 6 months now since i dont need treble at the moment or until magisk has official treble support.
Many customization option and no bug so far.

I prefer customization, not pure android.
At least for me, Miracle has better batter life. i love RR since Galaxy S2
oh by the way RR nougat is the best battery life so far.
I use RR Luis ROM, 5..8.5 version, which is for Nougat. Battery life is excellent, lots of customizations, and very stable.
Try the Lineage Extended by Alexey. Its not here in XDA, but search Alexey711 in androidfilehost. Thats the perefect version of Lineage based ROM I've found. Lots of customization plus regular updates.
Alexey build in lineage is the best , he update daily I think:silly: almost all customization in resurrection are available in it
If you want to try resurrection go for endless, his battery life is outstanding, he also update with useful features

LineageOS eXtended is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 8 (oreo), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS eXtended is based on LineageOS and the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS eXtended does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.

I've been using this rom for the past 12 hours. Very good. Haven't run into any issues other than the brightness bug but that's in Pixel Experience as well and you're using the same device tree so that is to be expected. (Brightness gets stuck at max once you set it at max and you have to reboot to make it unstuck)
Features are very welcome and rom is quite smooth overall. Definitely daily driver material. Really enjoying it. Appreciate your contribution to this device. I'll report anything else I find.
Thank you

The brightness bug went away for me strangely. Turn on adaptive brightness and reboot and see if it goes away. Glad it's working well for you anyway. The only issue I've noticed is a bit of lag with the vibration motor when typing but turning off haptic feedback resolves that.

Are you planning to bring more Oreo ROMs?

I don't think so. I think I will maintain Lineage if it's updated with security patches, but this one does not, and I think most of the others do not either...

Hi everyone, here is a new build with "doze", should improve battery life (and I'm using it, I think it does ! )
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cKzSmxPJvPYuLowyNMqdriJGa7kYMlhD
For those who hope for Oreo updates, my todo/trying list is the following :
trying to improve the kernel, in order not to have to install a custom one to have videos with Instagram/WhatsApp
trying to update the ROM with Google security patches
If I succeed to do that, I may be able to maintain DotOS 2.5, and thus LineageOS
But just a reminder : I'm doing it for my personal interest/curiosity, and I have a work and kids, so don't expect to much from me !

Something is better than nothing. Personal life is always important. I hope that people won't pester you for updates. Thanks for developing Oreo ROMs.
I have a query. When I used this ROM, the screen on time was worse than your lineage OS ROM but idle drain was similar. Since doze reduces idle drain, have your screen on time improved with this version?

Sorry, the link is fixed now
Thank you, @adinechin ! This rom is really good. I use it with "PBH" kernel. It's fast and smooth, with good customization options and no major issues. Voice calling quality is also good - may be the in call volume is a little loud and also the interlocutors hear a very slight echo of their voice.
I found two bugs:
1.After restarting, Substratum layers are deactivated and must be reactivated.
2. Cracking sound of notifications with stock kernel.
And one question - is the latest version of September 9th?

Hi and thanks for your feedback
About security patches, the Oreo version has been abandonned since March so I'll have to merge the fixes myself and fork all repositories needed. It might take some time but I'm willing to do it
For the other bugs I don't know if I can fix them, but you can always send logs...

Hi everyone, here is a new build : https://drive.google.com/open?id=1G4c89Xry01uzn4Qk6QVRuhd299L73xkC
Pie kernel for better battery life, and video bug in WhatsApp and Instagram
Update of security patch to june (I don't know why but I did not succed to merge patches to september, and be aware that the patch might not be really up to date even to june...)
I wanted to share this build because I've not much time these days, but the Pie kernel is a good improvement.

Is there any ROM based on A10 with latest security patches?

We all have observed that most of the A11 roms have at least few bugs and few ROMs are yet to implement important features. For example PE+ has heating/drain issue resulting in an update getting released within 24 hours of the previous build (good response time though).
In this scenario, I would your help in knowing if there is any ROM which is based on A10 (solid stability, battery life) with latest security patches, with at least fair amount of features like corvus or Evo x (but these dont hv latest patches).
Thank you.
There is Nusantara LTS (long term support) in the ROM section. I'm using march version but April is already there and may could come soon. It has many features like Havoc or crDroid. I'm not a heavy user but for me it works fine.
I switched last month from crDroid 6.13 to crDroid 7.5 and it's been pretty solid with most Q customizations included.
