Has anyone noticed a change in fingerprint speed and accuracy since updating to EMUI 9.1?
The one thing that consistently annoys me about this phone is that the fingerprint reader is quite "picky", only choosing to work for me roughly 75% of the time (I use faceunlock for most things). Some people have said they have noticed an improvement in 9.1, so is this the general feeling or not?
(I'm asking as my Mate 20 Pro is no longer my main device, so it's now not getting used as much as it otherwise would)
Face unlock is the same, still very good. And fingerprint is a little bit faster, but above all it's more reliable now. I've had fewer mismatches since 9.1
I notice fingerprint unlock to be a little faster too, not as fast as the P30 scanner but faster than before. I don't really use it though because face unlock is so ridiculously fast. I just lift my phone off the table and less than a second later it's on the home screen without having to press or swipe anything.
Yeah, as I said, I use faceunlock too; but banking apps etc. all require fingerprint authentication, and that's when it tends not to work... (or at least has done in the past)
That's the 1st thing I noticed after the update to 9.1, fingerprint reader and face unlock much better. These where my biggest frustrations with my phone before the update...

The FP scanner on the U-Pro is the worst I have ever used on any phone. It's recognition is poor, it vibrates meaninglessly and it tells you fingerprint not recognised even when phone has unlocked. Am I the only one with this problem?
Add more fingerprints for one finger changing the position of the finger (is a bit redundant but I think you can understand what I'm trying to say) .
For me works fine
I can't say I've noticed the problems you are experiencing. The FP unlock works better on my U Pro than on my old Moto G4 Plus and P9000.
I just wish it wasn't on the back of the phone as it's a real pain when mounted in my car.
Elephone U-Pro fingerprint reader problem
I have had elephone s7, si and not this one. I fully agree with you. Trying to find a solution yet.
horrible sensor
I'm having this problem too, lousy response from the sensor. But the tip of registering the same finger multiple times really makes it better :good: . Still not ideal you still have to press really hard. Real bummer for this otherwise beautiful Elephone U Pro.
Hi all,
I've read in various forums people having poor recognition of their fingerprints on the Mate 20 pro in-screen scanner and I too was suffering the same issue. Oddly, I found that over time, my right thumb (the finger I used the most) was being recognised more consistently. This then led me to believe that the system improves recognition the more you use it. So....
If you head into the "fingerprint ID" area under the security and privacy menu, there's a feature named "identify fingerprint". If you select that and repeatedly try each finger, as it recognises the finger, it begins improving immediately. I did this with 4 fingers and after about a minute of "training", my success rate for all fingers went from sub 30% to greater than 90%.
Hope this helps.
Darren
Thanks, I will give it a try. At first I found the fingerprint reader horribly picky and slow, but even after a couple of days I have adjusted and can open it nearly every time with the right press. Unlike some readers this thing seems to want to see your whole thumb, so a flat press is necessary, and so is somewhat accurate location of that press. And... You have to hold it for just that right amount of time... I still sometimes get several failures in a row for no apparent reason, but overall I am happy with it.
Anyone else having fingerprint reader issues or tips?
I'm using screen protector that comes with it out of the box and on the android version that includes the September security patch.
Haven't tried face unlock as with the pop up camera that seems just weird

What do you mean by "issues"?
I seem to be having a hard time to get it to work every time. The thumbs seem to be the best. I just deleted and redid the setup on my 3 fingers I have set up...
Same here: regular 7T pro, 10.0.3 and with the screenprotector still on. I regularly see the fingerprint animation at least 3 times, sometimes it doesn't work at all. Very annoying because it unlocking the phone is now very slow.
It seems to help if you press hard first and then lift your finger.
The 7t Pro has a bit difficult to read a new fingerprint, but after a few successful readings the phone will learn the fingerprint better to finally get fast and accurate.

I have same problem. I must set fingerprint again then unlocking works normally for few days.
Am I the only one that finds it so annoying when it blinds you at night ?
Mine also got better it seems, meaning less not unlocks. It's just different than a button that I'm used to.
Regarding the light at night, I believe it needs it to read your fingerprint. You can disable the ring... Maybe that helps (if you can find out)
My fingerprint NEVER works on the first try. Sometime the 2nd and 3rd as well. I've registered both my pointer fingers TWICE each. I have had numerous Android devices including the G7 Power and never had this issue before. Anyone else having the same problem?
I've had the g7 optimo and now the g power 2020. Both have the fastest responding fingerprint sensors I've used. Sounds like you might have a hardware issue.
Yep!! Came from a G7, worked every single time. Now with the G it's hit and miss but only when opening the phone, haven't noticed it having issues with other apps.
What I've found to work out great, I use either pointer finger to unlock, more the right than left. So what I do is scan the right finger 3 times, and the left 2. That way each reading gets a different part of the finger and has a better chance at reading it. Hope that helps
Btw, I've done it on all my devices that have a fingerprint and it's always worked
It's my slowest smartphone talking about of fingerprint, and yes, you need to register your fingerprint very, but very accurately if you want a better unlock response. I needed to delete my fingerprints twice and then I did it again but without back protector and cleaning throughly my fingers, now the unlock accuracy it's better and don't need to try two or three times, but the time till the phone it's completely unlocked it's toooo long.
I would say to set up the fingerprints again. And pay close attention to scanning your entire fingertip slowly.
I have issues if my fingers get a little wet, like from condensation from a glass, or sweaty.
I've had the pixel 6 for about 2 months now and I thought I'd share my thoughts on some of the quirks of the device.
As many of you have experienced, the fingerprint scanner is not great. It's slow and dithers far too often. I've tried registering the same finger more than once but that's not helped.
Another quirk of this device, and it might be a consequence of the December update, is that almost all of the pictures and videos I took the other day were not orientated correctly. Most were upside down.
Another unfortunate side effect of the December update is the poor network signal. It also disconnects randomly. Whilst on the subject of networks and signal, I can't seem to be able to easily disable 5G. It's not very widely available here, it wastes battery and 4g is plenty fast.
The phone is not as buttery smooth as I expected. There's been lots of occasion when it would hang for about a second. Usually when typing.

Is it possible to disable 5G on AT&T?
Bought an unlocked 256G pixel 6, looking to disable 5G to get longer battery life. However I am not seeing the "Preferred network" option under SIMS. Is there a secret handshake?

Yea fingerprint scanner can be non responsive on the lock screen even with the fingerprint image there to touch. Tap the screen, swipe up that gets it going but a lot of the time it feels like a multistep puzzle to get the phone awake.
AND there's always a big fingerprint smudge in the middle lower part of the screen!
Photos (compared to my pixel 2) seem brighter and noisier and I'm not all convinced any better.
Maybe because I'm running ProtonAOSP (w/December update) but I haven't noticed any of these issues. For sure on-screen fingerprint scanners suck compared to the ones on the back of the old Pixels but the on screen scanner in the Pixel 6 doesn't seem any worse to me than the one in my Mi 9 or OnePlus 9. I've noticed no issues at all with network signal and I do have an option to turn of 5G. And the phone is definitely buttery smooth for me.
Maybe give ProtonAOSP a try?

Do you experience jitter scrolling/typing?

So I'm not alone. This is what made me go back to the November build. It's so annoying. Hope it will be fixed soon.
However the Pixel 6 is almost perfect now. I usually get it off the charger at 80%. By the time it hits 20% I am getting 5hrs SOT straight. Maybe because I'm mostly on wifi these days, but still this is the best I have experienced on an Android.
