My fingerprint NEVER works on the first try. Sometime the 2nd and 3rd as well. I've registered both my pointer fingers TWICE each. I have had numerous Android devices including the G7 Power and never had this issue before. Anyone else having the same problem?
I've had the g7 optimo and now the g power 2020. Both have the fastest responding fingerprint sensors I've used. Sounds like you might have a hardware issue.
Yep!! Came from a G7, worked every single time. Now with the G it's hit and miss but only when opening the phone, haven't noticed it having issues with other apps.
What I've found to work out great, I use either pointer finger to unlock, more the right than left. So what I do is scan the right finger 3 times, and the left 2. That way each reading gets a different part of the finger and has a better chance at reading it. Hope that helps
Btw, I've done it on all my devices that have a fingerprint and it's always worked
It's my slowest smartphone talking about of fingerprint, and yes, you need to register your fingerprint very, but very accurately if you want a better unlock response. I needed to delete my fingerprints twice and then I did it again but without back protector and cleaning throughly my fingers, now the unlock accuracy it's better and don't need to try two or three times, but the time till the phone it's completely unlocked it's toooo long.
I would say to set up the fingerprints again. And pay close attention to scanning your entire fingertip slowly.
I have issues if my fingers get a little wet, like from condensation from a glass, or sweaty.

Does anybody know any ROM, or something, to wake the device by double tap? (Wake, not unlock)
My FP has been taking a nap for quite some time, and I need something so I don't break the power button which seems a bit fragile if you ask me.
I did search but I could find something. Thanks.
Heyyo, sadly the issue is the touchscreen firmware does not support DT2W so even if it was enabled software wise it wouldn't work because of lack of hardware support.
For your FP not working are you referring to when your device is alseep for a while? If so then a modem firmware update will resolve that since it fixes the fingerprint not working when device is asleep bug.
My thread here I link Chinese 26s and Developer 466D modem firmware

Just flash via TWRP and reboot.

No no, I was joking, the FP is kinda dead... It catches a print whenever it wants, most of the times when it does it does with a huge delay, and most of the times it doesn't catch prints at all... I need an alternative for the malfunctioning FP that doesn't imply bashing the power button everyday. I'm already on 466D, tried literally every firmware possible and the FP is still broken.
I wonder, could a new firmware add dt2w support? What if we ask LeEco for that, even though they won't give a crap... ?
Edit: Forgot to mention, the first couple of hours after getting the device out of the box the FP was working just fine, both EUI and LOS. Tried to revert to stock to calibrate and other stuff and still nothing.

Ah shoot yeah that sounds like hardware.. she still within that first year of warranty? If so you should be able to RMA it.
Either that or ordering and replacing your fingerprint reader yourself. I've replaced my screen it's not too bad just takes a while to heat the adhesive tape enough to separate the screen from the phone.
As for adding in DT2W? My guess is they would need to physically flash it to the screen hardware much like a PC monitor manufacturer does if there is a software defect and they usually do so as a product recall... So odds are the Le Max 2 will never make it to our phones which is unfortunate
I don't want to deal with geekbuying. I heard stories from people who claim their FP came miraculously back to life, so until then, hail Mary... As for the FP change, I don't know, I heard it is very hard to deal with removing the glue, the screen is very thin... I don't know man.

It's technically not glue but heat activated 3M adhesive tape.
I bought this 2mm stuff when I did my screen replacement and it held like a rock
Double Sided Layer Adhesive Sticky Glue Tape Sticker 2mm Wide and 50 meter long for use in Tablets Mobile Phone Touchscreen Digitizer LCD Screen Display Glass Professional kit incl. 1 pair of Tweezers 1 Cleaning Clotch and 1 pair of Special Scissors https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00PVWMTA6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_oIjkAb08KY53Y
I do recommend wearing gloves as the phone gets darn hot once you take a heat gun or hair dryer to it heh it's honestly not too bad to repair.
You'll also need a small suction cup or if you have two you can out one on the screen and one on the back to make life a little easier.
The FP scanner on the U-Pro is the worst I have ever used on any phone. It's recognition is poor, it vibrates meaninglessly and it tells you fingerprint not recognised even when phone has unlocked. Am I the only one with this problem?
Add more fingerprints for one finger changing the position of the finger (is a bit redundant but I think you can understand what I'm trying to say) .
For me works fine
I can't say I've noticed the problems you are experiencing. The FP unlock works better on my U Pro than on my old Moto G4 Plus and P9000.
I just wish it wasn't on the back of the phone as it's a real pain when mounted in my car.
Elephone U-Pro fingerprint reader problem
I have had elephone s7, si and not this one. I fully agree with you. Trying to find a solution yet.
horrible sensor
I'm having this problem too, lousy response from the sensor. But the tip of registering the same finger multiple times really makes it better :good: . Still not ideal you still have to press really hard. Real bummer for this otherwise beautiful Elephone U Pro.
Hi all,
I've read in various forums people having poor recognition of their fingerprints on the Mate 20 pro in-screen scanner and I too was suffering the same issue. Oddly, I found that over time, my right thumb (the finger I used the most) was being recognised more consistently. This then led me to believe that the system improves recognition the more you use it. So....
If you head into the "fingerprint ID" area under the security and privacy menu, there's a feature named "identify fingerprint". If you select that and repeatedly try each finger, as it recognises the finger, it begins improving immediately. I did this with 4 fingers and after about a minute of "training", my success rate for all fingers went from sub 30% to greater than 90%.
Hope this helps.
Darren
Thanks, I will give it a try. At first I found the fingerprint reader horribly picky and slow, but even after a couple of days I have adjusted and can open it nearly every time with the right press. Unlike some readers this thing seems to want to see your whole thumb, so a flat press is necessary, and so is somewhat accurate location of that press. And... You have to hold it for just that right amount of time... I still sometimes get several failures in a row for no apparent reason, but overall I am happy with it.
I've had S10, two S20's and now S21. They all have one thing in common... The fingerprint sensor does not work. I would guess my fingerprint success rate at about 20% accuracy. My S21 fingerprint sensor fails the first time every time. No matter how many times I re-enter my fingerprints. I thought the new fingerprint sensor in the S21 would be better, it isn't.
By accident, reading Flipboard, somebody posted a story on how to speed up android phones. I did what the article recommended. My phone did indeed seem faster, but there was an additional benefit, my fingerprint sensor went from 20% accuracy to well over 90%. Works almost every single time now.
Make sure developer mode is enabled (go to settings > about phone > tap build number a few times).
Go back to settings, at the bottom will be developer options > drawing section.
Three entries;
Window Animation Scale
Transition Animation Scale
Animator Duration Scale
All settings are default 1x.
Change all three settings to either .5x or zero.
Enjoy!
Sorry, but this solution doesn't make any sense.

Oh, I guess that means mine works great too. And, nobody else has ever had a problem with the Samsung fingerprint sensor. Got it.
I mean, the animation scale has nothing to do with the fingerprint sensor. So it's not that his works great and yours doesn't, but it's like saying you can fix your car's engine if you just eat 3 extra apples per day. Nothing to do with one another.
What exactly is the reasoning behind how this helps the fingerprint sensor? and what exactly is it doing? Are there any downsides to this?
Like I was saying, I changed the settings just out of curiosity because the originator of the article mentioned that the changes make your phone appear to run faster. Nothing was mentioned about the fingerprint sensor. But, after making the changes, I immediately noticed that my fingerprint sensor started working. It was very dramatic as my sensor would fail the first time every time, and maybe 50% of the time on the second attempt. It was not unusual for me to have 5 failures in a row, locking the sensor for 30 seconds, multiple times a week.
My sister has a N20 Ultra and her sensor was so bad she quit using it. I contacted her about changing those settings, which she did, and her sensor started working too. This isn't my first rodeo, I've had a history with Samsung and their under display sensors. Mine has never worked going back to the S10.
I can't explain why changing these settings affect the sensor, but they do. I just changed back to 1x and my fingerprint sensor started failing just like it always has. Changed back to .5x and it starts working again. Sometimes I get the sense my sensor is not actually attempting to read fingerprint, just fails repeatedly. My guess is because the screen draws animations faster, the fingerprint sensor animation is faster too. Maybe that has something to do with it? So, analogy of car engine and apples isn't applicable. There might actually be some connection here.
Bottom line, it takes 30 seconds to change settings so you can easily do it and revert back just as quick. There seems to be nothing to lose, so...
I've noticed a substantial decrease in battery life with the changes from 1x to .5x. I reverted back to 1x and redid my fingerprints, once focusing on the center of the sensor and then a 2nd entry for the same finger focusing on the edges of the sensor. I'm going to have to live with this until the next non-Samsung phone comes along that I want to try...
Animation sucks up cpu, which slows down fingerprint.
No animation is best, what do I need fancy effects to tell me what I'm already doing lol
This entire thread reads like an April Fools joke.
This is the first time I am using on screen fingerprint reader. Absolutely hated it. However, over the days I have developed muscle memory and my finger goes to the correct spot. My accuracy went from 40 to 90% in the last month or so.
There are few things that can be done to improve finger print reader
- Use both the thumbs in one fingerprint
- Scanning along the edges of the scanner location.
THere are you tube videos that explain this in detail.
Additinal tip. I have enabled lift to wake and faceunlock as well. This has helped me faster unlock pretty much every time i pick up the phone.
PS: To me on the screen reader is more of a gimmick, it will take a few more generations to get this working very well for everyone.
There is space near the camera on the back where samsung could have place the reader.
This will give you additonal finger gesture features. Like in note 9 you can pull down and push up the norification bar and so on. ANyways this is a lost cause.

Don't do this. Scan each thumb twice, and it will work better. I usually do my right thumb 3x, my left thumb once, and my pointer finger once. Works perfectly for me, I'd say 99.9% of the time.

Oh wow, how did you manage to register 5 fingerprints? I can only register a maximum of 4.

Sorry, I have a **** ton of phones laying around. Some let you scan 5 times, others 4.

I HATE animations. They were cute maybe the first two times but after that I was done with them. And having to enable dev options is stupid. I use several apps that either complain about dev options being enabled or just plain won't run at all. No animations should be a normal selectable item like wallpaper.

To be honest, I thought I was the only one who truly hated animations. These seem extremely unnecessary and a little bit tacky.

Same here, I actually thought it was impossible to register 5 fingerprints, considering that I’ve been only able to do 3 or 4 max.
Fingerprint sensor instantly wakes up phone, making me unable to manually lock the phone which is what I've always wanted, I've been researching with almost no progress, besides knowing that this is not an issue, it is intended to be this way. However I have root access and I refuse to belive that I can't just disable the sensor completely, it is worth noting that this problem started when I began using DerpFest 13 Community Tango 20221114 1210 (Flashed from Stock), the Stock from Miui and Another Vanilla Android 13 didn't have this problem, I think spending 8 hours trying to fix the problem is enough time to get some help from you guys:
- Genteman solutions I have already tried:
[FIX] Disable Fingerprint Sensor & Wake Up Completely
I see so many questions in threads. Even if you don't set a fingerprint password, sensor still works and screen opens up. This can be annoying. So if you're not using fingerprint at all you can delete (or temporarily disable) it from your ROM...
forum.xda-developers.com
(I didn't found anything to delete in those directories, fair enough since that post only mentions MIUI stock and Nougat/Oreo, and 13 is Tiramisu)
Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 completely disable fingerprint scanner
Unintentional touching the fingerprint scanner, even with no fingerprints saved, wakes up device, which can be quite annoying and lead to several scenarios: -battery drain -turn on camera when in pocket -pause video in VLC -turn on flashlight...
forum.xda-developers.com
(I did found those files, which I promptly edited with the # at the start of each line, rebooted with no result, completely deleted and rebooted with no result and leave the files blank and reboot, again, with no result (Shocker, right?)
- Caveman solutions I have already tried:
Taping the button with the strongest, thickest duck tape I had around, (Yes, seriously), which did In fact worked but because the duct tape is an adhesive sometime it sticks, sealing the button down, therefore making it unreliable.
Tin the Button with a soldering iron to make it unable to do the **** that I don't want it to do, obviously it didn't work because the Tin with the resin flux can't stick to a piece of plastic.
Disassembling the phone to manually remove the sensor, which made me realize how insane hard is the glue holding the back and I don't have a hot air pump to open it, and the Oven didn't seem like a good idea to me.
- Solutions I'm trying as you are reading this:
Making a flat piece the same size as the button in blender to print it and superglue it.
Deleting all Google bloatware from the current ROM.
Looking with SD Maid for the driver/.com/file that remotely relates to fingerprint sensor to delete it.
Probably resting because I'm tired of pulling my hair out
Edit: Oh yeah and before any smartass comes saying "Actually don't use that rom duh", I'm posting this because derpfest is a really fantastic rom and I want to keep using it, I don't want to switch to a worse rom for something that could be fixed with a piece of plastic and superglue.
