I was talking to a friend at a bar a few months back when I got my skyrocket and he had a internation Samsung GS2. He was mentioning a lot of the stuff he had done to mod his phone since I was new to androids at the time. One that stuck out that I still remember is a Better autobrightness feature. He mentioned it checked the sensor a couple times a second and somehow used less battery then the factory setting because of the way it was processed or something. I'm wondering if anyone has heard of this and if its possible for us to get it on the Gnote
Better how? How often it adjusts, or do you find the screen generally too bright or dim?
There is "Lux".. which I tried on my Nexus S.. I had noticed that the app itself, checking the brightness so often, used up quite a bit of battery life itself.. kind of a double edged sword.
Also it eats up some more of your memory as well while running..
better as in checking more frequently, theres too many times where im indoors and it looks like its on max when im in a dark room, and takes to long to brighten up when i walk outside with my phone

1) Does the white version attract dirt easily and if so is it easy to wipe it off? I know I can just get a case for it but since on the front there is a large area under the capacitive buttons and Im gonna touch that area a lot so I want to know. (Mini rant: why does it have so many visible seams, make the phone look a tard cheap)
2) How is the yellow screen issue? Has it been improved/ fixed? If I have it do you reckon it's gonna be easy to have Sony fixed it? I live in Australia btw
3) Battery life? I saw a lot of people having issues with the ICS update. My normal usage is 2-3 hours checking social networking sites, web-browsing, 2-3 hours of music, probably 15 minutes of games. Do you reckon if it's gonna be enough to last me?

1) I have the white one. It does attract a quite high quantity of dirt. The back is easy to clean. Just use a smooth humid cloth on it. For the lens, it's easier to clean it removing the back cover. The Xperia Logo on the bottom, and on the Camera, HDMI and USB logos on the sides also get dirty quite easily. The dust enters the little "depression" and get stuck in there. If someone knows a good way to clean this, please let me know.
2)It's been quite a long time since the start of the production. Until batch 14, almost all devices had it, on batches 15 and 16 it almost has gone. We must be on batches 30 or 40 by now, so no need to worry.
3)I think it's enough for me, and should be enough for you. Check the battery thread, and look at my posts to see my results.
4)Well, my carrier sucks for that. I badly can enter a corridor on my school without loosing signal. But I also had this with my old X10 MP. I think the coverage is good (not so good now, as I'm using Turkey FW, with a different baseband, but it doesn't make it unusable)
5)I always kept it on, so I can't tell the difference, really. Most people seems to have problems since the first ICS update (I also have this problem, but the screen is still awesome)

The only way I know is to open the back cover of the phone. On it, there is white sticker with info about the phone. On the right side, there is the phone model (LT26i), another info and something like this, 12Wxx, where xx is the batch, W is week and 12 is year. Mine is W10, so I have the yellow spot. Sadly can't trade as Sony Brazil is horrible.
The problem, I meant is that the Bravia Engine isn't working for most on the ICS update.

Hey there,
1. I have the black xps, my friend owns the white version. It does attract quite a bit of dirt but using a case should solve the problem. (recommend nillkin hard case)
2. Yellow screen issue - my first xps had the defect, returned it to the service centre within a week of purchase and got a replacement in 2 weeks. The batch I now have is 12w16. So if it's possible for you to find out the production batch, I recommend you get anything beyond w14.
3. Battery life - immensely dropped after the ics update. Gb battery life was amazing (I'm referring to stock firmware). The issue is due to the phone unable to get enough deep sleep when the screen is off. (culprits being - alarm manager and power saver app, they keep restarting). On stock ics, with 3G constantly on, Wifi for a few hours, display on for about 3 hours, music for 30mins,auto sync on throughout - i get about 12-15 hours of battery life. With auto sync off, I get 3-4 hours more battery life.
4. About network signal etc. The phone doesn't have any issues. But if you're in a low coverage area, it's going to drain your battery even further. One bug I've noticed is that after a few hours or sometimes a day, my data connectivity just refuses to work, in spite of it showing active with the H/3G symbol. Only solution is a restart.
5. I keep my bravia engine off most of the time, honestly I can't really tell the difference cause the screen is one of the best in the market. Love the clarity.
6. Gps - no issues. Fast and accurate.

1. I used to own a XS before upgrade to the Acro S. A white one to be exact. I used a case all the time so there was little dirt to be worry about. I'm sure you'll feel the same. The 3 touch buttons on the front was horrid though.
2. If you buy a brand new one around this time, I doubt you will ever encounter this issue.
3. Battery do fine for me. It's about 3 hours of screen time, not very impressive but not bad at all.
4. Coverage is good. I've ever lost any signal.
5. You'll see a bit different in color, less vivid to be exact but you'll get used to it in tme.
6.GPS is fast and accurate.

1)I have the older batch, so am having a yellow tint. Will send it for repair when I do have the time. As long as the bootloader is unlocked sony will gladly repaired it for you.
2)sony has said that bravia engine dont impact battery life, so u don't really need to turn it down
3)GPS is really really good, even without A-GPS( data off). Lock into position in seconds!. Must be the whole glonass thing,as other droids I use with data off,will need some time to few minutes to find me.
4)battery life,well as bad as most droids, 5 hours of screen time would drain it almost flat. But fast charging work as advertise, so plug it iN whenever possible,30 minits of charging could get it up around 50%.
5) call signal are really good, well at least I can comform it's better than samsung note,gio & s2.

Well I've seen many mixed feelings on this gear S, for the first time in years this is one device that has peeked my interest, so I picked one up having the least expectations I possibly could have and man has it truely exceeded everything I thought it would be limited to.
So my first thing I did was burn through the battery as fast as possible by trying every possible thing I could do with this thing to get the "yayyy new gadget buzz" out of me and with heavy use it'll fly through it's power source, and it sure can be a fun gadget, afterwards I gave it a full charge and changed the settings to businesses/everyday normal use (turn on when I touch, don't notify me when using my phone, 7 important notifications, always no mobile signal because i make it feed off my grandfathered unlimited plan , and etc...)so that i use it truely as a extention of my phone and not solely a stand alone(but very nice to have that option), because carrying my phone with me is standard and i don't plan on leaving it behind on purpose just to be able to so my phwatch off because it's not important that people ask me "wow what is that on your wrist" this is for my personal entertainment and use, and not to be recognized for, but anyway after a full charge and 1 day of use after changing the settings to "NO SHOW OFF MODE" LOL, I'm down from 100% to 79%, even with a few "I gotta touch this thing moments", but that alone has me well off to feeling like this is a good purchase alone.
It gives me the convenience of not having to pull my phone out to see who's calling, i have my phone on silent and when my phwatch vibrates i check my wrist and judge within a few seconds of not having to fumble around in my pockets to answer or not, same with text. There have been many time where i pull my phone out or chase my phone down in another room and get frustrated that i even had to grab it just to ignore it, or wonder why all this for nothing.
I truely think if you're looking to get this thing then you wanting it alone should be enough to justify getting it's your money spend it, you can't bury it with you, enjoy yourself, but for me it was the fact i wouldn't have to buy watches as I can change the face to my liking and soon will be able to change the straps to coordinate, and to come along with all the extra features i didn't get it for makes this feel like a steal.

Welcome aboard the exclusive Phwatch train and join the club for posers! I can 100% relate to everything you said and I think my experience on day one was exactly the same as you.
It certainly is something to show off. I have invented new (and often painful) ways to position my arm to fully maximize the chances of my friends/colleagues catching sight of it and asking about it, I am only too poised to start flicking through screens to amaze and astound them. Followed by the inevitable "How much did it cost?" of course, which when I tell them further astonishes and astounds them
I have been using the sleep app and really like it.. I normally get 4-5 hours, but now that I can see it I am up to 7 hours of sleep. It makes a difference when you can see it (at least to me)

Hmmmmm, I don't find it to be comfortable to sleep in ... Maybe they should create a comfort band specifically for sleeping.

I'm totally new here, I just installed the app a couple of hours ago and I'm pleasantly suprised by it. It's an awesome feature.
I immediately setup the function to start my flashlight, since I use the light a lot, sometimes with somewhat dirty hands and it has always been extremely annoying to touch my screen with unclean hands.
However, I noticed right away that it will be inevitable that the flashlight will start unwillingly by itself in my pocket or like at the moment while writing this proposal.
Long story short (too late for that), I think that a feature to disable the light automatically after some time that's preset by the user is crucial in order to maintain battery life. E.g. I set the timer to 60 seconds, this way when the flashlight turns on without the knowledge of the user it will turn itself off after one minute. Of course this will be a problem when the user wants the light to be on for more than a minute, however in order to sort this out, the app could determine if the phone is locked, thus eliminating the possibility to ruin desired usage.
Hope that helps and I really hope to see such a feature in future version of this awesome program!

I would have liked to have some information before falling for the Zenfone 9 and i thanks @Nexr0n; I second him with my views on the phone.
Here's my review, figuring it might be useful to others who, like me, spend their time looking at online tests and searching for the best option.
Background:
I came from a Note 9 (snapdragon) but broke the screen and while it still works, the Zenfone 9 was giving me the eye.
I didn't want to change, not finding anything in the landscape that is as qualitative and meets my criteria. Namely: good screen (especially brightness, the 120hZ was a plus, the QHD too), good speakers, a mini-jack port and a good autonomy. The Note 9 has features that are now unavailable: the clickable home button hidden under the screen, the heart sensor, the rear fingerprint reader (I like it), the notification led, etc.
The new Samsung S22 didn't have any jack or SD and despite their great screens, they seemed to me to be a regression on the points mentioned above, minor of course, but which, cumulatively, I didn't like. In particular the autonomy, which everyone thinks is bad.
I had a SONY 5 III in my sights, but the lack of brightness and the price dissuaded me. I couldn't find a new S21 anywhere else than on Rakuten, so I preferred to avoid it.
I went for the Zenfone 9. In use:
The positive:
Ultra responsive, on par with an iPhone. Going back to my Note 9 makes me realize that this is where the gap is most pronounced.
Autonomy:
I have 4 Gmail accounts, 1 exchange account, 2 SIM cards and a company email. 2 whatsapp, 2 Facebook, 1 discord. I play between 1 and 2 hours a day (clash royale, Brawl star) and I am at 75%-80% brightness.
I oscillate between 6 and 8h of SOT (related to a 100% battery, but I use the battery saving functions by charging at 80% maximum). On average, I lose 20% of battery for 1h20 of screen on.
The fingerprint reader, fast and reliable (my right thumb, my right index (when my Asus lay on the table and my left index, when i grab it with my left hand.
The recharge :
The block is provided, the cable too, and it is appreciable. The recharge is not at the level of a One Plus or an Oppo of course, but it takes me less than an hour to go from 20% to 80%. That's enough for me.
The sound quality and its power. The Dirac profiles are ... strange, games / video / cinema do not put the voices at the same level. You have to change regularly depending on what you're listening to, but there's bound to be a profile that will fit before you even bother with the equalizer. On the other hand, what they did with the feeling of having real bass (example with " clap your hands " of Kungs is bluffing). The power with the outdoor mode is quite substantial, but I imagined EVEN more and it transforms the sound, which becomes less pleasant and immediately loses the bass.
The Medium:
The screen
I love the size, I appreciate that it is flat, but the maximum brightness is below what I expected based on the advertised numbers. Side by side, while my Note 9 is very marked (I used Waze a lot, I have a huge burn-in), I feel like the samsung is still brighter than the Asus. It is also better defined, even if the white balance is better on the Zenfone side.
As a reminder: Samsung Note 9 for GSMArena (White 100% luminosity: 367 cd/m2 and 658 cd/m2 in max auto) Asus Zenfone 9 (White: 100% luminosity: 449 cd/m2 / 831 in max auto)
The quality of the photos with the native application, oversharpeing everywhere and bad color accuracy. I prefer the Gcam rendering, but we will have to tweak the application because we are not yet at the level of the Pixel !
The power of vibrations. The Note 9 is *vastly* superior
The Software:
ZenUI is less complete than Samsung, with ALL its little cool tricks (the double broadcast of a video on the phone to show something but music on a speaker for the party at the same time! - the integrated Hiya blocker to know if you're being canvassed or if it's spam when you have a call and all the possibilities offered to power users with Nicelock, Multistar, etc. It's missing).
It's related: the brightness bar is poorly done, you have to swipe down twice to get access to it (there is an option on Samsung so that it's not the case). Moreover, the curve is badly thought out, the progressiveness is not smooth enough. The automatic management of brightness is not bad, but not at the level of my Samsung.
But all in all, ZenUI is usefull and with some cool tweaks. I like Game Genie !
Given the power of the phone, I would have liked a "durable" mode that could rather downclock the processor than prevent applications from waking up with the screen off... Asus, if you read me ...
Notifications: this is probably related to the versions of android and the QHD screen but I had a LOT more notifications on a much smaller space on the Samsung, it was really better. With the Asus, every single notification takes up half of my panel ! Is it a toy or a phone ?!
It's not very important for some, but the jack port on the top of the phone is more restrictive than the bottom, as a rule. I sometimes put my headphones on in the car to listen to stuff while the kids are asleep, the wire sticks up over my phone, it's less convenient. When you're walking around town listening to podcasts, taking it out of your pocket and having to use both hands to put it in the right direction to unlock it, that's handling that was unnecessary with the Note. Manipulations that increase the risk of dropping it.
The negative:
Stand by time:
Turning off the internet at night + having checked that nothing is running in the background, I go from 62% to 52% battery between 11pm and 8am... I'll test in airplane mode, but this loss seems huge !
When i play Genshin Impact, not even in performance mode, it runs HOT !
USB 2.0 ? really ? It was not so long to perform a transfer of my 30k photos from my samsung to my Asus but nevertheless, it was nearly painfull ! Thanksfully my 256 go are in UFS 3.1 !
All in all, I find it a bit expensive for what it is although I'm not disappointed. But if I could, I think I would have waited for a smartphone with the Snapdragon 8 gen 2.
Or go back to Samsung on the mid-range to keep a decent screen but benefit from the jack and micro SD.
What is the ideal price that you consider for this smartphone?
I think 699€ for the 8/128 go and 749€ for the 8/256go were a much better deal.

in any case there will always be positive and negative points.
The positive point of this phone is the compact size (that's all I can say because I don't own it)
I will sell my pixel 6 pro to buy this phone.
For the p6pro that I have had since its release I can say these following:
the phone gets hot in normal use (music, YT). I said it heats up not burns....
The photo quality is very good, a little downside as to the telefoto that for me does not make a miracle (unlike the s21 ultra)
here is a short opinion and that engages only me obviously....

I am really puzzled between this ZF9 and Galaxy S22. My favor is towards ZF9 but there is of course a price difference as well. So maybe i would like to hear what would you pick

If you want better screen and photos in a manageable size with software which can do anything, s22.
Go for the ZF9 for really good battery life, micro jack and cool form factor with ultra snappy experience without stutter.
And if i were you... , i'd wait for the S23

That was originally my plan, but my current phone Sony Xperia XZ1 Compact is technically dying after 5yrs so urgently need a new phone i think i would give it a try. And will see later what the S23 will bring us. Thanks a lot for you opinion.

I'm also not a big fan of the cloud, what's been working great for me is Syncthing, FOSS peer to peer solution for local file sharing, set it up on your computer or home server if you've got one and you can sync over whatever files you want to it (automatically when there's changes).

There is a durable mode, even an "ultra" durable mode. You can find it in the same spot as performance mode or with the "system modes" switch in the pull down drawer.
Notifications: this is probably related to the versions of android and the QHD screen but I had a LOT more notifications on a much smaller space on the Samsung, it was really better. With the Asus, every single notification takes up half of my panel ! Is it a toy or a phone ?!

There is a smaller notifications option, you do have to pull down the shade for quick actions (pretty seamless with the smart key gesture) but it does fix the problem.
It's not very important for some, but the jack port on the top of the phone is more restrictive than the bottom, as a rule. I sometimes put my headphones on in the car to listen to stuff while the kids are asleep, the wire sticks up over my phone, it's less convenient. When you're walking around town listening to podcasts, taking it out of your pocket and having to use both hands to put it in the right direction to unlock it, that's handling that was unnecessary with the Note. Manipulations that increase the risk of dropping it.

This only really applies when not charging the phone but you can flip the screen upside down, everything dodges the hole punch well. That's what I've been doing since i agree, bottom jacks are far superior.
Turning off the internet at night + having checked that nothing is running in the background, I go from 62% to 52% battery between 11pm and 8am... I'll test in airplane mode, but this loss seems huge !

Asus seems to have every standby battery draining feature turned on by default. Once you go in and turn stuff you aren't using off it's noticeable improvement.

Ha ha, you're kind. Please re-read my tought on that because I know, i'm always in "durable mode" ! I'd wanna speak about the effects of this mode.

Thanks man, but i'm a power user, i fined tune my phone. I turn stuff i'm not using... and "do not disturb" AND "airplane mode" AND "clean memory" AND "auto ultra durable mode from 2:00 am to 5:00 am" just before i sleep ... and my Zenfone 9 keeps a pretty bad standby mode at night (~0,5 - 0,8 % /h).

I lose 3-4% over 8 hours with just DND and Ultra Durable.
Same for me (or even less) with the update now.
