There are user reported in Sony official forum that they received new firmwave update 55.0.A.6.16, anyone receive the update? Any improvement and changes in changelog?
No changelog as Sony tends to not release changelog. One thing for sure is that it contains the August security update. So far, it's released only in RU and UA (J9110) and EE UK (J8110).
Hoping for a lot of improvements, especially that they bumped the version number from 0.A.2 to 0.A.6.
Prepare to be disappointed... again
I received the August update for J9110. The file size was about 100MB, so it's just a security update.

I am so disappointed in software treatment of Xperia 1.
So far no pics in 21:9 no matter mid rangers like X10 has it... No 4k 60 fps recording. No pics quality improvement, no bug fixes for 4k video stabilization... No night mode or improvement to overblown light sources.
Not only camera. No fixes to nothing, just a poor copy paste of Google's security patch...
Hence no changelog (in fact there is no any other change).
I think this may be my last Xperia device after so many years being loyal to this brand...

Phones only been out a couple months, give it time
Only change I noticed is the time it takes the camera to process a picture, 2 sec now.

In the changelog, it says there are camera fixes in tow...has anyone tested out the camera to see if the whitebalancing and low-light picture quality has improved at all? I have a lumia 900...but hopefully we get the same camera fix you guys are getting!

Where did you read that changelog?
Tango update brings these features/fixes:
Update 7.10.8773.98
Messaging. Adds new messaging capabilities to your phone. You can now attach multiple pictures, videos, audio notes, and ringtones to text messages.
SIM card. Adds features related to SIM card contacts. You can now export phone contacts to a SIM card and selectively import SIM card contacts to your phone.
Other quality improvements. Includes many other improvements to Windows Phone.

So I have to say that I bought an n9 a few weeks ago, cuz I needed tethering ASAP. Even with the Tango update, the Lumia 800 camera is sooooo underwhelming compared to n9.
On continuous shutter, the Lumia 800 has 2-3 sec between shots. The n9 sounds like a pro camera click click click.
Of course, there are trade offs between the two. I just want to put my 800 and n9 face to face, make them kiss, and then squish them together into the perfect unit.
I think I might have seen it on the changelog for the Nokia update post-tango, but maybe not, why can't they make it as good as the N9!!

Partly because the n9 has a different lens structure with a wider aperture. It can take a much faster photo cuz it lets in so much more light.
The z3V camera is disappointing to me. The Sony pixel interpolation software leaves a lot to be desired. A close up of a 20MP photo in sunlight reveals terrible cluster shadows and jaggies. Everyone knows (or should) that a 1/2.3" sensor cannot physically hold 20MP. (More like about 8.2.) Even when the size is set to 8 MP it looks terrible.
I've helped port some Canon P&S cameras on the CHDK forums years back. We got them to do focus and meter bracketing, added manual focusing, intervalometer, manual iso settings, etc, which were not options offered on any pocket camera back then. We also got them to save files uncompressed and untouched by software as .tiff files. The raw files show the true sensor size in the exif data, and allow post processing software of your choice. They come out far superior to what any in-camera software does.
Can someone add the ability to save photos taken by the z3V as .tiff or raw files? Currently I use Camera VF-5 which gives a decent UI and a few manual controls. But there are some manual controls missing -in other words, the z3V doesn't have the hardware to support all of the functions the app can. Seems the only thing this camera has going for it as far as bragging rights is the 20MP capability, and is not even that good.
Bump for another try...
Well in lollipop there is raw support. Sony needs to add it via a update. Which they are currently asking if users want
Sent from my D6708 using Tapatalk
I've read that Sony is asking that since posting this. But I also read that many many phones are not working with RAW, as in Lollipop uses code that the markets need to release compatible firmware to make use of it?
I just combed through a year long thread of exhausting work done by devs on this and their site got shut down because someone said it was malware.
Stay put, you should see the attachment in my latest thread that I have of the Z3v.

If you look at his official lollipop at the end of January post.. His first post the opening ones has 2 attachments. He has the z5 camera on his z3v with a much bigger expansion of options for the camera.
If do a Google for "Z5 camera apk" you will find the port and that it is buggy still.
The z5 camera itself doesn't support RAW files. AFAK Sony hasn't implemented it yet.
I personally like the ui of the older camera that's on the z3V. I installed the z5 last week and the ui is awful. Everything that the current z3V camera has worked fine. But no RAW without some writing it in somehow I guess.
I have to assume (hope) that's what GigaSPX is working on.
I believe that, because of the hardware, the z3 camera is capable of producing fantastic RAW files for manual post editing. The in-device software crunches the photo to hell and back.
I just tried to find out how many pixels are on this sensor, and there are indeed 20.3MP. (So my initial post in this thread is all wrong in that regard...).
But the sensor size means the pixels are extremely small and light becomes a real problem.
According to Techspot, The iPhone 6 8MP sensors individual pixels are capable of processing 88% more light than those of the Sony z3 sensor. The iPhone 6 sensor is smaller than the Z3V sensor, but the individual pixel size is much larger.
Sure, when you try to supersize the iPhone photo you'll start to see individual pixels, but when you supersize the Sony picture you see patches of pixels muddled together. Somehow it's even worse.
The ability to capture in DNG will be a refreshing compromise for a limited piece of hardware that is on the higher end of the phone spectrum.

I was surprised my other thread was locked out due to it going off topic before I could say something to bring it back to being on topic again. Here was what I wanted to reply to everyone in regards to the assumptions:
I appreciate all your guys support, but I've never once admitted to being a developer. I'm currently a 5th year senior finishing my bachelors in business and busy running part of the family business that's in no way related to development. I'd definitely love to learn but I'd definitely consider later on in the year. For now, I just help out with other users who share their time in making the most use out of the Z3v. :highfive:
Oh and there isn't RAW support since it really is up to Sony to add that on there.
And to @1linuxfreak:
Although I'm no dev, I've partaken in many trials of Android mods and actually a few customized ROMs from the Z3v from another user. Of those many times, I've had softbricked my phone, and broke a lot of things within my phone, such as calling. It was a frustrating day to figure out what went wrong when I can make calls, but not fully receive calls from important people that day.
As for the Z5 Camera mod made specially to be compatible for the Z3v, I am pushing that time to the end of the month in case there is an official OTA so I can bundle everything together for an easy jump to the official Lollipop. Otherwise if it's another flopped announcement, I will make the zip available.
I'll tell everyone this though, unlocking the bootloader is no easy feat. There were times that it came close, but ultimately hard bricked for Verizon warranty. This person you should thank for making his several attempts and actually got booted from Verizon's insurance is @zachariahpope .
hey there,

No
Only the Z3 and the Z3C have Android 6 beta (Marshmallow Concept) at the moment.
Sony is taking lot of time to release 6.0. I hope they:
- improve the camera firmware for the Z5 camera
- fix auto brightness bug with the colors (already announced)
- implement fingerprint sensor using standard Android APIs and not custom Sony stuff.

To the things you mentioned above, they got many bugs to fix across the board. Let alone the kernel contains many bugs.
Plus, the kernel's CPU power management changed if they updated the kernel to a newer CAF branch (which i suppose they did),
and it takes time for them to refactor hotplug etc.. to the updated scheduler (very likely there will be more than 1 A57 online in 6.0+)
and correctly setup stuff.
It's better they take their time and release a relativly stable firmware >>upgrade, and not a rushed firmware which ends up being worse than Lollipop.
I agree with you Tommy but I think they should have developed a Concept for the Z5 too.
The Z5 Lollipop firmware have some terrible bugs like the auto brightness bug. That should have been fixed a few months ago.
I honestly think that without a proper concept firmware we are going to have a buggy 6.X just like the current 5.1.1
I appreciate all the other info you mentioned from CAF by the way.

ok, we'll wait then I guess
Not yet.
Time is not a matter. I hope they release a great working update next time
Xperiablog reported that it seems the Marshmallow update for the Z4 Tablet is being delayed, so I find it quite likely that the one for the Z5 phones is delayed as well. I would be surprised if it arrives before the middle of February.

I think he refer to this news. "Good news coming from Turkey, namely the Facebook profile of the company. It appears to have begun the roll out of Android 6.0 Marshmallow to the range Z5 . At the moment there seems to be a bit ‘of traffic on servers but the OTA was sent and is therefore only a matter of hours or at most a few days."
Unfortunately, we can't confirm whether or not it is true or fake. It's very unlikely Turchey will get it first. Turchey is the country who used F-16 to shoot down Russia SU-25 last year.
I am from Turkey and unfortunately there is no any OTA MM update yet.
It was March last year when the z3c got the lollipop update. I'll say same for z5 line and MM. Sony is officially terrible with updates.

Well, after about about a 2 week wait, my new device came yesterday, and so far, it's been a dream to use.
I was able to basically import everything over from my V10 (actually a backup from last week) that had stopped working (for a second time).
It's currently wanting to do a a kernel update (or something) so, while I'm scared, I'll let it run.
Prior to the update (which will be finished probably in an hour) these are my settings:
Model: LG-H870DSU
Rev: 1.2
Android Version: 7.0
Patches: 1 June 2017
Kernel: 3.18.31
Build: NRD90U
Software: V10b-HKG-XX
So, I'll let you know how it goes, but, so far, this phone is great. It's fast, camera works amazingly.
With the exception of the lack or IR port and removable battery, and this funny hybrid slot, it's very similar to the V10, but I'm thinking it's much better. Snappier and hopefully no boot-loops in the future.
The update version is: V10f-AUG-03-2017
Size: 755.98MB
Update Summary:
1. Phone Usability and functionality has been further improved.
Post Update:
Latest now since the updates these are the changes:
Patches: 1 August 2017
Software: V10f-HKG-XX
Camera still works. So I'm happy.
Installed this update on my G6+ today, don't know if it's me but my feeling is the phone is a little slower than before.
I am still waiting for my ordered nano-SIM to be delivered to fully migrate on my new phone. I will use it in dual SIM mode.
So I cannot give a proper feedback at the moment for a daily use of the phone.
Nonetheless I am pretty happy with the phone overall look and feel so far.
Enjoy your phone.
I updated H870DSU to fw V10j (HKG-XX) yesterday, OTA. Everything OK, all data & apps still there :]. Battery life seems to be a little bit better (compared to V10j), but it will takes a few days to be sure.
I have g6+ h870dsu on V10f-HKG-XX and I'm looking for update because of some bugs(battery drain sometimes, no notification of covering lens, always on sometimes fails to turn on). Is this version V10j (HKG-XX) stable? What about battery life, improvement of front camera, bugs? Is that version better? The front camera on g6+ is much worst than on european H870 version on v10j EUR-XX and my screen is yellowish vs European H870.

I haven't seen any bugs. No yellow screen that I've noticed.
Battery life is ok. Just don't have lots of things running in the background.
Front camera is not as sharp as the rear camera.
It works great though.

Can someone explain to me the logic behind Huawei's decision to skip over the 161 update for many markets, and only giving us the 168 update that brings nothing but the June security patch?
We were promised that camera tweaks are on the way, and I was desperate for this update as I find this camera, and as great as it is, to be inconsistent in terms of colors and exposure. But after weeks of waiting, we got an update that delivers no tweaks and improvements to the cameras or the performance and UI of the phone.
I'm starting to get sick of Huawei's decision to spoil some markets with their software, like China for example, and screwing the majority of the world with their slow, and in this case, meaningless updates. The OnePlus 7 Pro, Note 10, or the next Pixel 4 are looking like a great option if Huawei keeps on going with such pace in regards to updates.

Not with it's latest update. And even without the update, you can easily install a Gcam port that gives you pretty close pictures to those you get from the Pixel.
Anyways, I'm not saying I'm ditching my P30 Pro in the coming few days, but Huawei's update policy is slowly pushing me out of their door.

I got version 168 yesterday; yes no camera improvement was mentioned in the change log, but I noticed the difference in terms of quality especially in 5x-10x zoom. I like the color now compare in the previous version. Maybe they skipped 161 due to over exposure of highlights (like sky) when you took a photo

Again, that's impossible, as the 168 update is only a security patch update. It's size is 124mb for a reason, it didn't even bring performance improvements.
Anyways, you can go to settings/software update/current version, and you can see that it's only for updating the security patch.

It doesn't mean that when it's security patch is listed, it doesn't have camera improvement.
I've observed how huawei works their OTA, they don't usually list all fixes in the changelog even in my P10 at Mate 10 pro before because I monitor changes in firmware finder app before the actual release
Camera app is less 60Mb only and it only need few tweaks to improve.
130Mb is big enough for many minor tweaks

Bro, why are you debating something that you can easily find on XDA and Huawei forums? Huawei themselves, said that the reason why many markets didn't get the 161 that is focused on bringing camera improvements, is because it has compatibility issues with phones released outside of China and the few markets that will receive it. The 168 update is only, and again, only been pushed to bring the latest security patch.
You can even sideload the latest version of the camera app, but you will see zero improvements in image processing, as the improvements were only pushed in the 161 and 162 updates.

I hate to be that guy, but here is your comment on this subject under another post, admitting that this update is just about bringing the June security patch, and that's it.
And you're a photographer, not a prophet. You can be wrong about tbings.
I tested the camera before and after.
Huawei released the full changelog about this update.
Huawei themselves explained why not all markets are getting the update that improves the image processing on this phone.
The web is full of forums discussing this, and you're the 1st person to claim that a 124mb has made the camera on his phone take better pictures.
I respect that you're a photographer, but that doesn't mean your words can't be flase. All the above points prove that this updats has nothing to do with image processing.

I'm quite annoyed too, I was expecting the upgrade with the 161 camera improvements, but directly to the 168, there is no way to manually install the 161?
I'm on the .161 if I update to the latest fw I'll lost the camera improvements?
One thing you can do is download full firmware 168 and see if the new camera update exist in the firmware.
Got the update today without the improvement, will do later today a full firmware flash via erecovery to check if the new camera is included.

No don't worry, you won't, lucky you :/
Hopefully we'll get this camera update and won't be left out.

We only have to pray and wait hahaha
Isnt the camera just an app? there's no way for someone with .309 to pull it from the phone and post it?

You can, matter of fact, I installed the 309 version, and nothing has changed. The improvements in image processing are brought through the software update, not the camera app itself.
