Honor 8x dead, won't turn on nor charge - Honor 8X Questions & Answers

Hello, hopefully you can help me to troubleshoot my problem.
I've purchased a Honor 8x (64GB+4 RAM, SJN-L23, International version - no warranty) on May for my wife as mother's day present, the phone has been great until yesterday... she was using it regularly, suddenly the screen was frozen so she turned off the phone, what was weird is that the phone shut down without the classic "Shut down or restart" query, after that the phone won't turn on, the phone had enough charge (around 40%).
As a classic troubleshoot, I tried several combinations of: press power button for 10+ seconds, press volume down+power button 10+ seconds, volume up+power button 10+ seconds, actually the 10+seconds went up to a few minutes pressed with no success.
I left the phone overnight charging, although no light was turned on (we tried with other phones and the charger/cable was working properly) and re-tested with the several-button combinations with no success as well
I tried to contact amazon and they were not able to refund for my item since the purchase was almost three months ago, and I'm not able to send it for service with Huawei since is the "No-warranty" version, this is actually the third Honor (5x, 6x now 8x) "international version No-warranty" the other two still working like a charm.
I refuse to have a $200 brick, so if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks in advance for your help!!!
Greetings from Mexico.

I think Amazon should replace the phone if it was a direct Amazon sale and not Marketplace.

Thanks for your reply, I've contacted Amazon and unfortunately there is no way to return the item according to their policies so I'm stuck with a ~3 months old brick.
Since the phone is almost lost I'm not afraid of give it a shot, I will disassemble it in order to "remove" the battery (unhook the ribbon cable from the PCB), I've recovered some old phones that way hopefully does the trick.

Had to get my phone replaced!

Had to get my one day old Nokia 800 replaced today.
Got everything setup last night and decided to power it off just to give it a restart. The phone would refuse to power back on. No amount of button pushing/reconnecting to the power would make it start up again. No power, nothing..dead.
I managed to get it to restart after performing the three button reset. No problem I thought maybe just a one off. Turned the phone off and put it on charge overnight and this morning the same problem returned.. Could not power on. This time the reset would not work at all, no matter how many times I tried.
Carphone warehouse swapped it over in store today for another handset. Hopefully I'll have more luck with the replacement.
Edit: already seen someone else mention a similar problem on here. Hope there's not a bigger issue.
How do you perform the three button reset? My phone randomly decided to turn off whilst I was driving and now it wont turn back on
Yes I've been in that spot as well. For five minutes the phone wouldn't respond to any power button press. Long, short, whatever. I was already starting to slide into panic mode when it suddenly came back alive on another short press.
It's not the only hardware problem I've encountered, I also have problems with touchscreen and buttons and a loose part inside the device.

Black Screen wont turn on but my computer detects it

My friend that I bought the Asus prime for, asked me if I could take a look at his prime.
Here is the screnario:
Listening to radio station app, screen went to sleep while the radio was still playing and he tried holding the power button down and nothing worked to reboot or wake up the prime. The Prime was left playing to drain down the battery. It has all its recent updates (.15), not rooted, and not unlocked. When I looked at it, I charged it up, I can see the light and turned green to full battery status. I can feel the prime vibrate as I hold the power button, I tried volume + power hold, tried the hard reset with the paper clip hearing the click next to the sd card slot holding it for 10-30 seconds. The laptop can see the folder in the prime as i hold the power button and also disconnects when i power down. ordered 12-28 from best buy so the return window has expired and its a BC0K serial number.
Anybody find a solution with a black screen prime that just vibrates and can be seen on the laptop before I send it for an RMA?
Was there any shock to the device? A small bump or anything, it sounds like the ribbon cable for the screen has become disconnected, there are some reports of this on the forums.

This + have you went into recovery?
maybe try draining the battery again then charging up. ive seen a few post issue like this. if screen connection didn't break, then letting it drain again and charging up might fix it. good luck!
Actually, the prime was already drained maybe a total of 3 times. There was no shock to the device as it was working with the radio app on and when it was being listened to while it was on the bed, the screen went into sleep and could not wake up no matter what button was being pushed so the prime was left to drain its battery. My friend didnt know how to reboot, so he decided to left the battery to drain. Could the radio playing + sleep of death + battery drainage caused the permanent screen sleep? Too bad I dont have the micro hdmi connector to see if i can isolate the screen as the problem.
yup the micro hdmi would help a lot probably. But if your PC recognizes it I suggest you back up data that you need then try to do a blind factory reset so you can get rid of any non oem app installed including that radio app if any of them is whats causing the screen not to turn on.
1. Hold volume down then press and hold power.
2. When you feel it vibrate (this could take up to 10 seconds if the tablet was already on) wait another 5 seconds and then release both buttons.
3. After you release wait another 5 seconds (dont wait too long here or it will reboot on its own if you dont select anything after about 10 seconds) then press volume down 1 time and volume up 2 times.
4. The tablet will factory wipe and after another 10 seconds it will reboot.
If the tablet still wont turn on then you got another issue and that isnt caused by the radio app or any other app.
Didnt work. It just vibrated and the screened stayed black... Im wrapping this puppy up and bringing shipping it to the repair center. Thanks anyways.
Vibrates when power button is held but wont turn on
My Prime also has the basic problem. I use it daily for about 3 to 4 hours, reading replying to e-mails and web browsing. While I was reading, the volume started going up on its own and I noticed that even after I put in standby mode, the battery discharged so I shut it down completely.
After that I could not turn it on. When I hold down the power button it vibrates bit the screen does not come on even after I fully charged till the led turns green.

Had to RMA back to Asus for them to fix the display and it took about a week. Warranty covered it, but if you do RMA ask them to ship you a shipping label. You shouldnt have to pay for shipping it to them for a manufacturer defect. And take pics and videos of the tablet and packing for your safety. They just need the tablet and nothing else. Good luck
Asus is F-ing with my endorphines...
I've had my TF201 since March 30th. Been using it for 1 week and it suddenly went dead (nothing on the screen, no vibration if I held the power button down). Tried everything I could find on the forums, it didn't work so I sent it to repairs (not immediately, cuz I had more important stuff to do). They kept it for almost 3 weeks, got it back this last Monday (May 21st) and... it died out on me again yesterday night (after just 3 days of use, congratulations ASUS technicians!). I was simply browsing and I clicked on the icon to increase the luminosity to the maximum supported (IPS+, I was charging it at the time) and the screen suddently went black. Like "nothing visible on it" black.
After that, I tried numerous times to reset it (including the volume+power down, according to the indications in this thread) - all I could get from it was the vibration as if it starts. Nothing else popping up on the screen. I plugged it this morning into my computer and it got somehow recognized, cuz my W7 tried installing drivers for it (even tho it had recognized the tablet again after it came from repairs and I already had drivers for it installed) but failed with the error "APX - no driver found".
I've had enough. Two months already and only one week and half of actual use. It's pathetic, ASUS needs to be taught a lesson, so I'm calling Consumer Protection in my country and the European Consumer Protection Comission. All the forums that I've surfed are filled with reports of broken units and ASUS will just tell you "if you have a valid warranty we'll repair it for free". I DON'T ****ING NEED regular repairs every 2 weeks!!! I need a functional tablet that I can use or give me my money back!
I'll post the results of my tribulations here...
I had a user that suffered the blank screen.
When you think it's presumably on. Try a paperclip to the reset hole on the left side. His came back up at that point and hasn't done it again since.
Never had this happen on mine.

Z5c doesn't turn on - bricked?

Hello,
I bought a Z5c in black a week ago. I did not use it up to now as primary phone, I was barely using it. The day before yesterday I was using it until Battery was empty, after that I was charging it. It was approx. 24h at the charger. Yesterday it did not turn on. I tried now 3 different Chargers (Original, 5 Port 2A, Surface 3 Pro Charger) and 4 different cables, nothing happens. The screen stays off, the LED doesn't turn on.
When it was still on I did not root / hack / flash the phone or whatsoever. I only installed some apps and played some games. It did not get in contact with water or sweat, it did not drop or something. It was mostly lying arround.
Do you have any Idea? I tried to push that small off button next to the SIM, nothing. Pressing On Button for 10s+, nothing.
Tnx already!
Cheers
Have you tried another outlet ?

Hey,
yes, even at home and at work. I also tried my Laptop, nothing happens...
I was just in contact with the Sony Hotline. The support asked me to press Vol+ and Power, but nothing happened. I also tried Vol- and Camera Button together with Power Button, nothing happens
Cheers
Small Update: Got it back from Sony, its working again. I got my phone back, not a replacement. The Letter with the repaired phone says nothing about what was repaired. But I can see that the back of the Phone was removed somehow as my attached protection foil has now some dirt below it that werent there before.
Lets hope that from now on my Z5c doesn't give up that quick any more

My Galaxy View won't turn on

I've had my View since 9/16. I use it everyday for probably 6 hours or more. Every night I turn it off and plug it into the factory charger. I tried to turn it on the other day and it will not turn on. I'm a geek so I've tried everything I can find on the web and Samsung's site to get it to work. I contacted Samsung and they've sent me a label to send it back to them for their evaluation and price to fix.
A couple questions for other forum members:
1. Has this happened to anybody else?
2. Anybody had the battery die? I've put a lot of hours on mine...
3. Anybody had any experience with Samsung service?
Thanks for any feedback...
Larry
I have not had this happen to the View, but I have had it happen to a few other devices when I used to test devices for a wireless carrier. This can happen when the battery is "too dead". If the battery drops below a vital level then it can fail to start up into the charging boot screen. If it was on the charger, it's possible that your charger failed and caused a parasitic loss to the tablet. This is, perhaps, the worst problem with non-removable batteries. Sometimes you can hold the power button down while plugged in and it will start charging again. I assume you have purchased, or already have, a second charger, to rule out it being a charger issue. To have any chance of this method working, you will likely need to hold the power button for at least 10 min while attempting to charge. Basically the concept is that you are trying to get the power to flow to the battery even while it can't boot the charging screen kernel.
Thanks for your detailed reply. I really appreciate it. And I did try another charger. Didn't try holding down the power button for 10 minutes, but I get your point. I contacted Samsung and they provided a 2nd Day Air return label, which I thought was generous for a tablet out of warranty. So it's on its way to them to evaluate and give me an estimate to repair. I'll post when I hear back from them. Thanks, again, for your reply.
Samsung discovered my motherboard needed to be replaced. Cost $109 including shipping both ways and it seems to be working just fine. Of course now I have to get everything set up again. I thought the price was reasonable - a heck of a lot cheaper than a new one.

I've changed the Power Button, but it kept not working

Hi, there! Last year I was using a Vibe K5, but I bought another one because of this problem: all of nowhere the Power Button stopped working. I did factory reset, I've bought a new "strap" with the volume and power button on it, changed, perfectly. But, even though I did all of this, the volume kept working, the power button don't.
Today I decided to try another search on Google and save this phone, but again... nothing.
Any help on this?
Hey, don't know if this of help at this point. This is a common problem with this model. I was facing the same issues and even purchased the same volume and power button strip but I soon realised that id got the wrong one. I took it to the repair shop and after fiddling around a little bit worked on The same damaged strip and brought it back to life. It took around 5 mins in total. I'd suggest you take it to a local repair person (although 90% of them will ask for a new strip) and ask them to fix it without you having to get a new one.
