Besides PPSSPP and Dolphin (Gamecube & Wii) are there other emulators that people have tested on the switch?
Personally, I'd like to see PS2 emulation, but I know it's a bit of a stretch. :silly:
Also, what are some favorites that play well on the switch?
I ask for discussion since there isn't a thread around.
Drastic and the Beta of Redream should work well.
I guess DamonPS2 should be able to play some lighter games reasonably but don't expect too much.
These are the emulators I have downloaded that I can personally confirm work:
-SNES9X, runs all of the SNES games I have flawlessly.
-Mupen64Pluz FZ, runs all of the N64 games I have flawlessly.
-My OldBoy!, runs all GB and GBC games I have flawlessly.
-My Boy!, runs all GBA games I have flawlessly.
-Dolphin MMJ, does not run all Gamecube games I have flawlessly. (further information below)
-nds4droid, does not run all DS games I have flawlessly. (further information below)
-PPSSPP, runs all PSP games I have flawlessly.
-Redream, runs all Dreamcast games I have flawlessly.
I wasn't able to get the regular Dolphin emulator to run Gamcube games, let alone even install Wii games. The Dolphin MMJ version has some lag, but I don't know the proper optimization through settings that is required to get it to run flawlessly. Other users have posted that theirs work flawlessly, but I haven't seen an extensive list of the settings they use.
Nds4droid lags with the Pokemon games. I've tried to download over 15 different DraStic DS emulator APK files and none have worked for me. They kept displaying an error message of not having something. I can't recall exactly off the top of my head at the moment.
Could someone create a foolproof guide in text or video format as to how to get Dolphin and DraStic to run properly?

Well I'd imagine all retro stuff to work flawlessly. Probably everything in the retroarch set really. Really hoping GZDoom and Morrowind work flawless on android as well, while not an emulator nor engine on thing I'm kinda looking forward to is Zenonia and Chaos Rings, should it actually run
As for setting up Dolphin; there's this at least

If someone gets Morrowind running, I'd definitely be interested in playing that as I've never played it before.
Unfortunately, that tutorial doesn't help me because I didn't need the Octopus application since the Joy Con fix works with Dolphin MMJ. I'm referring to the graphical and enhancement settings in Dolphin.

DraStic runs perfectly bought from the playstore.
DraStic works fine for me, too. It does show some kind of an pop-up error at the beginning, but the emulator itself works fine afterwards.
When it comes to other emulators besides DraStic:
PPSSPP: Played only Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, emulator is working great, although SW: TFU does have *some* slowdowns (but this is the same across all platforms, so very probably not a performance issue), but overall completely playable.
When it comes to games:
Star Wars: KOTOR: I am using version 1.0.9 (from Amazon Appstore) and it works perfectly (including gamepad right out of the box).
GTA: San Andreas: Working fine, but the sticks are not working for movements. Buttons work fine.
Half-Life 2: Native Tegra version, works perfectly fine.
Will continue to edit this post.

Remember, F-Droid is a thing, my friend. Just like a brother above, we're not limited to Google stuff, I for one, have no intention to use Google stuff. I'll be using FDroid, Aurora Store and Amazon c:
https://f-droid.org/packages/com.libopenmw.openmw/ I do believe this uses SDL for joysticks.
My list of emulators are as follows; for everything else I use retroarch.
PSX:
Epsxe - nice psx emulator, works exactly how you would imagine a box standard emulator to work and does the job quite well. Can’t say any downsides to this emulator
Fpse: my favourite out of the two, upscales into HD and even forces a widescreen that doesn’t end in a stretched out mess. Honestly this emulator will make tekken 3 look like tekken 6 (a slight over exaggeration but it’s worth it). The downside is there is no free version and it’s gonna cost you a couple of quid/dollars.
Dreamcast:
Reicast- it works as well as it’s lakka version only this time you can dock the switch for TV. Has a widescreen hack and looks quite nice in places although some textures don’t work right (shenmue need more than a plaster to cover that hole in his face). Downsides are some games don’t work.
Redream - works great, all games I’ve tried run fine including stupid invaders (if that’s what you’re into) that being said, that game doesn’t get past the Sega logo in reicast so this emulator offers more support! I can’t remember if you have to pay for it though and just like reicast it doesn’t support “win ce” games like resident evil 2.
PS2:
Damonps2 - runs a little worse than dolphin, I haven’t found a single game I could consider as playable in that emulator but it shows promise and apparently is due an upgrade that will offer a lot of speed up. This emulator has seen some controversy because the dev ripped off code from the pc version of psx2 and I believe there’s some lawsuit involved. Has the most drawbacks. The free version won’t let you save and the paid version asks for your **** size amongst all over personal data as well as it won’t work if you’re offline or use the xposed frame network. It also shuts itself if you have Magisk installed. To get it to work again you have to hide the application with Magisk hide.
DS:
Drastic - you might have to pay but damn is it worth it. Looks amazing and can swap your screens instantly by pressing the thumb sticks in, not so great for games that utilise both screens at once like Sonic Rush but plays great!!
Like I say everything else I use retroarch for.

For PSX I'd honestly recomend RetroArch (Both android and HorizonOS). It already has Upscaling and it's free. As for Tekken 3 to Tekken 6, I'd yet to find out, haha.
I'm Glad that the Dreamcast works great!! Do you have any recommendations?
PS2- I kinda expected that. Have you tried the Play! Emulator?
DS- Can you do anti aliasing or Upscaling?
I'm currently in the process of getting it on the switch (Had a week long exam) but I'll gladly report any findings I get as well.

Well it’s the widescreen hack that sells Fpse for me, epsxe has one but the graphics flicker a bit. Although I think epsxe runs games better, I do get graphical issues when using the gl plugin. (Tekken 6 for PSP... at a push haha).
I’d recommend using redream for Dreamcast as it offers more support. I’m a big fan of the sonic games and hey run perfectly. I have a lot of fighters on there to and it’s much easier to set up 2 player with redream.
I haven’t managed to get play! working yet, retroarch crashes when I boot it and any app I’ve installed from google searches don’t work or are fake (or maybe I’m doing something wrong).
Yes, the DS can do anti aliasing, I can’t describe how nice they look upscaled. Especially the more 3D heavy games, run really smooth too! Loads of options, i’d Recommend having a look at a few reviews, but it runs amazing in the switch.
I’ve recently downloaded arc browser after a few days of trying to fathom the very poor tutorials of setting up Hyperspin. It’s a nice GUI to load all your games for different emulators in one app. It’s nice to look through all my roms with added cover art and fan art, it does cost like £8 though.
I will add that all emulators I’ve tried to run made by “Robert Broglia” like MD.EMU and Neo Geo emulators do not work in docked mode, it’s almost as though the apps themselves just don’t understand what it is. I managed to get a Sega CD game running through MD.emu docked when I loaded the game through arc browser and it loads and plays and then crashes when you exit making it so you have to undock and redock the switch.
Dolphin works fine for me but the remapping of control for Wii doesn't want to stick after i launch a game. When it does it seems to forget half of the remapping. Anybody else?

Are you certain about the version of KOTOR? I purchased first from Google Play and received version 1.0.6 which hangs, then bought it from Amazon Appstore and received version 1.0.7 which appears to be the latest currently available and it isn't loading fully either.

MAME on the NOOK - Suggestions?
Tried to look up a few but have not been successful. Really looking to play Street Fighter Alpha 3 and Street Fighter 3. Anyone have experience or recommendations for this?
I've got A3 running on Tiger Mame (can be found in the market). I haven't had much luck getting all of the controls to show up though (the bottom three buttons are cut off). As for Third Strike, that's a CPS3 game. I'm not sure if there's a CPS3 emulator out there for Android yet. I'm gonna keep looking, I'll update what I find.
Tiger seems to only support newer games (neogeo,cps2 etc). I'm an old guy who wants the classics. I find it hard to believe there's not a mame version out there. Maybe off-market? I want my galaga, digdug, asteroids, fat bobby, hopping mappy, violence fight Sent from my Nookcolor
I am using both CPS2HD (CPS2) and Jrioni Arcade (MAME - runs only older 0.34/0.35b dumps ala GP2X) for my arcade fix on my current Samsung Galaxy S, the onscreen controls are not bad but don't expect any serious play with combos, advanced techniques, etc. Unfortunately my NC has not arrived yet for me to test it out.

Perhaps I move it to the default directory that Tiger lists? If Bluetooth ever becomes fully enabled and we could tether Wiimote, the Nook color would become ultimate.
Best playstation emulator?
Are there any playstation emulators that are working on the galaxy tab 10.1? All of them seem to have weird sound or poor fps. I think psx4droid worked on the xoom, but it's not playing nice on here.
Would also like to know this. Psx4droid just doesn't run any roms, and Fpse works, but lots of frame rate and sound issues running FFVII ( which according to the internets, is one of the best running roms out there). I've seen it running really well on a phone, don't see why it should run badly on a more powerful device.
using FPse with Crash bandicoot and it works fine for me !
After I updated to Touchwiz UX FPSE started working alot better for me. Before I wasn't getting any sounds in FF9 and the sounds during regular gameplay were very choppy. Now I am getting 52-60 fps and sound emulation is great.
+1 for FPSe Went through many emulators and the is by far the best.
Using an older version of psx4drioid (pre v2) works the best on tegra devices, havent tried it yet on my GT but on my old g-tablet it was the best emulator. Version 1.2 or 1.5 if I recall correctly.

use FPSe - download scph1001.bin from the net - go to FPSe settinges - than system - bios loading and choose scph1001.bin - restart FPSe - enjoy with the almost 100% working games with sound and everything
I've found most RPG games have messed up sound with FPSe, anyway to fix this issue? Final Fantasy 7,8,9
whenever i get ff9 fpse wont load it, where are you guys getting your working roms from?
Fpse is the freaking best man, it even works flawlessly on my nexus s + 1 fpse
I wish I could get FPse working for me, I have the correct Bios, but when I load any game it shows a black screen for 30 seconds and then force closes. I know the roms are working because they work with PSX4droid (however PSX4droid randomly crashes and sound clips). Do you think its because I'm using the Starburst ROM? Or possibly I have a bad bios file?
FPSe loads FF9 fine if I have the BIOS file loaded, except: 1) Graphics look like crap. There are settings that VASTLY improve graphics quality but these make it laggy/choppy 2) No sound in many areas. Basically, there is no background music
Well FPSe is working great in terms of frame rate and all that ... But yeah getting a weird sound issue where the music in FFVII seems to be chopped off a little. Notes don't' seem like they are completing or something. Kind of weird.

(GUIDE) N64, PSX, and others on Photon
I realize this is nothing new, but with many of the emulators being pulled from the market, and the somewhat confusing process of getting everything in place, I thought I would post a little guide here on how to get some old school console gaming on our Photons, for people who may not have realized it was possible. I also would ask that no one flame on about YongZh. Whatever your opinion is of him, his N64 emulator is bar none the best on Android. Now, with that out of the way, the MoPho is a seriously capable gaming machine for those of you who grew up in the 80's and 90's. Because of the support for bluetooth that Motorola has in their phones, you can interface with the phone with several devices, some of which you may already have. With it's fast processing power, and a solid GPU, it runs emulators smoothly, and with HDMI, you can connect right to your TV. I have tried similar set-ups with the Evo, and the Evo3D, and neither one compared to what I am enjoying with my MoPho. To start, you will want download some of the best emulators. You need to create a SlideMe account to buy N64oid. You can do that here: http://slideme.org/application/n64oid SlideMe is safe to give your credit card information. Plus once you have an account, you can download several other emulators for free, like SNES, Gamboy Advanced, etc. For PSX, it's available in the Android market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.emulator.fpse&hl=en The best SNES app is no longer available in the market. It was Snes9xEX from Robert Broglia. You can still find it here: http://www.explusalpha.com/home/snes9x-ex/downloads There is an initial investment here of about $10 for the newer consoles (N64 and PSX), but it's worth it if you have the cash. These developers continue to work hard on these emulators, and $5 is a steal for the experience you get. Second, you will want to download the BluezIME that supports a Wii Controller. Found here: http://code.google.com/p/android-bluez-ime/downloads/list There are other Wii Mote apps, but this is the only one that works natively with the N64 emulator. This app will allow you to pair a number of controllers with your device, and it supports true analog movement with the Wii controller analog stick. For those that don't know, analog allows you to control the movement of your player based on how far you bend the stick. Digital is 100% or 0% with a trigger somewhere about half way. Analog lets you push the stick a little, and move a little, push the stick alot, and move alot faster. I hope that makes sense. N64 is really the only console from this era that used it actively. PSX had a few games that did take advantage of it. Once you have N64oid installed, as well as BluezIME, you can go into N64oid, and connect a Wii controller directly there. Just go into menu>settings>input settings>bluetooth gamepads>controller 1. Once you are in there, you can hit connect, and it will ask to turn on bluetooth if you haven't already done so. Once it is on, it will say connecting. At this point, hit 1 and 2 on the Wii controller to pair it. The buttons automatically map, but you can change them if you want to. The analog stick should not be mapped in this section. It's already mapped correctly. If you are using the nunchuck, it's mapped to that analog stick. If you are using the classic controller, it's mapped to the left stick. If you have multiple remotes, you can pair them all up using the other controller slots. N64 had a lot of great 4 player first person shooters. The wonderful advantage to having the MoPho is out of the box mirroring on to your HDTV. Because mirroring uses far less resources than webtop, make sure you just do mirroring, not webtop. It will ensure your emulator runs more smoothly. Pairing with FPSE is a little different. It doesn't support BluezIME right in the app. So you have to pair with Bluez before going into FPSE. The upside to the N64oid emulator is you don't have to change your input method. So if you pause your game to answer a text, you type with your regular keyboard. In FPSE, Bluez is now your input method and you are mapping to actual keystrokes. Which means you will have to change your system input method if you need to type something, and change back when you re-start your game. There is another option for a controller, which is the Sixaxis controller app. I don't have that controller, and so I haven't bought or tested that app. If anyone has, feel free to post your feedback here. The other thing these emulators have is on screen controls, or hardware contols that use the sensor to move or physical buttons to shoot, jump, etc. Again, the MoPho has an advantage here over other phones. The camera button, and the volume up button can be mapped as triggers, and they are placed nicely. Also, because the MoPho has a gyroscope instead of an accelerometer, using the sensor as an analog stick is much more accurate than it was on my OG Evo. You can also map the camera and back buttons if you so choose. Once you have installed your emulators, you need to get games to play. I have to tread lightly here, because downloading game roms from someone else is illegal. If you already own the game, and make a back up of it, it's legal to play your own copy of your own game with these emulators. You can use Google to find roms to see an example of what your backup will look like. PSX roms are the most difficult to get a solid working copy. This is because they are very large to begin with, and need to be "un-cem'ed" usually. I can tell you there is a good youtube video if you search on how to get PSX roms for your android device. If me saying that violates something, let me know and I will take it out. For FPSE, you will need to install the PSX bios. Again, this is easily downloaded by doing a Google search. If you can't find it, PM me, and I will send it to you. FPSE is a somewhat complex emulator with a lot of options. For more support related specifically to that system, go to their support forums at:http://www.fpsece.net/forum2/index.php?sid=0fe4c20b809864ad49553f31ba1e9d1a For N64oid, you can view the discussion here: http://n64oid.forumotion.com If you have made it this far, here is a list of some games that are fun to play if you re-map the controls. Most of these are games that used the gun, because it can be emulated with a screen tap. NES Duck Hunt - Use input method as zapper. Map volume up as select, and volume down as start to navigate initial menus. SNES Yoshi Safari - This was a game that used the superscope. So you have to set the superscope as your main controller. If you map the volume up as the up button, and the volume down as the down button, and use sensor as left and right, then you are actually playing it in 2 player mode. The second player controls Yoshi, while the first is Mario shooting. But if you hold your phone in portrait, you can tilt left to right to dodge enemies, and press up to jump on the platforms, and down to slow down and evade obstacles. These instructions should work with SNESoid or Snes9x EX. Mario Paint - This only works with Snes9x EX. The developer allows you to emulate the mouse. Mario Kart - Use sensor as left and right, and map Volume up as A, Camera as R. Leave the on screen controls for acceleration. You accelerate by pressing B on screen, steer with the phone, but hop to do power slides with Camera, and fire your weapons with volume up. PSX Time Crisis - Change the controller to Guncon, and map L3 to volume up, and R3 to volume down. L3 will come out of cover to shoot, then you can tap on the enemies, and R3 will pause the game. N64 Star Fox - Use the sensor as your analog stick, map volume up to Z, and camera to R. Map Volume down to C-left (use for boost). Leave the on-screen controls except for the analog stick and L and R. Flying the ship is done mostly from the phone controls, and firing is on-screen controls. The compatibility lists in the forums for N64oid and FPSE aren't really specific to our phones. I have found excellent compatibility with most games on this phone. FPSE runs almost everything 100%. For N64 here are all the ones I have currently running with no issues that I can see, but I am sure that more are compatible, and the developer is improving this app regularly. Super Mario 64 Mario Kart 64 Star Fox 64 Goldeneye Perfect Dark Banjo Kazooie Zelda OOT Zelda Majoras Mask I hope that helps some of you enjoy your Photon that much more. If I missed anything or you want to add anything, just let me know.

Yongzh is the freaking man. Google pulled his emulators I believe because of violations etc. Emulators don't last that long in the market. Ex, apple got a mame emulator and it was pulled in 2 days. I don't need to explain why they were pulled its pretty obvious lol. Also if you go to Google and search for "slideme market" yongzh gives his emulators free with updates. All of the emus are the latest versions. I'm not 100% on the story with yongzh and Google but the dude puts out qualify work. Not to mention the photon is the best devices I've ever emulated older systems/games on. Great write up. Update: It appears slideme marketplace is down at the moment but I'm guessing it will be back soon? Here's a dropbox link to slide me i hope it's back up soon... http://db.tt/KtgsxLaK

Here's a dropbox link to slide me i hope it's back up soon... http://db.tt/KtgsxLaK Click to expand... Click to collapse I totally agree. My Evo was my first Android phone, and when I saw that there were SNES emulators, I was hooked. Yongzh replies to emails too, which is great. The Robert Broglia is also a really cool developer. If you want to venture into mame, and other systems like that, his emus are pretty legit.

Click to collapse One of my biggest complaints about FPSE would be that the sound never seems to work correctly. I would suggest unchecking the framelimiter, and see if that makes it work. Some games ran too fast with that unchecked.
I was looking into this today. This is a great start for a guide. This is what I found. Looks like this article is about 8 months old but, should help with a few things to look for. http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Android/Top+10+Android+charts/feature.asp?c=29415

Nice write-up. I'm running Snes9x and Gameboid on my Electrify (Photon minus 4G) and they run great, but with on-screen controls, fast-action games like Mario are just unplayable. I beat both real Castlevania games for the GBA (I don't count Circle of the Moon, they made that for people who thought the other two and SOTN were too easy) on my Electrify, and Zelda 3 is kinda playable (SNES or the Capcom reissue on GBA). A Sixaxis controller is a little too expensive. I didn't think about the Wii classic controller. Eek. Looks like the Wii option costs more than I thought. First you have to buy a Wiimote, and the black one with MotionPlus is $2.69 cheaper than the white and blue ones, and $4.69 cheaper than the pink one (girl gamers always get shaft...eh, scr... eh, cheated), but if you want to go black on black, Newegg needs $2 more to ship the black classic controller than the white one (both $19.99 with $4.99 and $2.99 shipping, respectively, and $35.30 and free shipping for the black Wiimote). So we're looking at $60 for the Nintendo option. Meanwhile, Newegg wants $39.99 for the PS3 controllers in blue or black. If you want white or red, the price goes up to $44.99. But if you want pink (again, girls get... eh, you get the idea), the price jumps up to $54.99. All with free shipping. (Does the pink... eh, sorry, "Candy pink"... one support breast cancer research? No? Sony's just being misogynistic?) Hmm... looks like Sony wins this one, by about $20. (Note that none of those are referral links, I'm not getting kickbacks or anything.)
Since I originally wrote this I bought a PS3 controller, and the sixaxis app is nothing short of amazing! The touch profiles make it so you can use N64oid with full analog control. But, what's more, is you can play games like Shadowgun and map the controls to key presses, or Modern Combat 3 with mapping on screen touch profiles. If anyone is interested in these mappings or profiles, I can upload them here.
Yes please upload the n64oid profile
PPSSPP for Android
What an emulator! GOD OF WAR Ghost of Sparta is super awesome! Soul Caliber is freaking amazing! I highly recommend this app. I do add that you need to play with the SETTINGS in this app to have the games work well, otherwise it LAGS like hell and the audio is terrible. Once you adjust the settings, it works flawlessly! I have an iPEGA external bluetooth controller that works well with this emulator! I highly recommend it! The games look awesome on the LG G3! By the way, I used this video to adjust the settings on the app: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxNfpIhVqX4&index=2&list=FLH2R531RY0ughYavILtMy7w The latest version of PPSSPP is v1.0, and the video is for v0.9.6, but I used the settings anyway and it works very well. :good:
Warning I will warn you that the games are huge, (1.2GB), however they can be saved on the external memory card. I have a 128GB card.
Spoke too soon Well, some games need different settings all their own to work right, HOWEVER, PPSSPP app allows you to save settings for each individual game. So it takes a little time to tweak the games to work properly, but when you knock that out, the games are really awesome and look great on this phone!
hi Now that we on lollipop it doesnt work...wondering have yall found a fix for it...oops got this mix up with sixaxis controller...ppsspp work but sixaxis dont
I'm still on KitKat. Can't help you.
Favorite games?
I've had this phone since January and while I run single screen most days, I love to bust out the dual screen for some gaming. this thing is still a gaming machine. mostly used it for running emulators, but I'm interested in Android native games as well that can make use of the Game Pad. my favorites so far have been: Dolphin Emulator + LG Game Pad: finally got to revisit a childhood favorite, Ty the Tasmanian Tiger using Dolphin to run the GameCube version and a custom LG Game Pad setup. the snapdragon 855 runs the game almost perfectly with the occasional hiccup. DraStic emulator + LGG8X Wide Mode App: with some customizing of the DraStic buttons layout, this phone makes for such a cool DS emulator. Pokemon Soul Silver, obviously. what are your favorites?
