Unable to install APK after 10.3.7.0 Update. - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hey XDA!
I have this unique problem where my phone refuses to install anything outside the Play Store. Manually downloaded APK will not install, updates from System App Updater also will not install. Anything from MI Store will also not install.
Apps from the Play Store install just fine.
I've checked every single setting that could cause this. Only thing I haven't tried is a Factory Reset.
Please advise.

I would think that you have set another app to install apks, like firefox, and that app is failing or has failed following the update. See what apps can install apks and see whether the app has the right permissions in settings. If necc remove the app and reinstall. OR - there is a setting under Security which has to be enabled for unkown sources. Perhaps the 10.3..7 update has reverted the status of this setting?

All settings are in their default state.
I reset app preferences, unknown sources is also enabled. This problem is preventing even Xiaomi from installing its own apps. I cleared data of package installer. As I said above, I tried EVERYTHING.
Any thing from the Play Store installs and updates just fine. Anything else gets stuck at the "Installing" screen and then twenty minutes later says... "Xyz App failed to install."
I have plenty of space.
Phone is pure stock.

For APKs you need an all installer app. Don't know why other apps do not install. I am on 10.3.7.0 Global Stable Rom stock locked bootloader and do not have any problems at all. Phone runs perfectly.

Mentioning WAREZ on XDA means you're liable to get an infraction/ban. Please don't do that and edit your post to remove it.

Warez - Illegally obtained or compromised software.
It is not a warez, its not a website with it. Its a tool, so how can It be banable, I don't I encourage anyone to use it so ban would be out of context. Also I am pretty sure no one would know What is L*** P******

can you try APKPURE ?

First of all, I appreciate all of your replies. But I am slightly annoyed that most of you either did not read what I typed or are suggesting I circumvent Android's built in protection just to get around a bug.
That is NOT a solution. Especially considering I'm the ONLY one facing this issue and that it isn't a wide spread one.
Regardless, as I've mentioned before, I'VE TRIED EVERY SINGLE LOGICAL THING POSSIBLE within my knowledge...
I eventually Factory Reset my phone.
And now everything is working as it should.
I have a feeling this problem arose because of either a bug with Xiaomi "Security" app or with the Xiaomi "Themes" app. But I'm not an expert. I've sent logs to Xioami through Feedback App.
I hope none of you face this issue.
Again to summarize : Factory Reset Solved My Problem.

this is a communty forum! non of us liable to provide any solution to anyone but to share our experiences like at the end you did!
everyone of use face problems which for us is unique and some times the solution is also either unique or at the end its either reflashing or factory reseting the device which we all know will fix any problem but will it reach to the cause? thats another story!
so where on xda we all just share our experience this is not a helpline

Hi, I face this problem too for my father's phone red mi 2. As I can tell you, after factory reset, I face this problem after a while again. I don't know what is it.

Check the security app. Tick off the scan before installing. I'm on the latest 11.0.8 stable and everything works fine on my end. But from what I can see that may be the cause of your problems

You know you are being disrespectful. First of all this is a tech page/group/whatever. Have you seen most of the posts here? Most are about rooting, bypassing, etc. And you yourself have said that you have tried everything except doing a factory reset right? Well people are providing you solutions before doing that. If you have nothing good to say then just don't say it. Didn't your mom or guardian or whoever teach you manners?
If you didn't want to do anything like rooting or whatever, then right it down. Don't expect people to be psychics to know what you want. ??

Now, which part here did you say that we didn't read what you said? And which statement said that we disregarded "Android's builtin protection"? Are you alright? You do know that the security app is not a "builtin" android protection software right? That's Xiaomi. The only builtin security from Android are security patches and play protect, or didn't you know that? You said you tried everything, but aside from downloadinh apks, did you say from where you installed it? Did you install it using Chrome after downloading them? Did you ever try opening the apks from a file manager? Did you try turning off play protect? Or turning off the security scan toggle wherein it says "scan before installing"?
You said this is only your issue, yet you are annoyed at people giving you advice and options when you yourself never even mentioned whether you are rooted or if you didn't want to "turn off security".
Glad you solved your issue, but next time if you want specific advice note it down and don't be a jerk to people who only want to help.

I had this issue and solved it by using the original file manager instead of ES file manager.

YES! Annoying as hell!
I had this same problem after installing an app that, I think, was written for the Gear 2, and quickly (sloppy) patched to work with the S..
I did most everything I could to get the error to stop, but once the issue starts...that's it...the remedy is within the currently inaccessible system files.
In the end, I had to do a full reset AND setup. And, FYI, I was unable to use the restore function from any of the previous backups (this only replicated the error).

I had the exact same problem and had to reset without restore. Problem is probably related to one of my recent installs, most likely one of the following (sorry I am not able to narrow it down further):

Anybody else notice same problem since installing one of the above?

It seems that there is a number of applications that can trigger it. I do not know enough to spot what they have in common but I found another culprit: Appy Geek for Gear. Keep it installed you face the problem in one of its notifications. Uninstall it, the problem is gone.
It also seems that until you find which app gives you the problem, there is a way to avoid it: Turn Notifications off from the Android Gear Management app.
I don't have any of those apps and I had the device do that to me as well. I rebooted the Gear and the issue continued, but once I cleared all 50 of my notifications, I haven't had that problem.

Was able to clear notifications and that seemed to resolve it. The timing was every 2-3 days for me and then the lock up would start. I have minimized notifications to only the most critical ones (which makes sense). So far so good.

I hada same trouble with news republic... Very annoying!
Actually, as somebody else said it is because of the notifications. The apps don't really do anything to the watch unless they're running and they crash your phone. I would've assumed that notifications would clear from the watch once they were cleared from the phone but they just accumulate over time. The problem seems to be that each new notification adds another page to the homescreen to the left. Just clear your notifications every once in a while and it will stop freezing up, it did with me.

Looking for Motorola Update Service components to disable to prevent OTA or OTA msg

Currently:
Android version 6.0.1
Model: XT1650-02
Build Number MCLS24.246-36-3
I'm one of many people experiencing issues with the Moto Z (Force) move to Nougat. In doing so, I have choppy audio, tinny sound, popping and crackling as well. When contacting Verizon, they claim that nobody else is complaining about this to a point where their company is notifying its CS reps with a resolution. When contacting Lenovo/Motorola, they claim that they've received a ton of complaints since the Nougat release, and suggested that I bring the phone back for a swap since I had only just purchased it. I did just that, and followed their additional instruction for not updating to Nougat. The only problem is that the freakin thing downloads automatically while on wifi within a day and no way to prevent it that I know of. Now I have this aggressive attempt of the OTA management to get me to start the process. I don't want to, but neither do I want to manage having to ignore this update every day, nor do I want to accidentally initiate the process. I'm looking for a bit of help.
I thought that if I disabled the Motorola OTA service that it wouldn't push. But it did push even though I stopped the service under developer options. And even now that it pushed, I hoped not to get the message, but there it is. And since I don't want to root yet, I can't clear the space in cache where the update is to prevent it from updating accidentally. I'm looking for the names of any other Moto services that might be related to the OTA that I can disable to prevent this from happening. I don't mind factory defaulting my phone and starting over to clear their cache, but once the update actually executes, I'm hosed with crappy audio again. My wife has the same phone and we have one day to get her a new one for free within our return period. We like the phone, do not want to get a different brand, and hope that we can find a solution to this. Again, I want to do this without rooting.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.

Hi,
I myself greenified the app called "Motorola-Updateservices", package name is com.motorola.ccc.ota, apk name is 3c_ota.apk
Since then I never had another notification that nougat is available and I didn't search for updates either of course.

About to download and try it out. If it works, I'll be back in a couple days to report. If it doesn't, I'll be back sooner. Thank you for the suggestion.
Also, if you can provide any specific configurations to manage the OTA, I'm at your disposal.
SuD
PS I won't be searching for updates either, but I will be bugging Lenovo/Motorola to find out when the bug is fixed.
I'm rooted, have xposed and the donation version of the app.
As the OTA app is a system app you can't greenify it without having xposed installed and the donation package of Greenify.
Try to just disable the app with the normal app manager.

It worked on 6.01 but no longer on 7.0. If you debloat on 6.01 and take the OTA to 7.0 everything you've debloated stays that way unless you do a factory reset.
for some reason google took away the ability to use the adb commands in 7.0
Almost like they want us to be stuck with bloat lol.

I just tried it and I get some permission error. So it seems after the Dec patch it no longer works on '6.
I have Moto Z Play -1.
any suggestions for someone who might have accidentally downloaded the system update, but hasn't installed it yet? It makes me nervous, having that "new system software is downloaded and ready to install" message b/c I know one day I'll probably accidentally click on it and there won't be a way to go back.
I am a Z play owner.
By installing Z (not play) apps I believe I have disabled the OTA. But I have no nagging update to test it's functionality on.
To my point, if this does work then the reverse should work also.
I will up my apps if anyone want to try it.

Same as me on my z play.
The last patch did this.

'Ok Google' voice phone unlocking doesn't work.

Hi,
As you may have known, ok Google issue has been solved in recent miui 10 stable update. Now it offers to unlock the device using voice match even when the display is turned off.
Now even I say ok Google when the screen is turned off, it does wake the device but it's still locked and it shows me pattern unlock.
How to unlock the device so that I can pass an actual command to Google assistant?
Thanks
My phone just updated to MIUI Global 10.0 (10.0.4.0 OEJMIFH) and it was fixed.
Now I can say 'Ok Goolge' and it opens assistant.
Phone unlocking by voice command is disabled by miui and afaik even Google is removing this feature from assistant, security reasons probably

Yes, I did that. It does wake up the device but doesn't unlock it.
Edit: Sorry. I wasn't facing the same issue. I was facing the issue where the Google Assistant wasn't working properly, and it would show me the error "unable to open microphone".
I found the solution on the MIUI forums. Here's what I did...
You have to go to the Google app in "Installed Apps" and clear the cache and the data and reboot, and it'll start working fine.
It was a little tricky to find the Google app as it wouldn't show in the Installed Apps. You have to click on the 3 dots on the upper right side corner and select "Show all apps" and then it'll show up. After that, you just clear the cache and the data and reboot phone, and it'll start working properly
Nevertheless, I tried your solution and it didn't work either way.
Ok Google straight up doesn't work for me

Don't get your hopes high about this feature's implementation on OEMs. Google were already silently phasing-out this feature and the OEMs will soon to follow.

What exactly did you do?

There are lots of different places where I can delete Google data. Could you walk me through it?

Tried this as per instructions but still no avail. Are you using stable MIUI version?

It sort of works for me (Stable 10.0.6.0). However, following those instructions it only wakes the phone, but doesn't unlock. But - after getting to that point, I went into the Google assistant, settings, voice, voice match and it let me select the slider - gave me a warning about being less secure, and then it woke up AND unlocked via voice.
Unfortunately, it then failed to do it the next time I tried it and asked for my pattern/face. Not sure if it requires log in sometimes and not others, or if the first time was just luck!
At one point it would wake up and let me ask a question, but only read or show me the answer when I unlocked, but now it won't even do that, so basically it's completely inconsistent! hurrah!
Clearly some sort of security issue - whether it's Xiaomi or Google's fault is up for debate, but if Google are removing it from their flagship then I wouldn't be surprised if it never works properly on anything else.
If they would only get Trusted Places working properly (Google that is) or even allow trusted Wifi (I know the security implications but I'm prepared to accept them!) then it would probably not be necessary.
I could keep it unlocked with my watch, but then I find that (despite pocket mode) my phone regularly does random things while in my pocket!
I had similar issues with my Mate 10 Pro, that I've just changed from, so it's not solely Xiaomi's fault, but is it really too much to ask to expect Android features that are offered to actually work out of the box?!

You're right. But if it had worked then it would have been a great party trick. I never had a phone which could wake up with an audio command.

The irony is that I've just switched from a Huawei Mate 10 Pro (Various reasons, but flaky bluetooth top of the list) and that did do it after the last update. That's because they have their own voice recognition baked in to the Kirin chipset though I think, so it's not using just Google's voice match - and even that took a lot of fiddling to get working. No idea how secure it was, but it was handy for finding the phone by asking it where it was! I refuse to talk to my phone in public anyway, so it's something I can live without I think

Advice about malware

Hi Folks.
I've done something a bit silly and hoping some Android expert on here may be able to help me.
I stupidly installed an app from an external source using a link that was given me for a specific app.
I am now freaking out about malware/spyware and all the rest of it.
At this point, I must point out that there is nothing to immediately suggest the app is bad. I only installed it a few hours ago on my phone but there hasn't been anything suspicious like extra battery use, heat, unknown apps in the list of battery usage or pop ups or anything like that. It could be that it's absolutely fine (and probably is.)
What I'm more concerned about is that there may be some nefarious background process running that means I suddenly wake up and find my bank account has been drained, or I'm being blackmailed by some Russian hacker that has hold of my emails and photos etc.
TWO IMPORTANT DISCLAIMERS (before anybody states the below:
- Yes, I know it was a stupid thing to do and I don't know what came over me. But it is done now.
- I know that a full factory reset is the best way to clear all but I'm desperate to avoid that. It took me two days to setup my new S21 Ultra and hate the thought of going through all of that again!
I know that Google Play Protect helps with apps from the GP Store, but I assume this is not relevant here because it came from an external source. Is there any kind of facility where I can upload the app and it scans it? Or am I screwed?
I also know you can download Norton etc but I read that they may not be effective on things like this. FYI, I am running the January 1st Android security patch (the most recent available.)
Thanks in advance.
Scan the apk file with online Virustotal.
Meh... show us the apk in question.
I have a few side loaded apps, so what?
Playstore is no sure bet either... load what you need, disregard the rest and toss the bad ones.
A badly written app can cause headaches even after it's uninstalled. Not as common with Android as in Windows but it happens.
On a clean load I'm careful what I install ie known good apps.

Thanks. I've attached the apps. Thanks for your help and advice. I've scanned them on VirusTotal and they appear to be clean..
If you are worried about this, then you need to flash the phone. Then install the app to protect your phone from the official source.

Question Assistant Crashing Every Time

Hello everybody!
Ever since I bought this phone (Pixel 6) the assistant has never worked. Considering this is a Google phone, one would assume it would work no issue but joke is firmly on me!
I have been researching and have seen mixed messages from many websites where some users have the issue, others no issue! I have seen some people say to reinstall the Google App (tried this, didn't work) and other people said to completely restore to factory which I don't want to considering the hassle of getting everything back in order.
Does anybody have anything else I might be able to try?
Thanks in advance

I have seen this happen with a different launcher installed. It happen with me using Nova launcher back in the beginning of using the P6. Nova fixed the issue a week after people complained.

Nope. If it counts, I am using the Brave Browser?

No the Browser should not block it.
But since you brought up the Brave Brower.
Did you disable Chrome?
I think the assist only works with Chrome. I am not a100% sure.
I am going to step aside and let someone else help. I really am just guessing at this topic.

I didn't disable it, I just never used it.
I did open it just now and tried to use the assistant with it and it didn't crash immediately. You might be on to something.
Maybe I am missing something though, if it was a browser based issue, why would that impact my ability to open say Spotify or "check the weather".
Maybe it's some other Google system/service I am after breaking?

I use Duck Duck Go browser.
I have tried the Brave browser a few months back for a short time.
Side note; I use Brave browser on my pc, because edge gives me trouble with networking for my smarthome devices and nas.
I am also having this issue after rooting and modding a few things. Reverted the changes but I am still having the issue. Updating Google App and downloading Google Assistant doesn't seem to do the trick either. Anyone with some insight into the issue know what's going on?
quick update - I installed Alexa to see if that would work, and it too doesn't appear to like me
Starting to think its a service based issue instead of a particular app.
Anybody who has guidance please chime in
Are you completely stock, no custom rom, kernel, Magisk mods?
Alexa will increase your four letter vocabulary to a new level.
Do you have the assistant set to more than 1 language? For me having the assistant set to English and dutch causes it to constantly.
I figured out for me it was dozing google play services
so, update on this. Firstly, I only have it using the one language.
Secondly, I got an update yesterday for the google app from the playstore and it appears to have fixed whatever the problem was!
