I have a Verizon Samsung Galaxy S9+, and I'm stuck on the January 2019 update. They just released an October update. I've tried the Verizon Upgrade Assistant, but I get the following message: "Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware," and it stops. I've tried Samsung Smart Switch, but it says my software is up-to-date (last three digits are SA7). I was on chat with Verizon for several hours yesterday, and they couldn't figure it out. They said to contact Samsung, which told me that I needed to contact Verizon. Very frustrating, especially after reading about some new malware that affects my phone. Plus, I'm hoping an update will help alleviate my battery drain issue. I have done a complete factory reset and even cleared the cache again, but no luck. I'd greatly appreciate answers from you guys!

have you ever flashed firmware in Odin before? or i guess i should ask if youve ever heard of Odin and what it can do.
also go to your phones settings, about phone, software information and post the screenshot of what that page shows so we can see your entire baseband

Hi there, i updated my S2 to 4.03 in April with ther official Tmobile UK update via Kies.
I have read on a few sites recently about 4.04 being out and that it makes further improvements. Well yesterday i connected my phone to Kies and was informed there was an update due so i went throught he whole update process and when complete it shows my phone as still being on 4.03.
At the end of the update my phone had all my apps, contacts, pics, everything still on phone. I did not have to reinstall anything. Kies now shows that i have latest firmware but i can see no difference.
Kies reports firmware as PDA:LPD / Phone:LPB / CSC:LPD (TMU)
Anyone had anything similar and bottom line is did i get an update or not.
Thanks for any help.
LPD is quite an "old"-ish ROM, if we can say so (check here for details: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487).
The Build Date is 8th May 2012.
I have found LPG to be the most stable version of 4.0.3 (Build date: 24 May 2012).
Looks like we're gonna have to wait a while longer for 4.0.4 (I meant worldwide coverage for it cause as far as I have found out this latest LPO for NEE is quite alright).
Cheers,
Mihai

There was an update for Kies (just the program you run on your computer) lately, are you sure it wasn't just that?
SNAP!!
Hi guys,
I just went throught the same update issue. I had already upgraded to 4.0.3 earlier this year - but I have been experiencing problems with the phone simply turning itself off at random times and needing to have it's battery removed and reinserted to get it going again.
I e-mail Samsung support and got advised to do a firmware upgrade via kies.
So I did - and lowe and behold it found an update and duely installed it - but I am still showing droid version as 4.0.3 and I can see no difference what at all.
I also didn't need to reinstall any apps etc - so exactly what is going on?
Have samsung realised that they made a mistake with the initial release of ICS and applied a patch?
I've got my fingers crossed that what ever it is, it will hopefully stop the phone turning itself off.
Meanwhile I have e-mailed samsung back to ask exactly what was in the update - if I get anything back I'll post it on here.
Samsungs latest firmware is on 4.0.3.
When upgrading with Kies, none of your apps and personal data is tempered with. Just the system is updated and the rest is left untouched.
So, yes, your're upgraded to the latest firmware.

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 (I9300), and recently encrypted the device to enable to me to use my employer's exchange email service (NHS.net). The encryption process went without issue and my phone has been working normally since (about 2 weeks). However I have now received a message for a 170Kb OTA firmware update for the phone. When I click "Update now" is says the following:
Unable to update new software. Device is encrypted. Decrypt?
Click to collapse
If I click OK it takes me to the "Security and lock screen" sub-menu in settings. In here the "Encrypt device" button is greyed out (as expected) and there seems to be nothing more to do. The update does not proceed. If I click cancel the device re-prompts me later anyway.
The problem is that my device keeps on prompting me to update with my only two options either to proceed as above (and get nowhere) OR postpone the update for up to 3 hours and get prompted again.
So now I am trapped in a situation where my device is nagging me to update but gives me no way to do so. As far as I am aware, encryption of an android device is irreversible without a factory reset so I am confused as to why the firmware update even asks for it?
Am I missing something here or is this a crappily designed security update from Samsung? I really don't want to have to factory reset my device then re-download all my software AND re-encrypt my device to use my email for a 170kb update; especially if this will happen again!
Any advice would be much appreciated,
Thanks

Hi,
Tried Samsung Kies repeatedly; it downloads the update and then during the "Firmware upgrade in progress" times out after an hour.
Looks like I am the only person experiencing this problem; may have to factory reset the device after all.

You are not the only one, I am experiencing the exact same problem with encrypted device and not being able to install updates.
So far I have not been able to find a solution.
Manually apply OTA updates is in testing and a few have got it to work: I cant post a link but I did a search on these forums and found a tread about it.
Hope we can find the answer
Encrypted GALAXY S3 update
I am experiencing the exact same problem with encrypted device and not being able to install updates as my device is encrypted due to the Exchange! Hope someone already solved this issue? TIA

Same problem here. I would appreciate any idea. OTA updates usually work fine with my Asus Transformer, so this should be a Samsung related problem.

Update: For my phone, it actually seems possible to decrypt the device via the Security Menu. Samsungs support told me that this has to be done before the update can be installed....
I was also getting this a few weeks ago but when I connected to my pc and ran the update through Kies it updated without having to decrypt first
I've now removed my exchange connection to nhs.net and decrypted so unable to test

We too are experiencing this problem despite Samsungs "SAFE" (Samsung Approved For Enterprise) designation on the S III.
What version of KIES did you use? I've tried v2.2 and v2.3

I realize this thread is a little old but i'll reply anyway. I've seen on other forums that your enterprise email is causing the issue. You have to remove your enterprise email/exchange acct in order to decrypt the device. Once removed, the option to decrypt should be available. You may then accept the OTA. Your phone is only doing what it's told to do by the exchange server. It might be a ***** to remove the account but i think it would still be easier than a factory reset.

Thanks for the post haddy17. We have investigated that option but when you're working with potentially thousands of staff/employees, it's a tad cumbersome to have them remove, upgrade, reconfigure. If it were just me, it would be fine. We're currently trying to get a response from Samsung and while we have made some progress, it's not clear where the end may be...
You are probably using Exchange servers? One way could be to change ActiveSync policy to not require encryption on device. This is selectable feature. Or maybe create two policies and move clients between them from request of user.
There are still shortcomings what comes to corporate security and Android mobiles (well there are issues on other platforms too)
Hello, my GFM updated in early April to the latest version (1.117.0306), but will not connect to the GF now. I had to remove everything and reload the 1.98 version on my phone which works fine. I have the latest software on the Gear Fit, R350XXU0BNG2.
It keeps trying to update automatically and I have to keep deleting the GF Installer under Appliacations to stop it.
Anyone have any ideas on how to best proceed? I would like to have the latest version (1.117.0306), but I've tried several times and reset the GF, but nothing works. BT fails to connect. It sees the unit, but will not connect.
Thanks,
Sammy
I found version 116 that works pretty well. You can go into the galaxy app site and set the app not to auto update but you get lots of nag message asking to upgrade.
Honestly at this point, the nag messages are close to making me stop using the watch. When the upgrade notification pops up, it steals focus. So while it's annoying because it's an extra step to use the phone when unlocking, it also presents other issues. I use my phone for work. I have a Bluetooth headset. I usually leave my phone on my desk. If I'm away from my phone and a call comes in, I can usually just answer it from the headset. However, if the upgrade message is currently in the home screen, because it steals focus, the Bluetooth cannot answer the call. I've already missed 1 call because of it. I hope Samsung gets off their asses and fixes this. I mean, what does the regular consumer do who isn't on this site and doesn't know how to roll back to a previous version.
Yeah it's getting really annoying.
Do you guys have the latest firmware installed on the gear fit?

The nags are killing me on this issue. So much so, that I am seriously contemplating jumping to the Garmin VivoActive. I know it has its own issues, but at least it won't keep me from using the device.
I backed my firmware on my GF back to a previous version via Odin and started over. Everything loaded, updated and connected fine. Even my GF updated it's firmware during the process. Here is how it ended up:
GF firmware: R350XXU0BNE5
GFM: 1.117.030622
Hope this helps.

HOLY ******************! This actually WORKED! I tried everything! I have a SCH-I545 (Verizon Galaxy S4) and wasted so much time talking to Samsung support about my issue. They had me do a whole bunch of nonsense including factory resetting my Gear Fit and phone, with no success. I installed different firmwares from all over with no success. I even rooted my phone and installed non-Samsung managers (and you guessed it!) with no success. Then I read this and figured I'd give it a shot.
Downloaded this firmware: r350xxu0bnd8.rar (full, not just update)
Using Odin I flashed the BL, AP, and CSC. Then installed a fresh copy of Gear Manager v.1.117.030622 and tried to connect. Told me to upgrade the firmware on my Gear Fit, which I allowed. After the firmware was upgraded, the Gear Fit connected without a problem!!!! THANK YOU SAMMY!!! :good: :good: :good:
@echo top. Thanks for the heads up on what firmware you flashed. When I tried flashing ne5 I would just get boot loops. After flashing bnd8, it connected and updated to ne5 on it's own. FYI - I did not do a fresh install of 1.117. Just my existing 116 that I let update. All good.
Interesting. I will have to try that.
Connection problem confirmed solved
@DeathBySnuggles Yeah I was having the same problems with some firmwares, regardless of which version or where I downloaded them from. Might be an issue of flashing just an update on top of a different firmware version (without flashing the entire firmware set all at once). Not sure.
I had the bluetooth connection loop with BOA2/BNE5/BNG2 and Manager v.1.117.xxxx. Then at one point I almost bricked my device with a firmware from a questionable source. It was unresponsive, but using Kies I manually (it did not automatically detect it) searched for either the model or serial number of the Gear Fit and forced a fresh firmware install. That didn't solve my bluetooth connection errors though, still had the bluetooth connection loop.
I learned through my frustrating chats with Samsung that there are two different versions of Gear Fit. One is a U.S. version, and the other is the international version. Both apparently have the same model number, but are different based on the serial numbers. I really don't know the difference other than that's what they told me. I DO know that there are different firmwares for different countries. When I flashed my Gear Fit with firmware downloaded from the internet, they were usually based on versions from around the world (not U.S.). My guess is that by flashing a previous version of the firmware from any country, installing or updating Gear Fit Manager to the newest version, then upgrading the firmware through Gear Fit Manager installed the CORRECT firmware for the country you are in. If I'm wrong, someone speak up!
Kies didn't even install the correct firmware apparently, but this method worked for me. I spent hours everyday for MONTHS trying to correct this problem, and @sgroover60 posted the simple solution! It has been working without failure or problems ever since! Thanks again Sammy! :good:

That's where I found it too! I've been using XDA forever but never signed up to post on the forums until now, so I was not allowed to post a link to the dropbox (since I am a newbie under 10 posts).
@DeathBySnuggles could you put a link to the dropbox download? I still cant... I think it would help others find it quickly.
Has anyone seen the ridiculous responses from Samsung support in the Galaxy Apps Reviews for Gear Fit Manager? Generic responses that don't work. They always like to blame your problems on the devices being rooted as well! Downgrading the firmware on the Watch via ODIN and then running the Gear Fit Manager 1.17 worked for me as well. I just updated my Galaxy S4 to Stock Rooted Lollipop 5.01 and when the watch didn't work with it either I knew it must be a firmware/software issue isolated to the watch. Glad I checked this forum again and found this solution. No more upgrade nag messages! That in itself is ridiculous. Nobody should be forced into updating software unless it's for some sort of API or PCI compliance etc.
Well, Hello.
I'm stuck in the "Failed to connect to Manager" part, I already made a full flash of FW r350xxu0bnd8, install all kinds of Gear Fit Manager, and still can't even access menu information on the Fit.
I'm using S4 mini and s5 mini.

First delete any and all gear fit managers from your phone. Second, flash the xxxBND8 firmware to the gear fit using Odin on your computer (the entire firmware, including the AP, BL, and CSC at the same time). You can find the xxxBND8 firmware by googling r350xxu0bnd8 (we found it on someone's dropbox, I wish I could post the link for you). When that is complete, then install a fresh copy of gear fit manager 1.117.xxxx on your phone (I recommend just using the galaxy apps application). Once you have a fresh copy of gear fit manager 1.117.xxxx, then try to connect to the gear fit using the gear fit manager. The first time it tries to connect it will ask to upgrade the firmware on the gear fit through the manager (not through Odin). Click 'allow' to start the upgrade process. It might seem at some points like the update process has frozen, but it's just slow and will finish in approximately 5 minutes. Once the gear fit has been upgraded to the proper xxxxBNE5 firmware, I think the gear fit restarts. After it restarts or whatever, it should ask you to connect on the gear fit. Then try to connect to it using gear fit manager 1.117.xxx and it should connect without a problem. If you have more questions, read this entire thread first (not that long at this point, probably only 2 pages). If it's STILL not working, let me know I'll try to help you through this. I know how frustrating this can be...
Hello all!
Im new to the forum, so forgive me for any mistakes or mis-information.
I have a S8 Active (g892-a) with baseband version G892AUCS2BRF2, the june 6 2018 build. I had a 3rd party unlock so I can use it on T-mobile which has worked very well, but i believe this is the reason i dont get any updates.
I cannot seem to get any kind of updates either through the OTA manager in settings or smart switch. I've tried clearing the cache, restarting the phone, deleting smart switch and reinstalling to see if smart switch would update. but it only comes back with "your device is up to date". Is there anyway I can get my phone to update? Either through odin or through smart switch. I would love to update to 9 whenever it is available for the active, but would still like to get normal updates that are more recent. Possibly I can flash G892U firmware onto it, even if its G892A?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
I bought this unlocked phone on ebay last December 2022 for a good price and it has worked great with a few issues. This time I can't seem to update the software even though it's old Android 11, UI 3.1 from 2021 and new software Android 13, UI 5.1 is available (looked at my son's S21+ last night). I tried to update in phone settings and says it's up to date. I tried with Smartswitch and there is no screen coming up that says an update is available. So from my research apparently I may have to flash new firmware with Oden and Frija, but this could brick my only phone, so I'm reluctant. I'm posting here to see if I'm missing something, or will I have to do the entire Oden/Frija procedure? If I leave my phone at Android 11 will my phone start having issues in the future with old software? That's my concern.
Thanks
I have the same problem. Maybe the solution is backup all data to samsung account and fresh reinstall a rom in the same version as the phone is to not lose data. After that the update via OTA should be released. But these are all guesses. I will test it on mine
