Hi guys,
I wanted to change my wallpaper today and was browsing through the google wallpaper app (I normally use the Pixel live wallpapers without any issues or lag whatsoever). And I found a beautiful painted wallpaper in the "Art" category.
I selected it but soon realized that scrolling through my homescreens is very choppy with that particular wallpaper. I use Nova and have the scrolling wallpaper effect enabled. The choppiness goes away when I disable the scrolling wallpaper but that's not what I'm looking for. I thought it was Nova but when I tried it with the stock LG launcher or "lawnchair" the same stutter was present with that particular and other similar wallpapers.
Can you guys reproduce that effect or do you have any tipps on how to solve this issue? It's hard to imagine the SD835 could be having issues with such a thing and I use the screen in 1080p so not even full res... Or is it maybe because I recently upgraded to Pie (europe v30q)?
can you share that image. though, im using pie right now but it's T-Mobile v30, try to reproduce that bug for you
I made a screenshot of the wallpaper, I think the issue is the huge resolution of the picture when you select it directly from the Google wallpaper app. I found the same picture in lower resolution an it's definitely much better, but a bit blurry.
Pie is slow and laggy.
Pretty sure it will work great on Oreo.

Hm I don't agree. Apart from that issue everything is at least as snappy as oreo for me.

It is for me.
I always need to close some opened apps, otherwise everything becomes embarrassingly slow.
Never had to close anything on Oreo, it was always crazy fast and smooth.
Well let's hope they keep updating then...

Just wanted to report back, I decided to do a factory reset after all... (upgraded without wiping from Oreo) and now after setting everything up from scratch things are notably smoother and I don't have the choppy transitions anymore. So I guess there is no way around wiping when going from Oreo to Pie (what a sentence ).

so, from Oreo straight to pie without wiping data? no wonder so many people complained about pie performance since they're mostly clean flashed. Where here I did dirty flashed and have better experience than oreo. Strange
Confirmed! I don't have any stutter issue with wallpaper you've mention on Nova launcher.

Others never had an issue dirty flashing. I think it's just an issue with the TWRP zip. I had many issues doing clean flashes till it finally flashed correctly.

I updating my unmodified Tab 10.1 Wifi last night. The update is pretty amazing, if not a bit uglier. But suddenly I am having a ton of issues.
Worst of all is the lag. All the animations are suddenly very laggy and abrupt. Nothing is smooth anymore, when stock Honeycomb used to be very smooth. I talked to my friend, and he isn't having this issue after the official update.
Also, haptic feedback on the stock Android keyboard doesn't work anymore.
Then, Rock Player won't play MKVs with hardware decoding as it used to, and it's COMPLETELY messed up playing it with software decoding. A ton of distortion. Stock player won't play it either.
My dad took my tablet to play Angry Birds, and he says it kept crashing. I tried to play afterward, and it crashed. Just disappears without warning or any FC.
Also, I tried typing this on my tablet. It's now impossible to type (and this isn't limited to browser either) because the tablet is so laggy. Letters are missed, sometimes 3 at a time. I have to hold every button for it to register. Before I could type incredibly fast.
I removed all the widgets and turned off Samsung Apps running in the background, and it's slightly better but still very bad. Any tips guys? Because if not, I'm going to root it and flash a custom ROM. Hopefully the clean start and optimizations will fix it all.

Same thing with me, although I haven't gone through any heavy app use yet, my home screens lag a lot more than they ever did before TW. Google Music also forced closed on me a few times while syncing with the Google servers.
This is after installing a stock build of the OTA via Clockwork. I'm really not too sure what is going on, since mostly everyone else is reporting that everything is very very smooth on their end.
Thanks for the confirmation that at least someone else has my issues. I guess tonight is rooting/flashing night for me. I missed it, after trading my Captivate for a Veer for the next month or two. Though webOS is boss

I Wiped Data and reflashed the ROM, now Im just waiting for a 100 percent charge, and I'm going to try this again. I'll report back.
Here's a question, have you tried restarting the tab, and if you did, did it help any with the lag?
Do a factory restore then after you complete the initial setup, leave it for about 15mins. I did that after I updated since I also noticed some lag on the homescreens and app crashes. Now everything runs smooth as silk and noticeably faster than when it was stock.

Factory restore through settings? I'd need to root it for TiBu first anyway. Thanks, I'll try that before flashing.
Also my tab was completely unmodified. It was android 3.1 as it came out of the box, of which I did the touchwiz OTA update this morning.

OK so I rooted my Tab, flashed Clockwork, backed up all my stuff with TiBu, and factory reset. Most of the lag is gone! I can finally type things really fast without it all going to hell! This makes me happy. Baltic on stock Android keyboard is still gone, but this has been an issue with TouchWiz before on the Captivate. I remember with the Froyo leaks, how the stock keyboard had no haptic... it was fixed eventually. I'm not too worried. So my next step is to flash a new ROM, that one with the black bar. Just for the optimizations, and because I miss flashing since I have a webOS device now. Well thanks for the help with the suggestion for the factory reset, my tablet is usable again! Thanks guys!
Last comment. StarBurst is incredibly smooth I flashed it and can't be happier!
Yeah my problems are mostly gone too. I did a factory reset and then reflashed the rom, then I let it sit after boot-up for 20 minutes, rebooted, let it sit for another 5, and then rebooted again. A lot smoother this time around. Was probably just a bad flash.
Glad yours is working well too!
Hey there all,
I was wondering... my Tablet S device is quite sluggish, delays between swipes, opening & closing programs, typing etc.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I tried reformatting 3 or 4 times to no avail.
Latest version of the Honeycomb OTA update 3.2.1.
Also, flash on the web is ridiculously slow and causes extreme slowdown. For e.g. on the Youtube website, the flash applet itself causes lag when activated (Using Opera Mobile) and I can only watch up to 480p. Anything above that lags and is unwatchable --- I remember reading that this is due to the hardware limitations of the Tegra 2 chip.
Anyhoo,
If anyone has any ideas or just helpful tips on how to make the device run smoother, could you let me know? I bought this device two days ago and am regretting it hard atm hahah. My phone (Gala SII feels so much smoother/responsive than this tablet)
Thanks all.
Well mate I dont have any experience like that, in fact this is the smoothest experience for me yet (i have a evo 3d )
But I noticed some lag when we have a LWP in use, remove that first and try,
And that LWP lag is gone after I flashed UK FW from AiO tool by condi. maybe you should do the same

Oh?
My Tablet S is experiencing some sluggishness too.
Is the UK firmware better than the US firmware? Why did you flash it anyway?
Have you tried using an alternative launcher like ADW EX? The stock Home launcher from Sony is pretty poor. If you drag slow enough to make the preview windows appear at the top of the screen, the frame rate drops significantly. Always found the swipes incredibly responsive otherwise.
I've got a nice performance boost from rooting, then using AdFree and Overclock Widget.

Can't go above 1 Ghz, but you can set it and raise the minimum clock speed to get some more juice out of it. Might help the OP with some sluggishness during basic use.
I have no such problem at all with my tablet s wifi version, even when tethering with my iphone.
Why dont you take it back to the shop and make a complaint?
Thanks to everyone that replied with all those helpful comments.
I have tried everything, standard wallpaper. Format. Rooted.
Hmm maybe it is just my device?
BT keyboard input is really delayed for example. WiFi works due to that workaround (WiFi Locker app) I found using search, though I can't give much praise to the signal strength!
I just assumed the Tablet S was meant to be a bit sluggish (ref: CNET review and others: most say the tablet is a bit sluggish)
Ho dang, unfortunately I can't take it back for repair as I purchased it from eBay! x)
Maybe it's a hardware fault, a certain part(s) aren't working at optimum speeds/levels. I'll try taking it into a service center anyway.
Oh, and i'll try that Overclock widget!
Will report back with findings.
Thanks guys.

I have similar issue. The only solution I'd suggest:
(1) Get a cache remover like "1 Tap Cleaner Free" to remove cache. Cache can be very big ('00MB) in a few weeks.
(2) Get a task watch/killer, to find if there are any resident apps that keep reading activities/data of the tablet. You may then use the killer to kill them or uninstall them. (Frankly, many of those apps available in Play Store are susceptible. They might just want to get something from the user. So sorry that I could have no recommendation. But installing one and remove it afterwards may be fine.)
(3) Sometimes, a simple reboot helps.
Mine is working alright, though not terrific, and is having other issues to resolve. Taking back for service is always the last resort.
I've been on this "new", official ICS for a few days now and seems that from the get go, it's been a bit more sluggish then before.
yes yes, reboot, battery pull, disable this, disable that, re-install, etc etc...
It just seems no matter what I try doing with itt, it just doesn't seem as smooth anymore.
Anyone else experiencing similar ?
Cause Verizon. Is there a reason why you're staying stock? I mean sense 3.6 is crap compared to 4.0. Plus any rom that has ultra smooth rosie pretty much will solve any issues w/ UI lag.
I think it's probably because most of us did a clean install, whereas everyone who got the OTA has a lot of crap left over from Gingerbread. I'd suggest backing up your data, then reboot to the bootloader and choose Factory Reset. This won't get rid of Gingerbread, just restore you to a clean OS. You can also try dialing *2767*3855#, which should offer to reset it for you without needing to go to the bootloader.
For the record, I've never had any problems with 3.6, but I hate the vertical scrolling app drawer. Also, once you go Ultrasmooth Rosie, you never go back.
edit: originally posted a different code but that one was wrong
it's a clean install.
also, i'm currently on 'stock' as this is now the 3rd replacement rezound i've gotten in the past few months(just got it last week).
going to test it out for awhile and see if it's still having the same issues as the others before I bother doing much with it.

That's two different things. Which is it? Slower (sluggish/latency) or not as smooth (jitter)? My experience is that ICS is faster, but just as smooth.
Most people don't mean two different things. He's just simply saying its not as fast as what he experienced in gb nothing more

Sorry for the ignorance but what does that do?
You can also speed up the appearance of your phone when using the stock Sense Launcher, for some reason HTC thinks it's cool to slow down the transitions and animations so they are more noticeable...
Go to Settings -> Developer Settings and select Window Animation Scale and Transition Animation Scale and set each one to "Animation Scale .5x" or "Animation Off", you should notice an improvement in the speed of the UI.

It's fine bro lol. It just uses your gpu instead of your cpu for more things like applications. Since its not having to work like your CPU it should make things a lot smoother.

I wasn't really having a problem as far as lag or jittering but, I did feel the window transitions were taking too long. I applied the changes suggested above and now it feels good. Thank you.

That's the first thing I do when I flash a ROM. The default settings make the UI just too slow.
Hello guys.
I bought my opx last month and for the most part of it I am very happy with the phone. I am an android newbie (I know what the terms flash, ROM, kernel etc mean but never tried something on my phone). One issue that really bugs me (apart from the little lag here and there when moving to shelf or when closing certain tabs from 'recent') is that whenever I select something from the settings, the 'select' animation (that little circle that expands) is really laggy and choppy. On the other hand, I tried it on my friend's opx and is was way smoother. (this was an issue from the start btw it is not that I installed a bad app or something). So, any ideas why this is happening? Should I try to flash a certain ROM or install a custom kernel? Is there a good build that improves performance?
Thanks in advance!

You can try to reduce animation speed in developers options. Perhaps your friend also did this.
backup everything and factory reset the device. it should fix it, if it doesn't then it probably is a hardware issue(unlikely)...
also make sure that you are on the latest version of OOS, i.e. 2.2.0-X.

Actually I removed the animator scale completely because it was very choppy as i said. I tried it at x23 and x50 but still the same. :/
That's really strange. Have you tried factory resetting it? I used the stock rom in it's entirety for about a week and it was perfectly smooth and usable. I only switched to a different kernel because people were saying that it helped 3D performance noticeably (and they were right.).

No I haven't. Maybe I should give it a try. The problem is that I removed animator scale completely and it doesn't bother me anymore, so I am not that motivated to factory reset . Btw, If i want to install the bluespark kernel you are probably talking about, I have to be rooted? Also does installing a custom kernel require a data wipe?

You do need to be rooted and have a custom recovery installed. The cool thing about 1+ is that neither of these things (which requires an unlocked bootloader) will void the warranty. Unlocking the bootloader will wipe the phones data sadly, I've never understood why. My Moto G did the same thing..
I've been running it for the past few days, and its working well. Not ran into any issues with it.
I like that the timer within the clock lets you type in the same way that the google clock does, you can type 3000 to get a 30 min timer, before it only let you type in the minutes or seconds boxes individually.
AOD is a welcone addition, been waiting for it since it was announced, I've not noticed much of a difference to battery life, I can still get to the end of the day with about 40-50% remaining.
I like the android 11 feature where media players are now in the quick toggle area.
I did notice things looked a bit bigger, so I changed my DPI setting to 400 in developer settings and that seems better than before, its not quite the same sizing as on 10.
Looks like the small visual bug for the icons on recents is also fixed
What do people think of it?

Same, laggier than the previous OS 10, i did a clean flash for the stable update, its a bit better than open beta 3 but honestly, not enough, i would like to think that they will improve the user experience in further updates, but i dont know, not too much confidence in OnePlus from my part.

I just used Oxygen updater to get the update quicker, and then just did the upgrade via the regular system update method.
I was considering doing a clean flash, as its jumping up an android version, but I was lazy
Which parts seem laggy to you? I havent really noticed any slow downs, I mainly just noticed that text seems bigger, so tweaking DPI seems to have done the trick.

Unfortunately not, usually Android upgrades (especially with the manufacturer made modifications to UI, system, etc) use up even more resources than in the previous version, so at some point our phones will not be able to handle a stock version of a future Android version. At least LOS etc will help getting us upgrades once OP Nord won't be supported anymore

I just think this happens because of lack of optimization rather than a lack of resources. I mean OP nord with its CPU and 8gb of ram should be perfectly capable of handling android 11 as fine as android 10. I'm not saying the device is useless now, just it's not responsive and fluid as it was with the previous version, and it's a pity
Just want more aod customization and god damn weather in aod and lockscreen.
Everything seems okay on android 11 update But why is the security patch still at January 2021? Updated to new os but still same security patch from android 10
For me the reboot after update did not work. The phone got stuck on the home screen. The next reboot just heated up the phone a lot. Now need to see how it performs during daily use.
the only thing that gets me is that it seems to disable auto-rotate screen on a daily basis
Haven't noticed any performance differences between 10 vs 11. I've never done any factory resets from new. Only debloated all apps i never use. Overall pleased with the Nord.
I just flashed the latest hotfix and must say the system got more snappy overall. Really like it
