Hey guys, recently i found my old S2 GT-I9100, its been a few years since i last used it, and would like to upgrade it now and see how it functions.
The S2 is roots and runs Android 4.4.4. kitkat Cyanogenmod 11 from 2014, Clockworkmod recovery v6.0.5.0.
Which New rom is the most stable and battery efficient, a rom good for a daily driver?
anyone?
I'd stick with KitKat
I flashed CM12/CM13 and it honestly isn't worth it. The apps are laggy and even switching to another activity freezes the device for 3-ish seconds. I'd stick with KitKat honestly. It runs perfect on my i9100P (the NFC model)

Which rom?

I have a few questions sorry if its a repost but id rather make sure I get a good answer to those questions then any other variant of them.
I got a galaxy s2 a week ago and I feel like the battery life is really bad and the phone heats alot sometimes.... (BTW this is my first smartphone EVER) I was wondering which one of all these custom ROMs out there is the best for the galaxy s2? Which one will give me the smoothest experience with a good battery life and fix that heating problem?
Also, I have the Canadian bell's version so MUGKG2... When I look at ROMs all I see is XXKH3 or XXKE7, etc... Basically how and what version do I have to use/install to get a custom ROM? (P.S I know how Odin works and I know how to root since my phone is already rooted)
And what is the latest Android version possible to get on the galaxy s2? I heard something about 4.0 but I think the latest version possible to install is the 2.3.4 am I right? Also, every ROM is 2.3.4 right? Or do I have to flash a 2.3.4 (or 4.0 depending on the latest version) kernel on the phone?
Thanks for your time and have a good day!!!!!!!

Hello, I have the "4g" flavor white back T-Mobile version of this tab and with there being different flavors of the 10.1 I am not sure which rom to use. After rooting the phone and getting revovery installed CM downloaded and installed the wifi version of the rom. I thought I found the nightly thread of the tmo version but revovery wouldn't install it saying that the build version was wrong. So I have gone back to stock until I can get this issue cleared up. I think my build prop may be wrong in the device because com.phone.android force closes on boot on the stock rom (I think I need to reinstall stock). But I am still not sure which flavor of the rom to install. I want the CM ICS.
I am not new to installing and using custom roms. I have been doing this since the MT3GS and have been using CM on that since Froyo. I am currently using MT4GS and currently have the CM ICS alpha 4 on it. I am just a bit confused at this point since it is not cut and dry.

I have this one on now There are also CM9 nightlies on the CM site I believe but no issues with this other than camera. There is a camera patch also that makes the back camera work.

Here is the thread with the camera patch.

Not sure why not many people help on this device it's a very nice device and works great on the T-Mobile network but anytime I ask anything no one ever really answers.
This thread will help you get started

Thank you very much!! I think I have the wrong recovery installed which is causing all my issues. It is seeing my device as a wi-fi only device and not a tmo device.
I just got home a few minutes ago, and I had the wrong recovery installed. I got the right one in and everything is going swimmingly so far. Thank you again!
I wish there were subforums for every flavor instead of everything all mixed up. It makes it confusing when you are dealing with 80 different versions of the same device.
So after this 4.2.2 10.2 update on the Verizon Galaxy S4 which now changed the baseband version to I545VRUAME7 I can no longer access boot recovery to install the latest 4.2.2 10.2 CM Nightlies. That I have deduced from google search.
What I do not understand is why is CM NIghtlies still releasing newer and newer 10.2 nightlies for the Verizon Galaxy S4 if you can not boot into recovery yet.
I really hate the factory operating system. Facebook never works right and I can not even use my Smoothie King APP!!! It keeps force closing. Not to mention, the keyboard is extremely slow and buggy too.
Is there something I do not know?
Thanks
Because anybody who bypassed the bootloader under the old software version (MDK) still has a bypassed bootloader, and some of them want CM10.2. It's only the stock update that breaks the bootloader exploit, not Android 4.2.2 and above in general. You can still install new ROMs to the phone forever as long as you hacked it under MDK, and never put completely stock, unrooted ME7 on it for some reason.
Your question have been answered, but I don't know how you or anyone else is having issues with the stock ROM. Any apps force closing or going slow such as facebook are not the ROM's fault, its the app itself. So you are stuck with the factory ROM for now, and who knows how long. I have been on the stock ROM and it still runs fast enough for me and i've rooted every phone I've owned since the G1.

Had the same issue on the previous 10.1 stock rom. The CM Nightlies ROM fixed my problems and made the Galaxy S4 much faster.
Hi,
Is there any way to install Android 4.4.4 without having to root my phone? Seems like every root I have tried have halfway broken camera, but I still want KitKat running on my phone.

No,you cant flash custom roms without root.
Rooting is pretty easy.Just search the forums and you will find one ! GL :good:
@Fyttikatta: here you find instruction and download for rooting. Before, flash the last firmware, also with Odin, and make a factory reset in recovery (to repair the camera item).
Yes, I'm familiar with rooting, but every ROM I have installed have not worked with Snapchat's record function as well as the camera requires rebooting like every 2nd time I open the app. It becomes quite frustrating, therefore I'm looking for a ROM with a "working" camera
If you want the hardware to work perfectly then you'll have to stick to either stock or stock based rom.

Well, if Samsung could get their sh|t together we wouldn't have had to root our phones.
The only time I've been able to send full length videos on Snapchat was with blekota's s5 rom ages ago. I'm on the latest archidroid right now and loving it, I mean the camera has crashed a couple of times and still video recording cuts out but I've learnt to live with it until I uninstall Snapchat which seems to only crash the camera for me

Root is irrelevant to custom rom, they all come rooted. If you want kitkat with native hardware support then buy a newer phone.

So basically what you are saying is that if you have a PC with Windows Vista, you should buy a new one to get Windows 7? At least with Samsung's flagship phones, the Galaxy S series, they should support for OS upgrades more than a year. Even the S4 have Lollipop, why shouln't the S3 have KK?
PC is totally different, no comparison could be made as Microsoft doesn't own or control the hardware. S3 is over three years old and doesn't have enough memory to run 4.4 stock, yes it could run it but Samsung decided not to bother writing a slimmer firmware.

That is still no excuse. KitKat was released only a year after the S3, and I have been running different versions of it on my S3 with better performance than with stock. Still they decided to give the S4 an overhaul with Lollipop two years after it's release.
Hi
Im currently using AOKP (kitkat) and i think its time for an upgrade...are there any stable and good marshmalow ROMs or should i stick with kitkat
And i know i should probably know the next question but here it is:
What do i do to flash a new rom....do i just reguraly flash it using recovery app or.....?
And what is a good way to backup and/or sync my data so that i will get my apps back as soon as i turn on the Wifi
Tnx 'n' have a good day
No-one will recommend roms. Its personal preference.
If you want a marshmallow rom it would be best to buy a faster, newer phone. The I9300 was never designed to run anything past 4.3.
