I agree with you it is not as popular as other smartphones. I think this is heavily due to its size and the probably the lumia 1020. But so far i am using the s4 zoom for 2 weeks i have not yet encountered any problems. I have use its camera in day and night and the picture quality really makes me dont care about its size. Bought straps to pull it out easily from my pocket and a cover that protect the screen so that i could the phone upside down without the scare of scratching my phone. Many of my friends were like "what is that is a phone?" when the phone rings. A few of my friends said the would buy it but majority of them did not like the big size of the phone. I am quite impressed with its battery life. For my normal usage with my data plan turn on it could easily last one and a half day. However if i snap a lot of pictures using the xenon flash it could only last for one full day which i am still more then happy with it. In terms of gaming apps i haven't yet put it to the test yet. So far for apps not even a single app has crash and the phone has never went on a software crash. Fought with my friends iphone 5 siri and was quite happy with results. I am starting to love this unique phone.

I don't mind to have a multi purpose device even through it's size is bigger It always my dream to have a camera + smart phone together. :victory:
but shame of samsung, it doesn't launch LTE at my region
I agree with you. Most of the cellphone are pretty much the same, big screen, better cpu's etc... i want my device to be more than that. To be a multi function device.

I love my new s4 zoom too.
I was previously using note2 which function well but without optical zoom
the s4 zoom 24-240mm equivalent lens and the relatively bigger sensor make it a perfect handy backup camera for daily use.:good:
as a father of 2 children, I can hardly always carry my sony NEX mirrorless system around

Seems this phone not popular cuz of the design, its a CAMERA with phone function . But i bought one to replace my trusted camera phone PV808 (symbian :crying. this camera + android function really a good choice for casual photographers
totally love it ! yeah, our phone/camera -multidevice its something more then casual trend, but why not, we are geeks My "problem" was, that i won it in one competetion, & i was not really decided if i want it, keep it or sell it... but ive decided to keep it, start using it & from that time its really hard for me to leave him for a sec im totally amazed, photos are perfect (for me as a casual photographer), performance is great, ive tested all the new games (asphalt8 too) and they works without any problem.... i love my SGS4 ZOOM !

Haha Someone with a similar thought process as me. Im a NEX owner (not a father though, does a dog count?). Im due for an upgrade in the next few months and have been umming and arring about this one. I tend to carry a point and shoot with me everywhere. My thoughts were that this, although much bigger than my blackberry that I currently use, would be a smaller alternative to the combination I carry with me on a day to day basis.
I also have a Nikon v1, but thats a discussion for a different forum.
So I'm curious. What about your Note 2 keeps your interest in it?
Size, software, hardware (including S-pen), choice of ROMs, etc..
For me its size. I love the size of the phone and the display alone enough for me to love it without considering anything else. But, I will of course.
This is strictly for curiosity and conversation. That's it.

I'd have to say it's also the size. I see every other phone my friends and family use and it always makes me laugh and til this day everyone always compliments it or always say something funny about its size.

Same sentiments here. The size kept me coming back, and now I don't even look at other phones....I used to switch every week or two.

It's how awesome porn looks on the screen.
The fact that my contract isn't up with Verizon and I don't have enough money to buy a new phone outright.
Honestly, I'm done with giant phones these days. The moto x will be my next phone when I more to t-mobile.
For me it's the size of the screen, the crisp display, and the performance.
I use my Note 2 more than I use my laptop.
Some friends and family members make fun of its size, but when I'm with them and they want to do something on the internet, they start on their phone then say "let me see your phone".
I don't understand how they can say they love the size of their phone then want to see mine to view the internet.
For the same reason my wife stays with me...
Seriously tho, this device has a great screen, battery life, and performance...Sure the S4 has better hardware specs, but at this point in time better hardware offers diminishing returns at best. The Note 3 will have to be a major imorovement before I consider upgrading or else I may hold off until the Note 4...thats right I said it.
The size is definitely the main attraction, but I also love the S-Pen and the battery life. I switched from the S3 to the Note 2, and now whenever I try to use the S3, it feels so damn tiny in comparison.
For me, it's because most of my friends with S3/S4's don't even know about the Note 2, so when they ask me what kind of phone I have I say the S4. Then I act really surprised when my phone is bigger than theirs and I tell them they must have gotten the mini.

ROFL....too funny!!
For me it's the screen size and the boat load of ROM choices to give me a different phone weekly, or daily if I choose.
I like the size but I wish it was the size of the note. I think I like it because its got the most functionality of any phone I've ever seen.
There's nothing you can't do with this thing.
I like to keep a smart dock plugged into my entertainment center. Then setting across the room I'll control it with my ps3 controller.
calling this a phone is kinda like calling your home computer an email checker. literally these are little computers that also text and make phone calls. I have hade a few phones I've been missing with phones since the first razor cam out. I've just never seen anything this versatile before.
Size & quality of the display is nice for my aging eyes and fat fingers.
Battery capacity...all day easily.
Ability to take an SD card for additional memory.
Android customizability (sp?)
All these make this phone more attractive to me than most of the current crop of similar size.

Most likely people who shouldn't have an S4 in the first place then.
I have an S4, and my mom has the Note 2, but i frequently do 1 handed typing, and on the note its just a litle bit big for 1 hand to accurately type. I know the Note has the 1 handed option, but i'm not a big fan of that layout, and the 5 inch display on the S4 is perfect for me. I also like the colours and crispness more than on the note 2, and obviously the stronger hardware. I find even when i was doing work on my moms phone, i never really found any practical uses for the S-Pen that i would even consider it useful for me. It's all just personal preference though, but i laugh that i used to think the iPhone 4 was the perfect phone back in the day.
Its a very nice device though, and its nice to have the slightly larger screen for videos and games, but for me 5 inches is the sweet spot for the ultimate balance between functionality and ease of use.

I think the S4 is definitely the best size, but first thing I look at when getting a phone is the development for it, because we passed the point where hardware can make a difference in the performance of this relatively light OS (Android compared to Windows or Mac), so really the most powerful phone is now the one with the most capable software available for it. I wish my phone was the S4 size, but I don't think I can even use a ROM that doesn't haven't floating multiwindows at this point. I run every app in a window now.

I'm pretty sure the floating multiwindow features will eventually come to the S4, that is Multitasking to the max, but there are still some alternatives and you can get a close to similar experience on the S4. And things like Nottach etc, bring the other functionalities such as the horizontal split messenger/contacts and all the other goodies that stock S4 users miss out on.

gonna have copy you on this one.. have many friends that have finally switched from an iphone and they have S3 or S4
My wife has the S4 and it does have alot of features and extra sensors etc... that are cool
but with my note 2 i dont need a charger at work or in the car anymore. I Sometimes i have to charge it when i go to sleep or every other day depending on how heavy i use it..
S4 pockets alot nicer but I dont wear girl jeans "cough" skinny jeans so the note 2 fits perfectly..
I dont use the pen as heavily as i thought i was going to but the times i have needed it, it has save me a headache and time which saves me money ..
playing games on it watching videos is alot better and easier on the eyes
Also im not worried about if i have to many things open at the same time it will slow down the phone..
Mult window is a big HELP as well.
Hey guys I'm trying to decide which of these devices I should upgrade to. Mainly asking the people who have had both the one and the g2.
I'm leaning towards the one because of the great speakers and I've heard the screen has more accurate colors. The screen is my biggest priority I want the most realistic looking screen for pics and vids. Do u notice the 40 pixel density difference? The difference in super LCD vs IPS?
Also will the g2 get decent dev support? Another reason im leaning towards the one.
Also interested in overall experience. Thanks for your input.

So it looks like the ones screen is better in most of those graphs?
I have both HTC one and LG G2 but I had sold the One already.
1. 5.2" > 4.7" (But the size & hand feel is similar)
2. Snapdragon 800 > Snapdragon 600
3. HTC One has purple camera issue (physical damage to CMOS due to over exposed, not fixable, need to send back to HTC to change the camera)

Me too I am thinking of swapping my One with G2 because of the camera and screen (too small)
I am just afraid to miss the loud volume of the One,can you make the G2 as loud as the One thank to tweaks??

HTC One dev support doesnt help on the VZW version (considering they quickly shut down the HTC Dev site before anyone could root/unlock bl)
I can see the G2 dev support being close to the same as the Gnex, and thats saying a lot.

Yeah that's right. Especially Viper ROM for the HTC One is the best custom ROM I've ever seen on any Android device. The possibilities for tweaking stuff are endless. It would be very hard for me to give up on this.

Just curious, what gives you that idea? It would be awesome if true, but it's kind of hard to believe. GNex support has been awesome since the beginning and, while tapering off now 2 years later, is still going strong.
I'm a manager at a verizon store and I own both devices right now. Personally the One is a good device and all but its already an old device and the dev support is there if you get s-off which by no means is easy. Hboot 1.54 is virtually impossible to get around at the moment unless you send your device somewhere to get it done. Even though I use apex launcher to skin Sense 5 wasn't horrible besides blinkfeed because you cant get rid of it at all. Battery sucks on the One also and there's no denying that. The one has a beautiful screen and the speakers and the build quality thats it. The g2 has awesome battery and the screen is awesome. Software wise I actually like there skin but you can easily root and change stuff. The g2 will have good dev support I believe. In the end its up to you though but either phone you will like. :good:
I'll chime in too.
I had the One and now the G2, with a brief two-week stint on an S4 as well. I prefer the G2 overall to all of these devices. The screen is fantastic and once you look at it, it's hard to go back to the 4.7" screen of the HTC One. I know the question was "which has more accurate colors?" but as far as usability and pleasing to the eyes, it's the G2 hands down (for me).
What completely sold me was the battery life of the G2. My One was dead by the end of my work day and the G2 battery life is easily hours longer. Strangely enough, the device does not feel any larger than the One in any way. I love the rear buttons, the camera is great and really the only thing I can see the One having is front-facing speakers. Yes, I will miss those, but it's a rare occasion where I actually rely on my phone speakers for entertainment.
All in all, I think the G2 is the best phone out right now. I would have tried the Xperia Z1, but I'm not playing the waiting game for a US release again (and it will probably be $759 anyhow). I walked into the AT&T store and paid the retail price of $579 for this G2 and will never look back. Yes, it's plastic, but it's built extremely well and just feel lovely to hold. It's so much phone for $579, especially considering the retail prices of the other two I had were higher, if not significantly.
Oh, one last thing - the G2 has a notification light that you can actually see. The One has one that you can see if you know which of the 200 speaker grill holes to look at
Edit: One last, last thing...I rooted mine, installed TWRP and flashed Scott's CleanROM this morning. With all the AT&T junk gone, this phone is darn near perfect.

I called about 10 different Tmobile stores in the Western Chicagoland area. 8 of them have the phone in stock but none have it in white. I was told I would have to wait until Wednesday 9/25/13 to see if its available on the official launch day...
That sux. I had my One all packed up ready for exchange...
Personally, If you're choosing between them, I think your thread & my thread have just about all the different reasons why we should switch to the G2.
It seems the general consensus are people who had the HTC One are happier they switched to the G2 despite all the Boomsound speakers the One provides.
You lose that with the G2 but gain in all other departments. That's why I'm switching

Carried by all major carriers, and international
Spec-wise its a developers (and geeks) dream
Already been rooted and Loki-d so its ready to receive any custom ROM developed for it.
I don't think it will be very long before we see CM on it either. It seems to be that once CM is there, lots and lots follow.
Ive used a ton of different ROMs on my Gnex but I keep coming back to the same 2 or 3, and I know at least one of them is fully prepared to port to the G2 if they can get the files/hardware they need.

For a pretty hardcore Apple Fanboy, he seemed quite amazed with what the Note 8 (and Android in general) could do that the iPhone couldn't. Many Apple users who've never used an Android just assume an iPhone is superior to an Android in every respect because they get sucked into the Apple Reality Distortion Bubble and don't have an informed opinion. It was refreshing to see this guy give credit where credit was due instead of just focusing on Android's weaknesses to the exclusion of all else, like many other Apple-leaning reviewers.

Just wait til regular people get the iPhone X in their hands. The first time they see an OLED screen and an edge-to-edge display, they'll think it's the second coming of Steve Jobs. I remember a lot of iPhone users (and even professional reviewers) making fun of the early Notes because they were gigantic compared to the 5-inch iPhones then. Now you have a lot of Plus users who'd never think of going back to a phone the same size as a 5s or SE.

It will be hilarious watching the Apple fanbois get hard over technology that's already been on Android for ages and proclaim it to be "game changing" and more reason iPhones are better than Android. Clueless little twats.
In that video, the one-handed mode allowed for custom sizing... mine doesn't do that. Am I the only one? And that swiping in from the top corner to get a little floating window... what the heck is that?? Mine is not doing that either! Is this maybe a launcher-specific thing? I can still get one-handed mode but it's locked to one size for me (using the sideloaded Pixel Launcher right now).
Also, this guy is extremely entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed this video!

I turned on the "popup view" and it shows that resizing in the settings menu. In practice, it just pulls down my notification shade or does nothing for me. Oh well.
I know nobody from OnePlus gives a damn anymore and I'm just here ranting to no one. But I just need to express my anger somewhere.
I'm a proud owner of the OnePlus One, part of the first bunch of invites, served me for 4 years and still works to this day, the battery is just a bit dead. Then I bought he 5T which is in my opinion one of the best phones ever made for my purposes. I don't do photos, I'm an IT admin that just needs a pocket PC that has plenty of utilities available and the 5T had everything i need.
After 5 years of service the 5T even though it is still working, just dies on me at 25% probably because of the 3rd party battery and also has general slowness and gets stuck sometimes but overall it has a metal body, headphone jack, read ceramic fingerprint and ACTUAL OxygenOS 10.0.1
I literally just opened the box of the 10T and I find myself with a brick of plastic that apparently from what I've seen in the videos it doesn't even withstand water (which the 5T does veeeery well even if not officially rated) that doesn't have an headphone jack.
Started messing with it and i found myself in a situation that made me start thinking if i should send it back or not. Here's a brief list:
I cannot unlock the phone unless i first double tap and then the fingerprint sensor is available while with the 5T i can literally touch the rear ceramic sensor and it instantly unlocks while turned off, which increases significantly the unlock time and pisses me off even further.
The bottom navigation buttons are not customizable like they where with 10.0.1, I set the square button to lock the phone with a long press, now i cannot do it since it instead opens split screen app that I NEVER use.
The Oneplus shelf is now available from a top scroll down on the status bar ( WHAT THE F***??????) and instead of the shelf now we have F****** Google Discovery page that you cannot even disable if you want to and from what I've seen some people handled to hide with an app made for Oppo's ColorOS.
The pattern lock on the lockscreen is way too high, i understand the sensor is at the bottom but there are literally 5cm available where only the emergency contact button is (not even at the middle of the gap which triggers my OCD) I have big hands but still have to reach the top and it's hella annoying.
For some reason it is now illegal to have circle app icons since you cannot choose that shape, but there is some weird ass other shape, go figure
Settings app got completely butchered, i can't find anything and, for instance i still didn't find the parallel apps and pocket mode and why the hell are the icons and fonts so big in there, what is the purpose??
Why are all Google Apps picking up the wallpaper color and changing their theme, it looks like garbage, I just want it black i tried every way and unticked the option but still doesnt work they are all pink-reddish It's disgusting, why am i not allowed to set it black??
Where is the advanced power menu option??? I want to be able to select the boot to recovery and boot to bootloader option not just the lame poweroff and reboot
If you go to the task manager, you press "close all" the phone decides which apps to close to "have optimal performance". ***** i clicked close all to actually close all, if i wanted you to decide what to close I'd have clicked that... This is pure idiotism. It even trolls you because you click it and closes everything except the current opened app and reopens that one....
Where are the ROMs ??? The list of devices on the site stops at the 9 pro https://www.oneplus.com/support/softwareupgrade and then there is the Nord series. I want the Official ROM zip.
What's funny is that my best friend bought one too and when it arrived 2 days ago he found that the power brick had the type C connector broken inside.
Now I'm sitting here thinking if i should pack it and send it back.
This is disappointing af. I need good specs and easy root with stock android, am I asking too much here ?
Both Android OS (since Pie) and phones (Samsung at least) have taken a dive from 2019.
I'm still running stock Note 10+'s one on 9 the other 10. I see nothing new I like. I absolutely demand expandable storage and good SOT. I'm set for another 2-3+ years.
Meh, give it das boot and find something that fulfills its mission for you.
Lots of older models including some that are new, unused. My last N10+ I bought was one of those. Unlike a used phone the factory sealed ones will be loaded with the OS version at time of manufacture. If you hate 11 and especially 12 as much as me, it's a no brainer. My N10+'s will likely never be upgraded... they run very well as is. Anything from Pie up is reasonably secure unless you do something stupid.
We feel your OnePlus pain since they and most OEM's have been trending downward! Not a good sign of things to come....
Return would be one of your options....
Cheers
The advanced boot menu and the original version bootloader of oneplus 5 is the best for advanced user.
My oneplus 5 is still working (battery is replaced once) but the price of oneplus 10t is very attractive.

That's ColorOS for you. If you really want pure OOS (11 and below), get a 9 pro/8 Pro/8T
I feel your pain. This ColorOS/Oxygen rom totally sucks. But I'm going to keep mine because there is no such specification on the market for this price (Snapdragon 8+ Gen, 16GB RAM, 256GB storage for $650). I hope someone will create custom roms (KOSP, YAAP) in the future.
Bought and used the 10 Pro for about 2 months and sold it.
Bought the Nothing Phone 1 and used it for 1 month....will probably pack it and sell it off soon
Been using the 10T for 3 days......can't comment yet
But overall i'll keep my 9 Pro and as soon as i get pissed with the 10T, i'll just move my sim back to the 9 Pro and i'm good to go.
Suggest you look at the 9 Pro as it's considered a year old device and it's way cheaper compared to when it first launched. Also there are loads of custom ROM for the 9 Pro now.
So i saw several reviewers mention OP10T 's performance is worse compared to other sd 8+ gen 1 phones like IQOO9T etc. Some speculate it's due to OnePlus locking cpu frequencies. Any OP10T owner that runs benchmarks, plays heavy games can comment on this?

It's well-known by this point that OnePlus throttles the SoC since the 888. If you want full performance, you have to toggle performance mode in battery settings. Keep in mind that doing so will have a massive battery penalty as it stops the little cores from down clocking.

Ah gotcha i haven't used a one plus device in 6 years, my 10T will arrive in two days. I'm fine with the battery penalty since if i am gaming i usually have a charger around and that ridiculous charging speed makes up for it. I also have a pelteir cooler if performance mode makes it heat up. Looks like a good custom kernel would go a long for this device.

You have summed this up for me so well. You are not alone. I still consider the 5T to be the best overall phone OnePlus has ever created. At the time, it beat all the flagships for 50% of their price. Easy root and dev friendly. Bulletproof too. Mine still works but my son lost it. It was HEAVY daily use for 5+ years until then.
I moved on to the OP7TP5GMcLaren (after trying the 8 pro and sending it back). It was slightly annoying for bootloader because I had to submit to oneplus to get the unlock code (before they found the bypass) but still worked. No custom roms but it was actually a decent experience and still handles games and dev tasks quite well.
Now I'm holding my 10T and I'm not sure if I should wait or send it back and wait. This fake oxygenOS ain't it. IF I return this phone, I will pick up the Redmi k50 (gaming or ultra) to hold me over. They have good specs at similar pricing but I will take a hit on band coverage. Which might be worth it at this point. I want to at least give this a week but so far, nothing has blown me away. I do like how much it feels like the 5T in hand. But it does not feel as premium as the 7TP/8P. I like the flat screen. I'm trying to love the things I like to be patient.
I don't blame oneplus for all of it, Android in general is still pretty buggy for being on version 12 - but I'm not heading to iOS so I'm here.
I might unlock bootloader, root and just skip otas forever. Breaking Netflix/drm is not ideal.
I will pitch in on OP10T crowdfunding for devs to get their hands on phones to work with
There is a "fast unlock". Seems to work well. Sleep->unlock by fingerprint on the scanner

I tried that but it doesn't help much.
I still didn't return it but I'm about to throw it on the wall every time I tap "close all" in the task manager since it doesn't actually kill all apps but decides by itself that the current app I'm using has to be still opened.
Plus i can't live without notification LED and didn't find a single app that emulates it decently. Only one that does something is "Always on edge" but works randomly and more half the times doesn't work at all
They don't care at lie at any moment.
As someone with a 8T im scared. I don't know what to do anymore, my 8T is fine for now but then what? I don't see any MSM tools for the 10 Pro or the 10T. Go with a pixel? I'm actually just considering a iPhone for the first time since the 3GS. Been with android for over 10 years, i'm tired.
I appreciate the candor of OP @seanwlk , and can agree that the industry has become very hostile to the types of people like us who frequent XDA and mod our phones. I also place at the top of my list the requirement to have an easy unlocked bootloader to root.
That being said, I can't help but sense a little over the top reactions from everyone in the forums as well as YouTubers complaining about OnePlus. Full disclosure I have been using OnePlus since the 3T, but I am not a 1+ employee or shill, and I too was frustrated initially and tried out the Pixel 6 before returning it and coming back to 1+. The alternative besides 1+ and Pixel is the Sony Xperia. But the Xperia is way overpriced and overheats, plus is a hassle to root. But it is a great looking phone, and has expandable storage and a headphone jack.
Reasons I returned to OnePlus and rejected Pixel (caveat: both being equal in terms of bootloader unlock and rooting support)
Gestures. Screen off media controls, flashlight, three finger screenshot, ect....have tried Motorola, Essential, HTC, Sony.....OnePlus does it the best IMO. Didn't realize how much I used these and would miss them
Only Android to have an alert slider (and yes I know the 10T doesn't, but they recently revealed they don't plan on keeping it permanently removed. Dumb move IMO to remove it at all, but at least they will be bring it back). This is a big reason I went with the 10 Pro
Hands down, the best fast charging, both wired and wireless. Didn't realize how much it
Other small tweaks, like the native ability to hide status bar icons, the OnePlus font, layout of settings.
Also, I personally don't understand the hate for the influences of ColorOS. I find the larger UI is easy to press and navigate, especially from the notification shade when out and about in sunlight. I don't mind the "new" OOS. But again, to each their own.

That's why I went with a 10 Pro: Metal and IP68, plus it has the alert slider which the 10T doesn't.
that doesn't have an headphone jack.

Most phone companies started doing this 5 years ago after Apple started the insanity, not a OnePlus unique complaint

Nova solves all of this.....lets you use Legacy icons and disable the "Reshape" BS that Android now does to icons.

Yes, the placement of fingerprint reader on the 1+9 I agree it's a little lower than I would have liked, but it's not that bad, right? I just decided to get used to it since I couldn't change it. Didn't ever really bother me. And now I use the 10 Pro which is placed higher

Netflix breaking due to bootloader unlock or root is extremely easy to remedy, a TON of forum posts with Zygisk and USNF....

Scared of what?
Not sure why you mention MSM tools and then immediately suggest Pixel, as it's Tensor chip is Exynos which means no MSM type tool since that is Qualcomm only
What makes you want to go to iPhone?
Also, the Exynos modem in the Pixel 6 was terrible with reception for both WiFi and cellular. Another big reason I returned it besides the ones I mentioned

I tried that. I tried a modified usnf also. I didn't have any success but that really isn't the deal breaker for me anyway. It was lack of msm, fake OxygenOS (which could be remedied in time with real msm for devs), and the general navigation and features of this "OxygenOS". The charging was great. Nothing else stands out enough. Never Settle indeed.
I'm waiting for OnePlus to stop playing their "we emailed the return label" game. It appears to be something that happens to many people when they want to return a phone. The return label never arrives to email and some get harassed into keeping their phone after it misses the return window. I have a few more days left. Each day they say it will arrive within 24 hours
