Hi
I was thinking of buying a Sony Tablet Z LTE version locked to a major European carrier. Has anyone successfully unlocked theirs from their carrier, and if so, how?
Also I spotted a couple of issues whilst playing with the demo model in the store:
- the battery seemed to be losing charge even though it was displaying the charging icon, whilst only playing video
- the home screen was a little laggy, obvious after it came out of demo mode
- I had trouble dragging icons across the screen - I am not sure if this was the surface coating, the hardware responsiveness or the software?
To be fair the tablet has probably been plugged in and turned on for 6 months continuously, but are these typical behaviours?
Any advice greatly welcomed!

Usually the storefront devices aren't updated to the latest versions. Typically they use the software version that the tablet launched with, so it will be laggy. I can say that with the latest updates most of these flaws, especially touchscreen have been fixed.

Thanks - the apparent battery drain was a little off-putting - is this now fixed?
Also does anyone have any information about carrier unlocks?

The charger provided is a bit on the slow side - normally tablets get 2.1A chargers but Sony provided 1.5A chargers which take quite long to charge - I usually leave my tablet charging overnight. It's possible that if you push the tablet, the tablet could discharge whilst being charged.
As for carrier unlocking, I do not know. I got my tablet from Sony, not from a carrier.

Thanks so much for the feedback. One more question - how is the screen colour - is it realistic or a little over saturated?

I personally really like the screen. Nothing like the screen on the Xperia Z. Good viewing angles and accurate colours. You may find colours becoming quite saturated when looking at images as Bravia Engine saturates the colours to make it look better at the expense of accuracy, but that can be turned off if you so desire.

Hi everyone,
New G3 user here, absolutely love this phone. I got a Qi charging sticker (http://amzn.com/B00MMRWS5E) and charger (http://amzn.com/B00F1SHFJA) on Amazon and both seem to work great, except for one minor hiccup: when my phones reaches 100%, the charging will shut off completely. It does not appear to trickle-charge; I put my phone on the charger at night and when I wake up my battery is often somewhere in the 90-99% range and the Battery panel in settings shows it as being off charge for sometimes several hours. I've searched high and low on these forums and through Google, and come up empty.
This issue isn't really a big deal, except that it messes with the Tasker profile I have set up to pair to my Bluetooth stereo when wireless charging (for music alarm). I realize there are ways to tweak the profile to work around this anomaly, but I'd really like it to work this way and I can't shake the idea that something is borked with my phone.
Anyone else experienced this? Is this standard behavior for this phone? My next thought is to try another wireless charger (the Tylt looks pretty cool) and see if that has any impact on it.

I have no issue, put the phone on the charger at night and in the morning it still shows charging at 100%.. I would suggest trying a different charger, I got generic one on ebay, sticker and pad cost a total of $8 and it works great.

I ordered this one http://amzn.com/B00JA7HNZO, it'll be here Monday and I'll report back.
I got three of these for $8 each with free prime shipping a while back. they work fine on my lg g3 and my wifes samsung gs4
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Char...420952241&sr=1-6&keywords=qi+wireless+charger
Testing wired charging tonight to rule out if this problem happens with wireless-only charging or any charging method. I'm starting to suspect my qi charger more and more, but this will tell us for sure.
Turned out my original Qi charged was faulty - new charger came today and everything works great! Phone charges to 100% and trickle-charges from there, and best of all it doesn't bork up my Tasker profile. All is well in the world.
Case closed.
EDIT:
Here's the one I got that caused this problem: http://amzn.com/B00F1SHFJA
And here's the one that does not cause the problem: http://amzn.com/B00JA7HNZO
Hey.
So i got a chance to trade my used Oneplus one for a used Sony xperia z2 like new with all accessories sealed and the dock head to head.
What do you think I should do and why?
If you have experience with both please elaborate! What's better and what's worse?!
Thx.

I never had oneplus one, but in xperia you will surely enjoy the waterproofness.
However there's one important thing while getting a xperia device, a warranty. Make sure that it's there and valid. Also before changing to xperia check whether the headphones jack works.
Sent from Xperia Z2
Seeing your signature, how do you compare the M8 and the Z2?!

Surely Xperia Z2 is better.. In Oneplus, CM is Stock.. So no other option. In Z2, Stock is entirely different and its almost as fast as CM ROMs.. OnePlus is good for its price, but when u change to a Z2 its an entirely different game. You would experience a whole new level of Camera experience in Z2(With all the add-ons as well) and also battery backup is better on Z2. Performance is similar coz of the same CPU and same amount of RAM. One more advantage is Z2 is Water-resistant(IP58).. U can take it to swim, shower, etc and have lots of fun.. Also Z2 is built tough unlike Z3 or OnePlus.. U need not worry about your Z2 falling down from your hands.. U should just know how to use the device when u get it.. Use Google and Youtube and xda as well and do a lot of reading so you'll understand the device better..

Well the guy was kind enough to handle it to me for trial!
I'm using it and the software is nice, smoothly operating!
However, comparing to Oneplus One I can find the following drawbacks:
-Slow charging! WHY THE HELL ON EARTH DID SONY NOT ADOPT 2amps CHARGERS!!!
-Low volume! Especially during speaker on calls! Closed the windows and turned off the radio while driving and still barely heard my wife!

- Charging is NORMAL in z2 provided its 3200mah and it takes 2hrs n 15 mins approx for me in here from 0-100.
- Low volume on speakers are only on 167 fw which got lower compared to 4.4.2 and i am sure that it will be fixed in next update which will be Lollipop. About calls, enable Speaker Voice Enhancement and it will be more than enough to burst your ears..

135 Minutes? with the Original EP880 charger and no fast charge activated?
That might be true from 0-80% but i've never managed to reach 100% under 180 minutes.

I used a stopwatch on my other phone to check the time.. Approx 2.40 hrs it was.. Its been around same ever since. Voltages may vary from country to country, depending on the kind of wall socket too.. I see American wall sockets are different, in here in India, we use old fashioned wall sockets, so old fashioned chargers..
I had both and sold the one plus.
Actually I had 3 OPOs, the first one was perfect and I gave it to a friend of mine (because I had allready my Z2).
The second was dead on arrival and after a fight with the oneplus support I got refunded.
The third one had the yellow band issue and I sold it on ebay because the oneplus support blocked all my request.
The Oneplus is a gread phone IF it is in perfect condition, but the support is beyond everithing.
But lets compare the facts.
Batterie lifetime: I had about 6-7h of screen on time with the one and 8-9h with the Z2.
The stamina mode is very impressive and does it's job well.
Screen: If you have no yellow band, I would call it a draw. About the same brighness and point of view.
Bands: The OPO lacks of LTE band 20 so here in Germany two of the major three carriers are NOT supported.
Camera: Sony has an OIS, the OPO not. If your bootloader is locked and your DRM keys intact, pictures in dark scenes are better with the Z2. But only with working bionZ. Rooted they about the same.
Handling: One point for the OPO here. For it's size it fits realy well. The Z2 is just like a brick.
Hi all,
The problem I have is rather well known and sooner or later will probably hit every S3 user out there. I'm asking this question to see if someone found a solution now.
I've been using my S3 till it premiered in 2012 so I'm aware of most surprises it can throw at me. The first time I encountered charging issues was a few months after I purchased the phone. Then I found a solution on XDA - a charger&cable duo needed to be replaced. I did that, the problem went away for another few months.
Till now this phone munched several sets of chargers and a few batteries. I always used Galaxy Charging Current app to pick the best charger, but it started to become a challenge. Right now I can neither use power banks nor charge from USB. No car charger works. The best I have are S5 stock charger and some Sony replacement one, but they give 400 ma for 20 minutes at most, then it falls to 0 i I need to reconnect the charger.
And finally I borrowed a 2A Xiaomi charger... and that gives a solid 1A charge. I'm going to buy myself one, however I know it's a temporary fix.
The problem is definitely of hardware origin - I used different ROMs / kernels. It's either USB port or some charging module.
Have anyone by no figured out what is responsible for S3 losing ability to charge properly? Is it worth to resolder the charging port?
No water drop ? (corroded usb port or cold solder joint)
I'm currently using a S3 as my so-called main phone and I have no battery or charging issues at all.
However, I did get this phone for free with the motivation that the battery is fried and it holds no charge.
Like you're saying, alot of S3 owners are experiencing theese issues you describe.
Allthough I DON'T know the reason for why this happens, what I do know is that the problem stopped for me as soon as I flashed my ROM with Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Unofficial - Dated 2015-12-18 ) and TWRP.
So I guess that's my recomendation. It's actually a real nice OS with loads of great features.
EDIT: I would like to add that I'm still using the same battery that was in the phone when I got it.
I opened the package and started the phone, it only had 19% battery left, so I plugged it into the charger. At about 75% I took it off the charger to set it up. During the setup the phone rebooted once randomly.
After this I continued setting up my apps (instagram/whatsapp etc) and when the phone reached 60% the screen just went off. Nothing else happened since, I used the original charger overnight to charge it. But nothing happens. Also no response when I connect it to a computer.
I tried a hard reset with the power off and volume buttons, but nothing happens. The phone is not responding anymore.
It has been on the charger now for several hours. Still no luck.
Just a red LED light flashing on and off. No vibrations, nothing
Doesn't sound too good. I got mine last week and it has randomly rebooted itself twice. It also crashed whilst doing the OTA update to 20170321. Had to use flash tool to blast whole ROM onto it. It's now intermittently not seeing the SIM card. First impressions of this device are not good!
My Device came in with 19% battery charged, at 16% it shut down..
I charged it up to 35% while off, then continued to about 75% before I took it off again. Never been on yet
Umi z pro dead
I received my UMIDIZI z pro on the 5th of April 2017. While charging, I setup my Google account, opened playstore, tried downloading whatsapp, during buffering period, phone just died.
No signs of life whatsoever. No buttons work, no lights, no nothing. It's basically now an umidizi z pro brick (an expensive brick).
I think this phones did not go through any forms of quality control prior to shipping....

Ofcourse, not every phone of theirs is bad. It's just that they have terrible quality control at the end of the lind. I guess this is why so many peopel recieve defective phones.
My previous phone UMI Max was perfect, just a little mark on the screen, but no biggie. My UMI Super, also perfect, no issues.
But now, I thought I'd get the flagship, Umidigi Z pro -> DEAD

In Ali Express you can find the quick charger for Umi Plus. It's the same. Check the Voltage and Amp in the product page picture and compare it with your original.
Umi Z Pro died within 6 weeks. Flagship seems to be a complete shipwreck to my humble opinion and warranty and support from Banggood sucks big time. No recommendation or whatsoever on Banggood and Umidigi. I take my loss and move on, with a good warning to other customers, if it sounds to good to be true, there might be something horribly wrong.
umi zpro wont turn on blinking red light
i have had for 3 months got very hot a few times but last night went to bed it had 175 CHARGE ,WOKE UP IT WAS FLAT AND TURNED OFF.WONT RESPOND TO CHARGING.i just get a slow blinking red light when i plug a cord in.nothing works
Some Tests for the red light
<SUMMARY>
When the red light just on/off slowly, the UMI said it's a "low battery issue".
But in my test, the battery is fully charged and seems the phone can not recognize the battery voltage.
Any ideas? How we can fix it?
<SUMMARY>
Hi,
############ You can skip here #############
I pre-ordered Umi Z on Banggood and get my phone at Feb, 2017.
I had experienced the battery expansion at Apr, 2017, and I asked the repair service to the banggood after detached the battery because I was worried about the explosion.
Then banggood said open the housing means lost the warranty.
So, I bought the new batteries from aliexpress and it works.
############ You can skip here #############
And two month ago, I dropped the phone from the stair, the display had broken, but the phone works.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/vGe5YJTit9aWB65x7
However, one more drop, it died.
So I changed the display. (I saw this video to refer youtu.be/v5YXRrKM2R8 )
But it's not resurrected with red light on/off slowly. The symptom is same as this video. ( https://youtu.be/_ylNyhsT8kk )
When I search it on the google, there are many people that had same experience.
In the UMI Forum, the moderator said it's just a battery issue. The red light means there are no charged battery. ( community.umidigi.com/thread-12002-1-1.html )
So I got a question, "is it really the battery problem?"
First, I tried install a new ROM by the SPFT for ensure that the mainboard works.
I could get the green circle on the SPFT, so it seems the mainboard is fine.
Then I checked the voltage at the mainboard. There are three dots near the battery slot and it seems same as the battery voltage.
So I checked the voltage on the two dots and get 4.17v when the phone connected with the usb cable. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/PG7nkGNQBASNFhex8 , https://photos.app.goo.gl/x85LowiKt21sghik7 )
4.17v is the charging voltage, so it also seems the mainboard is fine.
At this moment, I thought maybe the battery slot is broken. So I checked the voltage from the protect circuit on the expanded battery. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/Syb8Xcntk9H4iKuTA , https://photos.app.goo.gl/UV2KtqK4eW2QB9Kv8 )
It also show me 4.17v.
Finally, I checked the battery voltage and it was ALSO 4.17v. ( https://photos.app.goo.gl/3WMqY3PsSWzAbJDv9 )
In conclusion, the "low battery issue" is not true. It seems the mainboard is not recognize the battery voltage properly. It can be both of the hardware or the software issue.
I saw the post that mentioned the secureboot option on the SPFT. ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-2/help/bricked-le-s3-x626-flashing-twrp-power-t3715937 )
It's for the mtk 6797 chipset, not 6797X, but maybe it's relate to our problem.
Please let me know if you have any comments or suggestions.
Thanks.
Probably motherboard is fried. I switchen the motherboard and it worked fine after. (I used a Umidigi Z Pro motherboard but tool the camera module from the regular "dead" umi Z)
So the umi Z battery worked afterwards
I don't know how people can buy something from that poor manufacturer, who has no support for anything that they sell.
After UMI-Z ,i definitively decided to boycott that "UMIDIGI" sh...t
