How hard is to unlock and flash LineageOS on Poco F1 ? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm currently looking for a budget smartphone and it looks like Poco F1 fits my needs and bill. I'm after a smartphone which can be easily unlocked and fully working LineageOS flashed onto. I had OnePlus 3 before and the whole process was smooth as butter. It also looks like Poco F1 have a lot of custom roms which is nice.
How difficult is to unlock it and flash a custom rom onto ?
Also, are there any revisions of this smartphone which can't be unlocked ?
Thanks :good:

Its pretty easy in my experience.
Unlocking - Register for unlocking on Xiaomi website-> wait 7-15 days -> Download Xiaomi Unlock Tool and Unlock
Installing Lineage OS - Flash TWRP, Flash Disable Force Encryption and then Flash Lineage OS
After Unlocking the phone, the whole process of installing lineage OS should take around 0:30 - 1 hour.

Is the unlock free or do I need to pay for it ?
I just don't understand why we need to register online for the code, it looks like it is some kind of DRM.
Is there any simillar device that you could recommend ? I haven't bought it yet so I'm still taking everything for consideration. I was initially going for Moto G7 but from what I heard is that unlocking this smartphone can be a lot of pain.

all Xiomi devices UNLOCKING is FREE but yes takes some time / patience as they approve your account to have unlocking rights!
but with pocof1 even if you have granted unlocking access on your mi account, you will have to wais for 72 hours (some says 1 week) before you can actually unlock... but if you have any other device in future, you can simply unlock it using you same mi account!
now the budget part!
i think you should consider Realme 5 pro also!
its also easy to unlock and has lineageOS
https://forum.xda-developers.com/realme-5-pro/development/rom-lineageos-16-0-t3985571
PROS of realme 5pro on Pocof1
2gb more ram in high end variant 8gb/128gb internal
splash resistant / little bigger battery,
support fastcharging
better camera(s)
bigger screen
smaller notch
DEDICATED CARD SLOT
one year newer than pocof1
CONS of realme 5pro on poco
- its on SD710 with NO liquid cooling / poco is on sd845 with liquid cooling
- corning gorilla 3 ,,, where poco is on 5
- as of now, fewer support on xda for realme 5pro / poco f1 has alot of development done (but this can change over time)
- screen protector book cover may be hard to find for realme 5pro / Poco fits in many huwaie/honor covers since design is similar, i cut honor7x cover little bit for camera and its working ! also iphone X screen protector fit 99.8% accurate on pocof1
now you decide <3

Regarding registration, its Xiaomi's policy and I don't think it has anything to do with DRM. Create registration using a throwaway email and delete the account once unlock is done.
Regarding your consideration of other phones, I will say that support and ease of modding a Poco is one of the best in its price range. If you want a phone with better modding experience than Poco, you will be paying a lot more.

Galaxy S6 to Poco F1 upgrade, worth it ?

Hello Guys,
Do you think is it worth it to upgrade my Galaxy S6 to a Poco F1 ?
I bought my Galaxy S6 about 3 years ago and other than its battery life and some scratches on the screen and dodgy USB port, I have no other complaints.
Galaxy S6 was a $800 buy at the time and Poco is like $300 now. so I am trading a flagship for a mid-range device.
And actually GS6 still beats Poco in some categories like screen, camera and build quality.
So what do you think ? should I wait another year or two ? or buy Poco F1 ?
Personally, yes. But its your choice, for $350 you are getting a good deal.
Lol thats exactly what i did, i had a galaxy s6 and upgrade to a poco a week ago, and **** yes its worth it, its such an amazing upgrade i really reccomend you doing that, its worth every penny

Dont you feel any downgrades on the screen department ? GS6 has a 576 ppi super amoled screen compared to 416 ppi LCD screen on Poco F1.

definitely a downgrade ,especially the black renders ,coming from a s6 edge plus , but weighting the price factor , you cant really complain , also it lack some feature like nfc and wireless charge ,which i doesnt use at all.

i upgraded from s7, yes the screen is not so good compared to super amoled and the build quality considering it's a budget phone, the camera is not that bad and personally in my opinion that poco camera is better than s6 maybe because the soc, and at some point is better than my s7. Moreover if you use google camera, it's slightly better.
But.. if you want better screen, camera and build quality. You might want to add some extra bucks for Mi8. It's around $380-$400 here in my country.

I'd say go for the mi8. Lovely phone with look and feel much more consistent with the galaxy line. Love my F1 but if amoled is your thing, there's no denying that the F1 doesn't have it
about four times better in battery? yes

Poco F1 Screen Bleeding Issue

I am planning to sell off my Nokia 7 plus and get a Poco F1. However, I have read a lot of complaints regarding screen bleeding issue.
Since you guys are already using the device, I would request you to kindly let me know how many of you have got a Poco F1 with screen bleeding issue.
Thank you!!
Their is screen bleeding. But it's hardly noticable

I think the 7 plus is better than poco, except the processor. Yes the screen bleeding is real, but it's not that noticeable.

I also reqd somewhere that chinese smartphone companies use cheap motherboard in order to save money. And that's why most of their smartphones start having issues after a few days/months. I don't know if it's true. But my experience with Xiaomi was good till 10 months before I started having ghost screen issue on my Mi A1 and forced to sell it off. That's why I was asking.

I don't know about that, but my friend still use Mi 3 and 1st gen Mi Pad. He said that he never had any problem. The only issue I have about poco is when I got no signal coverage, after that I have to turn on and turn off airplane mode for the internet connection to work again. I heard that it's been an issue for xiaomi device for a long time. Oh, and the camera has no OIS, hoping that Poco F2 will have it.

If you were to change...

Hi folks I just shattered the screen of my Redmi Note 3 SD version (RN3). I had this phone since early 2016 and though it's still working and I could prolly do a service job on it for $50 and extend its life to a year or so I feel sticking to this phone any further wouldn't be to my advantage.
So I'm in the market for a new phone and I would really love to hear your precious advise so I may get the best available option for my hard earned bucks.
My budget is around $350. I'm not a brand fan boi, I don't mind going for unknown brands if the build quality is there. B/C with a good build quality you can get the best out of your phone under XDA. So when I go for a smartphone the features I pay attention to are:
1-If the phone can handle recent games. If a phone can handle recent games odds are high that it will perform well in everyday life.
2-It must have a great community under XDA so that if the manufacturers aren't arsed to push updates, you can still get the best out of your phone by for e.g flashing a custom rom or the Google cam or flash the latest security patch and so on.
3-The camera specs should be good (not expecting pixel3 stuffs or p30 results), but should be able to take good shots when I go on road trips.
Having said that, phones that have caught my eye so far are the Huawei Y9(2019 version) and the Xiaomi Poco Phone F1. So what do you lads think!
The Huawei Y9 is out as per your stated requirements as they don't even allow bootloader unlocking. There might be unofficial methods. Poco F1 looks to be the best choice but I don't know if the initial issues like backlight bleeding, touch latency etc have been fixed. Redmi Note 7 Pro is another decent option but the price difference between its 6GB model and Poco F1 base variant is too little. Realme has opened up BL unlocking but the pace of development doesn't seem very encouraging. Otherwise the Realme 3 Pro appears to pack solid hardware. Dunno when the Poco F2 will be launched.

Wait for Mi A3 . not sure its launching date. it is android one device. Bootloader unlocking is very easy for android one phone.
Updates will given by google and not xiaomi. Also u will get 3 android updates. Spec will be same like rn7 pro.
Or buy rn7 pro. It has QC 4.0 charging and 4000mah battery.
From Kenzo, I used Tissot which is Mi A1 and now lavender which is Redmi Note 7.
Redmi Note 7 aka lavender as of now has very minimal development going on based on xda threads available. But the good thing is that it supports treble so gsi will provide you with a lot of custom rom and me myself is using a GSI now. Violet aka Note 7 Pro on the other hand has a better development than lavender. It has great camera too considering you are using gcam to full utilize the camera and also lavender's camera is Greta as well but not as good as violet. Lavender has Snapdragon 660 and violet has Snapdragon 675.

(suggestions)is it right to buy refurbrished poco f1 now?

I wanna buy refurbrished poco f1 atmost at 10-11k , is it good to buy now , will there be a development long term, or i should buy redmi note 8 ?
Any suggestions?
Poco is a developer friendly device. I think we'll get Android 11 roms as well. But you've an ugly notch and faulty touch screen( for some user ).

Advice Please! Is POCO F1 Armored Version 8GB 256GB good option for INR 16999/-?

POCO F1 Armored Version 8GB 256GB is available for INR 16999/- now.
I can get it for Rs. 12,299 with exchange of my old phone.
I am wondering if it's still a good phone in February 2020?
Would really appreciate your suggestion. Thanks!
Good budget phone. Becoz there is better soc now.
If you wait, in short time, Mi 10 Pro will be released.
I think that's great value (about €220 before trade in?)
Mi 10 pro will be expensive, but may lead to some further price reductions - I wouldn't have thought you'd get such a high spec F1 much cheaper though
Go for it
That's an amazing price. Just buy it

If you don't mind an okayish display and a big notch, this is the phone to get at this price point
Pros : Flagship SOC (crazy fast for EVERYTHING), rear fingerprint is a plus, fast charge, one of the most developer-supported devices on the earth, really good price point now, several gcam versions support, miui cam app via ANX cam.
Cons : Big-fat-ugly notch, average LCD hence color and brightness sub par, touch issues, slowly fading support due to latest xiaomi devices being handed to Poco F1 devs, sanity has almost stopped GCAM support.
Apart from these, plastic body is user-taste
I would say there are better options in this proce range because we hardly need crazy-fast speed during day-to-day usage, we look at the screen all the time so best screen is needed.
Hope this helps.
At this price, I advise you to buy it.

@rajeshkoshti A few phones with nice screens there. I see the way you're thinking (albeit each has one or more weaknesses, often the camera, and though the F1 isn't perfect on that score, it's not at all bad especially with a gcam to your taste)
Just to say though, to hit the same price point you'd have to look for a 1+ or Samsung flagship from more than one generation back - remember, the F1 itself is a budget flagship from nearly 18 months ago
Bear in mind also that the F1 in question is top of the F1 range
Have to say, I'd still go for the F1, but it's good to have options!

It will last surely for around 3-4 years . S845 and 8 gb ram is sufficient. Even s625 devices are okay for a normal user.
I have an Armoured edition poco, i advise you to go for normal version. You wont find a good case for armored one.
If you are using without a case go for armored edition. Its a beauty
Though if you have the armoured edition, you don't really need a case, surely?
In relation to updates, I wouldn't be so sure. Pocophone is a bit of an unknown quantity - Xiaomi (from my very limited experience) seem to be good about supporting their (huge) range of devices for a good few updates, but I've read concerns that the F1 may not get such longer-term love. However in a post-Treble world I'd naively hope developers will be able to keep it current for a few years yet
