How to prevent pixel slate from starting up when cover is opened - Chromebooks

I recently bought a Pixel Slate. For a while I hated it but actually I'm starting to like it very much. It seems to be very efficient and quick for the basic things that I do.
One thing that bugs me is that I have it in a folio keyboard case and whenever the case is opened – which might happen accidentally, the Slate starts up. Although there is a setting to prevent the Wi-Fi waking up when the computer is asleep, I can't find any setting which tells the thing to stay shut down even when the cover is opened.
In other words I'd like to be able to start it up simply by pressing the power button rather than it powering up because the cover has been lifted.
Is what I'm asking at all possible?

Phone issues: Unstable phone, or just an unstable rooting?

Hey all,
My Samsung Fascinate has an issue where the following have been happening (mostly in spurts, where it gets really bad);
There are what you could call "Phantom" button presses, I'll be doing something on it, surfing the web, reading something, and it'll just start acting up as if random buttons are being pressed. This'll go on for about 10-30 seconds, or until I use kill a bunch of background running apps. I originally thought it was due to having a screen protector over the hot keys, so I took that off the hot key area. that took care of it for a while, until I rooted my phone and started using custom ROMs (right now, I had a debloated ED01 ROM). After that, it began acting up again. I'm gonna try derooting it and doing the official updates to see if that helps. Any other directions for me to look in to fix this? Now it also has been eating up battery power like crazy (it almost dies when I was at work today, and I pretty much only use it as a time piece when there).
I also now have the problem where it wakes back up after I put it to sleep. If you just want to answer this in the thread already for this problem, then no problem, I'll follow that thread as well as this one.
Thanks for your help on this.
BW
EDIT: Another symptom for consideration: When the phone acts up, it'll also snap screenshots when I try to power it off. Usually I can stop this by killing most of the running apps or swiping my finger across the hotkey area..
Sounds like something is up with your digitizer (the part of the screen that registers touch/gestures). If you flash back to bone stock ED01 and it's still acting up, take it in and get it swapped/fixed.

I would say you need to do a real good cleaning of your screen. The screen protectors for the Fascinate were not designed to be placed over the capacative keys (hot keys) and the slight adhesive on the screen protector probably left a residue on the capacitive keys. The screenshot when pressing the power button is a big clue. Screenshots are taken when you hold down the back capacative key and press the power button. This problem has almost always been cleared up by thoroughly cleaning the capacitive (soft) keys.
Cool, thanks guys for the help. I'll try the cleaning thing first; I'm guessing that alcohol wipes would work just fine for this?
Also, on the screen cap thing, that does make sense considering the major thing that happens is my phone will act as if the back button is pressed (with it occasionally phantom pressing the home button and bringing up the task manager box). Would it maybe be a good idea to completely remove the screen protector (it's a ZAGG, ie: Heavy duty). I've talked to a couple of people who say it shouldn't be a huge necessity to have one on.
If this doesn't work, I'll go through and flash the stock ED01.
If anyone else has a possible answer/ solution, feel free to chime in, as I'm hoping to get an idea of all the possible reasons for this.
Thanks again.
Just fyi, you can disable the screen capture service by freezing it through a variety of apps (a lot of people use titanium backup pro).

How would I do that, I've looked through TiB and don't see an obvious setting that would take care of this.
First, you must have the pro version. Go to backup/restore tab at the top and find the screen capture service (it's in red text). Tap it and select freeze. This will disable, but not uninstall it, so you can restore it later. PM me if you need a screen shot.

Ok, got it. Now if I could get it to stop turning back on when I sleep it, it's been doing that a lot more of late. Going back to the capacitive keys issue; Is there a mod that can adjust the sensitivity of those keys, to make it so they don't get 'pressed' if theres any junk on them?

Touchscreen stops working / random presses

Recently my touchscreen has been acting up on me. Sometimes it will either lock up completely and ill just press power 2x to get it to work again. other times stuff will randomly start to open or if its on the home screen the phone will switch pages left and right at a very high rate of speed the screen almost looks like its flickering.
this just started yesterday, ive ran 2 antivirus apps on the phone and both say its clean so i doubt its a virus, im not sure if its hardware or software related, im thinking about doing a re-flash, but i have a feeling that might not fix the issue..
has anyone else encountered this problem? it can get annoying at times cause it almost stops me from using the phone completely.
Edit: I would also like to note, i thought it was the screen protector i had on, but i took it off and the screen is still acting up
I had this happen last night after I installed a screen protector I got from eBay (they were $4 for 10 with free shipping). I'm guessing it was something in the glue because as soon as I took it off, the phone went back to normal. It always seemed to be 'pressing' in the same spot because I was trying to send a text and it kept popping up with a menu about the contacts info. Also, when that would pop up, the capacitive buttons at the bottom (menu, home, back and search) wouldn't work so I had to lock the phone and unlock it to gain control.

Did any water get in the phone?
i have same problem and make me shock,
my motorola have anti glare screen guard
while iam eat chicken soup and play mini plan , i didnt notice if my finger are wet couz of soup, meanwhile i notice that at that time the touch screen are still good i can play the game, so i quickly try to clean it up using tissue , while i try clean up my phone keep pressing like crazy so i stop to clean it but it keep pressing like crazy, event i have already out from the game, i cannot stop it, so i must pull out the battery and put it back,
i think Atrix the touch screen are too unstable , compare with milestone milestone is better but it's less sensitive then atrix
it normal again after pull out the battery and i clean it up
I never got any water inside the phone, only on the screen protector when applying it to the screen as directed in the instructions for the skinomi screen protector.
the screen protector has been on the phone for 2 months no issues. its only now i see this happening.
i removed the screen protector to see the issue still there.
i have done a factory restore with no changes
i downgraded to 1.52 with the random tapping still going.
i think it might be hardware related.
im going to bring the phone to an AT&T store for a swap

power button

i just recieved my evo 3d today threw ups. and i noticed my power button is hard to press to turn the screen off... anyone else ran into this problem?
The button is built into the battery cover so remove it and place it back on.

make sure your battery door is completely on and snapped in the correct spots.
i have issues where either the power button is way too easy to press or way too hard. hopefully a new case will solve that.
I had a badly dysfunctional power switch with my first 3VO, I have since exchanged it for a new one.
And, no, in my case it was not the battery cover-power switch interface, it was the switch itself. I removed the cover and directly pressed it. Strange thing was, with mine, if I removed and replaced the battery, I could get one or two presses that registered, otherwise nothing -- no wake/sleep, no power off/on.
My wife and I both have Evo 3d's and her power button is way easier to push than mine. I switched the back covers between the phones and the problem followed the cover. I looked at both and the power button on my cover isn't molded correctly where it pushes on the phone. It is shorter so it sits further in the phone and doesn't work quite right. I called HTC and Sprint and there isn't a replacement cover available yet so they are going to switch out the phone.
I had a power button issue, where if I pushed the button, it would come up with the shutdown menu and no option just turn off the screen. Was in the process of going take it back for a replacement and found that when I removed the case to switch the memory card that my one was working as it should. The hardness went away and the option to turn off the screen came back. Strangest thing I seen since it truly seemed like a hardware issue.
i am going to check a few out in store and see if mine is like what you describe. To me its set pretty low and the button doesnt stick out very far.
Mine sticks out pretty far... isn't easy, or hard to press. I guess i got lucky.
Mine is really touchy, when I press it to lock the phone it sometimes goes to the shutdown popup. Sorry this post wasn't more helpful to the op, lol, just sharing.

Nook tablet remotely hacked?

My nook tablet was opening apps like Facebook and google search and typing unusual letters in the search and status boxes. Anyone seen anything like this? It honestly seemed like the device was being controlled remotely. I wasn't even touching the device and it was trying to type letters. My device has been rooted for about two weeks. I've not seen anything like this until tonight.
What was your battery charge? There are reports of the touchscreen acting weird when the battery is low.
yea, sounds more like a glitch in the touch screen. this happened on my phone. I would warranty it. Make sure you unroot first
It sounds like a defective unit... I have a Droid X that does the same thing; started happening about a month or two out of warranty. I've factory reset / SBF'd it a million times and it still happens, rooted or not.
For me, it seems to happen more frequently when the screen is dirty (but also happens when perfectly clean), and especially bad if I am wearing clothing that generates static electricity (fleece and other synthetics). Makes me wonder if the screen isn't grounded properly.. the phone has a lot more flex in the chasis than it should and sometimes flexing it in just the right way will make the problem stop.
Thanks
Thanks much for the replies. The battery was very low and I was sitting in a chair that could generate static electricity. Also noticed little bits of dog hair caught between the case and the screen. Not sure I'm going to return the unit just yet. It could have been a fluke. The only time I've seen a machine act like that is when someone controls a server at work remotely. It was really strange and seemed like a program was attempting to type on its own.
One other caveat is that I had installed Aurora on the tablet earlier in the night. It's a browser by Mozilla in development. It was running really sweet so I don't think that had anything to do with it. I did notice that the tablet was locking up on a couple pages and really sluggish for a bit while using the default browser. It then responded fine until the ghost took over.
One other question if anyone is still listening: if this happened to you did the keyboard come up? It didn't appear when the letters were being typed in my case.
I was thinking a cover and possibly a shield may be in order. I've got a year, so it if happens again even one time I'm going to return the unit- after unrooting of course.
My Nook Color will do this as well when it has been zapped by static electricity and when there are a bunch of finger prints all over the screen (usually when the finger oil gets built up around the edges of the screen it starts).
A good wipe down with a microfiber cloth (with the screen off) fixes it for me. Granted this is Nook Color and not my Nook Touch we're talking about, but I figure the behavior could be similar.
Good luck!

Weird, I could swear there was a thread about this, but now I can't find it for the life of me.
Anyway, it's a known issue- no need to panic and return the NT.
When the battery gets critically low, sometimes the NT will seem to have a mind of it's own and everything you describe starts happening. Apps open themselves, random text types itself, touchscreen completely unresponsive, etc.
I've seen exactly the same thing, and also at first wondered if it was a remote hack. Then I noticed the pattern that it's only during extreme power lows.
Just recharge to at least a minimal level and there's no problem.

Ah. I knew I posted there, but thread is strangely missing from my 'find all posts..' results.

Same thing happens to me but I only switch the screen off and on and then it goes away.
As has been mentioned, charge it, clean the screen, wash your hands. This should take care of the "autogibberish". As far as opening software... do you mean that it is opening foreground applications? Or that software will just load in the background? If the latter, this is NORMAL behavior of Android -- it will load software into memory so that it is instantly available when you try to run the software. If the former, probably related to the dirty screen.
I do NOT believe that this is a hardware defect. It rather is a side-effect of a LARGE touch surface. The bigger the touch surface, the more likely it is to be subject to random static charges.
Whoops didn't realize how this thread was!

[Q] black screen issue...

hey, everyone...
quick question to see if anyone has come across this particular issue.
i've been running dirty unicorns, toast kernel alex uses for that rom.
woke the phone up yesterday am after spending the night on the charger.
still plugged in, i checked the time.
pushed the power button again to put it back to sleep.
nothing...the screen stayed on, but frozen.
unplugged it from the charger, screen powered down.
haven't been able to get the screen back on.
strangely, the home, menu, back and search buttons do manage to light up, though.
oddly, enough...the phone still works normally.
i can guess as to what my security pattern is, hit the magnifying glass to power up google now and ask it questions.
i can also receive phone calls and swipe to take or hang up the call as usual.
once on the call, i can guess as to where the red bar is for hanging up.
phone works like normal...as long as i can guess as to where everything is.
also, when in lock screen mode i can side swipe to get to the camera and take pictures.
so, essentially, screen doesn't work...but, it still recognises and accepts touch input.
i just can't see a damn thing.
any idea?
took it to a sprint corp store and they changed the housing for me...for free.
changed the screen, top housing, etc.
they said it looks like it might be the board.
any ideas beyond that?
thanks again, everyone!
also, on a weird note...my battery is bulging in the middle.
i guess it's on the way out...with everything else.
I've had this phone for years and am having this issue too. Anyone have an idea?
yeah, it turns out that my screen's fried.
at least that's what the sprint tech told me.
pretty much everything works perfectly.
impeccably...i just can't see it.
i guess that's it for the phone unless i want to replace the screen.
they're rather inexpensive...depending on where you source it from.
