Just get my S10 U1 updated to Android 10 - OneUI 2.0 a few hours ago. Playing around with it and I start to notice something really weird, and annoying.
Everytime I turn on the camera app, and switch between modes in the Camera apps. I hear the "click click" sounds. And after paying close attention I found out that was a aperture shutter. It keeps changing from 2.4 to 1.5 and reset itself.
And if you swiping around the modes in the camera app you will continuously hear the main camera keeps doing this.
Am I the only one having this?
And if it was done by purpose, I'm afraid the the camera will break in a near future. AND why the hell they did this?
Pretty sure this is normal.
I have always heard the faint clicking, it's faint but it's always been there. I doubt they did anything software wise that's going to break the camera.

Did it behave the same with android 9?
OMG, I really didn't notice it. But last night, I was in a very quiet room and tried to play around with camera night mode, and I noticed this.
And since I notice this clicky sound, I start to hear it every time now, even in the normal and louder environment.... I guess once you notice this, it will become clearer ....
thank you!

I never noticed it until I read about it while running Pie. After that I started noticing it all the time. I was almost to the point of being able to ignore it until you brought it up again..... Thanks a lot. ?
I've always heard it. On an S9 too. It's very loud and noticeable, day one.

It's much louder on the S10+.
I don't notice it on my S9 unless it's too close to my ear, but on my cousin's S10+, I can hear it even if I'm holding it normally.
Anyways, it's a normal behaviour and I don't think it will break the camera.

Hardware failure..
Related
I've done a few google and XDA searches on this, and it appears that a few others have had a similar problem. Here is a YouTube video of someone with the same issue.
The phone is currently running ISCrewed 2.01 with Siyah 2.6.7. I am in the process of downloading the return to stock image from creepycrawl's thread to see if the issue is related to firmware/software. I just wanted to see if anyone else has run into this problem, and if so what solution, if any, worked for you.
A little bit about the problem, when the Camera app is opened - depending on the ambient lighting (I discovered the problem occurs more often in daylight or when the camera is pointed at a light source) - a vibration/humming starts from the rear facing camera. Depending on how I hold the phone or the strength of the ambient light, the humming gets worse or better. When I tap to focus the buzzing stops and will not return until the app is reopened, or the camera is switch to video and back or FFC and back. Additionally, when holding the camera up to a light source (I used a 60w bulb), there is banding in the light or the image rolls/vibrates.
Looks like a camera module can be purchased for $12-16 online, but then the question I have is whether there are different cameras for different revisions of the phone/firmware... and whether it is something I safely swap out myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if I can provide more information and I will update the thread after I return the phone to stock.
ps, where can I find the diag codes to locate the firmware versions of the hardware in the phone? The i9100 codes don't work, only found *#9090# and *#1234# so far which don't give me the camera version.
[EDIT]
I returned to stock using CreepyCrawl's method and the problem with camera still exists. So I am thinking that it is a hardware issue.
Here is a picture showing the light banding:

[SECOND EDIT]
Still interested in finding out if anyone else had this problem, or found a solution.... but I will most likely be getting a warranty replacement.
The only time my camera makes a sound is when it can't focus on a near object. It kinda buzzes or clicks, but only for about a second or so.

I've occasionally had the buzzing issue. Also with the led.
Images Are fine though.

Just an update, this problem was resolved through att warranty. They gave me a new reconditioned phone body. They said it was definitely mechanical, butt they personally had never seen it. Luckily it was bright enough outside to duplicate the issue.
I occasionally get that buzzing sound also. It only happens when I initially open the camera app until i touch the screen to focus. Then the buzzing stops. If I reopen the camera app it buzzes again. For me, it seems to occur more often in darker settings.
Is this a common problem or just a couple bad phones?

I am not 100% sure, but I do know that the lens moves around in the "barrel" or "eye" if you will. This is how it maintains focus. The mechanical part that forces the lens to move I believe is stuck... sometimes if you tap the camera the buzz will stop.
And I am no developer so take this with a grain of salt, but i remember that some flashlight mods or apps actually activate the camera and though it's not recording the camera will still attempt to maintain focus (due to being "on"). This would explain the buzzing when using the LED light outside of the camera app.
I don’t claim to know anything really... someone with more expertise feel free to lynch me
I can tell you that your problem might actually be the speaker. I only know because I had this EXACT issue, and I sent my phone to a samsung service center for warranty repair. They ended up replacing the speaker, and no more buzzing.
I am having the exact same problem.......... Just started today out in the bright light... The moment I tap the screen, it stops. I'm rooted and running a custom kernal but have played around with the phone for a year without problem. So this is mechanical??? Time to call AT&T???
Same Problem
I've had the same problem & i've found that if you shake the phone before you're about to take a photo/video it stops vibrating

Ok so one of the cool features I was excited about was the eyetracker feature. But I've haven't noticed it once work for me. They icon will flash on the status bar but it will still keep going black. doesn't matter how close the phone is or what kind of lighting is in the background. Anyone else?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using XDA
Was the front facing camera directly facing you when the icon appears? It needs to be looking right at your face and not angled slightly in any direction.
Doesn't seem to work at all for me. I dont believe it's because I wear contacts...

You say that, however the advertising in the UK shows a guy reading to his daughter from the phone in the dark, when his eyes close it shuts off the phone and states the phone only sleeps when you do.
I would call that false advertising if it in fact doesn't work in low or no light...

Tested properly today, multiple times, on my way through London whilst my girl drove. Bright sunny day, and it failed everytime. I tried opening my eyes WIDE, moving the phone nearer, farther... nothing.

did you try to put your phone around 20 - 30cm as mentioned in smartstay function? reading with the phone to close to our face also prevents it to capture whole face and follow our eyes movement.
surprised you're all complaining about this. It works almost everytime for me, even if im looking at the screen from a slight skew
I too have been disappointed in this feature. Doesn't seem to work at all.

I find this very weird to hear everyone having so much trouble with this, me and my friend have not had one drama and it's been awesome. All i did was juts make sure it was turned on in the motion settings and it works a treat!
It doesn't work on me as well
I've tested and seems to work about 70pc of time. It has definitely failed too..... But the little eye icon has shown too and it has kept the screen on.... I'd say failures have been a mix of bad/odd angle held and lighting...

I'm not talking about perfectly lit scenarios but more or less like the ones I've posted above. Do you guys leave yours at Auto , Intelligent Auto etc. Whatever tips and tricks you can share I'm sure will greatly benefit the community.
[I know there is a thread regarding the slow shutter and focus but that's not the point over here.]
Cheers !
Mine look as good if not better. I use AI most, normal and manual otherwise. Focus isn't slow for me, shutter speed regarding moving items in less than full blast light are and get blurry easy. Software fixes needed. My still shots are incredibly brilliant and accurate for a smartphone camera.

my two cents
I just took two pictures, one using normal and one using IA. the IA is FAR better for focus, speed of shot, etc. But there is some serious work that needs to be done on the software for this camera.

I personally feel on the stock camera app , the auto ISO is a little bit too sensitive, causing unnecessary noise. I usually set the ISO to 800 (the max it allows in manual control) and the shot turns out significantly better.
Using IA pictures are somewhat better ! . BTW can someone modify the camera to save the settings ? because it always starts on Normal mode !
I used Intelligent Auto for the pics of my Spigen Case, seems to have worked well.
These pics are actually lower quality than the ones on my computer because there was probably some compression done during uploading/
Does anyone know of a way to make the IA setting stick? Every time I leave the camera app I have to mess with settings to get it back. I've tried just hitting the home button and leaving the app open but it reverts. Annoying! !
I agree about always leaving it in hdr mode but I also can't find a way to set it to stick

I'm going to Paris in about a month and will take dslr camera as main photo device, but I will also take pictures with G2.
For various shots I find iA and night mode in low light fine, but what mode do you recommend for city sights? Is it sports in the day and night mode in low light or should I use iA and will be fine?

My wife's old iphone 4 seems to take way better low light pics and video (HAM2 camera is jittery when taking low-light video, not smooth at all) Are there any camera tweaks to be done? any settings to change? Thanks!
The B148 update supposedly helped a bit, but I haven't tested it yet. But if you've already updated, I'm afraid there's not much else to do.
Phones like ours are cheap for a reason, meaning they have to be "bad" somewhere. Cameras are never good on Androids of this price range.

Sure. I followed this link and scrolled to the bottom where it talks about rooted devices. You're basically just adding a small addendum to the camera sound file names in the system. Works for me, but who knows what the long-term effects will be. Do this at your own risk, I take no responsibility for your actions. Do not do this if it is illegal in your country, check your laws.
Some third-party camera apps will give you additional options, like higher ISO, that are not available in the stock Huawei camera. lgCamera has been mentioned in another thread here. I'm partial to OpenCamera. Paid options like A Better Camera provide additional modes. But even with all these options, I think the limiting factor for low-light photography with the HAM2 is focus. It becomes very uncertain in anything less than bright light.
Sweet, it works! You should make a thread for it, I reckon.

Will do.
I work sports leagues and tournaments and get a lot of teams asking me to take their picture. Sadly, it seems that ANY iPhone takes better pictures than anything I've dragged out there. In order of my use- Optimus V, Samsung S2, Note 2, and a Nokia 520; also a few small tablets, usually wrapped up on the beach so no pictures there.
Once I realized that the HAM2's camera software doesn't allow flash when in HDR mode, I began looking at other camera software on Google Play. I recently bought Open Camera. It has so many more options, including flash when in HDR mode and a night mode. Here are photos taken on a walk today taken in HDR mode with the phone software and Open Camera.

I just ordered the P9000, and ive been search around for several websites and see that the sound is horrible, camera app needs improvement, gps takes very long to detect and fingerprint works when it wants to.. Does it malfunction very easily? Ive also read that the HW stops working very fast in just a matter of months is this true? I hope its still worth it.. Also, sound seems that it can be improved with custom roms, does it also improve fingerprint scanner and camera?

Most of this is limitations with the HW/chipset afaik. But I haven't tried any custom roms.
I'd say it's a cheap phone that offers solid value. I actually like the P9000 a lot, but my expectations were never high. It does the job for me.

alright thanks, i bought this phone but theres just one more thing i would like to know? when receiving a call is the sound loud?
No, the sound while calling is pretty good and not to loud.
Three fingerprint scanner is working good if you use a case (so your finger is in the middle of the scanner) and you scan your finger multiple times while setting it up.
The only big downside is navigation. Is you use Google Maps the GPS is causing you to warp from street to street. Often some back alley due to bad GPS reception.

Which Display Typ is in your Phone ? The original LCM 13752A or a TDOBD0546 - Version
*#*#33#*#* - Single Test - RF Calibration - LCM ??
kaisims - Re your bent phone, why do you keep it in a pocket where this is GOING to happen or at least stress it beyond reasonable tolerance when sat on? Trouser and jacket pockets pockets are notorious for damaging phones and/or dropping them onto the floor. I would not blame the phone too much
