V30 Won't Charge, USB Power Supply Option Stuck to "power supply" - LG V30 Questions & Answers

Hey,
I've already posted this on Reddit, but am not getting any answers. It seems multiple people are having a similar issue.
Yesterday, when I grabbed my phone after not using it for a while, it was frozen/locked-up and wouldn't do anything. So, I had to hard reset it using volume down/ power button to get it to restart. Now when I plug my phone in it won't charge via wired or wireless. When I restart the phone from the power button it won't turn back on unless I do another hard reset and only then does it begin to charge...
Just noticed that Android System notification for "Tap to change USB options" is set to "Power Supply". When I open the settings to change it to "charging" and hit always, the change doesn't seem to save. It always shows "power supply"...
Here's the link to the full thread: ( I guess I'm not allowed to post links yet so here is the link after reddit.com)

First we've heard of it. Also you don't say which variant you have? Are you running a custom ROM? Are you running any "battery saver" apps? Have you installed any new apps recently?

* With phone completely turned off, does the battery charge when you plug into charger?
* With phone completely turned off, and then placed on wireless charging pad, does the phone then boot up and turn on by itself? (That's a feature of wireless charging, so curious if other things are broken, too.)
SUGGESTION: Try re-flashing stock image KDZ in Refurbish mode via Dev Patched LGUP. You are hard re-setting anyway, but this will re-install fresh foundation of stock firmware. I see in the Reddit link you posted someone else suggested that two days ago:

In your Reddit thread you mention "Verizon" Pie update, so that means you have VS996. Here on XDA, there are VS996 Oreo and Pie KDZ threads with links to download firmware and Dev Patched LGUP tool to install. I assume you want to keep Pie. Instructions are at bottom of post #2, but I am reposting instructions here. You still have to go there to download the KDZ you will flash. The Mega or Android File Hosts mirrors are probably the fastest to download VS996 30c KDZ. It's 3GB in size.

HOW TO INSTALL DEV PATCHED LGUP
0. UNINSTALL any prior LGUP version. Seriously. Go to Programs folder and delete the LGUP folder if you must.
1. DOWNLOAD THIS DUAL VERSION OF DEV PATCHED LGUP, made by @tecknight:
https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603845019
(Or use attached file from bottom of this post. Thanks to @tecknight! Please go here and click the THANK BUTTON!)
2. Extract LGUP_DualMode.zip to a folder on your PC.
3. Browse into the folder and launch LGUP_Store_Frame_Ver_1_14_3.msi.
Follow the prompts to complete the install.
4. In that folder, right click and select "Run as Administrator" on "SetDev.bat" to set LGUP to developer mode. READ THAT AGAIN.
5. Launch LGUP using the desktop shortcut. NOT from folder icon!
As mentioned before, use UPGRADE, REFURBISH or PARTITION DL modes. REFURBISH and Partition DL are probably best.

It's all fairly easy. Most people breeze right through this. But if you have any problems, go through this list:
Make sure you in download mode BEFORE opening the patched LGUP file.
This is at the top of the list as some people forget to do that. The remainder are in no particular order. If that doesn't work,
Try different USB port,
Try different USB cable,
Try different computer.
Reinstall LG mobile drivers on your PC.
Reinstall dev patched LGUP again.
Reboot the computer.
If you ask for help, that's the list of items we are going to give you anyway.

I will try this later.
When I booted the phone in safe mode it booted right up rather than shutting off completely like it does in normal reboot. It also will charge and wireless charge in safe mode.
Edit: It charged at first (Could unplug and plug back in multiple times), but will no longer charge in safe mode either.

I tried using the Verizon/LG Software Upgrade Assistant (LG) - Repair Assistant. That didn't seem to work either.

I went through the whole process (Refurbish) as you suggested and it still isn't charging....
From the looks of just what was going on, on the phone screen, the process from LGUP looked the same as the LG/Verizon fix

If you flashed full KDZ via Refurbish mode (which wipes EVERYTHING and reinstalls fresh new firmware) then you probably have a hardware problem.
____
Here's one more thing I would do. Just for sake of experiment. Flash KDZ in REFURBISH mode, but when it finishes, do NOT sign in. Don't restore any apps or settings for that install.
Skip name, skip setting up WiFi, etc. Accept all agreements but just get to the home screen with DEFAULT LG apps.
Plug in your phone.
If it charges (on that generic login), then it's some setting or some app on your Google Android profile that's causing the problem.
If it still won't charge, then you need another phone...

That's exactly what I did.... Guess I'm out of luck.
Just seemed like a random issue to pop-up out of nowhere. Maybe I'll try replacing the USB port at some point and use an old phone for now...
Thanks for the help anyway!
Edit: What's interesting is that during the set-up wizard, the phone will charge when it is unplugged/plugged in again and again. But once the wizard is complete (even just doing the generic login) it stops being able to charge...
I also don't understand why the USB settings are always set to power supply...
Update: Got a different phone now, but still messing with the V30. What's interesting is that when I turned it off with a full charge , the next day when I tried to boot it up the battery was a 0%. So the battery drains 100% with the phone off in one day and it is now completely bricked. Won't charge at all or respond to hard reset plugged in.

Can someone help with resolution
Hi, I use an LG v30+ India version, I am recently stuck with the same issue since couple of days. Can someone please help with the resolution of this issue.

Troubleshooting steps are already posted in this thread by ChazzMatt. If you continue to have charging problems after Refurbish flashing the ROM with LGUP and setting it up clean (without restoring any apps or connecting to WiFi or mobile data) then most likely you have defect hardware.

I have read through this whole thread, and am having a similar issue. It's a V40 through T-Mobile. I've had this phone for over a yr and it just decided to "permanently" put the notification at the top a few days ago. My charging port works just fine. I discovered it when I woke up to a 30% charge while it was on my wireless charger as it is every night. The notification has decided to pop up no matter what setting I choose, after a couple seconds of being gone. When plugged in, it shows the time left to charge, but doesn't say fast charging. Using a different plug shows a different time, so confirms the fast charging. Unplugging the charging cable spawns the notification that it's once again plugged in to charge another device. When in this mode, wireless charging won't work. And if set on the charger and changed at the drop-down to charging mode, It fights with the charger and will not charge and kicks the notification (in a constant loop). Also, a couple days ago it turned itself off 2x with an 80% charge in 5 min. That actually seemed to fix the issue, but I thought it needed a factory reset anyway, so did that today and I'm now back to square 1 with a glitch. I went through clearing the cache again in the Android system, hoping to replicate the issue being fixed on it's own (no matter how odd it was). So far, even plugging it into a pc and changing the connection type in the menu doesn't stick. Unplug the cable and it goes right back to glitchville. Also, I'm running Android 10 and it has been perfectly stable since the first day I set it up (seeing as certain features and themes weren't compatible from Android Pie on the update). As long as a PC is plugged into it, I can change the USB interface type. Plugged into the fast charger it came with, sometimes shows a bolt on the battery instead of a arrow, and if I'm lucky, It shows the synch symbol or fast charge (whichever it is). Beyond that, (and I have tried cleaning the port) it still acts like there is a cable plugged in and won't wireless charge. So, I'd hope you have a few more suggestions than the ones above. Thanks

Tried to flash JB rom, now stuck on boot logo.

Guys i really need your feedback and advice on this situation. Okay I was trying to install the Rom CNA. 3.5.0 (JB). But my battery was low (stupid me) and i install the ROM with no problem, but when the phone rebooted it went to the Motorola logo and i was stuck. I tried the volume down button which is the NV recovery but my phone turned off due the low battery i guess. And it seems my option could be fast boot but i don't know how to operate it. My question is that can i get out of this situation with a pre-charged battery, or a software from the internet. I really need your advice on this one?

Yes, you'll need a charged battery.
After you get one, enter the recovery and do all the necessary wipes (cache, dalvik, data, etc.) and reboot your phone
If it doesn't work, you may reapply the rom via recovery, avoid applying SBFs, as they may brick your phone.
Can't you just charge the battery while the phone is off?
I know I can on mine, but I'm not sure what's needed for that (like, do you need a bootable system?).

Any steps or guidelines you can give me to get fastboot to reboot my phone to normal ?
which rom did you flash last on your phone? Was it gingerbread or CM7 based or CM9 based?
Depending on your answer to that question, you can try a few things to restore your phone using fastboot.
If it was let's say some CM7 based rom, you can locate a stock CM7 kernel and download it. Extract the zip file to pull out the "boot.img" file and put it inside the same folder you're running fastboot.exe from.
Once that's done, reboot your phone into fastboot mode, and connect it to your PC via usb cable and real quick just type "fastboot devices", that command just shows you which devices it's currently connected to via the fastboot interface and you should see your phone listed with it's serial number showing which tells you that you can continue the procedure..
then do a wipe of any data which might interfere with the new kernel by typing "fastboot -w", don't worry, you won't lose any personal files like pictures or contacts..
after thats done then type out "fastboot flash boot boot.img" which will flash the new kernel onto your phone.. phone's not booting past the initial Dual-Core screen can sometimes be attributed to a bad flash of a rom, kernel not properly being written to the device in cases where the updater script couldn't mount a partition to extract the boot.img to before writing the raw data to your device. The updater-script which is just like a batch file, it just goes down line by line running commands and does not halt on errors to let the user know that something failed. So if something failed during the flash process and you didn't successfully flash some parts of the rom normally, it could still finish the installation and all you'll get it Installation Completed type message where you think it's all good but in reality some parts of the installation didn't complete.
Perhaps the rom didn't properly perform the necessary prep work of wiping cache and dalvik cache. Not exactly always an issue as it depends on the circumstances of what you're installing and what you had installed prior.
I've had a few roms here and there that put me in your shoes, the solutions I've always found to work was to first try something basic like wiping the cache of the device and reboot. If that didn't work, then this is where you could try flashing a new kernel.
Since you did the proper wipe of data, you can make sure the kernel gets installed properly as you isolate the installation from the entire process.
It takes 3-5 seconds anyway for fastboot to flash files anyway so theres no harm done anyway so long as you get the proper compatible files for your setup. Reboot the phone afterwards and give that a shot.
Unless you tried to flash a PDroid patch on your phone, which requires you to have a working rom installation to begin with from which you pull files to patch so you can flash them over the current installation, you should be able to boot.
If you still cannot boot, then reboot into recovery and open up the ADB interface in command prompt and run this command
Code:
adb logcat > "c:\logcat_dump.txt"
and just kick back for a few minutes while it dumps the entire log into the root of your drive in a text file named logcat_dump.txt... press the Windows symbal key(its between the CTRL & ALT buttons on the left side of the keyboard), while holding that press the letter R to bring up a run window box where you type in "%SystemDrive%\logcat_dump.txt" and hit enter... post the log here and you can get more feedback on where the issue is

My phone keeps turning off, it doesn't even reach the logo and it wouldn't even hold a charge...... .Its best i order a extended battery with an external charger?
No, no need to order a battery, there's nothing wrong with your current battery.
This was exactly the same way I first soft-bricked my first atrix long long ago. The battery would not charge no matter what I did and I could not flash anything onto the phone because the charge was too low and kept getting lower. It eventually fell to the point where it was like less than 5% charge left on the phone.
For some stupid reason, the Atrix does not recharge the battery when you do not have a proper working installation currently on the phone, like a corrupt install where something didn't do what it was supposed to do.
The catch is that once this happens and you have a corrupt install of whatever rom half-ass installed that doesn't boot, perhaps maybe even if the rom improperly wiped out the recovery so you can't boot into recovery, the phone will not recharge itself anymore. This is one MAJOR reason why you should always flash your phone with a FULL battery charge, not because it's cool to have a full battery icon on the statusbar, but when the fit hits the shan and things go wrong, you have some spare life left to be able to to try flashing something else to recovery your phone with before it drains too low.
You have 2 options at this point, you basically have to find a full charged up battery to use for about 10 minutes. Reason I say you have to find a battery and not just say find someone with an Atrix is because you can also use the battery from the Motorola Droid.
This was what I did once I finally found someone near by with a Droid, I borrowed their battery for 10 minutes to restore my phone and it worked like a charm.
Atrix battery model is BH6X and the Droid battery is BH5X which is the same size but has a weaker mAh. Long term I dont know how safe it is to continually use that battery but for something like restoring your phone, using that battery is perfectly ok unless you have a friend who has an Atrix also. Have him charge his battery up to full and then swap batteries with him so he can continue charging while being able to use his phone and you will have a full charge which buys you enough time to recover your phone before you drain the battery from flashing.
This was the exact reason I purchased this charger & battery just in case of just in case
Only thing is that this generic battery is 1800mAh 6.7Wh and the factory battery is 1880mAh 7.0/7.1 Wh but I never had any issues with the generic battery.
You can optionally get this nice Dual Dock Cradle + 3 batteries
Here's another option, 2000mAh battery with external charger
The way I solved my issue was to download a fresh copy of a 2.3.4 SBF file and a good copy of RSD Lite. Once I popped in the battery into my phone, I hooked it up to RSD Lite and just let it do it's job to restore everything back to square 1. Locked bootloader, not rooted, deodexed or zipaligned. But back then these things didn't matter as long as I was able to recover my phone and not have to pay $125 to send it to AT&T insurance dept. just to get a refurbished one in exchange.
I truly believe this is one situation which does earn the necessary required use of an SBF file to be flashed with RSD Lite. There's risks involved with flashing SBF files and so it's best to avoid them altogether but there are only a handful of certain situations which do call for their use such as recovering\restoring your device from an unusable state.
Definitely do some more reading about the matter and what your options are here. You're going to have to keep an eye out for the pros vs. the cons of using certain methods to recover a soft bricked phone. I'm sure last thing you want your phone to be is a hat weight right? lol, but do yourself a favor and read up more about this before you decide your course of action. Don't just start flashing anything that pops up that seems like it will work

You mean Droid X, right? The Motorola Droid use the BP6X, as the Motorola Milestone / Milestone 2, and it's really small when compared to the BH6X.
Yea thats what i meant, can't keep up with these incredible nexus droid htc photons prophilactic splendifures flux-capacitator names they went overboard with on naming android phones in the last 2 years. It's ridiculous when you have to think back to which model some phone was last year that you might've had but not sure because it looks like 10 other phones and the model names all sound like comic book super heros or something.
Specially a few years ago when I used to repair the hardware internally on iphones, blackberry & android smart phones. Sometimes I'd be so sure without a doubt in my mind about getting the right parts for phones and then later realize it's in the same family but a diff model #. Good thing with Android they atleast make parts to fit exactly or not fit at all. Like a safety net coupled with common sense, if it looks identical and does fit, then it'll work, otherwise its not compatible. Just like these 2 batteries, so regardless if it's Droid X or Droid DeathShovel Excalibur Pluto Carbide Titanium XIII Deluxe, the model number of the parts is the most important thing to look for

The spare charger and battery I bought actually never needed to be used for a situation like that again as after the first time it happens to you, you learn a lot of info on how to not land in the same spot again in the future. It is how ever useful if you like to flash roms a lot and sample different ones frequently. it's nice to have a battery in the phone you can use while having another one on charger to swap over once your current battery drains. This way you never need to be plugged into a charger via usb to recharge anymore.

I just stumbled upon this online, this is a must have for anybody with an atrix and it's only $20 free shipping HD motorola dock with remote control

[Q] Stuck in boot screen. Tried everything.

While flashing my phone, I apparently softbricked it and I haven't been able to enter download mode to flash back to stock.
Here, I list the chronological actions I took before it softbricked and all the ways I've found across this and many other forums to get into that mode:
1) On my 2.1 Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant, I downloaded z4 through my dropbox account and universally rooted the phone.
2) Downloaded ROM manager and installed CWM Recovery. Got ICS Euphoria through my dropbox account.
3) Booted into recovery. successfully created backup. wiped data/cache.
4) Began to flash new ROM. It loads up, I see the Team Passion ASCII logo, I believe, for about two seconds and then it reboots into the screen with Vibrant/Samsung in white text over a black background.
Methods I've tried and that have proven to fail me:
1) Battery out. SD out. SIM out. Hold BOTH volume buttons. Reinsert battery. Boots same screen. (no other response.)
2) Battery, SD and SIM out. Hold both volume buttons, home button, power button. Reinsert battery. Same screen. Release after black screen. Reboots same screen. (no other response.)
3) Battery, SD, and SIM out. Hold vol down or vol up + power. Reinsert battery. Boots same screen. (no other response.)
4) Battery, SD and SIM out. Hold both volume buttons. Plug in USB from PC. Reinsert battery. Boots same screen. (no other response.)
5) ODIN method. I've downloaded the PIT, PDA(tar file) files. Loaded up Odin3 and put them in their respective places in the UI.
Battery out. Hold both volume buttons. Plug in USB. Battery in. Boots same screen. (no other response.)
Again, I've scoured for answers across this and many others forums including youtube videos for hours and I'm at my wits end with no other options and nowhere left to turn.
I am usually a full on DIY guy, so I have never had to post anything before, anywhere and I'm usually pretty good at finding information if it's out there.
PLEASE.
Can somebody help me?
EDIT: after awhile of messing around, I managed to get it into the dashed circle loading symbol screen and eventually the download mode but after two times of successful download mode, turning it off and trying again, now I only get that dashed circle loading screen. My hands are in the air. I give up. I'm just going to order another with the $150 I don't have.

Hmmm...well, let's see. There is a lot to respond to, so I'll do my best to be as clear as possible...But, first and foremost, you need calm down and relax because from what you are describing, you don't seem to be in too bad of shape in regards to getting your phone up and running again.
The first thing I'd like to note is that it seems as though your first problem was trying to flash an ICS rom straight from 2.1. You really should have referred to Wood's awesome "How to update to ICS thread" which can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464423
You never want to jump right into tweaking with your very expensive toys without reading EVERYTHING humanly possible about the subject, because nobody wants a $200 paperweight. With that being said, let's now try and figure out how exactly to fix this problem. I'm not sure what you mean by "dashed circle loading symbol" but you did mention that you were able to get into download mode, which is good.
It looked like such:

right?
What key combination did you use to get into DL mode? (There are different ways). My point being, is that if you can get into DL mode, you should be okay...try and get there again and from there use the AIO toolbox to assist in your recovery: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509
So, to review...first get into DL mode again, next plug your device into your computer while in DL mode, make sure AIO toolbox is installed, and that you have the proper drivers installed, and while still in DL mode (as pictured above) and connected to your computer via usb cable, use AIO to flash back to stock. From there, follow Wood's ICS upgrading guide CAREFULLY to get yourself up and running an ICED out device.
Good luck.

Hey, thanks for the reply.
The thing is now, I can't seem to get it back into DL mode no matter what I do.
No manner of button combinations work. Taking out the battery, holding vol +/-, inserting battery and plugging USB up used to do it but now I get nothing. It seemed to work once or twice while in Odin, but during download mode, I still had no yellow COM5 connection and so I would close it, power off the phone and start over. After that second time, it just didn't show up anymore and now all that happens is what looks like a circle with dashes making up the circumference that would typically highlight in a cylindrical fashion while waiting for, say, a youtube video to load, but this symbol doesn't move. It's just frozen in place and the phone only reboots into that screen with the USB in if I power off/on.
thanks again for the reply. I did order a new phone, but I'd love to fix this one and use the other as a backup if possible.
EDIT: Also, I apologize for my rash behavior and bad attitude. I just lost a lot of sleep over this and I had a lot to do today. Haha. I'm sure you've all been there with these issues. Thanks for putting up with me, though.
Worst case scenario you can send it to www.mobiletechvideos.com . For $40 they will do a JTAG fix and unbrickable mod.
Just to be sure, do you have a stock front facing camera?

Update!
Success!
I managed to get it into DL mode again after buying a new USB cable and preparing to make the jig for it.
Now a new issue has come up.
I tried the one-click unbrick java app and have been getting the (phone-!-pc) icon and was prompted to install the USB drivers but they failed to install.
Any ideas?
Thanks so much for your help thus far.
USB debugging mode?
Okay, so after a few more tries and using different apps to install the drivers since Heimdall seems to think they 'are not properly installed', whatever that means, I've come to the point of using PDANet and once installing the drivers again, I was prompted to enter debug mode but.. how am I supposed to do that when all my phone can do is boot loop and enter download mode?
EDIT: After messing around some more, I found USBDeview which allows me to see all USB devices that are either connected or disconnected.
Samsung USB Composite Device and Samsung Mobile Modem both show up in the device manager and under USBDeview they list as connected.
The only thing Heimdall/OneClickUnbrick says after clicking 'unbrick' is "The USB drivers are not installed properly. Attempting to install." and then upon opening Zadig, selecting Samsung USB Composite Device and the Windows 32bit drivers for my Vista OS, the install fails.
Odin just doesn't recognize it at all. Nothing special.
Why aren't they recognizing my phone?
FINAL EDIT: I don't exactly know how I did it and over the painstaking processes that I've been through, I'm groggy, uncollected and somewhat irritable but I finally managed to flash the stock ROM back onto the phone and I am back in business. Thanks everyone for any and all of your help. It was much appreciated!
Good to hear that you are back from the brink. Believe me we have all been there.
Read my ICS install guide (linked above) and if you need any files, they should all be in the Repo thread in the Dev section. Above all, read, read and when you are ready, read just a bit more. That way you will have some foundation for when you are ready to flash and not be reading at the same time as doing.
As fundemental as this sounds, I always suggest it because it gives you a better sense of troubleshooting. I suggest you download some 2.2 ROMs and kernels and try going from 2.1 to 2.2 by using CWR update.zip method, and then Odin back to JFD (2.1) and try another. Do this a few times and you will inevitably run into some issues like the differences of key combos between Froyo and Gingerbread Bootloaders, differences between Voodoo and non-Voodoo kernels,... This will tremedously help when you do take the jump to ICS/JB and the very real possiblity of doing something wrong.
And FWIW, the way you could have gotten out of the predicament in your OP was to re-flash the ROM.zip over itself. 90% of the time that cures the initial flash bootloop on ICS ROMs.
Good luck and if you need anything search first (this device is almost 3 years old, so most problems have already happened/solved) and then ask.
That's awesome corpse! If you need anything don't hesitate to pm me or ask the community if you can't locate the answer.

[Q] L9 p769 stuck in S/W Upgrade Mode

Hello,
Well this is my first time posting here. And my first time rooting a phone, I've rooted tablets before.
I bought an Lg Optimus MS769 and that same day I rooted it. I used this tutorial to flash the v20f T Mobile ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2085344
After that my phone didn't look like Metro anymore my phone loaded like if it was a T Mobile one. I wanted to install CWM and a custom ROM but in some tutorials it said that I had to have unlocked bootloader which I didn't. After going through some tutorials somehow while using the R&D Test tool my phone got stuck in the S/W mode and would not go anywhere else. The only thing I was able to do was turn it on and off, no hard reset or anything. Now when I try to redo the tutorial I used to flash my phone it stops in step 11 when the phone update tool is updating. It just says that my phone is not connected, that I have to reconnect it and click restart to resume update.
Does anyone know how to get it unbricked and back to "normal"? I'ved tried fastboot and that seems to be the only thing I can do with my phone. But all it does is go to a black screen with the lg logo and it's inverted. After doing this it turned my S/W upgrade mode inverted too! I did noticed that the logo in the S/W upgrade mode was green and now when it got inverted it turned blue. Maybe this was my imagination. I don't understand fastboot though because I can't do anything there, I press all buttons but nothing happens. I try fastboot from this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2119090 and when I get to step 14 I don't know what they mean by installing the drivers again. When I try to it just says they are up to date.
So can someone tell me in detail what to do? That way I don't spend too much time trying to figure out things because I'm short in time with work and school. Thank you and here a few pics of what my phone looks like the places where it appears on my computer.

Fastboot your phone, select option 5.
Fastboot again , this time use #1
type
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Remove the battery, unlpug the usb cable, press the volume+ and connect the phone to the computer. You should see S/W upgrade mode, Place the battery back in your phone. Try flashing with R&D Test .

What do you mean by select option 5 and then #1? When I'm in fastboot I can't do anything, its just the screen, no options show and nothing happens when I i press any buttons. I tried to do what you said and this what it looked like. When I go back to R&D the same thing keeps happening. It says there's problems communicating my phone with the pc.
This is how I fastboot it and how I did the fastboot erase cache like you said

I used the new fastboot you said. Well this got my inverted s/w upgrade mode fixed. Now it is normal and the little s/w logo is back to green. When I try to do the phone update it stops once again at 15%. The first time I flashed the v20f I had this problem but instead of going straight to s/w mode to upgrade the phone I had to just connect the phone and put it in lg software mode. When I did this and ran the update it automatically set my phone in s/w upgrade mode. But since my screen is only stuck in s/w I guess that is why it is failing the update. When I do run the fastboot at the end it takes me to the "yours" folder. Is there any files i can download and put in the yours folder and run them through the fastboot to maybe get the phone unstuck in the s/w upgrade mode?
Well I feel a little more relieved and thanks for your help.

I put all those commands then tried to do it again. Now it stops right at the Analysis part saying that USB cable and my phone are not connected. Or something it gets all the way to the Update part and also stops at 15%. After I did those commands I went again to do the faboot option 5 then 1 and tried it again and the same thing keeps happening. I even tried doing option 7 because my phone came with jb already and still no luck. When it is updating the phone does shuts off("disconnects itself") and then turns itself back on. I don't know if that is normal.
On the R&D test tool. What should the work directory be? I changed it at one point, is it the same as where you have the kds file in? The first time I did this I had phone mode in emergency and then I see another video that says that phone with v20f should keep phone mode in DIAG.

In fastboot, did you choose option 5 to flash x-loader & uboot as Lelus said? Most user with JB need to do this before R&D tool can detect their phone in S/W update mode (and get pass 15%).
For DIAG mode in R&D tool that will work only when you can turn your phone on and put it in LG software mode.
Last option please try to use LG mobile support tool to recover your phone. And to do this you must remove some lines added for offline flash from hosts file because it need to download file from LG server.

Yup I even did it again to test it. In fastboot I pick option 5, then option 1 to erase cache and then when I run the R&D tool It passes through analysis and download just fine. When it reaches the update I notice that at 4-5% the phone turns itself off or disconnects itself and then it connects back and reaches all the way to 15% and after a little while being on 15% it says that there is no connection between my phone and computer, to reconnect it and press restart to resume update.
The Lg tool makes me choose the phone I got and I picked the metro pcs ms769 and downloads the drivers. I tried doing the tmobile p769 but they only have the t mobile p769bk and when I choose that one it says files not found when downloading. So i proceeded with the metro pcs ms769 once I connect my phone and its detected I go to options and upgrade recovery. It then automatically finds my IMEI number to start. Like on the R&D tool I get past analyzing pc settings and download even though the download takes about an hour. When I get to the update it stops around 4% after the time elapsed reached 3 and a half hours I just closed it.
When my phone first got stuck in S/W mode I could unplug it and it will still be there, even when I turned off the phone and took out the battery. After a while now it only turns on when it is plugged in into the computer, if it is unplugged nothing happens when I try to turn it on.

Hello akwlb,
First of all I will say just one thing that is don't lose hope, OK. Now listen to me carefully. I have also faced exactly same situation. I was using my LG L9 P765 with stock JB V20A ROM, Unlocked Boot loader and Touch CWM(Custom Recovery) installed on it. Apx. A month ago I got a notification from LG that a newer version of ROM is available to download. I got excited and downloaded that update and installed it, without thinking that I have installed Custom Recovery not the Stock one. So phone goes off to install updated and restarted, LG logo appears and then CWM screen. I thought that it’s a normal issue, so I turned phone off and started it back but again same thing happened. After that my phone never booted up. For next 10 Days I tried every know trick that I know about rooting and flashing. I searched the whole XDA Forum, Thousands of other forum & sites but no luck. I was facing worst situation than you, coz m having connection error on LG flash tool, no ADB working, no fast boot working. so at the end one day I was trying different tricks on l9,I flashed some "omap" drivers form LG Optimus G forum, I flashed those drivers successfully, the phone goes off and it never turned on after that, no any response to pc, no power on. So I ended up with a fully bricked L9. After all of this I have only one hope left and that was Warranty. When nothing left to do, I took my Phone to LG Service Centre. I told the LG Service Guy that "A few days ago I got an update notification, I updated the device, but it never booted up again". Service Guy took my phone and connected it to his computer, but there was no response. He tried several other tricks but L9 didn't responded any one of them. So the service guy issued me a Service Job Card saying, “Collect your phone after 10 Days, I have to change its mainboard". I asked him whether this will be done under warranty, he replied "YES". After 10 days I visited the LG Service Centre and collected my L9 in 100% working Condition, without paying any penny. So my advice to be take your device to Customer Care. Don’t worry about ROOT, even your device is rooted, may be LG guys not goanna repair it under warranty, but it is sure that those guys defiantly bring it back to normal. May be they charge for the repair of device, but it should not as high as you are not able to pay.
:victory:SO THIS WAS MY STORY HOW I GOT MY L9 BACK, EVEN AFTER TOTALLY BRICKING IT UP:victory:
THE ONLY THING GOT CHANGED IN MY L9 WAS IT'S IEMI No.

LG V30 not turning on/charging after Pie update (power+volume down turns it on)

I have just updated my LG V30+ via LG Bridge to 9.0. Update wasnt appearing through phone settings and just yesterday i decided to check LG Bridge if there is anything. It offered me Android 9.0 that was released back in september 2019. i think, i left it to update.
I have found a bunch of annoying things and glitches, like home button and the other 2 can only be white or a few bright colors, unless the theme is black itself, while pulling those buttons from the bottom upwards, it pulls the page thats open at the moment as well (on 8.0 it would just pull the buttons), its very annoying coz it opens a keyboard as well or anything else thats at the bottom of the page (as if i clicked on the field and not pulled from the bottom just to get buttons up)... A bunch of tiny things like these that can be overlooked... BUT, ever since the update i found out that phone doesnt want to charge and it doesnt turn on.
Let me explain how and what happens:
When u try to restart the phone and hold the power off, press restart button, it just turns off the phone, it doesnt start turning it on. Power on button doesnt turn it on either, it just feels dead. I tried holding power on and volume down, holding it 10 sec turned on the phone normally. After it turns on u can normally charge it, it reacts to charger properly and charges it. After i took it off charger and used it a bit, i put it back to charge and it didnt respond. Doesnt respond to wireless charger and PC either (long time ago while it was still on 8.0 it started showing some weird arrow on battery, apparently some water/charging safety, during that arrow i couldnt charge my phone, but only didnt work on fast charger, worked on PC, wireless and any other normal charger without fast/quick charge. This time arrow doesnt appear and i cant charge it anyhow, the only way is to restart it every time i want to charge it and repeat the process of force turning it on etc).
If anyone has any advice/has encountered this before, let me know. I will downgrade it to 8.0 if it will help me solve the problem, coz honestly, i am fine without new updates and i dont care about them. If i knew that 9.0 was so unstable i wouldnt have had updated it. I dont see a point for staying on 9.0 as most of the changes are annoying and unnecessary...

You could have updated manually any time these past few months, using Dev Patched LGUP. We have the full image KDZ here.
Do a factory reset, see if it fixes the issue.
If not re-install the 31a Pie KDZ in REFURBISH mode using Dev Patched LGUP. Go to the H930 PIE KDZ thread.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/development/h930-lg-v30-european-market-t3951898
If that still doesn't fix it, downgrade back to last Oreo KDZ. There's nothing about Pie that's better than last stable Oreo and several things that are worse.
Read post #2 of the H930 pie KDZ thread, it tells you how to downgrade to Oreo if you don't like Pie.

I have just factory resetted it and a new problem has arisen. After the phone locks, it freezes completely, only way is to restart it. Seems like it can be restarted and can be charged normally now, but again, when it freezes the only way to turn it off is through volume down + power off... Wondering what will happen if i factory reset it again. Gonna try it, after that only thing left will be either install Pie from here or put Oreo back just how u said. Thanks for help, will update u on my progress

Edit: Another reset didnt change anything. I have tried flashing the 22j version but it gives me this error: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/653910643589775382/686247035803926548/Error20LG.png
I have tried following the guide u provided but i am kinda getting lost there, i might have done something wrong
Edit No. 2: Downgrading to Oreo directly worked, i still need some time to test everything but i think its all good. So if i decide to go through with Android 9.0 i can come back whenever and upgrade it through ur guide? Thank you very much on assistance and ur time, sorry for bothering you!

Yes. You can update to H930 Pie 31a KDZ using the same Dev Patched LGUP you have now. I would recommend Refurbish mode, as that's a clean install. Sounds like something got corrupted with your previous "upgrade" installation.

When i followed the Oreo installation, a warning appeared saying something like "Your password is correct but ur files are corrupted, u need to do a factory reset..." even tho it was factory resetted 3 times before that... So i went though with it since i couldnt factory reset it through recovery mode (it didnt open it no matter how many times i tried) so i did it through normal settings. When i let it factory reset it did it as if it was through recovery mode.

No Play Store, no Factory Reset, can't unlock OEM. What is this thing?

My boss recently acquired an S9+ and wanted to factory reset it maker sure it was clean before usage. Being 'the tech guy' it's been handed over to me to sort out. However there's something very weird with this phone. There's no Play Store, for a start. It's not disabled in the App settings, it's just not there at all. I tried installing an APK of the latest version, it installs and acts like it's updating an existing app, but when I try and launch the program is says there isn't an app installed to perform that operation.
I decided to just wipe the thing and start from scratch, but there's no option anywhere to perform a factory reset. NOTHING. No options in the settings and nothing in recovery (photo added for proof).
So I've decided to adopt a scorched earth policy and root the thing and install a fresh vanilla ROM. Except I CAN'T because I can't enable OEM unlocking. I've gotten into Developer option no problem, and OEM unlocking is there. I toggle the switch, press enable, press the blue Delete All button and... nothing. Well, not quite. Very briefly a box will pop up that bottom saying Reset but will disappear immediately. I'm utterly stumped!
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Might be a rootkit... pre Android 9 versions are suspectable to ones that can infect more than the userdata partition. They need to be reflashed to eliminate it.

Thanks again for the reply. I've just reflashed the latest Android version for this model (currently on 10) which passed successfully according to ODIN, however it's still exactly the same with the phone. No Play Store, no factory reset, unable to enable OEM unlock.
I'm going to attempt to install Android 9 instead and see if that works.
Just a matter of curiosity can you post s screen shot of you download ( odin ) mode
if your on latest firmware you can't downgrade to ver 9

No
Download mode ( on your phone ) is the screen where you can flashed with odin.
No rush, but it can tell a bit more information.
Download Mode does not seem give a great deal of information. Is this the right screen?

It's the right screen
Did you use recovery to boot into download mode or did you use the power/vol down/bixby buttons when booting phone.
Also when you flashed the phone with stock firmware did you do a clean install. ie: used the csc file.
and did you boss say if it's a new or second hand phone.

It's very much second hand. And I think I've partially solved the problem.
I did a full reinstall using Odin and did a Nand wipe in the process. This finally made an actually full reset of the phone as it took me through the setup process. However, it automatically install a Knox profile that locks it into Retail Mode, so I guess this is an ex-display unit.
My new issue is getting out of Retail Mode. If I open the app for that it makes me choose which store the phone came from, then it downloads a 9GB file that sets up the display demo. I've found the passcode (5444) to get into the Retail Mode app, however once it begins working it completely disables the keyboard, so I can't go back into the app to disable it again. Its all very annoying.
*EDIT* Well, I got around that and disabled Retailed Mode.... and the original problems are still there. No Play Store, no Factory Reset options, can't unlock OEM.
I have now actually found that the Play Store is installed on the device, but it's disabled and pressing Enable does nothing. I'm totally stumped.
Here's the shot of the download mode screen you asked for. No idea if it will help now, but I'm willing to try anything.

I don' know to much about the retail mode except for the option in developer menu. I have never tried to turn it on/off.
Amonst other things from your download screen your OEM ( bootloader ) is on. Miight be because of the retail mode.
In regards to trying to enable play store maybe try using adb to enable it.
While l could be wrong i was iniatally thinking about some sort of MDM lock which will prevent you from doing stuff to your phone.

Yep. Still can't factory reset, but the Play Store is working as expected. Installed a few things and reloaded several times. Everything is still there.

@Trism you literally saved my life, I had the same issue and resolved throug adb. Still disapperared the reset functions.
I bought this motherboard in china as used but it's from UK, a the first start enrolled with knox.
I think it was a display unit, not a live demo unit but a real demo unit with special enrollment.
Thank you very much
