Hi,
I want to turn off LTE when I'm home since the 4G LTE speeds are really bad here. I've been searching online but all the solutions point to Mobile Network--> Network Mode settings but I only have 3 settings available in there and none is for 4G without LTE:
LTE/3G/2G
LTE/3G
2G Only
Is there another way to turn off LTE and connect to 4G? I used to have an old Galaxy S7 and it was possible to use just 4G.
Model Number: SM-G960U
Android Version:10
Thanks in advance

The only thing you can do is turn it to 2G only

Hi everyone, I'm new to AT&T and HTC. I'm confused on how the networks should switch.
The area I'm in doesn't have LTE yet so lets leave this out of this
I'm having a signal issue at work. Where I sit I get 3 sometimes 2 bars (-97 to -101dBM) on the 4G network. But data doesnt work. When I use the browser it say error connecting to network and I when I run speed test it either doesnt find a tower or just sits on ping test.
When I look at mobile network type it keeps flipping between HSDPA and HSPAP. I've never see the phone change to the edge or G network unless my battery is almost dead.
Does this sound right or could I have a messed up radio? It does work great when the signal is in the -70s.
Please help. Wondering if my phone is messed up. It is still stock, locked bootloader, unrooted at the moment.

Have you done simple troubleshooting like turn phone on airplane mode, or factory reset?

To turn off LTE, open dialer, type in "*#*#4636#*#*", then click "phone info", you will see "GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto" in the middle of the setting page. Switch to "WCDMA preferred" to use only 3G without LTE. You can also choose "GSM" to use only edge network.
Is there not an App or Widget that can toggle LTE and Edge networks?
hey guys, I dont know if there is a way to make my LG G2 to use LTE as a preffer network, it seems to switch to HSPA+ even though there is LTE connection. If I switch to LTE only via *#*#info#*#* I will get 2 bar of LTE but cant make phone calls, if I switch to LTE/WDCMA it will use LTE then wheen i make a call it would not switch back to LTE.

Pretty sure 4g is LTE from what I've read. You can also try dialing *#*#4636#*#* go into phone information, (make sure you turn WiFi off) change the settings to one with LTE. Sometimes you need to turn the radio off then on again and see if that helps. Sometimes you have to toggle between them a few times. When LTE catches you should reboot. Also unless you're in an LTE area it won't show

I went into that menu but i don't have a button or setting for LTE. I did however do the *#2263# and selected LTE and thatvseems ti work but its goes back to Edge even if there's LTE. Im on a stock Rom. I attached the screen shot of the menu you gave me..
Did you change/add an APN setting?

I just switched back over to TMO today. I flashed the UVLG3 modem as that seems to provide the best signal in my area. I usually don't get LTE at home, but when I return to work next week, I'll report back with my results.

Hi,
Does anyone know how to enter the secret menu to disable H+/HSPDA and force the phone to use 3G ONLY? I'm on the latest Russian official rom and the codes I've found online do not work anymore.
Anyone managed to do this? thanks.
Type *#*#4636#*#* in phone.apk and then select phone info and choose WCDMA only.
I think this worked on older roms and not on the latest 4.3 one. which firmware are you on?
The option to choose WCDMA or GSM only is in settings, more networks, mobile networks, network mode.

Sorry but this is not what I am looking for. I would like to force the phone to use 3G ONLY and NOT 4g/H+/Hspda.

H+/Hspda is part of 3G, what you want isn't possible. Is your phone the i9305?

No my phone is the I9300 - we really can't force 3g? On previous Samsung devices, we could, so Samsung disable this on the S3?

The i9300 doesn't have 4G.
The option is already in settings to do what you want, I don't know why you're making this so hard.

Ok let me explain correctly..When i choose Wcdma, then the phone switches to H and H+ constantly when in low reception places and connection is sometimes lost. That's why I am looking for 3g only since 3g signal is better where I live.

H & H+ are 3G, how many times does it need repeating.

They are definitely not the same thing and it seems you've never used the secret menus to switch from 4g to 3g..Ok lets stop here. I wanted to permanently change the NETWORK BAND to 2100 ONLY. It seems this is not possible on the S3,otherwise people would already have done it like in past samsung phones.

4G and 3G are different, but your phone doesn't have 4G anyway so that's irrelevant.

oh dear...you definitely didn't understand my main post and WHAT i was asking probably because you never tried this on your past Android phones...this thread can be closed now as any further conversations on the initial intent of this thread will not be constructive enough to find a solution.
Only AOSP Roms have this option (3G Only UMTS)
Sammy roms Only Have 2G and (3G y H+ automatic)

Just to let u know, you could fix the frequency in the secret menu as I did this many times, whereas I don't know the codes to get there as well, they were changed I suppose. In addition the i9300 only got up to H+, no 4G, if I am not wrong, H+ is 3.9G, H is 3.5G.

Try it. It worked on every HTC device I have ever had (no matter cyanognemod or stock rom) and also on my gs3 CM (never tested on touchwiz)

As mentioned, it seems only aosp has the option you're looking for.
Still, before such a drastic solution, have you tested different modem (even older ones)?
It can make a huge difference.
Hi guys,

That's odd, I setup my D6503 and it immediately showed LTE when I turned on LTE in the network settings: Wireless & Networks>More...>Mobile network settings>Network Mode

There isn't LTE in network settings. Only 4G. I was searching online and some people mention, LTE icon has gone after latest software update. Now it only shows 4G. I just wanted to make sure that information is right.
It depends on what region your firmware is from. You will still get the correct speeds.
UK phone from Clove, latest stock, on TMo. Shows 4G. Getting 4G/LTE speeds. Icon is irrelevant...
