Huawei P Smart FIG-LX1 - Is rooting possible? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, noob here, first time attempting flashing an android phone - I was involved a few years ago in flashing (Jailbreaking) iPhones so I kind of know the risks and what to expect etc
I'm having a bit of a chew trying to root my Huwaei P Smart FIG-LX1
I have DC unlocker primed and ready to go, however I believe I need to get the phone to Android 8.0.x before I can use that.
First of all I tried using eRecovery using Firmware Finder - Managed to get everything correct for that, and get my router DNS changed ready for the download - This fails, it seems to take ages to connect and then times out
With that out of the window I thought I would try via SD card, so I've downloaded what I think is the correct FW from androidhost.ru (FIG-LX1 8.0.0.132(C782)) and followed a couple of tutorials on here to get that on to the SD, basically like this...
Unpack the zip, create a folder on the freshly formatted SD Card (exFat) named 'dload' - Move the update.app to the root of the dload folder
Try installing from the phone - E.g system>about>update (doesn't exist on my phone) then by forcing using both volume buttons pressed, with the power button - This boots the EMUI and then I get a message saying 'update failed'
Also tried by going to the dialler and typing *#*#2846579#*#* and doing the update here - This reboots the phone I get a spinning wheel for a bit when the EMUI apears, then another 'software update failed' message
The phone is currently on build 9.1.0.160 and has been factory restored
So I'm a bit stuck now, is there any way I can get this phone downgraded to 8.0.x?
TIA

It should be possible to root the phone:

[Q] Failed update, cannot run applications

Before Christmas I tried to do a OTA update on my Prime, which has not been successful and I have not been able to use the Prime since.
It has previously been rooted and previously have always been successful in using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to retain root after updates. I've not unlocked the Prime.
Now when I try to boot it spends a while 'optimizing' the applications (as if it was the first time i've booted it since the update), and then once it is started, no apps will startup, all of them resulting in saying "unfortunately xyz has stopped"
A video of the problem: youtu.be/e1yfTtGiR78 (sorry can't post full link as am a new user).
I'd like to get it working again, possibly installing the Androwook ROM (or at the very least, just working on the stock rom). What steps do I need to do from where I am at the moment?
There are many threads about flashing roms, brick-fixing (some more up to date than others), but I'd just like a bit of advice about this problem and what I should do next (maybe some good links?). I haven’t gone near doing any flashing on the Prime, and it would be nice to seperate the things I could do, from the things I -should- do (I don't know where to start).
I believe as the Nvidida logo is on the bottom right this means I'm on the JB bootloader? Currently the settings menu shows I'm on android 4.1.1, but not sure if this is pre or post the failed update.
Thanks for any help,
Steve
A factory reset will fix you up. You'll lose your data
Hold vol down + power when booting to access the boatloader menu. Select wipe with vol down and use vol up to confirm.
Hi,
Thanks, I've done the reset, but I still seem to have the same problem.

I can't actually proceed throuh the inital set up, because it closes itself when it gets to the account setup page.
Any ideas?
I have resolved this.
I downloaded the latest firmware from the ASUS support website, extracted the zip file from within the downloaded zip file and renamed it to EP201_SDUPDATE.ZIP .
Put this on a microSD card (which I had formatted to FAT32), inserted it into the Prime, then booted into the bootloader menu.
Selected the RCK option, it did the update, and 10 minutes later it was up and running again.
From what I have read, it won't try to complete the update if it thinks you have already got that version installed already, but I guess it knew it hadn't successfully completed the update previously.
Glad it's working again.

[Q] [Fixed] MTK6589 - Flashtool readback killed BT/Wifi/GPS

Hello,
I've bought a new device - Evolveo StronPhone Q4, MTK6589 based phone. The stock ROM is basically vanilla Android 4.2.1. I've successfully rooted it using Framaroot.
Then I've created scatter file using MTK Droid Tools (all partitions that were formated were ext4).
Then I've decided to create a backup before I start playing with it, so I've tried backing up flash using SP Flash Tool (using Readback), it was running fine and downloaded approx. 20%, then crashed. I've tried that once or twice more times, always failed. Now after I plug it in, windows display "This device can perform faster" and FlashTool won't detect the device. If I connect it without battery with VolDn key pressed, FlashTool detects it and I get S_DL_GET_DRAM_SETTING_FAIL.
However, the phone boots fine, just GPS/Wifi/BT is not working. (No GPS icon appers, and I get errors like BT_open: WMT turn on BT fail in dmesg). Looks like an issue with kernel/HW issue.
Any ideas what could have gone wrong and how to fix it?
In the meantime, I've asked manufacturer for a stock FW image, but I'm not sure it helps...
Update: Okay, I have no clue what just happened. However I've unrooted, reverted everything I've modified on the phone so far so I'll be able to return it to manufacturer as "deffective"... And just for the curiosity connected it to the computer and tried downloading ROM one more time. And it succeeded - I'll upload the ROM once I get access to faster internet connection. I've removed the battery (phone was stuck in Preloader mode because I cancelled ongoing RAM test.), put it back and now everything works.
So, it looks like everything is fine now, however I'd love to know what happened, if you have any clue, please let me know!

I solved my issue by restoring Lollipop (v.39) with the tool from the wiko website and then performing the update again; the phone started again (at v.41) and I was able to download Marshmallow from the next system update.
Issue was probably caused by some configuration or application.
Still slowly downloading Marshmallow now, so cannot say anything about the next update, but I guess that will go well, since the phone is reset now.
Just to follow up: Marshmallow is working fine on my Wiko Fever, much better than Lollipop. Amazing update.
Instructions for others after having read some comments from other people experiencing issues with the upgrade:
- BACKUP all your data before upgrading from Lollipop to Marshmallow, as if you would buy a new phone; I luckily did, as I wanted to set the microSD from removable to internal
- remove the microSD and (after having a backup of all your data as per step above) format the card as FAT32 on your PC; better to have a clean MicroSD card for after the upgrade I think
- reboot the phone in recovery mode and do a: wipe cache+reset to factory settings
- once the phone is reset and started, proceed with upgrading to Marshmallow
- don't know if needed after the upgrade to do an additional wipe cache+factory settings reset, doesn't harm to do it though
- be unhappy for the hours lost in restoring the phone data + apps + reconfigure everything
- be happy of the improved phone software
Questions upon questions.
So, i got the notification for the update last week, and i saved it until today to install it. The file downloaded was just 7 mb, i had enough battery for the intallation of the update (30% recomended by the software), something got messed up and an error message with the dead android character appeared. I know i lost all my things contacts and sd card... tried to hard reset the damn thing and nothing. I already googled the problem and i found nothing similar to what i get, i'm stuck in the recovery screen and the phone doenst shut down, every time i force it, it just boots back up after 15 30 seconds. I got to be honest i tought it was just another update but aparently its a "new" operating androind system. They could have told me with a update log or something...

EMUI 9 update and eRecovery

Hello, I write from Italy, where I bought an Honor 9 in December 2017.
I never tampered with this phone: no root, nor flashing, nor whatever fancy trick, as in fact I'm not really exactly good with smartphones.
The night between the 20th and the 21st of April 2019, after being prompted by my phone to install the new EMUI 9 update [ STF-L09 9.0.1.162(C432E2R1P5) ], I accepted and let it install overnight (note that the update was downloaded, probably automatically, 1 or 2 days before, but I didn't accept the prompt to install it yet, because I needed my phone for a 15-hours long car trip, and so I figured I wouldn't risk it by installing the update just before my trip - LUCKILY apparently, because otherwise I would have had to stay with this eRecovery thing the whole day without a computer).
I woke up this morning (21st of April) to find it was on eRecovery, giving me the following choices:
(some message I don't remember, probably "Serious problems occurred when the device boot etc. etc.")
Download latest version and recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Reboot
Shutdown
I did the "Download latest version and recovery" option at first: after clicking it, it searches for WiFi around, and after writing my router password and connecting it to my router, it downloaded the 3941 MB (if I recall correctly) update; however, I left my phone downloading only to find it like this (I was away while it was downloading because I have a bit of a slow internet, so I don't exactly know what happens after it finishes downloading):
(some message I don't remember, probably "Serious problems occurred when the device boot etc. etc.")
Wipe data/factory reset
Shutdown
So I did "Shutdown" and I restarted the phone shortly after, and it restarted itself twice (one was my restart, but after that it restarted itself automatically), then always finishing on the eRecovery with 4 options like I wrote before. I did the "Download latest version and recovery" option again, and I had the same result.
What should I do? I really wish NOT to delete all my internal data, even because after reading some other threads I understood it might even be useless. Do you have any counsel?
Thanks in advance guys, I'm really going crazy and have no idea whatsoever about what to do, please help me!
P.S. I believe I found some other people with my same problem (or atleast similar) on the Huawei UK community site (I'm not allowed to post links yet as I just created this account).
The only way to recover this is download the update completely with pc in install to memory in dload folder after it finishes then boot to download mode and hopefully should work again it sounds like you have faulty update hope this helps
Try to update with HiSuite, if it doesn't work just grab your files with HiSuite and update using dload. If it still doesn't work, warranty claim.

Nokia 7.1 constantly restarting (possibly after the upgrade to Pie)

Hello!
My dad was using Nokia 7.1 for a while but recently he asked for help with his phone which is constanlty restarting... Looking into other threads, I can see it is kind of known problem, so I hope you can help me somehow. The phone is running now on 00WW_3_51F. He doesn't remember what was recently done with the phone but I guess he simply updated it do Android 9.0... When I power on the phone, it boots correctly but restarts after few seconds (sometimes it's longer, up to 1 minute).
- I have already reseted phone to factory default but problem remained.
- I have tried to boot it in safe mode but same problem occurred.
I managed to access Settings>Advanced>Updates and noticed that there is an update available (V3.54H) with size 1299.4 MB. When I started to download it, phone crashed...
I was able to download V3.54H OTA from another thread in this forum with size 119MB (pretty weird...) and I am wondering if there is any chance to update it manually from SD Card or Fastboot. Assuming there is V3.51F version installed, can I simply execute command fastboot update update.zip in fastboot? Will it install only this patch to exisiting OS or replace it?
Do you have any other ideas how to fix it?
Thanks!
