Bootloader Unlock? - Motorola Edge + (2020) Questions & Answers

Are we expecting the global version to have the ability to be bootloader unlocked? Looking at the recent Motorola devices, they seem that most can be unlocked and kernel sources are published.

My Motorola edge plus from Verizon actually has the toggle for bootloader unlocking. I am kind of shocked!

It's not unusual for Moto phones on Verizon to show but it doesn't mean it actually works.

Hey this is just a question. Has anybody tried Google there is a ton of information about unlocking the bootloader.. I'm reading some of the info now. I'm debating on getting this phone or the OnePlus 8 pro. I'm kinda stuck with Verizon right now that's why the 8 pro from OnePlus looked real good. But reading about edge + and getting the unlock code from motorola it looks good too.

Were you able to confirm that the toggle functions?

The toggle does function. But I haven't tried to unlock the bootloader. But if I toggle it on it does give me a warning about unlocking. I actually returned the phone as I was not satisfied with the camera. I have 2 grand kids and I found enough situations where the camera took pictures that were a little blurry that I didn't feel like I needed to keep the phone. I hated to do it, I really liked the phone, but the camera was a deal breaker.

I think that you just gave me hope in that if I decide to purchase one shortly, that the toggle will still be available to unlock the bootloader.
Question: Assuming that the toggle will still unlock the bootloader, I would not have a need for any fastboot mode command lines?

Hey Guy I just picked this device up straight from Verizon , it came today and I already checked off OEM UNLOCK. I wanted to even see if it depended on sim so...I am coming from an LG V60 and when I got the new phone I just simply activated with the sim it came with went straight to developer options to see if it was greyed out. It wasn't I checked it off and I went to the Motorola page and checked to see if my device could be unlocked which it could and I got my unique key and submitted it. It said I should be getting the email with the unlock key for Fastboot. However it doesn't look like there is factory images but I am willing to test stuff while I have a backup phone and also since I am in my return period.

Please keep me posted on whether the email with the fastboot commands holds true and are you looking for factory images for testing purposes or couldn't you just run with the device as-is until the images materialize?

I will keep posted, yes I wouldn't try anything until factory images are available. I wanted to see if it was really going to let me go through with requesting the lock... I thought the email would be fast but its been 30 min no email yet.

Unlocking the bootloader should not interfere with the overall operability of the device, e.g., text, calls, data, etc. Is there a reason as to why you are waiting for factory images before unlocking?

Wait..... are you still waiting for the code by email or did you receive the code and now waiting for a ROM to be developed?

Still waiting on code

Here's a magisk patched boot img.
Boot it with fastboot when you have unlocked the bootloader:
Code:
fastboot boot magisk_patched.img

Do I still need to obtain a copy of the stock boot/recovery image as required or do I simply flash the patched boot img you have supplied?

I read an article that the unlock code is obtained from the supplier within a maximum period of 24 business hours, although there are cases where this could take anywhere from one hour up to three business days. Other times, the code is provided in less than 15 minutes. It depends on the make and model of the phone and the original network provider. What - 3 days?

I don't have the phone myself, so I can't say for sure what works or not. But usually, when bootloader is unlocked, you can boot or flash a patched boot.img to obtain root.
I patched the boot.img from the rom dump supplied by @daillcyruz
You should start with the "fastboot boot" command i wrote, as that command won't modify anything permanently.
EDIT:
Any news on that unlock code from Motorola yet?

Thanks for supplying the patched img. I guess we'll have to wait on the response from @daillcyruz regarding receipt of the code.

I imagine you'll be waiting a long time but I may be surprised. Toggling a switch means nothing when it comes to Verizon.

[Q] Software update Photon 4G

After searching for an answer here, I noticed Sprint is saying that the 2.3.5 update is available. I know there was some issues with it "leaking" out after the soak test but has anyone acquired the file to manually update their photon? Ive not seen an sbf or even an update.zip, and both Sprint and Motorola say the update should be available for all. I've gone back to completely stock, and still no update. Sprint of course says its there, but neither anyone on the phone or at the stores can help me get it. I am comfortable enough doing it myself if I had the requisite files, but I don/t Is there anyone out there in photon land who might have the file I am searching for? Its PHOTON 4G_MR5 (4.5.1A-1_SUN-254_12.Sprint.en.US) (45.4.12.MB855.Sprint.en.US). If anyone has it or if this has been answered I apologize, but I have searched without success, and as usual both the carrier and manufacturer are useless.... I know what the update brings and no I don't care about the boot loader. I just want the update and the 1080p recording!!
Thank you!
If you have the file, please PM me, and let me know. Otherwise, I will check back and hopefully someone will have an answer for me. I am not going to post my email or anything, so please PM me about it!
If you go and upgrade to 2.3.5 you wont be able to unlock the bootloader anymore
Thanks but

IF you re-read my original question, I am NOT concerned with that, I simply want the file. Anyone else?
If the software update menu doesn't work for you, look into this. I haven't used this file, I don't know for sure but others have stated that they think that's the official one.
It would be a mistake on all counts.. Don't people realize that you can get 'everything' that the 2.3.5 update entails including 1080p without crippling your poor phone? Its like buying a Ferrari so you can drive 35mph around town..
And there's no need to go all CAPS LOCK on him, he was just trying to be informative.

Check the Imperium Website downloads section. You need to be on 198_6 prior to flashing.
Things to keep in mind before you flash it:
Every single fix or improvement has already been done by the devs here without the drawbacks
The devs here have already improved upon this release so custom ROM's are faster and offer more features
If you don't like=You have to buy a new phone
If it breaks something=You have to buy a new phone
If you change your mind=You have to buy a new phone
If you want GSM support in the US=You have to buy a new phone
YOU CANNOT DOWNGRADE, UNLOCK OR REVERT THE CHANGES MADE BY THIS UPDATE
the source code was just added earlier today to sourceforge.net check it out it might help...

Thank you all, I think lokifish made up my mind for me. And I do apologize about the caps, it was just a very unhelpful post. Not their fault I realize, but just wasnt helping my situation. I will look into the custom roms a little further I think.

Well I just got a Warranty replacement from my local Sprint store and my Photon states system version 45.3.6.MB855.Sprint.en.US and Android version 2.3.4. I don't have any system updates and I tried flashing the sbf to unlock the bootloader and it fails. I do believe the version I have won't allow me to unlock but if the Android version is suppose to be 2.3.5 on this system version I wonder how the hell I have 2.3.4. Anyone with an idea???

To unlock you want 2.3.4. What guide did you follow to attempt unlock?
I myself got a replacement photon less than a month ago and was able to succesfully unlock my bootloader. However I did struggle a bit. I will look for all the files I used and see if I can send you on the right path.

Cool! I would appreciate that! I'm fairly good at figuring things out but I'm still new to the photon stuff. I left mine stock after I got it then my girlfriend broke her phone so I didnt have it for a while. LOL! I finally have it back now. Now I like to learn more about development on different devices to contribute more to the community. Just taking it step by step now LOL!

DO NOT DOWNLOAD FROM THE PUDDING THREAD!!! PEOPLE HAVE PERMANENTLY LOCKED THEIR PHONE BY FLASHING THE WRONG FILE!!!
DOWNLOAD THE ROOT-UNLOCK-RELOCK PACK!!!
You have to follow the steps!!! If you are in USB debug then your are not in RSD mode which means you can't flash ANY SBF. Straight from the Compendium;
Start RSD Lite on your computer
Reboot phone into RSD mode: VOL down/Power. Use VOL down to scroll though options til you see "RSD" then VOL up to enable.
Connect phone to computer.
Flash derpunlock.sbf.
Close RSD Lite and disconnect phone.
Reboot phone into fastboot mode (same process as getting to RSD mode) and connect phone to computer
Double click "Command Prompt" shortcut in the "Unlock" folder.
In the Command Prompt window type moto-fastboot oem unlock
Look for the UNIQUE ID number and copy it.
Type moto-fastboot oem unlock YOUR_UNIQUE_ID_THAT_YOU_JUST_COPIED (fastboot should reply <bootloader> Device is now unlocked )

IMHO this update is totally not worth it. I (admittedly) totally screwed up and took this update. My phone is rooted but on stock. I hadn't had any other problems with other updates but I guess I was just playing with fire before and got lucky then. Well, 12 hours and a lot of yelling later, I have my phone back. I won't accept the update, not worth the headache again.
In all of my research to fix the phone, I found this YouTube video... (my new membership won't let me post links,). Anyway, search on YouTube for "How to unroot / unbrick the Motorola Photon 4G to stock Android" by QBKing77. The video should come right up. LOTS OF HELP! I'm a visual learner and like to see others run through the process first before I try so I know what to expect. Just make sure you have the latest files before you begin the whole process.
Lots of luck!
Agree that this update is not worth it in terms of functionality. I'm honestly not sure why Moto is bothering with it, but it speaks well of their commitment to support.
But, since (after endless ROM cooking & flashing in the the WinMo days), I've decided to stay stock Android, I did this during the soak test so that perhaps I can get a peak at stock ICS a bit early in the ICS soak.
BUT - anyone who likes custom ROMs needs to totally ignore 2.3.5 and its locked bootloader.
Wow.....
I have know a lot more

[SOLVED] B148 MT2-L03 Software

Need link to download the specific software specified in the title of this thread. Came across the one loaded on Google by another xda member but having difficulties downloading it. If you have it mirrored to another cloud service please provide me with the link. I am mostly gunning to get my hands on all of the .img files which come inside it so that I may review them via a hex editor and unlock my bootloader the sneaky way since Huawei refuses to reply back to my emails. Many thanks in advance.
Update: I was able to get my hands on the update.app file. So now will begin extraction and making my changes to hack the bootloader status on my device. If Huawei has responded back to you with your proper bootloader unlock code then you were fortunate. I myself have run out of patience with them and am now handling this on my own personal level.

Having trouble getting the bootloader unlock code? Try this:
Most of the issues are that emails sent outside of Shenzhen China business time during the week are not answered. They go into an email black hole. You'd have to send in the bootloader unlock request email really late here in the US or set up some way to send your email later automatically like I did with the Chrome extension Boomerang to get the code for my second HAM2. Currently sending in a request around 9pm EST to 4am EST Sunday - Thursday is the best time to email for the unlock code Sun-Thurs corresponds to Monday-Friday at Huawei in China.
I have emailed outside of those times and not gotten a response. After figuring out the time difference and setting up boomerang for an automated send later feature with my email the code arrived a couple hours after it was sent and I saw it when I woke up the next morning.

@arcadesdude, thanks for your input, but unfortunately that route has failed me as well. Been at it with these emails since late last year. My guess is that my emails are getting lost in middle of a bunch of other emails they may be receiving or I'm going to their spam mail which they probably ignore. Either case, all attempts have not been successful. I found the EFI image and boot image inside the update.app last night. So far so good as it looks like I can easily hack this update and finally get my bootloader unlocked so I may do what I need to do with it.

No, the bootloader code is still required. All I am going to do is modify the source via a hex editor so that I can input a code of my choosing and force it to accept that code and thus unlock my bootloader. That is very possible . Should of done this already but I wanted to give Huawei a chance - but they failed.

I didn't know you could do that. Is it essentially just flashing your modified bootloader partition to the phone using adb like we flash the recovery partition?

With a bootloader being locked you are presumably limited on what can and cannot be flashed. With that in mind should a modification be incorrectly done for a device with a locked bootloader then it would be safe to say that the flash would be denied and no harm done. Because I will be modifying the source to accept my personal code then this will not have any affect towards flashing. The device will even accept it. Then, when I enter my code and reboot, the device will simply say it is unlocked. The only catch to this though is that if I flash back to the original then the bootloader should technically relock itself. I will open a thread on this procedure down the road when I get time and even include my mods so others may compare it with the stock to see the differences.

Regarding the limitation, early I thought you are going to modify/repackage the UPDATE.APP, as that way, if (a big if) it works, ideally you can flash to any partition. (There is some thread in xda that discussion about read/repackage the huawei UPDATE.APP)
But as we discussed briefly long time back, this whole thing is really really risky, if the booting path to fastboot got damage, then pretty much the phone is hard bricked.
Probably if you stick with flash with fastboot, then the risk will be lesser but man, this is scary stuff..
Regarding the validation chain, I got info from following article:
http://www.newandroidbook.com/Articles/aboot.html
A few paragraph after the Figure One.
Let's see...
PS, maybe you can continue try some different email address and sent at correct time to Huawei for the code...
PS2, another thought, maybe inject a superSU to the UPDATE.APP system image will work? not sure how strict they are validating when flashing UPDATE.APP and/or when booting the system partition.

I won't be using the update.app parsay. Merely needed it so I can locate the images I want by viewing it with a hex editor and then extracting them so that I can solely focus on those images using a hex editor and once I make my patch(s) then I will use fastboot to flash those images to their respective partitions on the device. It really isn't that risky as long as you know what to look for. I won't be that guy that says "oops" in this case lol. So, I'm not worried about possibly bricking this device one bit .

1. How are you going to flash image via fastboot if your bootloader is locked?
2. You have to hack fastboot image to pass throuth unlock code verification without or with some random code. But even if you do so, you won't be able to flash fastboot image via fastboot even with unlocked bootloader.
I would'nt touch fastboot at all 'cause it's a high risk to get a hard brick.
I have found unlock code in some partition of my device, but I dunno was it there initially or was written there after unlocking. If the first case is and fastboot just compares entered code with saved one in device, then you can try to make update.app with injected su, as xordos offered, to be able to read this partition.
Injecting su into the update.app woukdnt work. The update.app has it's own crc and such. So to simply say, it won't work. You also answered your questions with remarks 1 and 2. One exception is that yes, you can flash the image. As for risks, it's only there if you mess something up - development typically is about taking risks . The fastboot image won't technically brick the device anyways. At best a soft brick may occur, but to be honest since "bricking" is up for discussion; bricking can occur simply by making a change to the build.prop file and not fixing it's permissions prior to rebooting. Unless you "hard" brick the device, then it can always be recovered.
You said the image or images can't be flashed with a locked bootloader, while yes is technically true, but understand that it isn't 100%, because you see, when your device recieves an update initially the devices bootloader is expected to be locked, right? Yet, magically enough the update goes through, the phone reboots, you either hate or love the new update. Something to think about before actually saying an image can't be flashed . Instead, I would have you ask yourself, "how?".

Can I root my Mate 10 pro (and how)

Am clueless after reading several threads about rooting this device. Some information are totally outdated. Some seem not apply to my case.
Here is where I am:
Huawei mate 10 pro
BLA-L29 8.0.0.150(C432patch01)
Developer options ON -> OEM unlocking ON (Allow the bootloader to be unlocked)So, where do I go from here? (am sorry if that really can be found already in this forum, I however did not find it ... maybe I'm just too stupid)
I love the perfect screen name.
Did you search, at least?? Look in the question and answer forum and in the general forum as well.
I'm sure that your answer is there in bold letters. But. If you don't have a bootloader unlock code, then you are out of luck, and TotallyClueless.

Just turning that option on doesn't unlock your bootloader. You have to use some commands using adb to actually unlock the bootloader. Search that for that thread, and you'll see the full listing of instructions. However, if you didn't request that code before Huawei took it awei, then you won't be able to do anything, as has been said in many a thread.

As nabril15 says, it's not possible on BLA-L29C432B146 or later. This is due to an updated bootloader which can't be downgraded.
So sadly there is no way for you to unlock, unless Huawei opens their unlock site again.

Mexxx... At one point some time ago, I wiped my data partition, so I don't know if it's encrypted or not; I assume that it is not. When I run twrp blanc, I see that it decrypts data and then I can its contents.
Do I want to preserve force encryption? Or should I set it to false?

You'd want it true.
If you have flashed firmware between the "some time ago" and now you are encrypted.
And removing encryption requires both wipe data AND edit fstab in /vendor/etc. fstab is replaced when you flash a new firmware and you will be encrypted again.
Also, if you're using TWRP by Pretoriano80 that's the reason why you can see data, it can decrypt.

DO NOT EVER TRY ROOT THIS PHONE OR EVEN BUY IT IF ROOTING IS YOUR AIM.
Huawei have ensured that they make it impossible to unlock the bootloader or to root. What will happen is you will need to buy a bootloader unlock code from Funky Huawei for 55 USD, when you brick your phone you will need to pay them a extra 18 USD for the unbricking tool. No wonder western countries are kicking this POS brand out of their countries. Huawei just wants to spy on us hence why they don't want us to tamper with their software.

Sorry Sam, I just saw this. If your intent is to root then save the $75. However, it still remains a powerful phone with an amazing battery life. The updates are far and few, but let's be honest, the phone still works fine. I'm not being petty-minded, I'm simply offering a point of view. I have mine rooted with the stock rom. I haven't been able to do a whole lot rooted other than to freeze a few apps using titanium backup. Was that worth the hassle it took to root it? I'm not sure. I have a fast and awesome phone, stock and rooted and not really doing much with the root.
Good luck and decide for yourself.

No problem. If you can get this phone for 75, go for it. Updates, schmupdates. Big deal. It is fast, the battery is ridiculous, the camera is very good, and it's a good phone. So we have to wait longer for Pie which is probably very similar. So what? 75 for any smartphone is a good deal. Face it

It depends on what build it comes with. If it's security patch June or later (in most cases) you won't be able to use DC to unlock it. There are other, much more expensive services available (10x the price of DC) to get unlock code if your build is too new.

[GUIDE] ROOT OnePlus 7T Pro McLaren 5G (T-Mobile version HD1925)

Hi. So I wanted to put together a little write-up on how to root the T-Mobile McLaren 5G variant, at least how I rooted mine, as there doesn't seem to be anything about this yet. I was actually able to root my device last night successfully, so I hope this guide helps others go through the process.
**WARNING** Unlocking your bootloader will render your phone unable to take OTA updates! This is a newly discovered problem that hopefully will be fixed soon. But currently, unlocking the bootloader will wipe your data and also a reserve.img needed for the OTA updates. Proceed with caution!
*I do not take ANY credit for this work. I am simply gathering data from various sources into one single reference guide*
*Credit is due to HolyChickenGuy and dstryrwiz mostly, as I gathered most of the data from these members. Also, topjohnwu of course for Magisk.*
So, anyhow, with this version of the OnePlus Pro 7T being carrier-locked, you must of course follow different procedures than a typical unlocked phone. And because OnePlus thinks they are special somehow, you also have to obtain an unlock code for the bootloader.
Steps that I followed:
1. Obtain SIM unlock status via T-Mobile. In order to do this, I simply just asked a T-Mobile employee via Twitter if they could provide me a permanent unlock. And without any issues, they were very kind to do so....even after day 2 of owning the phone. And on the EIP, it's not paid off.
2. After getting them to add your IMEI to the unlock list, go to the system settings --> WiFi & internet --> SIM & network section. There will be an option called "Network Unlock" at the very bottom under the 'Advanced' section. Click that and then go through the prompts. You want to choose "Permanent Unlock". Then, if T-Mobile made on their promise, it should ask to reboot...after which the 'OEM unlocking' option under the Developer Options will no longer be grayed out. Woohoo!
3. After obtaining successful SIM unlock, now you have to submit a form to OnePlus to obtain the actual unlock.bin file to get the bootloader unlocked, generated from a unique 64 character code you will obtain in the next step.
Ensure that USB Debugging is turned ON. In fact, make sure it's always on during this entire procedure, because it's required. Enter fastboot mode via holding the power and volume DOWN buttons during boot up. Or easiest way is to simply soft reboot with the "Advanced reboot" option enabled from the Developer Options. Once in fastboot mode, enter the following command to obtain this 64 character code...fastboot oem get_unlock_codeThis will spit out that 64 character code. Now go to this page, sign in, and fill out the form to submit for the .bin file.NOTE: This takes at LEAST 7 days to get the .bin file. For whatever reason...it must be an automated system. I tried contacting them twice, but they wouldn't budge and told me I had to wait. LOL. And it seriously took EXACTLY 7 days and like 12 minutes for the email to arrive.
4. So after you have the "key" to finally unlock this darn phone, enter fastboot mode again and enter the following commands...
fastboot flash cust-unlock "%path\to\unlock_code.bin%"fastboot oem unlock <<-- This step will ERASE everything on your phone. Most people know this, but I have to say it. Internal storage will be wiped too. :good:
Finally, the phone is unlocked. Now we can root it.
*I used various information from different forum postings...and some previous knowledge of course. Again, I don't take credit for any of this. I'm just following instructions.
5. Download the unofficial TWRP .img file for the OnePlus 7T Pro from here. To be honest, I am not even sure if using TWRP for this part is really necessary, but somehow I came to that conclusion. LOL. This process worked for me, so yeah. Anyhow, enter fastboot mode again and boot to TWRP (do NOT flash it!) by entering the following...
fastboot boot "%path\to\twrp-3.3.1-5-hotdog-unified-mauronofrio.img%"Now in TWRP, enter the following commands to extract your stock boot.img file...
adb shell dd if=/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/boot of=boot.imgadb pull /boot.imgThis will copy your boot.img file to wherever adb is running on your computer.
6. Take that boot.img file and copy it over to your internal SD on your phone. Boot your phone up as normal, and go grab Magisk Manager from Git here. Open up Magisk Manager, expand the "Advanced Settings" option, and check the "Preserve force encryption" and "Preserve AVB 2.0/dm-verity". Select the "Install" button from the regular Magisk option and choose "Select and Patch a File ". Find your boot.img file and Magisk Manager will created a patched .img file. Copy this new .img file from your phone over to your PC.
7. Enter fastboot mode again. Now just boot from this newly patched .img file by entering the following...
fastboot boot "%path\to\magisk_patched.img%"
8. Final step. And hopefully your phone boots up.
*If not, and you're stuck in a boot loop...you might need to make the A or B partition active. To do this, while back in fastboot mode, enter either command (most likely B)...
fastboot --set-active=afastboot --set-active=bAgain, hopefully the phone just booted up normally without having to do that. Now in your phone, open up Magisk Manager again and simply choose the same Install option, but instead select "Direct Install". Magisk will now flash that .img file, ultimately granting permanent root privileges.
Reboot and enjoy!!

Great! Yeah I wish. TWRP doesn't work yet even just booting it. You can't mount system and it won't decrypt. You can use it with a decrypted system, but I think it still won't mount the system partition, so there's really no point.

Yeah, like I stated before, I simply asked them via Twitter DM. No questions asked. I told her that I wanted to unlock my phone for rooting, etc...and she obliged without any issues. I don't know. Try again maybe. Or use the other method people have posted.
Edit: This is literally what I said...
"Hi. I just recently purchased the new OnePlus 7t McLaren phone this past weekend, and I am definitely loving it. However, I noticed that I am unable to unlock my device. This is always something I do, so I can run certain tasks from my phone. Is there anyway somebody could please send me a permanent unlock code?? I would very much appreciate it!!!"
What's crazy is the fact that the person I spoke with on Twitter said that she won't do it because I was honest about wanting it unlocked for rooting purposes.
"It's super important that we set the right expectations. To protect our customers, T-Mobile does not support rooting (or un-rooting) Android devices. We never advise customers to root a device for any reason. Once a device is rooted, it is treated as a 3rd Party Device, meaning we are unable to troubleshoot if there are issues later on - this would also cause the warranty on the device to be voided.
If the device meets the unlock requirements (found here: https://t.co/ypU2LH9DIX) we can definitely assist with unlocking it, however we do not advise/cannot assist with rooting the device. I hope that clears things up a bit, but please let me know if you have any other questions."
I guess you lucked out with the person that helped you out.
I've messaged the guy from the other thread in hopes of a response about being able to assist me.

As long as it's idiot-proof, I'm in. My main concern for this device at the moment is rescue methods. I'm hoping nothing should require more than reflashing stock boot if things go wrong. But here we are dealing with Magisk modules. If a module goes haywire and starts causing bootloops, is disabling the module in TWRP possible over adb if we can't decrypt the partitions? Would a factory reset using either TWRP or stock recovery be the only way out? Or do we just reflash stock boot?

You have to run the flash command using the .bin file first...then it will let you run fastboot oem unlock. They are separate commands. And yes, you could run the unlock command later. But I think you'd have to do the .bin command again when you're ready. I'm not sure to be honest.

UMX U693CL Assurant Wireless

So I know there are root tutorials and utilities for the UMX U673c and the UMX U683CL, but does anyone have a tutorial or a way to root the UMX U693CL? I already have dev console activated, usb debugging on, and oddly weird...under the OEM Unlock option, its greyed out and it states the bootloader is already unlocked. Should I believe that or could it just be still locked and reporting that its unlocked if it's a proprietary bootloader? Any help appreciated.
Just a single bump to see if anyone has any root solutions yet
Assurance?? Wireless
I'm pretty much in the same boat. And have you noticed whatever you look up on UMX os conveniently a 401 or some site doesn't exist message? I did find out that malware byte totally busted them on having government installed malware which they partially admitted to. Get malware premium and that helps with attitude this damn phone has.
I just got the u693cl phone. I have not even powered it up yet. Did you all find out which processor it has? I am assuming it is the msm8909 but I am not sure yet.

To root a phone's Android unlocking device's bootloader is NOT needed. You may use SuperSU ZIP to root phone's Android.
Unlocking bootloader is not. Needed?
That's a strategy I had not considered yet. I just read about using a tool called adbroot for temporary root access on the Nokia.
found this doc

If you figure out how to boot into fastboot please post here. Booting into fastboot via adb commands and boot locks up at boot logo. Booting with power + down volume and I get android lying on his back with a red triangle.
Booting to recovery mode works with instructions from this video
https://youtu.be/lRFNhl-E5WY
did anyone figure out how to successfully root this phone yet?
Thanks in advance.

How do we root it with supersu zip?
Just got this phone in the mail today. Haven't powered it on yet but I will be playing around with it tonight. I think it ships with the bootloader unlocked and will see if I can find a root method for it. If not, I'll be checking back here with everyone else.

I tried and failed but I am a new fish at this. To access the recovery menu boot while holding volume up and power. Realease power as soon a phone vibrates. soon you ei lsee the robot lying on hi back. Hold the up volume and briefly tap the power button. Now you can select reboot to bootloader. It will just sit there on Ultimate Mobile Experience logo and adb does not work. I am guessing there are additional key strokes needed while rebooting to bootloader but I do not know.

Well, I got my phone all set up and ready to go. Our bootloader is already unlocked from the factory and I found a way to install TWRP for this phone. When I get home tomorrow I will install TWRP and if that's working I'll start looking for the root method. I highly doubt it right now but it would be great if someone created a flashable zip file to root it. I'll have to look around and see if anyone has been working on it. I have a feeling Magisk might work. It would be great if we can somehow get this phone rooted and a custom recovery installed, I'm sure there's at least a few people waiting for it.

Way cool!!! If the bootloader is unlocked then we should be able to image the boot partition and feed it to magisk. Don't you think?
I am very curious to know the steps you took to get this far. If you feel like sharing.

Sure, all I did was confirm that the bootloader was unlocked by enabling developer options, going to bootloader unlock and confirming it was greyed out where it also said the bootloader was already unlocked, then I did a search for TWRP recovery for our device model and found that, which anyone can build if they know how as it's open source, and also found a root method. I basically just spent a lot of time searching and reading. I'm most definitely going to copy everything and back everything up before I do anything just to be safe.

Also, there's a video out with Instructions how to install TWRP for this device model.

pretty darn low end phone but 2gb means maybe it can run treble gsi roms
specs seem to be on http://specdevice.com/showspec.php?id=31ea-85b0-7221-d1bc032ad321
you can always try to run TWRP from the "fastboot boot twrp.img" but the problem is which TWRP image
Android version 9; 000811; SDK28
CPU 4 cores; Qualcomm Technologies, Inc QM215; Max: 1209.6 MHz; Min: 960.0 MHz
Display 854 x 480; DPI: 240; Evaluated Size: 4.1"

has anyone figured out how to get TWRP working? I had no luck with the link @iwearthebelt posted.
EDIT: I am unable to find the 'right' download button on that website. All of them just redirect to the same place. DMCA Takedown???
If anyone has found the link for the actual download let me know. Thanks
Bump
Hi guys,
I recently received this device as well. I would really like to see the device get rooted root access. The reason being is because they tried to tell me I cannot purchase an unlocked phone to use with assurance wireless which uses Virgin mobile. They said I am stuck using this device or buying one of their over priced low end phones. I would like to be able to use root to remove some pre-installed apps.
Did anyone figure out how to get twrp on this device? If we can get twrp on it then it will be easy to root. Just need to flash magisk through twrp and it should be rooted. If
