To root a phone it requires that you're allowed to unlock phone's bootloader. Not every phone will allow you this: whether you’re allowed to unlock your phone's bootloader depends on the manufacturer of your phone, the model you have, and even your carrier. A phone's bootloader ( always ) can get unlocked if in device's Android Settings->Developer options the options OEM Unlocking & USB debugging are present:

Knowing this, you can purchase the cheapest phone whatever brand/model you chose. Simply contact the seller.

[Q] Restore the original ROM for my Atrix.

Howdy,
I'm Canadian. I use a Bell Canada as my service provider. I have a Motorola Atrix 4G phone. I would like to restore the ROM back to the original BELL ROM that shipped with the phone. The reason for this is I can no longer receive updates from Bell to my phone. Each time the download/install will fail and then re-download itself. Destroys my data plan to say the least.
I original rooted and uninstalled some of the bloat app's that came with the phone (UNO, some racing game demo etc) without really knowing the difference between freezing and uninstalling. Admittedly this is my first Smart Phone. And I believe this is the cause of my problems.
So, if someone could tell me in layman's terms how to go about doing this that would be great. I've read and looked through a bunch of the other threads. But most of them have really bad documentation to go with what they give here. (e.g. Here's the boot loader go nuts)
I would much appreciate if someone could link or give me a step by step to do this or a point me in the right direction that would be great. I would also be willing to pay if you manage to get it going(PayPal).
I'd send it back to Bell but since this were played with I'm pretty sure the warranty is voided.
I understand that I need to root > unlock > unlock boot loader > flash ROM > reboot. But not sure how to go about that really.
Thanks in advance,
redudn
So your bootloader is locked or unlocked?
If its locked just download the Motorola update tool and update your phone that way.
(That's how I updated to GB from froyo)
The ota kept giving me that android with the exclamation mark. I was rooted with gingerbreak good luck.

[Q] Re-Locking Bootloader & Unrooting Question

Hi I got the Rezound for Christmas and immediately wanted to unlock and root it, until I found out my parents got some like extended warranty on it... I really want to unlock and root but since it will void the warranty, I want to make sure I can return to FULL stock if anything happens to go wrong with the phone. If anyone can give me a step by step guide on how to get back to full stock, your help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay thanks! Sorry, I'm new to this rooting business with these new phones. I came from an old 1st gen android.
Actually, you can't revert it to 100% stone stock because as soon as you unlock it, it technically voids the warranty.
Sure, you can lock it again but it will always say "relocked" or something like that so if you got a smart tech they can absolutely deny warranty if they want to.
FWIW - I have spoken to a Verizon tech supervisor on the phone and he informed me that simply unlocking the phone in no way voids to warranty as this is something HTC has allowed, he also said he doubts you will find an employee anywhere that even knows how to check it. He did say that if you have any ROM on your phone other than the OEM or it is rooted your warranty would be VOID.
SO if you go to return it just go back to stock and relock and DO NOT mention that you have done so.

A "newbie" question on Sim Unlocking

As a happy user use the x10 mini pro, my hand has been forced to upgrade to a newer phone - so the xperia mini pro is the obvious choice.
However in the UK it seems the only place still offering this phone is O2 - however I simply want to swap my existing Vodafone sim into this. (I'd be buying the phone on payg)
As I understand O2 sim locks their phones - so is there anyway, paid or otherwise, of sim-unlocking the phone?
I would only want to run "stock" but with root.

Perfect - so for 10 euro I can unlock it and just chuck my Voda sim in. :good:
That's still cheaper than buying from anywhere else/ebay already unlocked!

I think that unlock method (Test-Point method - which also unlocks the bootloader) only works until the model 12W14. This happens in the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman (WT19i)
How to find your model

Yup - looks like the 12W29 I've received can't be unlocked by wotanserver.
Ah well - I'll just send the phone back.
If I get the operator to SIM unlock it, would that unlock the bootloader, or would it still be locked?

No more official chance to unlock bootloader

I found this thread, it is related to the Honor10 but i don't hope it will be extended to all Huawei products

IT will extend. As I read that's the deal Huawei had to take to launch devices in the US. No more unlocking, rooting and so on. All pages will go down soon.

Damn. I really wanted the M5 with LTE. I have the M3 and the only thing I don't like about it is no LTE. I know that one of the models has all AT&T bands except for band 2, but in my area I've only seen band 2 except for a few instances of band 12 and it was only 2 bars.
Just saw that today. I was really disappointed
And there is an additional requirement for requesting unlock from Huawei:
2. 用户必须在申请解锁的设备上登录华为云帐号并使用超过两周;

That is not written in the English version. It means:
The device MUST log on to Huawei Cloud account for over 2 weeks.

I just started my Huawei Cloud account (I feel using China's service is not right and disabled them on my first run). Hope I cloud pass through their requirement within the last 60 days ?
Otherwise I must pay for unlock, which does not seems right to me
Got mine now in case it's needed at some point in the future.. Thanks for letting us know.
OK, I'm new to this concept. So if I ever want to unlock the bootloader, I need to get a code now before the service is discontinued? But that code will be good forever, for repeated unlockings if needed?
And in order to get that code, I need to use Huawei cloud service for two weeks?
@Obveron: Yes, yes and no. I have not used the cloud thingy.

Once the phone is paid off, sprint will give you an unlock code.
As far as root goes, the US versions of Samsung phones will not be rootable.
