Android 10 EU Version - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

When is Android 10 EU. I got last security patch - 5 march. As early as May 5, I didn’t even receive the April security update.
Sorry about my English, i'm talking with Google Translate D:

I think eu will get a stable android 10 update, after global users are done with bug reporting, and i think its not that far, current version is stable enough for daily use, just some bug remained.

The problem is that some guys are so weird , they want the best and bugless build. Ok i understand that xiaomi did a really bad work on mi a3 , they completely messed up but be down to earth and especially don't be so furius and angry. I have seen lot of post in the community and the people do like a child because they found one bug. Come on just work with it . Other people don't even have the chance to get the Android 10. So calm down and wait for the bug fix version( of course i don't talk to you specificantly i talk for the majority of the users)

agree with you, no company deliberately provide buggy software, its bad for their reputation and they know that (also we have to consider the whole Covid-19 and lock down situation, we never faced such situation before nor the company), yes we paid many for the device and expect a professional service, and if we don't get the service we have the right to talk about it and ask for the reason but we don't have to bash a company like that i mean if they cant be professional then you be professional.

I'm on EU versio and I've gotten android 10 today. I haven't installed it yet. Does someone know if it have some major bugs?

I've just received Android 10 Europe update.

Also received a notification. Having read all the horror stories about Android 10 on the A3 i'm too reluctant to download/install :|

All seems to work correctly. After restart phone looks the same
Programs, that I have disabled remains disabled. FOD works with screen fully off. WiFi scanning can be enabled in programmers options. Android Auto appeared. Pedometer works with similar delay as in Pie. GPS works, compass can be calibrated after reset, but we have to wait some days to check if it has the same calibration problems as in Pie. System updates from Google Play work, phone gets updates for March.
Some glitches:
- Play Store starts uncertifyied.
- Some problems with APN for Orange PL, but I think now default configuration for IPV6 works.
- Battery settings can't be open by clicking at battery icon in notification screen.
No idea about reliability, battery time, etc.

Received it today in Romania

Just got an update couple minutes ago, I'm in Vietnam.

I got android 10 too and april security patch.

I did the update , all seems to work fine , shutter speed is limited to 1/4. The overall system has a little bit of lag but i need to do a factory reset. The problem that i have is that i cannot make more apps fit in the display. Overall is a good update. As far as the colour of the dark theme , in the settings is this terrible green like black , but overall on the system is pure black

Screen mirroring now works, was damaged in Pie.
Netstat no more available.
Besides gestures, there is possibility to set 3 button navigation.

Omg shutter speed stills 1/4? I had hope they will fix this for the EU release... appearently they don't see it as a bug but a needed feature nerf.

Is working well the Hi Res audio in the update? I see in Poweramp that it makes a downsampling to 16 bits/48 khz and if you select Hi Res output yo get low level.
Thanks in advance.

tired abt Android 10:
battery drain
system lag
Chrome crash
waiting and waiting

Just got the update but i wont do it,
Thanks for reporting the bugs. Dosent worth the pain. Its enought we are lab rats for biological weapons.

My Google Play system update is on 1 November 2019 & when I try update there is error "failed to update, updates are temporarily unavailable try again later". It's like this for around 10 hours now. Any recommendations? Thanks

no fix on notification light, battery drain, sound very high and uncontrollable at some notifications
what exactly they fix in android 10?...nothing i say
ooh...yes we have dark mode now....hahaha
Xiaomi let us down very hard......i believe they must be put out of android one program.
Beware i was a "fanboy" for 3 years now. My Mi5 was the best phone i ever had
Searching for a better ROM. Any ideas?

For me it's fine.. no major bugs observed. Battery usage is same as before, AOD works mostly fine (though it was more stable in Android 9), notification LED blinks, nothing crashes, I do not notice any lags. Dark mode is nice, although not really usable outside, so I have a Tasker profile to switch it automatically.
My wife hasn't even noticed that she's on Android 10 (fully stock setup)..

Xperia Tablet S - 4.1.1- Observations

Hi folks,
Thought it would be best to start a new thread instead of clutter the release thread.
What do we make of the JellyBean upgrade for the Xperia Tablet S?
So far;
- Not received any random shuts downs, the device used to turn off over night.
- Screen flickering 'seems' to have been eradicated.
- Battery life has improved considerably when compared to a days usage on ICS yesterday.
- UI is indeed buttery smooth - no lag experience yet.
- Device wakes up instantly when the power button is pushed. Used to take a few seconds on ICS.
- Camera quality seems better for me. Images aren't blurred.
- Rendering issue with the default browser seems to have been fixed.
The tablet now seems to well rounded off. Perhaps if this was released earlier, they'd made a few more sales.
Overall, I'm pretty satisfied.
Things ive observed:
Positive:
- No shutdowns.
- No issues with video playback.
- Rendering in browser is indeed better.
- Battery life is better, 4.0.3 is known for battery ineffectiveness.
- Less overall delays, better transitions.
- Havent noticed screen flickering for now.
Negative:
- Wifi problem still persists, wifi still gets disconnected if the display is switched off. It then gets reconnected again, but its still annoying.
- Wifi still cant be turned on when you click on the settings bar in bottom right, instead of that, you need to enter in the settings menu first.
- Homescreen is still uncustomisable (you cant add or remove home screens)
- Overall, i cant see why it took Sony so long to release this tablet out, since most of the improvements are already Jelly Bean Stock related.
- AGAIN, THE BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED AND THE TABLET IS HARD TO ROOT

Yes, is the way it supposed to be by default.. You have to configure the wifi policy.. I never had any problems with the wifi.. and I still have ICS. :good:
btw!.. is the home launcher the same? the app drawer is transparent now? or is black again? Thanks! and sorry for my bad English!

This isnt the way its suppose to be, and it isnt like that on any other android device, including my Xperia Arc S and my friends Galaxy S3.
Normally, when you turn off the screen, the wifi is supposed to be on, so you still recieve notifications, but on XTS, it doesnt work, even if you set the wifi options to "Never turn off Wifi when turning off the display, even if the Wifi isnt being used".
Pros
No shutdowns so far
Stock browser is really fluid and support flash
Is all around more stable and fixed some graphics issues
Its jellybean, so we got the "new" api
Better multitasking
Cons
The 3d graphic performance has decreased a lot
The ui is a combination of sony, ics and jellybean and is not... clean
New graphic glitches
No major update feel, this is like ics with some things ported from jb...really mediocre
improvements
more respondsive faster then 4.0.3
5G performance wen't up 85%
no random shutdowns yet.
bluetooth headset interfearance with 5G not had so far think its fixed, can't confirm 2.4g yet.
bugs
google voice if saying set alarm in 10 hours it searches instead or sets alarm in 2 hours, or searched random stuff non related to what if asked it to do.
text got ported from xperia T which low resolution font some of ui elements got ported asswell.
if you look at the bar you see its bit pixelated even on big fonts.
UI is't butter smooth always
apps crash a lot especialy stock browser on sony america's own forum.
sony remotes don't fully save or only partly save or not save at all setup problem.
screen flickering is now a spark that sometimes occurs but less common.
missing stuff
jelly bean home launcher
jelly bean butter smooth animations.
jelly bean homescreen
jelly bean lock screen
jelly bean fonts icons
jelly bean camera app the one now is from ICS
In before get a full refund already, btw they did offer me one today i just told them i don't want one.
I'm not any better off with different brand due my curse anyway.
Oh, screen flickering has completely gone for me to.
You've basically covered everything there is about this update. It's definitely a lot more polished than ics ever was, which I am grateful for.

I'm not really sure if these wi-fi drops are a bug anymore, as this could simply be a 'deep-sleep' or battery saving function. I have a friend who's tab also has these drops, although I can't quite remember what it was.

some apps can prevent sleep in certain conditions are met

Blurred fonts?
If anything, all my fonts are a big improvement over ICS, sharp, crisp and certainly no blurring.
No WiFi issues here either.
Right..

I just tried setting a number of alarms and various commands with Google Voice and it worked flawlessly, do you think it might be your accent that it is having trouble with?
Font's are really clear on mine as well as SWF has reported, perhaps there is something wrong with your screen? Just had a look with a magnifying glass as well and doesn't seem to be any excessive anti-aliasing either? Alot of fonts are vector based, which can scale without quality degradation, I would be surprised it these were a bitmap font, but don't know for sure.
I agree with your points about the stock JB icons and homescreens, damn Sony and their branding across all devices! If only they could just leave JB as it is and pop their bloatware on.
Sounds like Sony have been pretty reasonable with you to offer you a full refund for the tablet, if you do decide to turn that down you really will have to stop complaining about it, as much as you want to, your voice just isn't going to speed up their updates and/or improve their quality for you. Just going to have to suck it and and live with it...glitches an' all.

it actualy often search it instead which makes me think its not just accent.
If i ask who's president of america it does work correctly.
I can set dutch voice recognition asswell inside google voice no problem but again it works like crap and even worse.
Maybe its my top denture that i'm having or my tmj dysorder which makes me speak little harder.
Anyway if read so far more people reporting issues with font, old font was more crispier and sharper in ics 4.0.3 release6b

Think you not realising some issues might be just per region also or certain range, maybe your lucky or maybe your just blind.
Maybe its my social disability and my autism, but as i understand you now you talk as if no one has issues and their no issues for anyone.
then again your quoting me on that which makes me believe you think their no issues at all and i'm just picky guy.
Anyway if not always been picky but if you buy lot products in a year and see they are all DOA death on arival or damaged on arival or death after a month or damaged after a month, you really start to get pissed off a lot.
Now fear is playing with me and i got replacement which has right side where buttons are not sealed off correctly.
Sony insisted to give full refund even after i told them i don't want to.
It was't untill i say'd i was talking with other people from sony about software bugs and passing on feedback through them to the devs that they given me the choice for replacement.
Anyway won't known whats gonna happen untill tomorow.
Anyway i can basically take peak inside since not sealed properly which made me panick that was't splash proofed either.
Also a close of port was molten ruber.
I see broken products as a curse that i wanna get rid off asap, i wanna buy products that are in perfect quality condition not semi quality or poor quality.
software or hardware related.
Even wen't through like 12 eye glasses in single year all different opticiens all either scratch coating not right or AR coating not working.
along with all other problems if had with even samsung corrupt schandal they pulled with me i developed lot stress and tmj dysorder.
Anyway every time i buy something their something wrong it drains my will to life.
These software issues like blurry text i can life with for the momment better then random shutdowns, but these are issues that should be adressed and fixed.
The biggest deal atm is missing jelly bean homescreen and features.
but i do realise they just fixed random shutdowns and felt it was improvement aka rushed out for just that reason, and that a few follow up updates will follow soon to slowly add missing stuff and fix current bugs.

Ok ok, I'm not getting into the pissing match again, we all know what happened last time.
But maybe have a think about your previous statement as it might actually be more relevant to you, not me. I have nice clear text and you don't - so who is blind? Maybe take a picture up close and in focus and post it and we could compare to see if your anti-aliasing is much worse than on other users, just a thought.
Over and out.
Keep the tone of the conversation civil, or I'll close the thread.

Pressing the power button to wake is still kinda slow for me but it's whatever, and Wi-Fi reconnects a lot faster when it comes back from sleep so I have no problem with it.
Sent from my LT28at using xda app-developers app
When pressing the power button it takes a while to wake up on mine too! When I enable WiFi I have to disable and re-enable it to connect to any of my saved networks most of the times! :/
Hmm, that's interesting as the device wakes up instantly and the WiFi reconnects immediately too!
Weird.
Xperia Tablet S
I received JB update for my device yesterday. Now i got some little bugs.
After update, i tried to charge the battery. At %90, lockcreen notification indicated full charge and red led on side of the device turned to green. Anyway I continued to charge and it could reach %100.
Another issue, yesterday night i used my device over 1 hour watching youtube and surfing the net without any problems. This morning i started to watch youtube, but in the middle of a video device lost wifi signal for a while and recovered again. Then it started to do the same thing frequently (like maybe 3 minutes intervals). I shut down the device completely ad restarted, now i'm observing with a long youtube video.
One more thing. Sometimes (but very rarely) i see a thin horizontal line on the screen. It looks like a noise.
Regards,
I noticed the battery percentage issue in ICS, but seeing as though my Xperia T also had it, I assumed it was some built in feature by Sony?
Power saving perhaps?
Also, since running JellyBean, I've seen the line you mentioned on 2 occasions. Did I read somewhere that some Tegra 3 devices experience it - seems rare though, or at least alot rarer than the screen flickering on ICS?

Don't upgrade to Nougat Guys....its too slow.

I yesterday updated my axon 7 to nougat....damn its too slow now.
Fingerprint is too slow,,even sometimes i have to use my password because it does'nt recognize my fingerprint.
Camera quality is also lowered as comparison to marshmallow.
UI is the same just what i noticed is that settings menu is minutely changed.
Overall speed of device is lowered also
Most disastrous problem is in whatsapp...photo sending is dammnnn tooo slow.
I agree and have same whatsapp problem. I'll go back Lineage or Stock Marshmallow.
I haven't had any of these issues. Are you running stock?

Yes...its stock
I'd try a factory reset if you're really unhappy. If it happens to me I'm going LOS.
I like Nougat better and don't find it any slower.... I do notice the animations are a bit slower, such as: it fades in when the fingerprint is used vs how it just popped on with Marshmallow.
Camera focuses faster and better on close-up objects, and low light seems slightly less grainy....The focus doesn't fluctuate as much either (normal light and low-light). The sound is louder and some slight visual tweaks that I like better. It just feels smoother, but not slower.
After using LoS for a day (couldn't stand the audio issue), I realize the quick-settings in the pull down are very similar, just skinned a little different.
LoS and AOKP did feel faster, but I think it was because the animations were snappier.
I've had no issues with Nougat B15 since receiving it about 10 days ago. Yes... I am in the BETA program at ZTE.
Battery issues no longer exist and I've had no problems with the fingerprint sensor ever.
Have you tried clearing the cache partition? That my help.
Complety stock here, B27 to B29 and now N (A2017U)
Sending a photo in whatsapp and the phone almost complety freeze
restore to factory state: same behaviour
At least do not disturb is working... for the rest, i am confortable with N
EDIT: No, phone really slow in some apps, i want to go to Lineaje OS, i am tired of this CRAP software
Yeah, I factory reset my phone after the N update. It's so freaking slow it's almost unusable... Fingerprint reader, which is the only way I unlock this phone, it's pretty much useless now.
That whatsapp problem is very annoying, I'm not sure if I can stay on Stock for too long
I updated yesterday. I like it so far.
I don't have any slow down like you mention.
The camera focus is now much faster and precise.
Only good things on my side so far.

Activate developer options in settings and turn your animation scale down to .5x, or even 0x. Then snap snap! Phone is super fast.
I dont use whatsapp so I cant comment on that but in regards to everything else mentioned, Im not having any of those problems at all. Camera is definitely better, battery is lasting longer so far, fingerprint is still the same (takes longer from a deep sleep but still fine), scrolling and swiping is still smooth. So far the upgrade has been fantastic. btw, completely stock here.
updated, completely stock and no problems for me either. now waiting for my daydream viewer to try it out
Working ok for me so far, bone stock from b29 to b15 nougat.. No issues and runs great.. I did notice that when I tell it to close all apps, it frees up only 1.5 ram instead of almost 2 in mm.. not sure if it's just nougat being more aggressive memory wise or what..
I have updated from B19 to N B15 and i like it so far. Battery is good probably the same as B15, Camera is better, WhatsApp is completely screwed, cant type anything after taking a picture. Just freezes. Tried cleaning data in WhatsApp and still no go. Dont want to factory reset so i wont even bother doing that since it hasn't helped anyone.
Beta testers, can you guy let ZTE know about the WhatsApp issues we're having?

Do not do a factory reset, it is pointless

btw how were people communicating during beta testing? I think that for the A2017G nougat beta test they are using a whatsapp group to communicate... so if their mean of communication was that screwed, I guess someone would have noticed so far.
I'm on marshmallow stock with a A2017G and I didn't install that much stuff nor apps running intensive background tasks but after some days without reboot, the phone is starting to be kinda slow and sluggish for no reason, the responsiveness is lacking (it's not an issue of transition duration) and I need to restart to get it back to normal. There is also the embedded browser, it's slow to load pages in general but when you open a little dozen of tabs, it becomes almost unusable.
Half solution for whatsapp problem
For those who have the problem with sending photos in whatsapp: after taking the image, turn off and turn on the screen, that bring things back to normal speed
That's the only problem I've had with Nougat, along with a bit of slowness on the notifications panel

Elephone S8 [Rom]-Eragon

So i got my s8 a few days ago (yay) and noticed some of its horrendous issues within an hour of usage, so i started looking around for fixes and stumbled upon Eragon (Rom) and have been attempting to get that on to my phone with no luck. I have little to no experience messing around with phones. I followed the guide per Skeleton1911 and can't even get the Vcom driver's working properly. Pretty frustrated and confused at this point and decided to reach out for help/advice. Or any possible alternatives.
What issues are you experiencing that you hope will be solved by this ROM?
I only ask because it might be a hardware issue and therefore a sign to return the phone for a replacement from your vendor while that's still an option.

4g connectivity seems to be pretty bad/unstable. Battery life is pretty meh. Most if not all of the issue with this phone is pretty much fixed by the Eragon rom hence why I'm trying so hard to get it installed.
the 4g connectivity along with the battery life a very lack luster, which are some of the fixes that come with Eragon.
OK, fair enough. I do understand battery life is improved under Eragon, and OS RAM usage is reduced.
I just read 'horrendous issues' and wondered what that meant exactly, as I've found the battery life on stock to be reasonably OK. The only 'horrendous' issues, in my experience, are the camera and the GPS, neither of which are changed or improved on Eragon. But we all have our personal measurements for such things.

I can't confirm battery improvement with eragon rom. After a few weeks I had a massive battery drain of about 15% per hour without any heavy usage. The phone was in my pocket with wifi and bluetooth active. I didn't install any new apps and I already I flashed cache and dalvik. The only thing that helped was getting back to stock. Now battery is back to normal and I don't experience any major differences in performance, multitasking or ram usage.
A good example of just how different people's experiences can be, depending on their usage patterns and which set of apps they have installed. Thanks for sharing your experience, Steve.

It seems a matter of luck if you get a full working s8 or not. Maybe there are different builds, depending on where ist was made.
I am using gps from the first day without any problems, no matter if on stock or eragon rom. My s8 just gets warm when playing games but not hot. I think the perfomance is good (no matter which rom) but I would have expected a much higher antutu score from a deca-core chipset and 4gb ram. The battery performance is not better or worse (on stock rom) compared to my earlier smartphones like the oneplus one. I expected the lack of support from the elephone company just as it is, so I am not disappopinted at this point.
I think it's also worth keeping in mind that people are more likely to post when something goes wrong than when something goes as expected, so folks with a defective item are more likely to post complaints than someone who's phone just works.
That being said, I do expect quality control at a third-tier device manufacturer will not be as good as at one of the major players.
And yeah, the big battery is just there to provide adequate battery life despite the huge screen. In my usage, even with the brightness turned down, the screen accounts for 75% of my battery usage on average.
It's a great screen for a cheap phone like this, but it is a trade-off. No such thing as a free lunch.
Finally! Some people are talking sense here and not just complaining about their devices.
For me, I think it's pointless to compare this phone with flagship devices. You can't just say that "on my one plus/galaxy..." because you paid better bucks for those so they got to be damn better!
I have not got any complaints on my device because as I have read on another post here, "You sound set your expectations".
When you bought this, you have a certain use case and if the phone fulfills that, then the phone has already served its purpose.
Please don't expect our units to be top notch as the price won't allow that.
What kind of 4G issue was resolved by this ROM?

Can you explain what kind of 4G issues it resolves
After doing some research I found out that the ROM will NOT fix network issues.

For what it is worth, from the Elephone forum today.

Did you know, that our biggest competitor, that charges 3-4x the price of our S8, just canceled their release of Android 8.0 for their newest device? Google the news Why? Because their update was rushed and released way to early, causing a lot of trouble to many users. Do you want that to happen? We don't. That's why our update will only be released when it's done and can deliver a flawless experience to ALL users of the S8. Therefore we kindly ask for your patience. It is true many of the big players have pulled or cancelled their Oreo updates in the last few weeks. Be nice if Ele would try another 7.x update with another attempt to fix the camera though.
I suspect that their dev team has its hands full trying to get everything they got wrong on 7.x right on 8. And I doubt they have the resources to have two teams working on S8 firmware development.
Just my edjumakated guess, mind you. ?

so it's normal thing that GPS do't work and camera makes meh photos?
Also, is there an option that phone screen will turn on for a while when I'm receiving a notification? I know there is something like that in android but I couldn't find it. Sorry It's my first android phone and I just feel lost
I did not say the GPS did not work. If your GPS does not work at all, you should return your phone to the shop where you bought it. It's defective.
What I did say is that the GPS isn't great, as is par for the course on Mediatek based phones. If you need great GPS, this is not the phone for you.
Spend more money and buy something better, maybe with a Qualcomm chipset. Or buy a used last-gen flagship phone with good GPS performance.
As for the camera, it's crappy. All the reviews I've seen have pointed out the focus hunting. It's sub par and mostly a problem with the software.
That being said, yes, sub par cameras on cheap Chinese third tier OEM phones do tend to be sub par in one way or another. This one's just notably bad at the moment. Maybe always, if they don't eventually release another firmware for it.
And if this is your first Android phone, I can understand the confusion. Especally if you're coming from fruit phones, where everything just works on pretty much all of them.
This is a terrible first phone for most people. This is a pretty bad device for a novice, it's more of a hobbyist phone. But XDA is a place for that kind of crowd, so my comments were framed accordingly.
I really like it, but I knew what I was buying. I don't use the camera and only make occasional use of the GPS. And I make heavy use of the screen for watching videos and I am not a fan of 18:9. The S8 is a big win for me there.
You probably would have been better served, in this price range, by a Motorola phone, to be honest. If you're still within your exchange window, I would recommend swapping it for something more mainstream.
Best of luck!

Install this and the screen will wake for notifications. You can also disable individual apps, like I did with Spotify, to prevent the screen from waking when listening to music on my Mac.

I'm not even from apple family. I'm one of old guard of Windows phone, and everyday I'm more and more surprised that android won this competition.
I have no chance for fully refund, since I already own it few months, but I see I need to contact a seller. But I think they'll reject it because I dropped it once, and I have beautiful spider web at back -.- (It's not very sturdy). I think I need to revive my lumia for gps usage.
New to elephone s8 but not new to Chinese smart phones. I was hoping this ROM fixed some issues but hasn't thus far. Phone constantly drops signal to point where i can't receive or make calls. Still trying to figure out if that is due to phone not support on my network or not. Which is odd cause at times phone is fine, flying speed full coverage others its the complete opposite. One other bug I was hoping it fixed was screen being unresponsive. Like i try to swipe up to unlock or use fingerprint but it just vibrates to acknowledge I touched it and does nothing. I am looking for work around before i get fed up and sell it or something. I really love the feel of phone physically and how software works when its working.

Post Android 11 issue

After updating to Android 11 I've noticed my device seems to heat up all the time like something is working in the background. I did a FDR and setup as a new device. Even after the reset, the device seems to heat up still. Any suggestions on what to try?
Look at the attachments it's weird one says 2hrs 20 mins screen in time and the other says 4hrs 26 mins.

Well, hopefully they release a supplemental update to address the issue. I love Android 11 otherwise. Does your phone have a random glitch with messenger or any app where you can open photos to attach or something and have to close the app then reopen and it works?

I have not had that issue yet. It is laggy. There is also an "out of focus/blur" screen when it transitions from screen to screen, or should I say, app to app. It appears intentional, like a transition between scenes in a movie, but there is no point to it. The phone used to just switch screens. Now there is a transitional screen. Like the "red loading bar" of old.
I am just very disappointed with LG. and the V series. I have had most of them starting with the V10.
Sometimes I long for the old times when if you did not like the OS, you rolled back to an older version or flashed someone else's ROM onto your phone.

How about no! Lol. I have a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G there's a reason it not my daily. Samsung still needs a lot to mature it's a huge improvement but still leaking key Android features. LG isn't perfect but it keeps the great core Android features i.e. Seemless updates, more support for Google built in features and etc.

Which was why I went to LG a few years back.
Still, this is a major problem. My phone feels like a hot potato in my pocket and I am sure I will have to charge it in 5 or 6 hours.

I can agree, hardware wise not entirely software. One has good things about software and the other has good things.
Anyone else having system ui crashes whenever they pull down the notification shade? I guess been a bug on several Android 11 phones: OnePlus, Pixel, Samsung
I reached out to LG, they said to do a FDR (factory data reset) and if that did not resolve the issues to send the phone in for repair (since I am still under warrenty).
I'm on AT&T and updated to Android 11 earlier this week. It resulted in a black screen soft-brick. I could still see the touches (from dev mode) where fingers tapped the screen. And if I held down the Power button, I'd see the typical Power Down / Restart / Etc. options, and tapping on them would generate the appropriate responses. But in all other instances, it was just a black screen. I figured my HEAVY de-bloating of Android 10 when I first got the phone caused something to break.
So I went ahead and did a full factory restore using recovery/safe mode and set it up as a new phone, and haven't had any serious issues since. I went ahead and got almost everything (minus Fluid Navigation Gestures, RIP) working the way I wanted, and embarked on another HEAVY de-bloating process. Seems like I took things too far, because, upon my next reboot, I was in the exact same black screen soft-brick state I mentioned above.
Another factory reset. Another session of restoring my apps, launcher, settings, and customizations. This time, I just used Package Disabler Pro for LG from the Google Play Store to perform some more restrained bloatware disabling, and everything's been pretty great. For Android 10 and the first attempt at de-bloating Android 11, I was using ADB commands to "uninstall" dozens upon dozens of system apps. Battery life is not quite as good as it was with my heavily de-bloated Android 10 environment, but I didn't expect it to be, and I'm not going to risk messing this all up again.
My only complaint is that stock AOD (and Sidelight Notifications) don't seem to be working properly, no matter how I configure them in Settings. I'm not sure what's causing the issue, but I actually developed this problem just a few days BEFORE the AT&T OTA landed, and it's persisted through a full Android point upgrade and two factory resets, so I imagine there's a conflict somewhere. Maybe with Fluid Simulation - Trippy Stress Reliever (my live wallpaper app of choice), Energy Bar, or Nova Launcher. I haven't been able to pinpoint it yet, but since it predates the Android 11 OTA by a few days, there must be another cause.
I do miss Fluid Navigation Gestures, but I'm happy to report that the new Android 11 gestures are way better than Android 10's. Not quite as customized as I had FNG, but I've adapted. Until/unless someone figures out how to hide the navigation bar without root, LG's gestures it is, I guess.
I have a Verizon V60 and since the update the processor is pegged to 100% utilization after just a few minutes of listening to YouTube music. Nothing I do will drop the utilization down besides a reboot. Again, after a few minutes, same thing. That's what you guys are seeing. I did a factory reset thinking that might fix it. It didn't. I restored all of my apps, but not my data just to be sure that nothing weird was causing issues. Even after the restore, the CPU was pegged at 100%.
Long story short, the SW is bugged. So was 10 (voice commands broken with Maps in Incognito mode for example). I've wanted to switch to this phone as my daily for a while from my Galaxy S10, but LG keeps dropping the ball.
Regarding the Samsung, it has significantly more features and regular updates. There is no comparison, frankly. I only like the LG for the form factor, large battery, speed and head phone jack amp. Otherwise, the S10 is just a better phone. This reminds me why I stopped buying Motorola phones. Buggy updates with broken core functionality.
I bought a V50 based on the positive reviews, and I ultimately sold it due to bugs (Android Auto was an absolute mess). The V60 has been better, but still far from perfect. I find phone reviews absolutely worthless as those people seem to restrict their usage to social media and photography. When it comes to using it as an actual phone, silence.
Sorry for the long rant. I will give LG another month to see if they fix this issue. Otherwise, I'm selling this phone and will never buy another LG.

Not on an LG V60, but I've got serious other issues I'm here about.
I don't usually post here, but gotten a ton of great info here over the years, including rooting a couple phones. Thank you to all who contribute.
Since the update I've found three of my favcorite apps, all paid for, afflicted with issues that range from a couple cosmetic glitches in AccuBattery, to one app that's completely unusable. I've done one factory reset since the update.
I have a support ticket opened for the worst one; Radio Paradise's streaming app, the beta version (only one of these in beta). After clearing its cache and data, then uninstalling, then restarting (power off/>10 seconds pause/on), then reinstalling, I can sometimes get a connection and start downloading music, streaming or caching. But just once. Then it won't reconnect to the streams at all.
The other one, Weather Underground's app, now won't even start. But the notification seems fine keeping time and temp on schedule. Try to start the app and it immediately shuts down.
All three of these apps, including the RP Betas, have been solid for a year (one attraction) and all run fine on an old V10 and V30 still on the wifi. Have for years.
If this gibes with anyone else's experiance I'd like to hear about it, I haven't found these kinds of complaints anywhere. My Spidey sense suggests a possible permissioning issue but I'm not sure.

Question Newbie/Android 13

Morning all. My pixel 6 (non pro) is being delivered today and I've been looking through the forum, as I always do for a new phone, to try and see what recommendations people have. Despite seeing lots of issues in the 'press' with battery life and Android 13 (downgrading / bricking), I can't see what the general consensus is here and peoples experiences seem to differ.
Is upgrading to Android 13 worth it? Does it actually fix the battery life issues?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Intermediate level rooter/phone tinkerer here. First thing I did when getting my P6 was to unlock, upgrade to A13, and root, so I have no context for what A12 was like. What I can say is battery life has been amazing for me. Albeit I am not a heavy user (only play COD mobile every once in a blue moon). Most of the time it's just phone, text, browser, music and YouTube use. I am actually testing the battery right now, and I am at 27% since unplugging at 100% 40 hours ago, so I am completely happy. On pace to be a 2 day battery for me. YMMV.
In regards to how I like A13, I am coming from A11 on a Oneplus device, and I have to say I miss the old style quick toggles personally. But I am also one that doesn't mind getting used to new software. I know this can annoy others quite a bit. The rest of the OS issues I have are not version related, they are me missing OxygenOS features like screen gestures to play/pause music, turn on flashlight, modify status bar icons, ect. I really miss them, but have turned my back on Oneplus due to their recent decisions (constant lack of IP ratings, no wireless charging, removing the alert slider, constant price creep, subpar cameras) so the only easy to root alternative that addresses my above frustrations is the Pixel line.
That being said, any Pixel you buy brand new is gonna start with A12, which is very close to A13. So again, YMMV with how you acclimate to the new OS version.
Hope this helps
Also, the fingerprint reader on this phone is way better than the one on my Oneplus 8T, that thing was absolute garbage IMO...like 30-40% success rate. This P6 one is completely satisfactory for me, rarely have a failure. When I do, it's usually due to moisture or dirt. But any in screen reader has these issues, not isolated to P6. Only solution is to have a physical reader like the Sony Xperia or the like.
I know I probably seem like the minority here, it seems most people have horrible experiences with the P6 reader, just saying me personally it has been great. Also, my above great experience is WITH a tempered glass protector on and have NOT increased the touch sensitivity like the instructions seem to indicate a need for.

Thanks for your replies, much appreciated. Can I ask why you root? I used to routinely do this many years ago and infact did it recently to my Poco F2 bit that was purely to enable call recording. I find the lack of being able to properly use banking apps / Google pay too big a price to pay.
I've not got my sim card in yet so using WiFi only. My phone seems to be getting quite hot? Not doing much very intensive, just downloading and installing apps. It's been off a few minutes now and it's still warm. Battery drain also seems a little high albeit I've been downloading lots of programmes.

Absolutely! Reasons I root:
1. Adaway - block all ads system wide,
2. Vanced YouTube - block YT ads, extra customization like swipe controls
3. Did I mention I HATE ads with white hot passion??
4. Tasker root required modifications
5. Ability to nuke any bloat app I want
6. Call recording
7. Other Magisk modules that I have used in the past but have not tried/not supported on A13 yet.
8. I just personally like having control over software I use. Any future mod I could possibly desire I would have the access required to implement
No concern with apps blocking you due to rooting, that is fixed by USNF and Zygisk denylist
In my experience, anytime I am setting up a new phone they get warm. Also to note, these newer builds of Android require about 5-7 day "break in" period, where the OS is optimizing based on your usage. After that period is when battery life settles down.
If I'm not mistaken with the P6/P6P once you upgrade to A13, you cannot downgrade back to A12. So something to consider.

Just FYI, Vanced works without root and surprisingly, so does call recording.
Interesting about the USNF though, I was unaware of that and wondered how people lived without access to all the banking type apps.

USNF for me isn't about the banking apps but tap and pay. I could give two s***s about the banks, as if I really needed to I could just access their services through the browser. I like the convenience of tap and pay, not going to lie, but can function without it easily enough, as I do carry my cards on me in a Ridge-style wallet even though I have the phone as an option. You never know when Google will suddenly update the Wallet or GPay apps and cause the USNF to not work for a few days.

I just got a Pixel 6 myself a couple weeks ago after being an iPhone user for a few years. I have to say I haven't really put it through the wringer yet, but so far I've had zero issues with it. Nothing like I've seen discussed at length in multiple threads on Reddit.
My biggest issue thus far is trying to figure out what browser to use, as I have the freedom to actually choose.

I use Opera on my P6. Blocks ad and is smoother than Chrome (which I suppose most browser are).
Back to the original topic, I can't really comment on the difference between 12 and 13, but I can say my experience on 13 has been good. No notable issues, excellent battery life, and support from Magisk addons like AOSP Mods is catching up.
Just make sure you know what you're doing if you do upgrade to 13, especially if you're a root user. TL;DR - the phone has two "slots" for everything but data (bootloader, system, etc.), and flashing the OTA of 13 updates one of those slots. After that happens, if anything happens that causes your phone to boot from the un-updated side before you've updated at least the bootloader on that side, you've got a brick. There are guides around for getting both sides updated that're better than I can, though the rootless (sideload) method for updating both sides can have issues with USB >2.0.
