Navigation android app - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am currently working on my own android app and I do some calculations and method calls there and finally get latitude and longitude of one point where I want to navigate to and have the latitude and longitude from my current location. Now I have some options from here on:
1. I embed existing navigation on Android in my application.
2. I start an extern navigation application via intent.
Both ways are used to help the user to navigate to the location.
When I finally reached the destination then my own app should handle this and send a message to a server. This is easier when my own app is in the foreground on the phone.
Some ideas what way I should use and if one explains me with what. I read something about Grasshopper etc. but I am not confident what to use.
Hopefully someone here can help me or just write down their opinion.

[q] kml overlay on google map api

Hi Guys,
First of all thanks for helping me out.
I am developing an application using Google Maps API. It is an Android developement.
My problem is I need to get the coordinates of all locations within a certain marked area of a KML file. it is a KML which was created using boundary coordinates.
My application needs to enable the user to key in the exact location. After that my application will need to get the coordinates from Google Map and match it to the exact location on the KML file. It has to be based on exact coordinates.
The problem is, since the KML does not have all the coordinates, I am unable to pin point to the exact location.
I believe I can overlay the KML on the Google Map and that way capture all the coordinates of the marked areas within the KML. Is that possible as now I just am so stuck.
I hope someone can help me out here, emailing me at [email protected]
Your kind assistance is very much appreciated.
Regards,
Venot

[Q] Need to create a location updates application

Hi ,
Ineed to create a location update programm which updates my location and send to the latest updated ocationally other named one's which has same application. Can anyway one give me suggestions for this
You don't need a fancy app, only two buttons: "check the GPS status" (to activate it if necesary) and "Install the service".
The services are much like alerts. When a time counter reaches certain time (defined by you), executes a small piece of code, so you can use it to get your current location and send it (or even, if you preffer, activate the GPS, get the location, and turn off the GPS to save battery).
Now, send the location to other device can be a bit difficult. I have no idea how to do it directly, but you can use a server as bridge (any FTP server should work, or even dropbox using the dropbox api for android). This way, you'll need to login into the server (both apps). Your first app uploads the location to the server, and the second app downloads the file and shows it to the user.
To update the location in the second app, you can use simply an Update button, or set up a service aswell.

[Q] Looking for routing app

Am familiar with Google map and some other mapping apps. What I'm looking for is something similar that keeps routing notes of business locations. A client provides a product for area retail outlets. Need app that allows notes to be kept for multiple locations where can click on a map, click on business location pinned on map, and be able to edit note/spreadsheet for that location. App would be able to track when last visited a location, items delivered, etc. by doing a quick search and also be able to print. Sometimes these areas don't have access to the Internet so being able to use offline map with notes would be a big plus. Is there an existing map app that has such capability?

Need Help with GPS location based apps

Hello everybody,
Been looking for a while for a GPS based location and directions app that has the following functionality
1. Pinpoint any location on a map and save the location by giving it a unique ID (alphanumeric)
2. Share this ID with your friends using the same app by sending this ID via the app or email or sms.
3. Users use this ID for location and/or directions instead of typing the entire address or GPS coordinates.
4. App can use google maps or Nokia maps or other maps.
Please suggest some apps with similar functionality.
Much appreciated.

Stock Calendar Map issue

In EMUI 9, stock Calendar app added "Map" button when creating a new appointment, to find the location.
However in order to work properly you need to press that button and find the location by scrolling and moving the map to the correct place. There is no search option to search for the location you want.
In addition, if you simply type the location you want and save the appointment, the "Show on Map" button in the event opens another app (amap) which does not work in Europe, so you cannot navigate there.
Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution to this, apart from using another app?
I have tested right now:
- I can create a new task without entering the location
- if I write the place name manually, I can't open it in the map, nothing is happening after pressing the location button
- if I select the place on the map, I can open it later in Firefox and Google Maps
IMO, stock Calendar app works good.
A pain in the ass work around is manually typing address in, then when you want to view it on map, click and long hold the address and it will open Google maps and search the address.
It sucks that it won't do it by default, but the weather information on the calendar/schedule needs the location set properly to pull weather data
But the Europe address seems to work for me

Thank you very much for your reply. Indeed your suggestion works, with one small tradeoff, the address should be put in English. If I put the address in Greek (my native language) it will not work. But for sure is better than nothing. Thank you very much

Correct, this is how it works, I would prefer though to have a search option on the map, instead of selecting it. But we will have to wait for Huawei to improve stock Calendar app for it. Thank you
