I'm having the strangest problem, and I've experienced this on multiple Android 10 only roms for Platina, it is relating to audio problems. It is the only thing I have trouble with on this ROM and wonder if anyone you had the same thing? I believe they are all related in some way!
Problem 1: When I use the regular dialer, and dial out, the dialing tone after calling a number comes through the speaker output and switches to normal ear piece sound the moment the call is answered
Problem 2: Using apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, LINE, and Kakaotalk, if making AUDIO only calls, I cannot hear the other person through the normal ear piece but if I switch to speaker, it works fine. The other person has no problem hearing me at all. Using Video chat works just fine and in normal fashion.
Problem 3: Whenever I am on speaker in any application, Increasing or decreasing the volume doesnt do anything
Could you tell me the location of the Audio file maybe I can look through in my file explorer and compare it to what a normal audio file should look like?
I've checked Volume, permissions, etc.. and cant figure this out. I've searched forums and everything and most people have a problem with the mic, not the speaker on their end.
Thanks for any help
Again, no problems if I use a Android 9 (custom or official), and it's just the earpiece speaker in apps other than the normal dialer. (normal dialer works like it should)

First of all, thank you for trying to help me. Lately I've seen some questions go unnoticed. As I only have access to my dad's phone at the moment and he only has whatsapp and viber, i tried those too. Whatsapp still suffers from the same problem I noted. I never tested it on Viber prior so I can't comment, but when I created a voice to voice call, I hear it finally on my phone but it comes through the speaker but it isnt on speaker mode. If I turn on speaker mode on my phone, the volume is just much louder.
Regarding the normal dialer and dialing, I actually switched to Bliss Rom 12.7 after writing the original question and that part seemed to be already solved when I tested it.
Not sure which question of mine you sought to try to help me with?

Back in April when I was mainly trying to switch to Android 10, I tried almost all of them that were up in the ROMS section. I haven't tried the xiaomi official one yet but I did try xiaomi eu miui 12 with android 10 and that also has this problem.
Currently running Blissrom 12.7 that was released just a few days ago
It just doesnt make sense how I see no one else having this problem, yet my ear piece is working fine for normal operation and/or when I am running Android 9 on the phone.
I've tried playing around with OK GOOGLE, GOOGLE ASSISTANT, I dont use either now those so they were already off or didnt exist in my settings, but since installed and tried all kinds of variations.

I have this issue: I'm running on CM10, build 2012-08-18 and I would to like to upgrade to latest build. When I install CM10 nightly (or anything build) over the original build and then I make a call I don't hear anything :crying:
OK, then I make full wipe and voila, it works! OK, I wait when applications restore from google account but they don;t restore all settings (for example Touchdown), so I restore Apps/Data/Both via MyBackup Restore and... no sound when make call :crying::crying:
Long story short: on CM10 I cannot restore anything else I lost sound when callind (no ringtone but don't hear second side).
This is unpleasant because restoring system get a lot of time.
Any ideas?
P.S. More into about my phone: flashed original ROM via ODIN, then root and recovery, then CM10. No Jelly Bean leaked ROMs were installed after flashing original ROM (ICS).
Same here!
Do you found a fix?

I don't even have lockcreen enabled and I don't see any sound settings there.
I got the same problem on cm10.1 2012-01-03 nightly, this is a serious problem that they need to solve..

Did you mean 2013-01-03? Me too but for me helped enabling repro during the call and then disabling it and then all works well
It is a really really annoying bug. A system sound has to be made first - the lock screen does that IF you have sound on. If you make a call before doing this, forget about any sound.
I agree it is a pain in the arse and if I knew how to fix it I would. You can use Tasker to reset the volume, play a sound, then reset volume, but it is annoying. Only thing stopping me switching over.

Hi guys.
Don't know if this helps someone now, but i had this problem recently on two different phones. Two weeks ago with my HTC One M7 and today with my girlfriends SGS3 i9305. with HTC i didn't figured out back then what was the problem, but i fixed it somehow after re-flashing/re-installing .. but now i think i know what was the problem. With both phones in-call sound/mic disappeared for no reason. what i noticed in both cases problem was restoring my setting from Google account. with HTC i did not give attention to that, i was happy that it worked after some 5h of trying different things. But now with SGS3 after many attempts i tried without Google restore and voila ... works just fine. After this i connected phone to Google account, but did not restored settings.
I rad many forums and saw that in case of SGS3 it can be hardware problem..but in my case I've tried VIBER and everything was working good. so it was not mic/earpiece problem for sure.
Hope someone finds this useful.
Happy Holidays to everyone!
Dear users,
I'm new owner of X820 4GB/32GB from yesterday. I changed stock rom by latest Small EUI by Aurel with last patch and after I tried Resurrection Remix 3.8.3. In both systems I had problem during phone call, I hear no beeps and voice. It's same with receiver and main speaker, I can hear only end call beep. I was afraid that it's problem with my phone, but when I restore my stock rom, it works well here.
Can anybody help me, where could be problem?
EDIT: I wiped phone to factory defaults and reflashed rom without Viper and calling works well!!! If someone know, how to use Viper with working call, let me (us) know please.
I'm having the same issue bro...
It was due to viper4fx in my case...

EDIT: No it don't works, it works only when I tried call my phone number, when I call other no. it's quite.
the call is connected but I can't hear voice anymore... the mic is also not working...
I happens only with calls...
I tried to fully uninstall the viper driver but still no success...
Please anyone tell me how to fix this without flashing the stock ROM as I have exhausted my net pack
Is it just me or are the notifications all too quiet? the main default alert as well as individual app notifications all seem way too quiet, I can hardly hear them. I've even just factory reset it and it's still the same, anybody got any advice? please?
May be obvious but have you tried turning the notification volume up?
Trust me, I have checked, rechecked, triple checked and even factory reset the phone 3 times all with the same result. The sounds sound fine while selecting them in the respective app settings but as soon as the notification is triggered it's like the speakers are covered with cotton wool or something. But in answer to your question yes, all sliders are at their maximum.
Thanks for replying though
My provider (Hutchison 3G) have said over Twitter to return it and get a replacement, which I will do tomorrow if I can't find a solution. At least that way it'll rule out a hardware fault.
My notification is also to.quiet.
Music and videos and notification sounds on zedge for example are loud it as soon as I choose to use them for a notification sound it's very low. Certainly a software bug not hardware.
Thank you, I really thought I was going doolally... I'll mention it to the provider tomorrow when I get advice

Probably a bit naff quoting myself but hey-ho...
Returned the device, and the new one arrived today, still the same problem, for example select a notification tone for Whatsapp and it's quiet-ish but okay (i'm quite deaf so need a louder than normal notification) then when someone sends a message its super quiet and sort of muffled. I had every intention at some point to root and de-brand it but thought the stock rom was the probelm, so after many hours I finally flashed ARC5, flashed TWRP and rooted with SuperSU ( that lot was a mission on its own) but I've still got VERY quiet notifications...
Very Very annoying.
Anyone developing a volume mod?

Glad we not on our own and a replacement has been tried with no such look.
Certainly a problem Samsung should became to fix quickly if there are aware of it.....
i checked again the same sound is low on viber and in telegram and very high in whatsapp

Video of issue where the same sound on whatsapp is high and on telegram is low, and the same issue with all sounds and many apps.
Do the notification sounds play through a bluetooth speaker if you have one connected? Maybe I could hear them on the other side of the house if I used a bluetooth speaker with the volume cranked up when I leave the phone charging .
Another silly idea: There are tasker plugins available to make app notifications into events that tasker can respond to. If someone already has tasker installed, you could try intercepting the notification then playing the sound you want as a music clip so it would play at "normal" volume. I've never taken the time to learn how the heck to use tasker, but now I'm tempted.

I am having the same issue. I keep missing text messages due to the quietness, even if I'm sitting next to it, within 3 feet.
Any thing discovered as of yet?
Found this thread Googling for a fix for the same problem, G960F
Notification only plays through bottom speaker, and is much quieter than the original sound I downloaded from Zedge and muffled too, all stock notification sounds are equally low
I see the Samsung forums are full of people complaining about the same thing, hopefully Samsung does something about it, quite annoying and constantly missing messages and whatsapp notifications
I have no issues... Verizon.. snapdragon model...I think it's an Android Oreo issue though..my pixel XL did that. But the volume increased whenever the phone was in my pocket...same with the Galaxy S9+..but it's louder than my pixel

Noticed today that ringtones are quieter when someone calls, than they are from the ringtone selection screen
Tweeted to Samsung about it, who very quickly asked me to DM them instead of publicly tweeting about it, so I did, and that was nearly two weeks ago, no reply

Yes I've noticed that too - I think it's the top speaker that's quieter.
Hmm strange issue not present on my Verizon models on the s9 and s9+ I wonder if the software has different settings on how the volume works i know my volume mod on the s7 and s7 edge were different for all models so I'm guessing it's a software issue
Any solution/mod?

Hello,
I got this phone since my former one died without notice (coming from a 5 year old oneplus one), it's my god daughter's previous one.
Working good smooth and all on stock rom (seems to be carrier customed, bundled with carrier apps) : Sony XPeria X F5121 / android 8.0, build 34.4.A.2.118 Sept 1 2018 / kernel 3.10.84 Aug 24 2018
I have a slight problem : whenever I'm calling, I have to put the "hands free" mode with speakers otherwise nobody can hear me. I don't think the microphone is broken and I am thinking of a "bug" in the rom.
Before re-installing my apps, i could call and people could hear me. The phone app is the stock one.
If I speak right in front of the microphone, but like shouting, people can hear me but at very low level.
Searched a bit on the internet, but didn't find anything about this, some people say it is because other apps are conflicting, I tried to remove every app I can think of using the microphone (whatsapp, line, etc), but didn't changed a thing, tried to tune the "noise reduction" in google voice search, but didn't worked either.
If I try to audio call with whatsapp, facebook messenger lite or line, people can't hear me. Using google voice search works without flaws.
Before going for a reset factory or flashing the phone with custom rom, is there anything else I can try to solve the problem ?
problem still not fixed : looking for a replacement microphone. Anyone know how to replace the part ? If defective and I dreamt that it was working with factory reset, I will replace it.
Found this piece, but don't know where it can fit ? Do I have to solder it on the mainboard ???
Ok update :
1- the microphone part sold in the link is not correct, I don't think it fits.
2- I teared up the phone, to find some little "pearl" blocking the microphone ... after removing the pearl, microphone works flawlessly.
Hi, I'm having a issue with my redmi note 9 pro. Whenever i try to make a call, it always goes to speakerphone. I cannot get it to go to the earpiece. WHen i try turning off speakerphone, the audio is still routed through the bottom speaker, and the person on the end of the call notices i sound broken up. WHen i swotch on the speakerphone the sound is clear, and then the person can hear me just fine. I've tried with whatsapp, google voice, and the regular phone app, and all have the same issue. I'm running Evolution X currently as my rom, but i've tried lineage os, and it has the same bug. On stock MIUI I don't remember having this issue, so maybe it's something weird with the custom roms. I'm also rooted with magisk. Anyone got any ideas, or has anyone ever experienced this issue when running custom roms on this phone? Any ideas, or suggestions are welcome. Thanks
Hi, I have this problem too. Of course inside the pubg mobile game. To temporarily solve this problem, first turn off the phone and connect the headphones when the operating system logo is displayed. A hissing sound is heard when plugging in the headphones.
Of course, to avoid this problem, you should use Bluetooth headphones.
Hi, I just tried your suggestion. it doesn't appear to work. My issue is with the earpiece, not headphones. Headphones for me have always worked flawlessly when running custom roms or stock. My issue is when making calls using the earpiece. Making calls using headphones seems to work fine. However when trying to use the earpiece, i cannot get it to work. What i mean by earpiece, is the top speaker of the phone, the one you have to hold close to your ear when making a call. FOr whatever reason calls always remain on the bottom speaker, and never seem to go to the top speaker aka earpiece. This happens in all calls, and in apps like whatsapp. Has anyone else ever experienced this issue? Again, headphones seem to work fine, and yes I'm rooted, and running a custom rom. When i was running stock, I don't ever remember this happening, but now that i'm running a custom rom, i can't get the earpiece to work. I really don't want to go back to the stock miui rom, but idk maybe i will if a solution can't be found

I am having the same issue! any solution please let me know!
I am having the same problem - BUT on stock MIUI 12.5 - it started happening after I upgraded. If I could go back I would, but am happy to flasha new ROM if that will fix it.
I was thinking of flashing Lineage 18.1 but if that is having the save issue I ont bother. It must be a note 9 pro issue seeing as I only have the stock version..
I wonder if anyone at all has fixed this issue. I even contact xiaomi technical support but they were useless!
Anybody found its solution please update?
I'm having the exact same issue. When I initiate call it's on loudspeaker even though I didn't select that option. The other side can't hear me well. When I select "speaker" then it's still on loudspeaker, as it should be, and the other person can hear me fine.
I had the problem on crDroid (Android 12) and am currently experiencing the same problem on Pixel Experience (Android 12).

Not quite sure I follow. Are you saying to remove sim 1? Or are you saying to change the default calling sim to sim 2 or something? I should note that I'm using both sims and a SD card. Are you saying I should just use sim slot 2?

Short version:
OK, so I just tried your advice, and it WORKED.
Long Version:
Ok, so I first removed both sims with the phone off. Then i put one of my 2 sims ONLY in slot 2 like you said. I inserted it into the phone, booted it up, and made a test call. To my surprise, the phone wasn't on speaker. I couldn't beileve it. I tried again, and it worked. I switched to speaker, now it's on speaker. I turned off the speaker and it was back to the earpeice! I tried whatsapp, and same result, the earpiece was working. I then decided to shut the phone down, and put the both sim 1 and 2 back in the phone. Guess what? after booting the phone up again, and making a test call, it still works! I don't understand the rhyme or reason behind it, but I'm not complaining. I'm so happy it FINALLY works.
to recap, Basically here are the steps:
1. Turn Off phone
2. Remove both sim cards.
3. Put a sim only in slot 2
4. Turn on phone and make a test call, it should no longer be on speaker!
5. go ahead and shut down the phone, and put a sim in both slots, if you are using 2 sims.
6. Turn the phone back on, and make a test call. It should still be working on the earpiece!
yes - this worked for me also - I have been looking for so long. A simple and un-remarkab le solution to a serious problem. Xiaomi should have been able to solve this.
All the same - thank you!
Great phone that was hindered for quite a few months by this serious problem
Again - thank you !
