There is a lot of discussion about the GPS features added in the new ROM provided by DCD. This maybe a dumb a questiopn, but has internet calling been added back in in these releases?
I have a VZW 6800 and would really love to have the SIP features that are supposed to be in Mobile 6 to use with my asterisk box.
Any info on this would be really appreciated.
From my understanding, the wifi calling app from US Tmobile only works for US Tmobile customers, correct me if i'm wrong.
Is there any way to import this app to another region Defy (mines from UK) and get it working on any network?

No because no UK Networks support it.
I have a Fritz!Box Wlan DSL router from AVM.
This thing is absolutely cool as they provide an app to make/receive
calls over wifi. (FritzFon App)
You can route analog/ISDN/Voip telephone lines to the Defy over Wifi.
If your normal phone rings, your Defy rings also
The Fritz!Box routers are popular in germany, don't know in what other countries
they are sold.
May also work from outside via VPN, but i never tried.

Yeah, this is a great App! Maybe I'll try the VPN option, since it would be a great way to get around call forwarding.
BTW: The app is working great with a FB 7170 as well as with FB 7390
How about Skype?
Or for that matter, Google Voice? http://www.google.com/mobile/voice/

Actually, Orange supports UMA in the UK.
Not sure if the T-Mobile USA wi-fi app would work with it though - maybe trying to get ahold of a compatible app from an Orange-branded Android handset would be a better bet.
Of course, that doesn't help anyone on any of the other UK networks.

where can i get the apk for the wifi calling?
Just get Sipdroid from the Market. You can register it with any sip server (in my case Voipbuster so I can make calls to many countries for virtually nothing, and people from Holland can call me on my Dutch 'landline' number no matter where I am ). The program integrates in the dialer and you can set it to automatic or manual. I set it so that every time I put a # at the end of a number it uses voip. Works great over wifi. Haven't tried calling over 2G yet. No 3G available here.
For SIP VoIP, CSIPSimple has more codec support than SIPDroid which may or may not be important for some people. Depends on the internet reliability and speeds which are available to you.
But because of how SIP works, there are still some niggling issues with battery life in some configurations as it needs to keep alive a connection in order to receive calls. Personally I'm only using it to dial out to landlines on demand at a cheaper rate than mobile.
Sipdroid works quite well over 3G as does Skype. 2G is rather pushing it but some claim they have had decent results. Both of them use quite a lot of juice though.
The main problem with Sipdroid is lack of echo cancelation so should help to use a headset. Skype is a lot better in that regard
I'm looking to buy a generic 7" Android tablet and having trouble finding one with all the features I want. I'd like to get one with a phone built-in but the ones I've found have either the wrong bands for my carrier or a slower CPU and 2.2 instead of 2.3. I've found one that has 3G built-in and the module it has supports my carrier's frequencies, both UMTS and GSM (and is used in other tablets I've seen with phone capability), but this one doesn't include a phone app.
Is it possible to add an app like Dialer One to add phone capability?
most will not especially in the US, what you can do is use google voice and GrooveIP to set up SIP/VOIP calling in and out. basically all your calls in and out over data..
Hello
I am working on an android mobile application. I am looking specifically for vowifi calling features which are currently supported by many telecom operators.
is there any way to check whether my device supports wifi calling or not?
Can I enable wifi calling programmatically if device supports the same
My carrier is very particular about which phones they open up the Wi-Fi Calling feature to. Generally, they'll only activate and support the feature on phones that they have directly sold & are running carrier-branded firmware (ugh).
I've managed, however, to get Wi-Fi Calling working on my carrier via my Z5c, which is definitely not a supported model. (Long story.) And it all works great...except that I cannot for the life of me get MMS to function over Wi-Fi. I know what the basic underlying issue is that is preventing this from working (APN type 'mms' is not able to be used as a bearer on the IWLAN RAT), but have not yet found a way to work around it.
This leads me to ask: is there anybody out there (still) using a Z5-family phone that has working Wi-Fi Calling actively supported by your carrier? And if so, can you send and receive MMS when you are only on Wi-Fi (Airplane mode on with Wi-Fi re-enabled) without problems?
I mean, if this isn't a supported configuration/feature on the Z5, period, then I'd like to know that before I waste further weeks banging my head against a wall that's never going to budge... It seems unfathomable to me that any phone with Wi-Fi Calling *wouldn't* support MMS over Wi-Fi, but this is a rather early VoWiFi implementation, so who knows.
